Insite: Prophecy
Core Design:The core used in the Prophecy is also used in the Particle Supernatural. The RG is medium at 2.54 with a conservative Diff of .029. Lower Diff ratings are designed for added length and can be more angular for high-revvers and less angular for the rev-challenged. Our testing showed 2-3" of track flare with out 3.5 and 4.5" layouts.
Coverstock:The funky green solid reactive cover is finished at 1500-grit polish. This medium gloss provides length and control throughout the lane. Higher glosses will provide more skid in oil, but also can create some persnickety annoyances.
Manufacturer's Intent:Mark Russo, owner-designer of Insite Bowling, wanted a ball reaction to complement the others in his line. "I wanted a ball motion comparable to the Violet 3D of yesteryear, with easy length and control at the breakpoint."
Test Results:The Prophecy excelled on our medium and lighter patterns. It allowed us to play about five boards further right than with any other ball in our tests. We could actually lineup the track (very light oil concentration) and still be able to get the ball down the lane and preserve plenty of energy. Scuffing the surface with 2000- and 4000-abralons did little to change the motion off the spot, but we did experience an earlier roll and read. The Prophecy reminded us of a lightly polished two-piece urethane with added hitting power. It provides a conservative core and cover combo that can deliver lots of strikes, albeit from a more direct line to the pocket.
When to Use:Use only on lighter and shorter patterns unless you possess a gifted release. We were able to straddle the oil line and make minimal adjustments as the lanes broke down. Pin carry was very good from 1st board to as deep as 14th for my test staff. When we ventured left of the 3rd arrow, our carry suffered due to the lack of needed entry angle. The Prophecy definitely needs to see some friction to react and carry. This is not a bad thing, though, as most house and tournament patterns have or eventually develop a defined hook-spot at with to throw. I would rate the response off friction as moderate.
