Walk Softly On The Bowling Approach

If you are struggling with your timing or if you are having some difficulty maintaining balance, walk softly on the bowling approach.

It is surprising how often keying on your footwork can help you get back in stride when your game goes awry.

A technique which works for everyone of all skill levels is to maintain a controlled pace of steps close to or at your normal walking pace when you are bowling your very best.

Walking softly on the approach means you are not digging in, tensing your legs, increasing your approach speed beyond your usual walking pace, and will help control your body balance.

Walking softly also allows you to remain on each step a pinch longer than usual, perhaps a half second longer, which gives your swing and release a chance to be effective.

Some bowlers use the “heel-to-toe” technique with steps leading into the final sliding step which serves to build an even walking tempo.

An even walking tempo will slow your steps slightly and help you use the floor to anchor yourself and generate leverage and power.

Not all bowlers can use fast steps and a super long slide step. Some bowlers require a slightly more methodical pace of walking to the foul line than do others who are able to get their steps moving quickly to generate good ball speed.

Regardless of which walking technique you use, walking softly will help your timing, prevent you rushing your steps and forcing your release, and will certainly help you maintain good balance.

On challenging lane conditions, having good balance and controlling your release action and ball speed is critical in hitting the pocket.

On challenging lane conditions, a little mistake in your delivery motion can cause you to miss the pocket or encounter open frames.

Learn to walk softly on the bowling approach and control your footwork tempo to improve your shotmaking.
