Words used in bowling circles such as “focus”, “concentration”, and “aiming” are byproducts of your specific and intended line of sight.
You must zero in on your sight target on the lane before you can apply complete focus on hitting the target when delivering your bowling ball.
Good concentration starts with a commitment from your brain and then translates to your bowling vision.
Three bowling phases of concentration are pre-shot routine, taking direct aim at your selected target, and then watching your bowling ball travel down the lane and where it contacts the pins.
Your bowling eyes, therefore, are engaged in visualization before action, focused on the movements of your approach, and then monitoring the ball reaction and results of a given shot.
When it is time to focus on your target during the aiming phase, don’t blink!
Keep your eyes wide open and zero in on making a quality shot at your aim point on the lane.
Every physical movement you make is brain related. This includes taking dead aim at your target.
Whether you visualize your approach and select a sight target before you bowl, whether you lock your eyes on your aim point with full commitment to hit that point, or whether you are intent on watching your bowling ball motion carefully as it travels down the lane and contacts the pins, you must use your brain.
Your eyes are the window for your brain to see your total bowling picture before, during, and after each shot you deliver.
Trust your instincts and decisions. Avoid solely relying on your physical game skills. Since your eyes are involved in all aspects of your bowling, trust what you see and in the decisions you make throughout each competition session of bowling. The direct relationship of making a good shot when needed is with a focused eye on your aim point. Be alert, move with a fluidity of motion, and use your bowling eyes wisely.
