Super Senior Bowlers And Body Posture

Super senior bowlers and body posture go hand in hand.

If you are a bowler over 70 years of age, using an athletic body posture can serve you well.

Your set-up body position on the approach tells the entire story.

By assuming good body posture in your set-up, you set the stage to retain good posture throughout your approach.

Good posture helps you maintain balance and control of your delivery.

Here are a few simple tips to begin your approach and sustain while walking and swinging your bowling ball:

*Keep your feet close together with perhaps only one board of separation between both bowling shoes.

*Use a 10% or 15% body forward tilt so your body weight is balanced over your knees.

*Flex your knees down slightly to a point where there is no strain in your legs but where you feel a solid body position using the big muscles in your legs.

*Your shoulders will be in a vertical straight line above your knee caps as a result of your knee flex and spine angle tilted slightly forward.

*The bottom of your chin should be at shoulder level or slightly higher. This keeps your head up for the purposes of balance as you walk.

*Maintain this overall athletic posture as you bowl staying at close to the same elevation from the approach floor each step.

*Avoid head movement to stabilize your body balance as you walk and resist an urge to bend forward at the waist as you begin to release your bowling ball.

If you establish an athletic posture during your stance position, all you need to focus on stabilizing your upper body while walking using the same posture while you slide and deliver your ball.

Good posture helps generate effortless power, something any super senior bowler can benefit in using.

Another factor as a super senior bowler to be aware of is your ball weight and surface texture. Using a ball too light can be just as ineffective as using one too heavy for your game. If you consult with your coach or pro shop professional, you should be able to select the best weight ball suiting your style of bowling. Also, make sure to not use an overly aggressive, highly textured bowling ball surface which tends to create a good deal of lane surface friction and hook earlier than needed. If you do not have a lot of ball speed, don’t fight the lanes, just use a shiny reactive bowling ball, a hybrid ball, or even a plastic ball so you avoid having to force your swing and release.
