Mental Bowling Tip

There is a mental bowling tip which will help you when you have little time to practice.

Visualize walking through your approach, swinging your bowling ball freely, releasing the ball smoothly, following through to your target, and holding your form as you watch your ball travel down the lane and impact the pins.

Although bowling is largely a physical game, using your powers of visualization can help you “feel and see” the result before doing it.

Visualizing your approach movements is only one technique you can mentally rehearse before bowling.

Visualizing your bowling ball motion is another way to prepare to bowl.

Take a moment to “watch “ your ball skid through the front end of the lane passing over your sight target, transitioning in the mid-lane (hooking), and then changing direction about two-thirds of its way down the lane at the breakpoint, and rolling squarely into the pocket.

Everyone wants to be an accurate bowler. You can take a step to that end by “seeing” your ball travel down the lane and hitting the pocket before you step onto the approach and actually bowl.

Accuracy is a combination of good physical skills and proper alignment.

You cannot align properly to the pocket on a given lane condition without first making a decision where you will position your feet on the approach and where you will sight on the lane.

Making bowling decisions on alignment and on physical adjustments before actually bowling are the powers of your mental game. Visualize it and then make it happen.

Never bowl without first making a firm decision where you want to line up to a given spare or to the pocket and commit to that decision.

Commit to any physical technique adjustment you elect to make before bowling.

This notion of commitment to your decisions is commonly known as trust. Trust is an essential quality in allowing yourself to make quality shots and to make spontaneous decisions during competition.

The best mental bowling tip anyone can give you is to trust your decisions before you bowl, visualize a positive result, then relax and go bowl.

Making good decisions related to alignment and positioning adjustments while you are bowling in competition is developed through experience, trial and error in practice sessions, and in seeing positive results right after you make a given decision. Everything you learn to do in bowling is generally developed during practice time. Taking what you learn in practice or in previous competitive situations to the lanes when bowling in a league or in a tournament and trusting what you know you can do is the building block of bowling success.
