Just Wait On Your Bowling Swing

Any top tier player understands the importance of good swing discipline as a vital key in good shot-making.

In fact, the greatest challenge top players face in competition is to maintain swing discipline and avoid forcing the swing from the top to the release point.

One key in developing swing patience is to wait on your bowling swing.

Let's discuss how to wait on your bowling swing. One common thread all talented players have and you must develop is the ability to know how to wait on your bowling swing and execute your delivery with a consistent tempo.

Here are a few techniques to practice waiting on your swing:

-Get the ball into your swing early enough so you do not have to hurry the delivery from the top of your backswing to the moment of release.

-Avoid “grabbing” the ball at the top of the swing. Retain consistent grip pressure on the ball during the backswing and forward swing motions and entering into the release zone.

-Maintain an athletic body posture and avoid unnecessary upper body movement as you walk and swing your bowling ball.

Bowling competitively can make any bowler leave a comfort zone and make occasional errant shots.

Make sure you avoid hurrying your steps and your downswing while also avoiding grabbing your bowling ball by applying excessive gripping pressure with your fingers and thumb.

The tendency to hurry your swing through in anticipation of trying to make a critical shot and strike is a direct by-product of tension and the competitive urge to win.

Wait on your bowling swing, keep your eyes focused on and commit to hitting your target, and do not hurry your footwork and your swing cycle. Success relies on good swing discipline and swing awareness.

Another factor involved in making a good swing and release is to complete your swing and follow-through motion. Never give up on your forward swing by decelerating your arm and slowing your release process. Attack the pins but do so with good balance and posture as you slide and release your ball.
