Bowl In The Moment

By: bowlingball.com, 1/3/16

Successful bowlers, ones who have enjoyed many good competitive outings, know that it is important to bowl in the moment.

No bowler in history has ever mastered the game entirely so it is important to place most emphasis on not getting ahead of yourself when you bowl in competition.

The commonly used phrase “one shot at a time” can still be a powerful tool to help you pay attention to what you must do on each and every shot and avoid thinking too far ahead to future frames or games in anticipation of winning.

By focusing on what you are about to do on the lanes and not about what has happened in the past or what will likely occur in future frames or games is a time tested and proven approach to getting the most out of your game skills each time you compete.

You may have heard or read about terms such as “keep your eyes on your target” or “think only about a good start and a good finish” to your approach, or perhaps other related terms.

These examples of references to staying focused and paying attention to what is happening on the lanes and with your physical game while bowling in competition is exactly what the phrase “bowl in the moment” refers.

The concept of “bowl in the moment” does not imply bowling slowly or taking excessive time preparing to bowl or aiming too long on the approach before walking to the foul line.

Instead, “bowl in the moment” simply is a reminder to think only of what you are about to do next, how you can give yourself the best chances at making a good shot, and exactly how you will make an adjustment on playing the lanes, if one is needed.

As example, recording a high series in league play is a matter of bowling three high scores equaling a high series.

However, each game consists of twelve opportunities to strike giving you 36 total opportunities to make a good shot and record a strike.

It gets down to making as many good shots, one at a time, which leads you to the high series score.

This concept, of course, is applied to tournaments. Since you cannot win the tournament the first game, you must engage in making as many good shots to record good game scores thereby giving yourself a chance to win on the final game, or series of games, in long format events.

You know the drill - one good shot at a time; bowl in the moment.
