Relax your bowling muscles during competition. Tension can have an adverse affect on your physical movements and your judgement in making decisions.
Relaxed muscles move swiftly whereas tight muscles move more slowly. Because of this, it is best to practice using as least amount of muscle tension in your bowling arm, legs, bowling shoulder, and neck.
We know that anxiety or tension is normal when you face competition trying to win over your opponents during leagues or tournaments.
Every bowler experiences tension or anxiety to some degree regardless of their experience and skill levels.
Your task is to control your nerves by slowing yourself down during your pre-shot routine and making sure that you begin your approach movements begin smoothly and unhurried.
Allowing your nerves to get the best of you also affects your decision making process when you must make adjustments along the way in league play or in tournaments.
After all, adjustments relate to both physical motion changes and lane play strategies.
To think clearly when you get nervous is something you can practice and improve upon.
First, understand that no matter how nervous you might feel, you can still make smooth and effective body movements by knowing that the two are separate bodily functions.
Nerves are really nothing more than added energy your body produces when your brain determines it is time to perform.
Use this added energy to an advantage. As you progress through each competitive session, your nerves easily become working energy to allow you to perform to a high standard if you just allow this to happen.
The notion of trusting your game stems from the relationship in how you feel versus how you can perform movements leading to successful shots based on past performances.
You need not be a scientist to know that if you relax your bowling muscles, your chances at maintaining a consistent tempo when you bowl are enhanced greatly. Another way to consider relaxing your bowling muscles is to establish a reliable tempo suited to your game. Try and reproduce the same movements each successive shot and not vary the speed of your steps or swing unless you make the decision to do so when adjusting to changing lane conditions. Being nervous equals having working energy. Relax and bowl!
