If you are looking for footwork bowling tips, think in terms of walking a consistently each step.
No bowler can totally ignore his or her footwork technique and expect to make improvement in the game.
Here are a few tips:
*Use your natural length walking stride.
*Avoid stepping side to side (as ice speed skaters) but rather walk a more straightforward path (more closely to a gymnast on the balance beam or a tightrope walker in the circus).
*The pace of steps should match a smooth walking motion to the foul line with a slight heel-to-toe action leading into the slide step coupled with a gradually increase in pace each successive step.
*Maintain a slight amount of knee flex during the first steps of your approach and then allow your knees to flex a bit more on your final two steps so the big muscles of your sliding leg help stabilize your body as you release your bowling ball.
*The slide step should glide into the approach with most of your weight balanced on the ball of your sliding foot initially and then your weight becomes more evenly distributed on your sliding heel and sole of your bowling shoe.
If there is an area in the game where consistency makes a difference, it is footwork leading the path to accuracy. It all begins from the ground up and is developed by using
sound footwork techniques.
Another factor related to accuracy is your bowling swing. Your bowling swing depends on good tempo and direction, the same as your footwork. Since your footwork is your transportation mechanism to swing and deliver your bowling ball, a reliable swing cannot exist consistently without first establishing reliable footwork. Develop a reliable footwork walking pattern and you will make it much easier to also develop a reliable bowling swing pattern.
