Layout: 50 x 5 x 40
Pro-Lane with Typical house pattern laid down by the all new KEGEL Atlas machine.

Comes fresh from Utah with a 2000 grit finish on the cover.
I tested with a fresh 3000 grit Vise pad and then changed the surface to the all new Storm rough cut and rough edge and smooth edge finishing compounds.

At factory finish, the Eternity Pi was super gritty and the ball changed motions a lot quicker than I would like for myself. The ball is very muscular in design strength, so with an overabundance of revs and the lack of speed, I changed the surface to 3000. That did help the Eternity Pi go further down the lane, but still a little early and large motion for me. At that point, I went to the pro shop and used a small dab of rough edge for each quarter of the ball for about 30 seconds each quarter, then applied smooth edge the same way, about 30 seconds on each quarter. The last surface change was MONEY for me! If you go to my YouTube channel, you can watch and witness the change this finally did for me. I can get deeper and more open with this ball where the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout would now be a step down in my bag. The VE Blackout was the strongest overall piece I used regularly, but NOW the Eternity

Ball layout: 4 x 5 x 2 3/8th – 2000 grit finish
Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down and tested on Pro-Lane at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, Pa.
Having drilled the OG Reality, which to me had the roll and shape of a stronger version of one of my all-time favorite balls – the Roto Grip Epic Odyssey, I was excited to drill an even STRONGER version of the Reality. The prior 2 balls in the Reality series, the Altered Reality and the Reality Check were both hit or miss for me. Both of them were very “condition specific” for me. The Harsh Reality is THE strongest in overall core / coverstock I have ever rolled. A TON more energy going off the end of the pattern and entering the pin deck. It just might be “me” but I really do think I hit the ball hit the pins harder. More of a solid sound hit even on the half and light hits. The coloring for mine is really easy to see and read the ball roll and reaction, I can see the “creamsicle orange” and flat gray colors really well and the coloring has me see the reaction a good deal better than any other recent solids. The Harsh Reality is now the TOP DOG in my arsenal. My go to arsenal for the 2 different centers I bowl in, one center has Pro-Lane and the other center has really worn in HPL, are as follows: Harsh Reality, Attention Star, Absolute Power, Optimum Idol, Hustle RIP, and Lighting Storm spare ball / or Ocean Blue Ice Storm (depending on my mood that morning when I pack up and head out.)

What I learned, enjoyed and struggled with:
All new Harsh Reality Pearl, HRP for short, was a new kind of look on the lane for me, I am known to “milder” asymmetric core balls with shorter pin because they mainly are too flippy for my current ball speed and game, but I found the HRP to be a new tool to add to my current arsenal, not really replacing anything other than a ball that was overlapping something else in my current ball line. If you review my , you will notice I was able to play in the normal track area and just my angles a little to stay comfort in my zones, I felt comfortable enough to teach myself something I wanted to learn but was afraid to try due to prior injuries and the lack of time to really work on it. Even at 54 years of age, with 2 almost bionic legs, I taught myself how to walk around the ball return and slide at the gutter cap on the right side of the lane. Amazingly, I only took a few missteps and kept on going. A practice session of 2 ½ hours is unusual for me due to my overall endurance. I quite enjoyed this practice session. Every adjustment I made with the HRP, worked well

900 Global Origin:

Core/Cover: Ellipse Core with A.I. Technology with RB93 hybrid cover with Power Edge finish.

Layout: 5 ¼ x 4 x 3 ¼

To bring you up to speed with the latest High-Performance ball from 900 Global, here is some tidbits on the all-new Origin. First off is the new Ellipse, the Y and Z axles weights are evenly distributed across them and using a single density material on the core allows even balance from the top to the bottom of the weight block, creating the most torque on a core that 900 Global has ever produced. Now for the RB93 cover, yes, it is a hybrid and the 900 Global “reserve blend” now known as “RB”, has a reading of 93. Based on a 1 to 100 scale, it's the most aggressive hybrid cover that EVER been on any 900 Global balls in their history.

Now, on the lanes, I took this new knowledge and applied it to my practice to get the best bang for my practice bucks. Knowing that I could really use my typical HS starting and targets, I just decided to move WAY to the right --- Yes, I am a lefty for those that don’t know me, and used the first tracer board as a target and got to the spot consistently, and the Origin did read pretty well from that spot, went a little strong on fresh, but after repeating on hitting the same zone of the lane, the ball really started to develop better and better as time went on during practice. In league for me, it is not the first ball out of the bag unless I am bowling on older HPL or Brunswick panels because it need the extra length, in which the Origin does provide for me. The more I opened my angles on Pro-Lane, and using the outside tracer board, the better the Origin performed. It outdueled my Attention Star S2, because the more carried down occurred, the S2 started to quit a little, and maybe more because of the finish on the cover, but I did not want to break or change that cover on the S2, because its perfect for me as it is. So, if you are in of that new BIG piece to add to your league or tournament bag, look no further, the Origin is the best bet for you.

Check with your local pro shop to see when the next Matchmaker Live! Event will be occurring in your area to try this and 7 other balls from Storm, Roto Grip and 900 Global.

900 Global Reality Check
Layout: 60 x 2 x 70
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft THS.

Since I added a longer pin Asyms in my bag earlier this summer with the very versatile Storm Infinite Physix, I decided to go back to my normal P2P layouts that I normally use Asyms pieces, like the all new Reality Check. When myself and Mike Sinek saw this core, we were truly stoked about it. Reminds us of an older line from Roto Grip that we both had great success with a “few” years ago. We texted and called each other to talk about the new Disturbance core and how it will fit into the Global line very well. The Reality was a good all-around Asyms for me, and the Altered Reality was really sharp and crisp for me, most of the time on THS, it was too much. Then the RAD R&D guys at SPI came up with the ultimate solution, developing a cover similar to the S84 response cover that still gave great length, but with a stronger amount of backend shape. On the lanes I was quite cautious at the start knowing how wicked the new Infinite Physix was, but once I got more and more shots with the Reality Check, I realized it was quite surprising “calm” in the middle part of the lane, less angle then the Infinite Physix and also was able to move anywhere on both house patterns and felt comfortable making good shots over and over again. I was able to assist in three SPI Matchmaker events in three different states, three different lane types and length of patterns, and by far the Reality Check was the most asked for ball in all three events, from the 2 handed youth all the way up to the 72 year old that was getting back into bowling after several years of being out of the sport, it was the BEST versatile Asym ball I have had the pleasure to drill and use.

With the discontinuation of my favorite ball, the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid, I have been looking for the “peace of mind” reliable hybrid piece to fill in my bag. I bowl mainly on Brunswick and HPL lane panels and both centers use what I feel to be a heavier volume house pattern than other places I bowl as well. The Sublime overall length all ball motion was a tick longer than the Hyped Hybrid, but the back-end reaction was stronger and more powerful through the pin deck. With the first in the 900 Global brand, the barbell shaped core with more weight on the top and bottom of the core and with the A.I. technology wrapped around the core, the hitting and torque it provides is amazing when it comes to pin carry. I took a worn 4000 grit pad and hand sanded it to change the cover texture just enough to allow the Sublime to have a similar overall ball motion like my Hyped Hybrids. The Sublime will be getting plenty of use over the next several months. Maybe I can knock out a few award scores with the Sublime like I did in the past with the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid. Layout: 50 x 6 x 55
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft THS
Comparing the new Dark Moss to the Original Wolverine, I first prepped the OG Wolverine with factory 4K FAST as per instruction from stormbowling.com, to make sure I can compare them ball to ball, surface to surface and layout to layout. Using the identical layout, surface and practice time, the Dark Moss did not disappoint me, S70 pearl coverstock with the core made from two different cores, using the bottom portion of the BADGER core and top portion of the HONEY BADGER core resulted in the best of both worlds with this core contraction. The Lacerate 2.0 core really helps with direction changes on any type of lane pattern, surfaces and environments. I did notice that the Dark Moss moved an inch or two earlier than the Blue Wolverine, and it may be because of the coloring in the 2 different Wolverines is my theory. But overall the Dark Moss performed the same as the OG Wolverine overall. For those that LOVED the IQ Tour Emerald, you will be happy with this Wolverine. I enjoyed using this ball in practice on two different THS, and also about 30 minutes on Don Carter pattern, when other lefties were using urethane and they were having fits from earlier urethane movement or no recovery urethane motion, I was able to move a few boards right inside of them and open up the angle a little more towards and at the gutter. Medium strength overall, but it BIT through the pins like it was biting through bones, just like a Wolverine would do.

Layout: 55 x 4 ¼ x 40 – 4000ab out of box and tested with 2000ab.
Here we go: For the #striking worldwide fans – the Ordnance C4 core returns in this new ball from Global with the new 701 solid reactive cover. Using on fresh and used light to medium volume house pattern, the Xponent was reliable and predictable with playing up the track area and getting closer to the gutter and going up the lighter volume part the pattern – outside of 8-10 boards, once I bumped way inside around 16-20 board, it still held energy through the heads and did not burn up. Reminding me of the Zen Master with a longer pin layout I had a couple of years ago. Does not roll heavily through the front part of the lanes like other solids in this performance level. The Xponent matched up very well all on a full spectrum of lane surfaces and patterns. The Xponent can be rolled and be very useful from once-a-week league bowler all the way up to the top professional. Witnessed a very powerful collegiate bowler and I thought he would just throw it

Layout: 5 x 5 x 4
Tested on Pro_lane and HPL lane surfaces with 42 ft and 44 ft house patterns with both centers using new KEGEL Atlas machines.

Here you go… During my practice and testing, I was impressed with the overall shape and reaction of the new ZEN 25. I may be one of the few people that did not fall in love with the OG Zen. I was more the Zen Gold Label guy. Which brings me to my next point, Comparing these 2 Zens, I found the ZEN 25 a little earlier in backend reaction, but not as sharp as the Gold Label. The Zen 25 reminds me more like the Hyped Pearl from Roto Grip from a few years ago. Not a benchmark ball for me, a half step down, my current benchmark ball is the Storm Equinox, so it will be one step down, with the next step down would be the all new Roto Grip Rock Star, then the Roto Grip X-Ray. Going up from the Equinox would be the Attention Star S2 then Global Origin to complete my current winter / spring arsenal out for league play.

Layout: 80 x 4 ½ x 35 – finished with Storm Reacta Gloss
The ongoing saga of the Zen line has just hit GOLD LEVEL!
Here is what I found: Knowing the legacy the 900 Global Zen line has been, I was looking forward to drilling this one a little stronger than prior Zens I used in the past. After going with a long front number and a power pin to pap layout, I witnessed the strongest angular symmetric ball I have EVER used. Mine rolled so “quiet” down the lane; it did not think I would see any reaction until it reached the pins – AND BOY! I was quite surprised when the ball started over the farther tracer board, it woke up and turned and faced the pocket like a mean Tasmanian Devil. I was gainfully giggling like a little school kid and was quite happy to see the ball react like that. Shot after Shot, less angle or more angles the Zen Gold Label was pure MONEY. Even after the lanes were blown up by a ball demo – it was very responsive and held up very well. If you are looking for the BIG hook pearl ball, the

The Zen Soul was a great addition to the Zen line. I found in the past the OG Zen with 1500 grit was a little too snappy and unforgiving for me. Once SPI released the 4KFAST, I changed the surface and it gained more confidence in the OG Zen. The Master rolled WAY too early for my style of bowling, then entered the heart of the line up, The Zen Soul, with 4K FAST I was able to use it in a tournament setting, league and practicing. Well rounded ball with great shape early and late, unlike the Master that seemed to “give up” on me, I felt very comfortable playing the ditch with it, using it inside where the other lefties were not, ie: inside of 3rd arrow. The S77 Response cover was an excellent choice to match with the ZEN core. I’m at “peace” when recommending this ball to the average league bowler, they will get great control, a versatile ball that they can depend on week after week.

Surface and oil/cleaner: Older HPL and Ice oil with Defense C cleaner
Results: Found this ball to be MORE aggressive than any ball off of the pattern, this ball make a complete fish hook off of both patterns, the ball read great thru the front and mid part of the lanes, but once off the pattern, especially the THS, it went sideways for me. This ball needs speed and with me just back from knee and hand surgeries, I did not do this ball justice with that layout, I applied some Storm shine and it really helped out a lot. It did get thru the pun deck really well and in the 12 games I used with it, having a slight polish on it has helped it a lot. Box condition you will need some ball speed to control it, a little polish will help you.

Roto Grip Attention Star

Ball specs: MOMENTOUS™ AV + A.I. CORE TECHNOLOGY with E-Trax Pearl coverstock and finished with Reacta Gloss finish.

Layout: 5 x 3 ¾ x 3

Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down and tested on Pro-Lane at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, Pa.

With the introduction of the Momentous AV core that has been used overseas in the Roto Grip Attention line since 2020, it was awesome to see the minds at Roto Grip bring that core to the World-Wide market. Wrapping the core is the all new A.I. outer core technology that was introduced last summer at International Bowl Expo, it is given the tour players a “cleaner” reading ball that the line has been missing. For us, the average Joe Bowler, that equates to a ball that stays true in reaction and is able to be used across a broad range of house patterns and tournament play. For me, the Attention Star is the FIRST ball since the start of the fall bowling season that I have been able to use through the whole league matches. May it be a 2 person / 4 game scratch doubles, 3-person scratch league or a 4-person mixed league, I am able to stay in the ball all night long and the overall reaction in the back end is weaker than the new Storm DNA Coil, but stronger than the Magic Gem or the Absolute Power. I would say it's very similar to the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout, but just a “tick” smoother on the dry friction. I mainly used it on Pro-Lane at ABC North, but had the pleasure of using it a Colony Park Lanes in York, Pa., where the surface is older HPL with a TON of fraction, every other ball I tried, jumped real strongly off the back of the pattern, but the Attention Star plowed through and was able to bowl a very respectable match (for myself) 963 for 4 games.

The Attention Star is #3 in out of 4 in ball strength for me and will be replacing the VEBO. In order of strength will be #1 – DNA Coil, #2 - Optimum Idol, #3 - Attention Star and #4 – Hustle RIP. For Colony Park Lanes my bag looks a little different: #1 – Optimum Idol, #2 – Absolute Power, #3 – Absolute Power and #4 – Lighting Storm or Ocean Blue Ice Storm.

Roto Grip Attention Star S2:
Momentous™ AV + Energized by A.I. Core with eTrax+ Hybrid coverstock
Box finish: 2000 grit Abarlon
Here is why is new Attention Star is a rising to the TOP of my favorite balls:
Seeing that the Master of Squad RG, Chris Schlemer a.k.a Roto Schlem, brought the eTrax+ Hybrid coverstock from the one of my favorite balls from the past year the TNT Infused, and added to the Momentous AV core from the prior Attention series from overseas and then wrapping it with A.I. core technology, brought the 2nd release in the Attention Star series to league and tournament bowlers a new way to attack the lanes. I cannot say how much I love and use the Attention Star since it was released and this S2 being added just added another tool to my toolbox. The way the OG Star rolled for me, it was clean, predictable, not an “over reactions” ball at any point during my ownership of it. The S2 adds a second layer to the predictability, with hitting the coverstock with 2000 grit evens out the pearl aspects of the coverstock and gives me another even and readable ball reaction. The taller core helps me get the ball further down lane then my other asymmetrical balls I currently have and still provides a BIG punch in the backend of the lane and does not lose energy when tracking through the pin deck. This will be #4 out of #6. The bags are now: Hustle X-Ray, Lighting Blackout, Sublime Focus, Attention Star S2, Attention Star, and Origin. Don’t sleep on the Attention Star S2. It will add some “Merry” and “Jolly” to your bowling game. Check with your local pro shop operators to see when their next Matchmaker Live event will be happening.

Roto Grip Clone: Cloned ET core with Optitrax solid reactive cover.

Layout: 50 x 3 ½ x 35: finished with Storm Reacta Gloss.

With the recent change in my game and health, for the better, I wanted a good and strong solid reactive mid-length with little less flare than the other 3 new balls I had drilled. We went with the above layout. The initial few throws were stronger and heavier through the pocket than my Exotic Gem, I needed to open up and swing it a little more and open up the pattern and lane. After practicing for 30-35 minutes with the Clone, I became comfortable with the strong roll and blistering through the pins. My friend and 900 Global staff member could not believe how well the Clone rolled and reacted for me. The Exotic Gem is not as strong as the Clone for me, and I feel it rolled and performed better than the OG UFO and UFO Alert. Used the Clone and Tour Dynam-X exclusively since getting these balls in my hands. If you need that new medium to heavy “oil” ball the Clone is out of this WORLD and should be used by every smart league and tournament bowler.

Ball: Devour

Surface: box condition
Test patterns: 41ft THS and 37ft sport pattern
Outcome: I tested this ball along with iQ Tour solid and the balls were identical in reaction. Ultra smooth and predictable, and great pin carry. Just like my Tour, once it sheened up a little, I was able to keep playing the same part of the lane, shot after shot, a lot of other balls you need to start moving or adjusting after a game or so, I found this ball to almost adapt itself to the changes in the breakdown of the pattern. I was able to move left and go up the gutter and also move deep inside and play 4th arrow and have the confidence I was going to have the same reaction shot after shot. If you are lacking ball speed, this will be a great ball for you, amazing pin carry when I slowed down to about 14 to 15 mph… Amazing ball for both sport and house patterns. A ball you can use across a range of short to long patterns which is hard to find in this day of age of “specialized” ball making. If you liked the iQ Tour solid, then you would LOVE this ball.

Ball: Haywire

Outcome: Oh WOW!!! Largest movement in the backend of the lane I ever seen. I was really surprise of the motion, maybe the colors have a part in it, but at first I could not stay off the head pin playing the same part of the lane I was with the Menace. BIG step right and look further down the lane helped me get the reaction and carry I wanted and needed. Oh my GOSH this ball is going to be the Ball of the Year… This ball was not affected by the ice/fire oil patterns I tested on as much as the Menace was. The ball push thru the “flood” and still drove thru the pins like a fully loaded truck and trailer, I have not seen pin mix like that ever, the new pins flew around like toothpicks. Like I said this will be the Ball of the Year, hands down…

Roto Grip Hustle P/R/O ball review:
Layout: 50x4x70
Coverstock: Hybrid – 2 parts solid and 1 part pearl
Core: the new HUSTLE core
Finish: 1500 grit with polish
Low to Mid flare potential
Lane details: HPL with Flex machine 44ft Kegel pattern with Fire and Ice oil
Results: Comparing to the Loco Solid that was released last year, the Hustle goes a little longer down the lane before any reaction occurs, but the entry is almost identical to how the Loco Solid entered the pocket for me. Unlike the Loco Solid, if I did square up and went up the boards a little straighter, it did not have an earlier reaction like the Loco, which is nice considering that are lanes surface is quite “gritty” and tends to read earlier the SPL and newer HPL. Great THS ball for the money and also for shorter patterns like the new KEGEL destination patterns.

Roto Grip Hustle RIP
Ball Specs: Hustle Core with VTC Solid Reactive cover and finish with Reacta Gloss

Layout Specs: 45 x 5 x 45 - tested on THS with a slight bit of out of bounds towards the gutters and Pro Lane panels

My insight: When I opened the box - I was transported back in time to 2017/2018 when I drilled my second Hustle that was close to this shade. The general look of the ball is very sweet, like purple concord grapes from the Erie region of Pennsylvania. On the lanes the reaction was quite similar to my first INK in 2017, little earlier in motion compared to my Hustle USA w/a very similar layout of 50 x 5 x 45 with 500ab, 2000ab, with Reacta Gloss. The RIP still saves a good bit of energy through the pins, not as much as my Roto Grip Duo, but very close. Going back and forth with the Duo, the Hustle was not as jumpy off the end of the pattern like the Duo was when getting it out the drier portion of the pattern and would be smoother on the transition from end of the pattern to the pocket. Looking at the same tracer boards as a target, I was 7 boards left on the approach, I'm left handed for those that are reading this then I was with the Duo using the same target. A great ball for anyone that loves to bowl, the Hustle RIP is made for all skill levels, from the first timers all the way up to the professionals you see on TV and videos. Release date is fast approaching, make sure you visit your local pro shop to get yours. The RIP makes the pins REST IN PEACE!

Low to Mid flare potential

Unlike the Loco Pearl, if I did square up and went up the boards a little straighter, I got less over/under when playing the track area on the left side of the lanes, which is nice considering that are lanes surface is quite “gritty” and tends to read earlier the SPL and newer HPL. Great THS ball for the money if you need a little less length and hook then the Hy-wire, this would be a great ball to “ball down” to.

Roto Grip Hustle X-Ray

PRODUCT DETAILS: COLOR: Slate / Black - CORE: Hustle™ Core - COVER: VTC™ Solid Reactive BOX FINISH: 4000-grit Abralon®

Layouts: X-RAY # 1: 5 X 4 X 4 … X-Ray #2: 5 x 3 ½ X 2 ½

My updated specs: Ball speed: average 15.5 mph. - Rev Rate: 425 – Axle tilt: 16 degrees – Axis rotation 70 degrees.

Since the introduction of the Roto Grip Hustle line 8 years ago, I knew that the Hustle line would be a “game changer” for years to come. The Hustle INK established itself as a key piece for all levels of bowlers from weekly league bowlers all the way up to the professional ranks, like recording the 34th sanctioned 900 series to winning national PWBA and PBA tournaments over the past 8 years. My favorite Hustle all-time has been the Hustle INK for year after year even when Roto Grip released new ones to the line, the INK still stood out over all them until last year when Roto Grip released the RIP version and the RIP became my new favorite since my old INKs I had were worn out. The RIP to me is the INK 2.0 with the coloring being dark and “liquid” looking. Now the X-Ray has hit the market, the RIP has been benched for now for the simple fact the X-Ray rolls a little sooner but still packs a BIG punch entering the pin deck. I have a few standard layouts since hoping back into 15lbs equipment for the first time in 5 years due to bad car wrecks – YES – plural, 2 over the past 5 years, and I drilled the first one at 5 x 4 x 4 and now recently drilled a second one – with 5 x 3 ½ x 2 ½. The reactions on both are not but amazing. X-Ray #1 is super reliable front to back with a nice little late kick entering the pocket and X-Ray #2 is quite stronger coming off the pattern and was quite shocking to me to see that much motion in the back end that was still controllable. The X-Ray #2 likes the oil a little bit more than X-Ray #1. When you watch my video, you will see X-Ray #1 I play straighter with it and use smaller angles and X-Ray #2 I can swing the lane as much as I want. What a truly versatile bowling ball for the price point that the Hustle line is in. Don’t be afraid to try one of the Hustles,

Tested on: 41ft THS and Don Carter pattern
Surface and oil/cleaner: Older HPL and Ice oil with Defense C cleaner
Results: Found the Hyper Cell to be the MOST continuous ball I ever rolled… The overall hook was a little stronger then my Defiant with similar lay out, but what I noticed the most about this ball was the complete destruction of the pins and how it ever stopped going thru the rack. The ball never slowed down going thru the pin deck. Even of the longer pattern, the ball had great recovery and did not over hook or hook right off the pattern. The colors of the ball look great and so far after 30 games I did not see a reduction in hook or reaction. Roto Grip has a WINNER with this ball!

Test pattern: 41ft THS and 39ft sport pattern high volume - HPL lane surface with Kegel FLEX machine using fire and ice oil.
Results: The ball reaction was a little later then I expected. The angle entry was good and sharp and the performance in the mid point of the lane reminded me of the Totally Defiant and the Cell Pearl, but with a more aggressive finish and angle in the pocket. I was more comfortable to play outside of the track area on both patterns due to the overall length this drilling and allow the ball to transition well off of the pattern. I did tinker playing between 4th and 5th arrow, and I was surpised it did not burned up and retain good hitting power thru the pin deck. This ball does not quit and I feel it will be a bench mark ball for a number of bowlers.

Hysteria - 60 x 4 x 40 pin up - out of the box surface
Oil patterns: 42ft Kegel Flex with Fire and Ice oil and 43ft PBA regional pattern
Lane surface: HPL installed 10 years ago and rescreened in 2014
On the house pattern this ball was "scary" wicked. To make a good comparison, this ball reminds me alot of the Nomad Solid, with smidge more back end action. Was able to play any part of the lane I wanted to; 5th row, the gutter, or the track area, with even just slightly hitting the cover with a really used 4000ab pad. On the 43ft PBA pattern, it was a little delayed getting to the head pin. So, I hit the cover with an used 3000ab pad and it just gave it enough to make it playable for me. As the pattern broke down, I was able to give it a little more room left and play closer to the gutter and still have a strong enough reaction to get to the pocket and actually a better look then when the pattern was fresh.

Roto Grip Idol Cosmos
Layout: 60 x 1 1⁄2 x 60
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft
THS.
I decided to drill the IDOL Cosmos with one of my favorite THS killer layouts. I bowled in 2
different centers with vastly different lane surfaces and overall length and volume of the THS.
So, while my main ball out of the bag to start has been the Roto Grip HYPED Hybrid for about 9
months now, I was missing that later motion but not super flippy like a Hyped Pearl or even an
Electrify Pearl. Normally, as the night of league matches goes on, The Hyped Hybrid is very
clean and carries a TON, it actually is still at 1500 grit polished and I am determined to leave it
that way, because if it is not broke, don’t fix it, but as the matches progress, I would find I would
need to have a smidge longer length before it would start to make any direction changes, I tried
an Idol Pearl, 2 Hyped Pearls, (2 in P2P and a 6 in P2P) in 1500 grit polished and 4K Fast and
even my own rendition of 4K FAST with finishing it with a 5000 grit pad, nothing seemed to get
me over that mid match hump, until the Roto Grip Cosmos came along. Was able to project
outside where the other lefties were playing, was able to open up the angles and even close
down the angles and play relatively straight with the Cosmos.

FLARE POTENTIAL: High

All new Roto Grip Magic Gem is a new hybrid with the proven Defiant core with a MicroTrax hybrid coverstock that is 2 parts pearl and 1 part solid. The core is the fastest revving, and the MircoTrax Hybrid coverstock displaces oil at the highest rate of displacement than any prior or current hybrid coverstocks Roto Grip offers.
Now that the "powerful" information is out of the way, let's chat about the reaction and ball movement of the Magic Gem on the lanes.

Overall I was impressed with the pin action with the Magic Gem. It hit like an overloaded 18 wheeler. The overall motion was less aggressive than the TNT infused on the backend, compared to the Infused, my starting point is 4 boards left and I still use the left outer target board as my target. not a strong hockey stick reaction, but a very aggressive continuous recovery in the backend. If you watch my YouTube video you can see how the Magic Gem picks up and changes direction and like I said earlier, hits so hard, it knocks some pins into the next universe. Used it on fresh and overnight sitting house patterns on Pro-Lane and SPL with similar results. While using the Magic Gem, the carry down did not affect the overall performance and carry and small adjustments with feet moving left of center of the approach and still using the outside outer target board, I was able to stay with the Magic Gem longer than any other ball I currently have. If you need to have that aggressive, but still predictable, the Magic Gem is the ball for you.

Surface: box condition
Test patterns: 41ft THS and 37ft sport pattern
Outcome: Using a layout I had on the Sinister and Hyper Cell I figured to get a similar reaction. Smooth roll and not an overreaction in the backend. Actually, it was weaker in the backend then I expected, which was good me because my Haywire is stronger than I thought it was going to be. The deflection on the pin deck was a little higher than I thought it would be, could be the new pins Colony Park just put in. Found the Menace with this layout great for truly super wet/super tacky conditions. I love to play left of center and being able to just have straighter path to the pocket then the having to play the whole lane, and this ball and layout allow me to. Even though this ball is a “HP4”, it’s versatile enough to be a benchmark ball for about anyone.

Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Ball Specs: Ikon core with A.I. outer core with Micro-Trax solid coverstock
Layout: 5 x 4 x 3 at box finish of 2000 grit abralon
Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down and tested on Pro-Lane at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, Pa., and Colony Park Lanes and Games in York, Pa.
With the past overwhelming success of the original Roto Grip Idol, we brought the past to the current technological levels that Storm is known for. The Ikon core is an “Icon” when it comes to the Roto Grip ball lines. I noticed over the OG Idol, that the travel through the pin deck has improved with the A.I. outer core technology and updating the cover to the Micro-Trax it digs through the pattern, but does not lose any energy in the backend of the lane. When the Optimum Idol gains some lane shine and matches more to the Pro-Lane panels I bowl most on, the consistency of reaction and pin carry increases. When I bowled on older HPL – I freshened the cover with a new VISE 2000 grit pad and once again the reaction and pin carry was intense. I tried every aspect of my game, outside the track, in the track, and around the track area and the new Idol responded to my every need. I can now see why I seen other bowlers chomping at the bit when this ball was unveiled, this ball will be a HUGE hit for any level of league bowler and tournament bowler. A stronger version of a Phaze II is where I would put this in my tournament arsenal.

Here Ya Go: The all new Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl, aka: OIP is a ball that we in the #RG Crew have been missing for a LONGGGGG time. Just like the Big Brother, the Attention Star, this ball was created to make you think again about the strength of the Roto Grip Brand. This version of the MicroTrax Pearl reminds me a lot like the MicroBite Pearl we had on the Defiant Edge. While rolling this ball versus another symmetric pearl ball I could tell the OIP created better pin action while not under producing when the ball got into more of the middle of lane pattern where the heavier oil is. Smoother transition from wet to dry than my Summit Pearl, but definitely more length and angle the original Optimum Idol. The OIP had a shape down lane similar to the Storm Frantic from a few years ago. The Storm Frantic was one of the best balls I remember seeing PDW and other Storm staffers used in the past. YOU will see plenty of the OIPs going down the lane in your leagues and tournaments soon if not already. My current league bags for house pattern scratch league will be: Roto Grip X-Ray, Lighting Blackout, Optimum Idol solid, Optimum Idol Pearl, Harsh Reality Pearl, along with my RG spare ball.

On the house pattern, the ball gave up a little when playing inside of the track area, but once I started playing the track area or just left of it, the ball was MONEY. I actually like this ball better then the Uproar and that is really hard for me to believe. Once the pattern broke down, I could move left and left and look further down lane, and I could repeat that shot on a consistent basis. It actually roll better on the 43ft PBA regional pattern, I could play left of the track area or play closer to the gutter and use a little more end over end release and the OutCry was making the pins scream and "cry out" in pain. The ball worked well even as the pattern broke down by me moving my eyes right a little and squaring up. The OutCry will be a great bench mark ball for your fall arsenal.

The all new Roto Grip Rock Star has been a BEAST on the lanes in league play for me in the past 4
weeks. The motion is very easy to read, not jumpy, humpy, or bumpy. Stronger than my Roto Grip X-Ray
with identical layout, but more length and not as quick to jump off the pattern as my Optimum Idol with a
similar layout of 3x6x1. Similar in overall performance as a Hyped solid on fresh, but as the pattern
breaks down, the Hyped Solid would be put away, the Rock Star stays on the rack for all 3 games. The
only other ball in recent memory like this is the Storm Equinox, where just making small adjustments
allows me to stay in the ball longer and not have to deal with a ball change so quickly. The lowest league
match has been 696 and the highest was 778, my current average is 212. The Rock Star is what I call a
“keeper” where one will be in my league bag and as bigger tournaments are on the horizon, a second
Rock Star will be drilled for tournaments. Current league bag is now as follows - Rock Star, Equinox, and
Attention Star S2. Now only bringing that ONE back to league - because these 3 balls cover everything I need in league

Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive
Ball Info: RST core with A.I. outer core with MicroTrax solid cover stock – box condition is 2000 grit and is used at that 2000 grit. Layout is 3 x 6 x 2 and used on 39ft and 42ft prior USBC tournament pattern.
My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16
degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 15/16th up 3/16th. Tested on Pro-lane panels at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, PA.

The latest asymmetrical release from Roto Grip combines 2 great prior products with a new outer core. The very popular RST core that has been used in domestic and international releases for a few years has been updated with the A.I. outer core technology and pairing it up with the MICROTRAX cover provides a piece into the line up with have been missing since the GEM was discontinued. Since I am pretty set on my league arsenal, I decided to drill this RST Hyperdrive for tournament and sport patterns. I used the layout 3 x 6 x 2, which is like my weak THS layout, but with a little stronger pin. On the 39th foot pattern, where most everyone else go straight up the lane, I am able to go around them and still make good consistent shots to the pocket and able to stay in that area of the lane through most of the night. Where with prior equipment I was using, like the LEVEL, Optimum Idol, Rock Star and Equinox, the LEVEL and Rock Star were too weak to play up the lane and the O.I. and Equinox were too unstable and tended to give me over/under reactions when trying to play tighter lines to the pocket. The RST Hyperdrive is a “no-brainer” for me on sport patterns between 39 to 45ft. When practicing on THS, it was a home-run also when it came to using it after the lanes were beaten up a good bit. Will add this to my THS once my O.I. gets used up. But for now, my league bag will be Rock Star, Attention Star S2. Tournament bags for all patterns are LEVEL, X-Ray, Rock Star #2, RST Hyperdrive, iQ Tour A.I. and Origin.

Sinister - 60 x 4 x40 pin thru ring finger - out of the box
Oil patterns: 42ft Kegel Flex with Fire and Ice oil and 43ft PBA regional pattern
Lane surface: HPL installed 10 years ago and rescreened in 2014
On the house pattern, the ball was a little too strong in the middle of the lane when standing 22 and looking at 6-8... Moved into 29 and looked at 12-14 and the ball held better and was really strong thru the pin deck. I was really thinking that with the strong layout in this ball, it would burned up before it got to the pocket, but it did not one bit. I put the Sinister on the Innovative ball spinner and hit it with 4000ab and polished it and it gave me that additional length i was looking for when playing the lighter oil part of both patterns. On the 43ft pattern with the out of the box finish, it was just too strong to play the "playable" outside part of the pattern, BUT once polished, the Sinister was the complete package, on the fresh and also while I and another left hander beat the pattern up, I just move a little bit after a couple of frames and continued to tuck in a little to stay in the playable area.

Roto Grip TNT Infused
LAYOUT: 45 x 5 x 40
COLOR: Glow Orange / Copper / Plum
CORE: TorpexTM Core
COVER: eTraxTM PLUS Hybrid Reactive
BOX FINISH: Reacta GlossTM
BUILT FOR: Medium Oil
FLARE POTENTIAL: High

Consider yourself WARNED!
Being a HUGE fan of Roto Grip hybrids: like my current main go to ball, Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid, I was stoked when I saw the TNT line was adding a hybrid to the line up first, before a pearl version was released. Being two parts pearl and one part solid, made me even more excited. The TNT Infused has the look of a past Roto Grip ball, the DareDevil Danger, which is still one of my all-time favorite ball lines, the TNT Infused rolls and reacts a little earlier and hits harder than my Hyped Hybrid. The multi-density Torpex core is responsive and when the Infused hits the pins, it is very explosive. Comparing to the Hyped Hybrid, on Pro-Lane and SPL, the Infused does change motions early and stronger than the Hyped, where sometimes the Hyped takes longer to respond, and I can move my feet deeper into the center of the lane and not have to play so straight on those 2 types of lane surfaces, don't get me wrong, I love playing straighter when I can, but when the Hyped does not quite "get there" a nice stronger step up is the Infused. It is now my benchmark ball on Thursday nights at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg. So, now my league bags have the Magic Gem, TNT Infused, Tour Dynam-X, Virtual Energy Blackout and Hustle RIP. I would say that would be a well rounded arsenal. ( Saving the one spot for the IQ Tour U/78.
I hope this provides you some good insight and information on how the Roto Grip TNT Infused works for me.

Roto Grip Tour Dynam-X: Rondure Core w/ TourTrax solid reactive cover.

Layout: 60 x 5 x 35 with 2000 grit Abralon out of the box.

The ultimate sport pattern ball has been unleased onto the bowling world. If you liked your iQ Tour, you will LOVE the Tour Dynam-X. After debuting the ball at Bowl Expo – the buzz started right there, and the buzz has not died down at all. This is the lowest RG and DIFF ball that Roto Grip ever made! So, when I received mine, I instantly had it drilled with a very proven layout I used years ago when I rolled the ball better, and with recent changes in my health and game, I thought it would be best to see if I could re-create that magic from 4 years ago. The TD-X, my new nickname for this ball, worked amazing well on 43ft and 39ft sport patterns that were fresh and then after it was beat up by league bowlers and practice, I hoped back on the lanes and saw the same pin carry and sharpness in the backend when entering the pocket with just small adjustments on the starting point of the approaches and small adjustments getting the ball between the 2 tracer boards down lane. On a fresh medium to heavy house pattern, I was able to stand 18-20 and put the TD-X right up between the tracer boards and was striking like crazy. Was able to get left even more as the pattern conditioner pushed up between the tracer boards and moved to the dry part of the pattern, the TD-X did not hook up early which like solid reactive would normally do, like my Hyped Solid, Zen Master, and Electrify Solid, and held its own and I gain a ton more confidence the more I rolled the TD-X.

For bowlers that are looking to update or replace their main piece in their bag, or if you want to add to your current arsenal to bowl on some tougher patterns, the Tour Dynam-X is the ball for you.

Roto Grip Ultimate Wrecker
My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 15/16th up 3/16th.
Tested on Pro-lane surface on a 43ft medium volume house pattern and on HPL on Wiper V2.
Coverstock: Pure Response Hybrid coverstock
Core: Wrecker + A.I. outer core technology
Factory Finish: Power Edge
My layouts: 2x5x1 at factory finish and 2x6x4 at 2000 Ab.
After drilling my first Roto Grip Ultimate Wrecker at a 2x5x1 and trying to use it on THS and Viper patterns, I realized that this layout was a little too strong off of the pattern and basically OUT HOOKED anything I currently have once the ball got to the end of the patterns. To me it was very hook or miss. I needed to get the ball to boards 1-3 right before the breakpoint and if I did not, I missed the pocket by a good bit. It was a very “conditional” layout. So, I decided to have Earl Burger at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg to drill my second one with a layout and desired surface that he would recommend for me. Well, UW#2 is simply AMAZING and a HUGE “pin wrecker” for me on both the THS and Viper patterns I have been bowling on lately. The reaction was later down lane, not as drastic and more predictable and more to what I “like” to see in the overall ball reaction down lane. Because I did not have to have it tip on BOARD 1 to keep it on my side of the pocket. The Ultimate Wrecker is not a “tame” ball by any means. The U.W. is strong for being in the HP2 line from Roto Grip, the proven Wrecker core is back and better because we added the A.I. outer core technology to give it more POP through the pins. The U.W. can be used by any level of bowler out there because it has a great balance of great core and very proven coverstock to make it a benchmark ball for the upcoming fall leagues. Layout: 40 x 4 1/2 x 60 - box condition
Test pattern: 41ft THS and 39ft sport pattern high volume - HPL lane surface with Kegel FLEX machine using fire and ice oil.
Results: It might look like the Nomad Pearl or even the Neptune, but it is WAY better. This ball was a site to be seen. It moved in the backend so strong, I was extremely impressed. This ball out hooked my Optimus, Skid, and Totally Defiant in the back end. The ball swept thru the pin decks with relative ease. I think using a 4 1/2 pin helped the ball maintain the motion off of the pattern. I would not do a stronger degree on the hook angle, if it would be 35 to 45, it would be way to angular in the back end. The overall performace of this ball was excellent on both patterns and I highly recommend this ball to everyone even if you are rev dominant or speed dominant.

UpRoar #1: Layout: 55x4x70
Tested on: 41ft THS and Don Carter pattern
Surface and oil/cleaner: Older HPL and Ice oil with Defense C cleaner
Results: Found this ball worked really well on the THS and playing the track area, did also have good success playing straight up the lane on the Don Carter pattern, even though this has pearl additive, it did not react like a pearl additive ball, the diff on this ball make it a great benchmark ball for any skill level of bowler. When I ran into carry down, it seemed very receptive to the carry down and it kept up the overall shape down lanes where a typical pearl ball would tend to start to slide a little more or hook early. When the Carter pattern starts to give up the front part of the lane, the ball motion did not really changed that much and seemed to be very stable on fresh and used patterns. Great overall performing ball.

Roto Grip X-Cell

Coverstock: e-Trax ULTRA Solid Reactive

Core: Nucleus + A.I. Core

Finish: 2000 Abralon – also for 50ft. pattern I finished it with 4000 Abralon

Layout: 5 x 6 x 4

Hear me out...

The Cell line has been RE-BORN with the all-new X-Cell for 2024 and beyond. With the addition of the A.I. technology onto the Nucleus core that brought the new Roto Grip back to the top of performance bowling ball, the new Cell is still simply TRUSTWORTHY, CONSISTENCE, and packs a ton of VERSATILITY built-in to it.

I tested and used it on 2 different patterns. A 44ft house pattern and a 50ft USBC sport pattern at ABC North Lanes and Lounge and what I found was that the X-Cell works on a variety of patterns with just a minor surface change from 2000Ab on the house pattern to 4000Ab on the 50ft USBC pattern. I was able to ball up from my Attention Star and Lighting Blackout on the house pattern to open-up my angles and use the heavy oil in the front of the pattern and allow the X-Cell travel to outside of the target markers to get around any traffic I see on my side of the lane, was able to stay in the X-Cell a lot longer than when I use my Attention S

Finished: 4000 grit Abralon Layout: 5 x 4 x 2
Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down
Fun Fact of the day: The Sentinel Core is the first single density asymmetrical core that the Storm line has used since the Storm Lucid a few years ago.
With me not using a TON of asymmetrical balls in league, I figured to practice on fresh and used house conditions over the course of a few different days to really see if this new Absolute Power would perform. I was very impressed to see how much torque this ball delivered during the shots. The textured R2S Deep solid cover adds a little length midlane and backend of the ball motion over the OG R2S solid coverstock. The OG Absolute was a little “too clean” for me at factory finish, but did gain some love from me at 2000 grit finish. I did not shy away from trying to “hook” the lane or doing deep inside the heavier part of the lane pattern, where normal solids would give up on me, the Absolute Power energized me! Test pattern: 41ft THS and 39ft sport pattern high volume - HPL lane surface with Kegel FLEX machine using fire and ice oil.
Results: I had a little trouble adjusting to this ball, it was really nice rolling until it got to the pins and it hit kinda like a marshmallow. After moving outside the track area and where it was a little less traffic on the test patterns, I started to like the ball a little more, it started to hook a little early for the first couple of shots, once the ball got a little sheen on it the ball just went a little farther off of the pattern and then the ball "awoke" and ever since then that ball has been a primary piece for me on the lanes on the 2nd squard or later games of a tournament. Very trust worthy ball. If I could change one thing, it would be making the pin buffer longer then 2 1/2 maybe a 3 1/2 to 4.

Ball: Storm Crux Pearl
Layout: 50 x 4-1/2 X 50
Test pattern: 41ft THS and 40ft Kegel Flex Pattern
Results: Well, it was too strong for me to play my typical THS place on the lane. I actually moved LEFT to about 20-22 and look at the bottom of the 4 pin to make the ball stay in the pocket. The ball works well on a THS that I bowl on that is the same length, but on Pro Lane by playing 30 to 18 with a good amount of tilt. So,in TWO WORDS: Hercules Strong!!! For the love of the sport, I proceeded to continue with the ball review. I used this ball more of the 40ft Kegel flex pattern and found the ball roll better inside of the track area and where the oil was heavier and longer. This ball will suit those players that bowl on the harder lane surfaces like SPL, Pro-lane and Anvilane on the longer house patterns and sport patterns.

Ball Specs: Circuit Core with Reactor Pearl Reactive coverstock - Reacta Gloss finish with medium flare potential
Layout Specs: 30 x 2 1/2 x 60
Tested on: Pro Lane on a higher volume house pattern with a touch of out of bounds outside from 10 out towards gutter.
My take: Having used 4 prior Electrify series balls, I found this one the closest to the prior Electrify hybrid where the G/O - which means Gold / Orange - inside joke of those remember the round table last year - :-) , and other pearls where real late in reaction, even with the short pin and front lower number, it still traveled down the pattern very smooth and not a large jerky motion off of the pattern and going from roll to hook stage. The most recent version the G/O was more jerky off of the pattern and more angular when entering the pocket. Just my thought that the color combo on this ball is closer to the Hybrid and not as much pearl look to it as the G/O has. A little less overall reaction compared to my long time benchmark ball the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid. Assisted a number of clients which purchasing this ball for the fact that for the price point currently, it out performs any other ball in this price point across all ball lines. Excellent quality for the price - excellent ball to have bowlers set up into from the learn the ball sessions to a league bowler. They will be 100% happy with this ball. Thanks to the Staff and Manager at ABC North Lanes for providing me time on the lanes even during renovations and to my partners SPI, Coolwick and Vise.

Some knowledge for ya- The word "equinox" comes from the Latin words aequus (equal) and nox (night).
And what happens at night in bowling centers — league play happens in most of the bowling centers nationwide. The all new Equinox is formulated for league bowlers, league pattern lengths and oil volume. My Equinox is laid out with a trusty 5 x 4 x 4 which is one of my 2
favorite layouts for league and medium volume, and length patterns. In the center with Pro-Lane I can play a little outside of the normal “lefty” track around and be able to migrate with my feet left and close down angles as the league match goes on, without making large changes into
different balls. I’m using my Rock Star more so in this center because I need for the ball to pick up a little sooner than what the Equinox is doing. Even though I can stay in the Equinox all night long, unlike the THS balls I have used this league 2024-2025 season like the X-Ray, which is still one of my favorite balls for the past several years, and the Lighting Blackout, where both of them I would need to get into “bigger”pieces to finish the league matches out in all 3 centers I
have bowled league matches in. The Equinox is a FULL step-up from the Rock Star and compliments my Attention S2 to make an extremely well diverse 3 ball league bag of those 3 balls

Layout : 70 x 6 x 50
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane and pattern: SPL and 48ft well blended THS

The Storm Infinite Physix was say the least the BIGGEST ball movement I can remember ever seeing. Unlike the any of the prior Physix balls that were released, the ball went a “mile” downlane with a nice blended amount of skid, hook, and when it went into the roll phase, the movement was quick and but not over reactive. When using it in the track area, it was aggressive all the way through the pins, with a little less tilt and more end over end release, the ball still had a TON power getting through the heavier and more concentrated part of the conditioner inside of the track area. I could “HOOK” the WHOLE LANE or I can smooth it out with just a touch of hand position change. The Infinite Physix was still rolling through pins shot after shot, after shot. Most Asys would not be in my bag for league due to my high rev rate and only 15 mph off of my hand with a good bit of tilt, but the Infinite Physix goes with me everywhere I have bowled since its release.

Storm Ion MAX

Core: Element™ Max A.I. Core

Cover stock: NRG™ Solid Reactive

Out of Box condition: 2000-grit Abralon®

Layout: 6 ½ x 4 x 3

Conditions of play: Pro-Lane panels with Terrian oil used with a typical house pattern

Using on fresh conditions, the Ion Max needed to be used inside of my normal track area to be productive, if I got the ball outside of the last tracer board, the ball would still get the pocket with a good entry, but I would leave a 10 pin constantly, being left-handed, I did not expect this. In 30 clean shots using this area of the lane, I left several 10 pins. Once I got back into heavier part of the lane conditioner, the ball slowed down more and you can see the difference down lane, where the roll looks better and once that happened, no “blower” 10 pins where left. Watching my playback videos, I noticed the 6-pin would wrap around the 10-pin high up. Opening my angles also helped the carry percentage went up, projecting the ball to go across the pattern more really helped the overall reaction. The straighter I played, the less I carried the 10-pin. After 60 quality shots and the Ion Max gain lane shine, the ball just kept on getting better and better. The flare on the Ion Max is much wider than my Ion Pro. I can really see the difference in shot shapes with both balls. I can see why several players I have spoken with have BOTH Ion balls in their bags. I thought it would be one or the other, BUT, which such a BIG difference in performance in all aspects of the 3 stages of the ball motion, I now understand why they have both. If you want to take your game to the MAX, Ion MAX will be the perfect BIG piece you are looking for.

Box finish: 4000 grit abralon --- Tested: at box condition and with Storm Rough Edge finishing product
Layout: 5 ½ x 5 x 5 – tested on 44ft house pattern and a 50ft USBC Junior Gold pattern
What I liked and found about the all new Ion Pro is the ball was very STABLE on both patterns I bowled on, may it have been the house pattern or the tougher 50ft USBC Junior Gold pattern. On the house pattern, the Ion Pro reacted similar to my Roto Grip Tour Dynam-X with a little extra “kick” on the back part of the pattern and onto the dry part of the lane. Adding Storm’s Rough Edge finishing product to the coverstock calmed the backend down to where it was not over reacting on the dry part of the lane. It basically promoted the surface to looking like “lane shine” condition without wearing down the peaks and valleys on the TX-16 HYBRID coverstock. Which brings me to the next topic: TX-16 has been a major player in the coverstock game for years, and NOW, for the first time ever Storm made it into a HYBRID coverstock, which is ESSENTIAL for today’s playing conditions and having TX-16 Hybrid on an asymmetrical core is

Results: I have been using this ball just strictly at 2 different centers with very similar house patterns and identical surface and conditioner products. Due to the harder surface and the way I like to play the lanes at these 2 centers. I basically start my feet at 22 and look right at the farther sight board and as the nights go along depending on the play on my side of the lane, I actually move left with my feet and just look a little pass the sight board to allow me to get straighter with the ball. You heard it alot about how this ball is a benchmark ball, and this ball is a benchmark ball, well, for a league bowler, this is the ball I would own.

Findings: The !Q Tour Nano Pearl did not disappoint me at all, having legendary C3 core and having the Nano Pearl cover added to it was a match made in "Strike Heaven". The core allows it to rev up quickly, but the cover allows it to go a little bit longer download but without producing the normal pearl "hockey stick" reaction on the back end of the lane. Very usable on wood lanes, synthetic lanes like SPL and HPL. Used the ball on all three types of lanes and 3 various house patterns and found the !Q Tour Nano Pearl to be the best all around ball for the conditions in all three centers. Benchmark ball for all levels of bowlers.

TECH SPECS - TX-16 Pearl Reactive - F-8 Core - Reacta Gloss
Layout 50 x 5 ½ x 50

Inspired by Jason Belmonte and developed by the best minds in the industry - the talented minds at Storm Bowling R & D staff.

Bringing back the F-8 core from the very popular Storm Fate, The minds at SPI decided to turn to the TX-16 reactive cover and make it into a pearl version of it. The intent is to develop a signature ball that can help any style of bowler gain better scores. The proven TX-16 cover that is in one of the best selling balls of all times - the Phaze II, turning it into a pearl, making it a cleaner version of the renowned cover that has been a HUGE success.

On the lanes I see how it floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee going through the pins. I compared it to the recent release the Roto Grip TNT Infused and the Journey is a tick longer before the transition from skid and hook then the Infused did and little later in the roll phase but not as sharp entering the pocket. The Journey saves a little more POP through the pins then I saw from the Storm Fate. In the league setting, I was able to stay with the Journey longer than I would be with the Fate or Infused, normally in league, the third game is where I have to develop a better look or make a major step down in ball selection, and the Journey does get me through all 3 or 4 games depending on the league format. For me, this is the best Belmo Signature ball that Storm has ever released for the “above average” league bowlers.

The flare potential of the Warp A.I. Core falls under the same rating as the immortal !Q™ Tour. Medium-low differential cores don’t migrate as fast which produces more forgiveness and longer transition zones between skid, hook, and roll. A.I. Core technology is now offered across all weights so the benefit of “Amplified Inertia” can be experienced no matter what weight you use.

Layout: 5 x 4 x 4

My updated specs: Ball speed: average 15.5 mph. - Rev Rate: 425 – Axle tilt: 16 degrees – Axis rotation 70 degrees

The new Storm Lighting Blackout, known now to me as LBO, the second release in the Blackout series that started with the very popular and versatile Virtual Energy Blackout, aka VEBO, the LBO is a next generation of Storm ball released with the A.I outer core.

The first thing I noticed right after drilling the ball, it was not very kind to me on fresh, and after several days of practicing and using it, I came to the realization that this ball is not the “first out of the bag” type of ball. After talking with other staffers, I started to pay even closer attention to the reaction of the ball after games 3-6 during prac

I really like that when the ball changes direction, its stronger then a typical solid and sanded ball, I can see the orange pin quite well and when the block stands up and changes directions, it’s amazing. I can play up the track with less hand and just watch the ball enter the pocket at an unusual stronger angle, that I would normally see when I am “hooking” the lane. A much better cover for me than the original Optimus with this core.

Storm Physix Blackout

Layout: 5 ½ x 3 ½ x 2 ½

Ball specs: Atomic Core with A.I. outer core technology wrapped in NEX pearl coverstock with box finish is 2000 grit.

The holiday season is here and so is the next Signature Series release – the new Physix Blackout. The new Blackout fits in between the 2 prior releases, the Virtual Energy and the Lighting Blackouts, and I am LOVING IT!!! With the Atomic Core, the ball is smoother and “gentler” in the mid lane and does not have the hard reaction in the backend like the VEB or the LB. The PB reads and reacts very smoothly for me, and I can use it on fresh and making small adjustments through the night in league and practice, I can stay with the ball longer than normal “fresh” condition balls I currently use, like the Sublime Focus and my favorite ball for the past year the Hustle X-ray. Where I need to jump out of these two balls in the middle of the matches or in tournament play when the fronts are a little used up, the strength of the Atomic Core and the NEX cover finished at 2000 grit, allows me more room to play with and able to stay with the stronger piece. I still like switching to the LB when they get really fried out, or where I bowl on older HPL where the front and middle panels are so beat up that anything with a more compressed core would start up sooner, the Physix Blackout gets down the lane but still provides stability and reliability. The Physix Blackout is starting to become my 2nd favorite ball this bowling season. This will replace 2 balls in my current league and tournament bags. Cannot wait to drill the second one once it arrives. Check for upcoming Storm Matchmaker Live! Events in your area, or chat with your local pro shop about the Physix Blackout and how it will help elevate your game.

Tested on: 38ft THS, 39ft sport pattern, 41ft THS
Results: The ball's reaction was weaker then I expected at first. The smoothness overhelmed what my eyes were looking for reaction wise, with that being said; Once I understood to play straighter with it, the ball was amazing. Play just right of 10 on all the patterns, I noticed the ball held its position really well off the pattern, it did not over react once it hit the dry areas, and the pin deflection was surprising good and the pins stay lower then I was hoping for. Not a "BIG" hooker, like the typical reaction that everyone wants to see. I see this fitting in 1 step above from my Shouts, and 1 step below my Rocket and HyRoad. Also noticed that on the Brunswick lane panels the reaction was delayed a little more, but had a great angle into the pocket. If you are looking for the nice "rolling and true" bowling ball, the RIDE has it all.

Ball: Storm Rocket
Layout: 50x3x50
Test pattern: 41ft THS, USBC Open S/D pattern
Results: The Rocket was an excellent choice for the house pattern because it really like the wet/dry that our house pattern has. After the pattern gets beaten up, it stills rolls off the pattern very well. The best drive through the pins I have seen in a while. On the S/D pattern, I moved left and played more up the boards and stood 9 to 11 and look at 6-8 on the fresh and as we broke the pattern down on the left side I started to inch right, because if I went left, the ball wiggled and did not come off of the pattern well. This was similar what I saw on the Baton Rouge pattern from a few years ago. I did a little surface maintenance so far and the ball has been better since putting it into A Storm resurfacing machine and bringing it back to factory condition.

Storm Rocket Ship ball review:
Layout: 45 x 4 3/8th x 75
Coverstock: R2S solid reactive
Core: Booster Core
Finish: 3000grit sheen
Flare potential: Mid to High
Lane details: HPL with Flex machine 44ft Kegel pattern with Fire and Ice oil
Results: Comparing to the Storm Fight and Hy-Road solid, this ball read the lane a little earlier then I thought it and recovered ALOT stronger then I was anticipating. The transition in the roll was really quick, it did not labor like I had with the Fight, better overall reaction and was able ro create a great down look with different hand positions. If you watch my you tube video, you will see several different entries into the pocket with the ball. Very versatile ball for a mid level performance ball, 3 0 grit sheen was a great idea for this ball and it was well thought through. I tried it on the Tower of Piza and Statue of Liberty and the ball worked really well. A step down from my Hay Wire pin up, which I was missing in my current sport pattern arsenal.

I found the SKY Rocket to react very close to my Unhinged. Same late motion and same strong angle into the pocket and very “touchy” after the oil has been pushed around. It is longer and stronger then my Optimus, and I like the look of this ball down lane more than my Crux Pearl. The symmetrical core with a .046 diff works well in my ball arsenal. I hope this provided some insight and watch my video on this ball on my facebook page: Roto Grip Rick.
Happy Striking and hope to see a Sky Rocket in your bag soon!

Storm Snap Lock ball review:
Layout: 50 x 4 ¼ x 60
Coverstock: R3S pearl reactive
Core: RAD – X
Finish: 1500 grit polished
Flare potential: High
Lane details: HPL with Flex machine 44ft Kegel pattern with Fire and Ice oil
Results: Very strong ball all the way down the lane, I expected a long and angular finish like my Hy-Wire, and as my YouTube video shows, the transition out of the roll was “established” and very easy to read with the 3 colors the ball has, it was very forgiving and less over/under like I had with my Crux Pearl on the lane beds and oil pattern I tested on. I will be bowling in a league with newer SPL and this will be the first ball out of my bag. The ball is super strong, but not angular when entering the pocket. If you looking for a ball to part the oil and not lose any of it MOJO, and are looking to use it on newer and less gritty lane panels… SNAP LOCK it and get #Lockedin…

Storm Summit
Tech Specs: TX-23 Hybrid Reactive Coverstock with the Centripetal HD - A.I and finished at 3000ab.
Layout and Lane Specs: 75 x 4 3/4 x 35 - video and ball review done on ProLane on a THS with a slight out of boards on the outside of the track area on the left hand side.
My thoughts: Knowing that the TX-23 is an updated version of the TX-16 that is on the very popular and still selling at a record pace, the Phaze II, I learned from my lesson to make sure to have a long front number and a strong pin to pap layout, and that is where we came up with the layout of 75 x 4 3/4 x 35, left it a "box" surface to see how it would fair. Normally, I would have done some surface adjustment down to 2000ab on this type of hybrid cover. Well, officially it now is the Strongest symmetric ball Storm has made to date. Well, the ball flat out hooks and rolls like nothing else I have seen, when watching a few of my videos of the ball reaction midlane and down lane, the strength is unparalleled to anything I rolled and used in the past 17 years I have been with Roto Grip and the SPI family. Crossing the arrows at 17 board, then passing the outside tracer board, around 3rd/4th board then in the last few feet on the lane the Summit makes a HUGE move to the pocket, and keeps the pins low and dancing across the pin deck. I really said aloud several times while practicing, filming and league the word "WOW '' and shook my head because I thought there was NO CHANCE of the ball recovering and it did. Overall I fell in love with the Summit, my league bags now have the Summit, Duo, TNT, Hustle RIP, Hyped Hybrid - my favorite ball since the Hustle INK, and the new RG Spare ball. I don't see anything replacing any of these balls for a while.
Now, rise to the SUMMIT and see your local pro shop to experience the best strongest symmetric ball Storm has to offer.

Ball specs: Centripetal™ HD - A.I. with TX-23 Reactive Pearl coverstock
Finished: Reacta Gloss from factory Layout: 4 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 2 7/8
Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down
A.I. technology is pushing the boundaries of RG like never seen in Storm’s history, and just as you thought Storm has reached the SUMMIT; Storm has reached the PEAK with the all new Storm Summit Peak. The Summit Peak was one of the first 3 balls I drilled since switching back to 15lbs earlier this month. The factory finish of Reacta Gloss went a smidge longer than my eyes like to see during warm ups and practice time. Similar of pearls released with Reacta Gloss, I took it into the pro shop and put it into the Haus machine and used Vise’s 500 grit pads for 1 minute then applied all new Storm Smooth edge and the reaction in the mid lane and backend became a tick earlier like my eyes like to see. Overall, I was able to play over and around the normal track area at ABC North on the left side of the lanes. I was able to stay between the 2 down lane markers and adjust my starting point to provide consistent shots to the pocket. Only left a few corner pins and one 8 pin, which is much better than my normal carry at ABC North with symmetrical hybrid and pearl balls like the Hyped Pearl, TnT Infused, and Sublime, which are my 1st out of the bag stuff. The Peak has definitely earned a spot in my league bag after using it several different days on fresh and heavily used lanes. See your local PSO for the new Summit Peak, or watch for a Storm Matchmaker Live event near you, and visit Storm’s YouTube page for all the recent ball releases and a TON of information about the sport of bowling.

Storm Typhoon
Ball Specs: Atmos A.I. Core with Reactor Reactive Coverstock
Cover Finish: Storm Power Edge
Layout: 6 x 6 x 1

My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 15/16th up 3/16th. Tested on Pro-lane surface on a 44 ft house pattern with lower volume used for the junior and senior leagues, a 44 ft house pattern with larger volume, and patterns that ranged from 33 ft to 39 ft sport patterns.

What the Typhoon is all about:
While looking into the specs of the recent release to revive the HOT LINE from Storm, I came across the new Atmos A.I. core is derived from the Tropical Surge core that has been around for several years and the core shape reminds me of my MOST favorite Roto Grip ball of all time, the DareDevil. When I saw the core picture, that took me back in time to the 2016-2017 season where I had my best season of all time mainly because of the Roto Grip DareDevils. So I took my current specs, compared them to my specs from 2016-2017 time and laid out the Typhoon with a 6 x 6 x 1 layout to give a similar but stronger backend compared to the DareDevil I used 80 percent of my league matches back then. The overall reaction is a little sharper than the DD but the length downlane is close if not identical. The check-mark reaction is still predictable and the direction change is strong, not as strong as the new Roto Grip Ultimate Wrecker but when hitting the heavier oil in the pattern, the ball does lose some of its “punch” but the drive is still there. A step up from the Tropical Surges and the Hustle lines, the Typhoon fits nicely into all three brands of SPI’s line ups. It's not overlapping anything currently in our lines and it is awesome to see the HOT LINE back and full of power!

Storm Virtual Energy Blackout
Cover: ReX Pearl Reactive
Core: Shape-Lock HD
Factory finish: Reacta Gloss - tested with the all new Storm Rough cut and then Smooth cut.
Layout: 70 x 5 x 40
PAP: 3 1/4 and 0 up/down
Ball speeds: 15.0 to 15.4 - off the hand
Rev rate: high 380's
Back by Popular Demand - the Virtual Energy is back and updated for today's condition with the glossy ReX reactive coverstock and the updated Shape-Lock HD core. The Blackout looks very elegant like it is going to a black tie event. One the lanes, I found the reacta gloss finish allowed the ball motion to be a little longer and a little too sharp in the backend for me and the lane surface and pattern I bowl on in my scratch league. I took to the pro shop and changed the cover with the all new rough cut then used the all new smooth cut, and that was the key to me being able to play straighter and project the ball right between the tracer boards down lane and giving me the most carry throughout my games and practice. The Blackout fits between my 900 Global Eternity Pi and my Roto Grip Exotic GEM when it comes to overall length and backend strength and angle into the pocket. I was able to produce more strikes and 9 counts through fresh and then into the transition then the 2 prior balls mentioned. The Virtual Energy Blackout has been a HUGE success also in the Matchmaker events I have a part of. On SPL, ProLane, 1/2 ProLane and old HPL, and all HPL surfaces the V.E. adapts very well to all types of lane surfaces and conditioner types. Get energized and go see your local pro shop for the new Virtual Energy Blackout!
