The Reality was easily the best Asym HP ball made this year. Predictable, versatile and very user friendly. Following, I think the Pearl version could be the best Asym Pearl of the year. You still get that big asym core shape but with the cleaner cover, it responds much better to the friction. The Solid Reality was very forward off of friction. When that shape is too forward, you can switch right to the Altered and get better pin carry because of that cleaner cover. I expect huge things from this ball, especially on the league condition. What’s better than a ball that you can play inside of everyone, and out carry them too?

How do the Burners come out after the AfterBurner?? Anyways, the new Burners are much stronger than the After Burner. It almost feels as strong as say a Hyroad or a MVP. The Burner Pearl clears the fronts very well for me. In fact, I think this may be one of the cleanest bowling balls I have ever thrown. I highly recommend taking the box shine off of this ball so that you can stabilize the breakpoint or else this ball will break free when it sees friction. No one wants to shoot at 4 and 5 counts every game. If you elect to leave this ball shiny, you'll really only see this ball come into play at the end of a tournament block or on older wood lane surfaces. I used this ball on a flat condition when I needed to get in front of the ball return and it cleared the trash in the middle very well. I think the slower speed players will enjoy this ball more because of how well the ball clears the fronts.

The Burner Solid is a great piece for those who are just learning to hook the ball or for more experienced players who are needed a low end ball with a solid cover. Initially, this ball really reminds me of the Original MVP. You get a lot of bang for your buck here. The Burner Solid is earlier and slower than its compliment, the Burner Pearl, but this ball still clears the mid lane very well. So you'll see this ball read the lane a few feet earlier than the Burner Pearl and be smoother off of the dry. The Burner Solid comes shiny but I hit mine with a 1000 grit pad in order to bring the breakpoint closer and honestly to see if this ball would be near my Hustle PBR. The Burner Solid is way stronger off of the spot compared to the Hustle PBR so it forces me deeper on the lane. You can get both Burners for around $200 and along with an abralon pad, you'll have one hell of a two ball combo.

Think "Baby Reality." For me the HB Intensity offers similar strength to the Reality. The only difference is where that strength is on the lane. The Reality is early and forward where the HB Intensity clears the fronts better and retains more energy downlane. The HB comes out of the box really dull. I encourage you to let it lane shine before making a determination if you like it or not. I was surprised at how much better it rolled when I got 10-15 games on the cover. I bowl in a center that hooks quite a bit so I went in the shop and hit it with a 4000 pad on the ball spinner. It really came alive downlane after doing this. I think for players who want strength but may not be able to throw the stronger balls or afford them, the HB Intensity is a much better option!

I was able to move into 4th arrow and really open up my angles. I positioned myself trying to throw the ball to the right of the three pin where the range finders would be. When I got it going to the middle of the three pin, it went light swisher; a pinch right of that went flush. I’m not very technical but the entry angle wasn’t very steep because the ball was going forward off the end of the pattern. That entry angle allowed me to carry most of the off hits. Strong balls like this also have downfalls. One downfall that I noticed is that when I got the ball to the right of the three pin too early, unlike our UFO’s and Gravity Evolves, the Reality didn’t lose enough energy to stop. Instead, it dead checked off of the dry and went through the nose. I think this ball is similar to Storm’s Proton Physix. For most players, you’ll use this ball on heavier conditions. I anticipate this ball to be really good on longer patterns when I need to keep my angles tight and towards the 1-3. The reality is one of the stronger balls in SPI’s lineup. If you’re bowling on low volume patterns or are a rev dominant player, you won’t throw this ball all the time because of its strength. For players who are speed dominant or those who bowl on heavier volume house conditions, the Reality will be good to start tournaments or league with.

When you think of Wolverine, think 900 Global Hyroad Pearl. 900 Global doesn’t release as many balls as our other brands because it has target shapes that it aims to achieve. The Zen is super smooth for me and Global needed that mid range angular symmetrical ball and you got it: Wolverine. Wolverine is similar in strength to a Hyroad Pearl for me but tends to be slightly weaker overall. You’ll find the Wolverine coming into play as the lanes start to force you deeper into the pattern and there is a defined spot to throw it to downlane. For a good comparison of the 900G line in order of strongest to weakest it goes Zen, Wolverine, Burner Pearl.

The Zen Master is 900 Global's Axiom/Idol shape. For me the Master fits into that stronger symmetrical solid slot. Distinguishing the Zen Master from the Axiom/Idol is fairly simple. Here is the order from strongest to weakest. Axiom, Idol, Zen Master, Phaze II. Relatively speaking, the Zen is closest to the idol in overall strength, but it has just a tad more shape down the lane. I have enjoyed success with the Zen master on House conditions and flat reverse blocks. It's controllable enough to relax my hand and tumble it, but it doesn't sacrifice downlane motion when I get my hand around it like the Axiom does.

This ball is a great compliment to the Forest Green Quantum. Its much cleaner than the Green Quantum but still produces a predictable shape that reminds everyone of the old Quantum's. It hits HARD too. That thicker shell produces 13% more and it shows. Don't Forget you get a FREE 3 ball roller when you buy ANY Quantum!!!

Wow. This ball is unbelievable. Great shelf appeal and even better rolling piece for the middle of my bag. This ball fits perfectly between my Fanatic and Ridiculous pearl. Although limited, every tournament player should have this ball for the later blocks. Gives a controllable continuous motion on the back end!

This is the greatest compliment to the Diva line yet. Wow, this ball has great continuation and fits the Diva line perfectly. If your XoXo is a tad bit too rolly, you can grab this out of the bag and it will hook off the spot perfectly. It looks great which means it has great shelf appeal. DV8 scored with this one!!

I have two Mythics drilled. One pin up and the other pin down. I am surprised by how versatile this ball is. I bowl on surfaces that hook quite a bit. Usually, I start with the pin down Mythic. The cleaner cover gets through that front, but the layout and the big core controls the down lane motion. When the fronts really go, I just change to the pin up and open my angles up. I think it tells a lot about a ball when you can have one that locks up the pocket and one that can boom down lane. Typically bowling balls only allow you to do one or the other, not both. Overall, this ball is stronger than the Iron Forge, but not quite as strong as a Pride/Ghost.

This is my first year throwing the Motiv products. I am so impressed with the shapes I see, especially out of the Trident Odyssey. When you need that big, slow, heavy rolling ball, the Trident Odyssey is the answer. Cliffed house conditions require balls that clend the wet Dry. The Trident Odyssey blends the wet dry really well. You can just move into that puddle and rip the grips out of it. Likewise, when you have a really heavy volume pattern, the cover is strong enough in the front to keep the pocket in play. Surprisingly, I had success with this ball on shorter/flatter Chameleon at the PBA Players Championship because the heavy roll allowed me to use my speed to control the pocket. All around, this is a great piece for a variety of patterns because of its predictability off of the breakpoint. Predictability wins tournaments.

The All-Out Show off is a wonderful piece of equipment. When the lanes begin to brake down and the Original Show Off begins to hook to soon, this ball becomes a no-brainer.

Its the perfect compliment to the Original. The All Out goes 2-3 feet longer down the lane due to the cleaner cover stock and stores tons of energy which allows it to hit the pins like a mac-truck.

I couldn't have been more excited when Roto announced this release. The core and covers in this line are extremely versatile. Ive thrown my All-Out shiny and Dull. Both ways the ball rolls incredibly well allowing me to move left and open my angles. Stop by your local pro-shop and pick up one today!!

Wow is all I can say about this bowling ball. I drilled it slightly stronger than my Dare Devil Trick to try to minimize the gab between the two. It was the best decision Ive ever made. The Dare Devil Danger is the perfect Compliment to the DDT.

The Danger is cleaner than the Trick but has more midlane roll than the Original Dare Devil. This ball can be used on the THS or on flatter sports conditions.

The colors are great and this ball just flat out runs the pins over. This is something I think the Roto Grip line needed. Its a wonderful piece to be the first ball out of your bag! Stop by your local pro shop and pick up one today!!

The New Roto Grip Halo may be one of the overall strongest balls I’ve personally ever thrown. Along with the strong motion, the first thing I noticed were the colors! This is one good looking bowling ball! This ball really digs in the midlane giving a consistent strong motion overall. This ball will be perfect on the super heavy volume patterns and the longer patterns. I can see myself using this ball when I need to get in the puddle and keep my angles tight. I will also be able to use this ball on the fresh conditions along with heavily walled house patterns. On these walled house patterns you can keep you eyes in the puddle and not have to worry about your ball not hooking.
** I don’t recommend this ball for rev dominant players or slow ball speed players.**

I personally shined my Halo so I could use it longer. If you don't listen to my recommendation and you are rev dominant or a slower ball speed player.. I would suggest trying to polish yours as well if you are not seeing the reaction you want out of it. When I say this ball digs... I mean it. IT DIGS EARLY. Don't get that confused with slowing down, down lane. This puppy still has enough energy through the pins

The new Halo Pearl has the same Centrum Core that was featured in the Original Halo. The coverstock on the Halo Pearl is the same as the Idol Pearl.
When first throwing this ball I was amazed at how much energy it ball stores. Its very clean and VERY sharp downlane. I think this will definitley be a ball that I will throw on the dryer lane conditions. The Halo Pearl will also be good on the Typical House Shots. Once your Halo or Idol (Solid) start to burn up, a simple switch to the Halo Pearl will get those weak corners out for sure.
I used a light 2000 abralon pad to knock the shine off of the ball before throwing it and it still provides easy length with a sharp response off of the friction. Manipulating the cover stock surface is one of the biggest tips I give people. Dont be scared to knock the factory finish off and experiment. The best players now their equitpment inside and out. The Halo Pearl will fit EVERYONES game. Im excited for customers to get this ball in their hands.
In this comparison the Halo Solid was about 4-2 stronger overall. I noticed the Halo Solid read the midlane much sooner and was slower off the friction.

The new Halo Vision has instantly become one of my favorites. I was a HUGE fan of the Defiant Soul, so when I saw the color scheme and heard that it would roll similar to the DS, I was instantly eager to drill one. Not only did I end up drilling one, I drilled TWO. You will not be disappointed. For me the Vision is slower downlane than the original Halo. Both the Pin up and down versions offer slow predictable motion off the breakpoint while offering exceptional pin carry. I see myself throwing these Visions on the fresh when the lanes are the oiliest. For me, the original Halo reads the mid lane much quicker and is sharper off the spot— I think it goes without saying that the Halo Pearl will also be sharper off the spot than the Halo Vision. In terms of overall ball motion I think the OG Halo offers the most motion, running second is the Halo Vision and following that the Halo pearl is the sharpest downlane. In essence, the Halo Vision is the smoothest Halo yet. Heavy handed players who are eager to drill this ball should drill it fairly weak because its A LOT of ball. Players with lower higher balls speeds, and lower rev rates will absolutely kill the pins with the Halo Vision!

Man does this ball look good on a shelf AND going down the lane. Before the Hustle INK, the previous hustles were either too early and quit downlane or too sharp and left designs on the pin deck. Schlem fixed this with the Hustle 3TP. This ball for me is the sharpest downlane. I think one thing that stands out though is that its how good this ball looks going down the lane. The purple colors look like an orb going down the lane. For me this ball is easily 3-4 boards more than the Hustle AU because of the downlane response to friction. I think this ball will be the go too on low volume patterns and the patterns with volume less than 18-19 mils. Im also looking forward to throwing this ball on the old beat up wood surfaces that I sometimes see in the south. In sum, The Hustle AU is 3-4 boards weaker than the Hustle 3TP. The 3TP is a weaker version of the Winner Pearl for me!

The Hustle AU comes in the latest continuation of the HP2 line. Of all the Pearl Hustles I have thrown, this one is the most predictable. Typically when I throw lower end bowling balls such as hustles or Match Ups, they tend to be much too angular for my taste. Also, they are just very unpredictable; by this I mean that they snap too hard off the dry while not hooking enough in the puddle. What makes the new Hustle AU so special is that its smooth. I think this ball will be perfect for heavy handed players who are wanting to play further to the right. You will not see the hockey stick motion like you would with some of the other lower end balls. Where I bowl the surface has lots of friction. I like to use this ball in league not only because its gold, but because it allows me to play further right with a soft hand. I don’t have to worry about it breaking loose downlane to leave a nasty design. I anticipate using this ball on wooden surfaces and other places with lots of surface friction. I can also see myself using this ball on low volume conditions. Overall, this ball is a weaker version of a winner solid. Think “4-3 left”. I can easily see myself starting off with a winner solid on a low volume pattern and easily transitioning into the Hustle AU.

The Hustle Camo is such a cool looking ball, that is if you can even see it (get it..?) Anyways, the Camo features the same core and cover as the PBR but the Camo comes out of the box shiny where the PBR is sanded. Naturally the Camo is cleaner and retains more energy because of the surface difference. But in my opinion the Camo is the Hustle Ink 2.0. So if your Ink is starting to build up its number of games, I think the Camo would be a good replacement option. As it relates to other Hustles, the Camo is stronger off of the spot than the PBR but isn't quite as sharp as the Wine. Overall, it's good piece and the majority of players will find it very useful!

The Hustle HSB is by far my favorite of the three new Hustles. For me this ball based on the way I drilled it (30 x 5 x 80) revs up in the front part of the lane and offers a nice motion downlane. Typically I use the layout above on the smaller cores because it helps get them started so that they are not stupid angular downlane. Compared to the other Hustles released, the Hustle HSB is the overall strongest. It forces me the most left and has the most overall motion. This ball compared to others in the Roto Grip line: Its similar in overall motion to a wrecker, just on the weaker side. I think players who throw it slow are going to like this piece on the house patterns because they can knock the box shine off of it and it will allow them to play deeper in the puddle, where as the other two Hustles force you further right. I also think this ball will be handy for the tournament players because it provides consistent motion and will be perfect as were the others for your higher friction surfaces and lower volume pat

The Hustles are Roto Grips Version of entry level bowling balls. For $89 you get WAY MORE than an entry level bowling ball. These bowling balls could easily be sold in the $120 price point. The Hustle HYB is a stronger cover than the Hustle Ink which helps it blend the wet dry better than the Hustle Ink. I found that going straight with this ball was incredibly easy as it gives you an even overall shape and a good motion through the pins.

This ball is perfect for shorter patterns, walled house patterns and low volume patterns. You can easily play straight without giving any pin carry away. The cover heavy balls are my favorite. I bowled 298-299 right out of the box with this bad boy!! Get yours Today!!!!!

It seems to have teeth like an HP2 ball yet it still has that signature down lane reaction that is characteristic of the Hustles. It wanted to pick up in the midlane and continue hard through the pins which resulted in pretty good pin carry minus a 7-10. To me, it feels like a remade Winner Solid. It is not as strong as a Phase II, WildStreak or Idol. But it is slightly weaker than the MVPs. It offers that same midlane traction but didn’t become lazy on the backend. I can see myself actually using this ball on some heavier volume patterns. For instance, if you bowl a tournament on a heavy volume pattern, but the lane surface hooks quite a bit, this ball will be good for that. I think it will take surface well for the beginning of the block when the pattern is flat and the back ends are crisp. It won’t force your angles in like some of the bigger cored balls. Im really excited to throw this piece more. It goes without saying that this piece will be spectacular for the great walls of china. It is not too snappy but doesn’t burn up when fed to the dry. Finally, I think from a Pro-Shop Operator perspective, this ball will be user friendly and driller friendly. I can see myself having a few of these drilled different ways to combat any condition. For Example, I could drill one pin up as in the video, one pin down and a short pin in order to create three different shapes. I look forward to consumers getting their hands on this piece because it will not disappoint.

Out of the box, I noticed one thing, this Hustle is DIFFERENT. There are some pearl balls that are slightly smoother on the back end and they allow you to play right of the solid balls. Likewise, there are some balls that boomerrang so much downlane, they force you left of the solid balls in order to try to stabilize the reaction. The Hustle RAP is in the latter category. While filming the video, I missed the move several times because I couldn’t comprehend how strong the RAP is downlane. This ball will be good for the last game of league when the track is burnt or at the end of a long tournament block. You can utilize this piece when there is a hook spot and all you want to do is throw your ball to that spot and watch the pins fly. Like the PBR, the Hustle RAP feels stronger than the Hustles in the past. It could easily fit into the HP2 line. In terms of specific players that would like this ball, I think the players with the heavy hand and heavy end over end roll will love this piece. For those players, the RAP is angular enough that it won’t miss the spot downlane like some pearls can do and it will continue through the pins hard. This ball will boomerang for the heavy handed players and it goes without saying that it will boomerang for players like me who twirl it more!

The Hustle Wine is probably the best pearl Hustle I have thrown. Past Hustles have gone to the wasteside because they were too clean and too angular. The Wine bridges the gap nicely between the solid Hustles and the more angular Hustles. While the Wine is the same as the RAP, to me it's smoother and more continuous. The Rap really missed the spot most of the time whereas with the Wine, it hugs the midlane better and really goes through the pins well. I bowl on high friction surfaces and I have found a new favorite ball in the Wine. Every time I go to league, the Wine is the first ball out of my bag. I have been successful at both curving the entire lane, and firming my speed up and going up the track. It's a great piece.

This thang is QUICK! While the Hyped Pearl is slower, the Hyped Hybrid is so quick downlane that I had to sand it hard to slow it down. I have high axis rotation so I am not a huge fan of low end balls because of how violently they change direction. I will say that I have been extremely surprised with this ball. The ball doesn't lane shine very quickly and it's actually very useable on the house puddle. With the extra surface, I can slow wheel the lane from the nosebleed section. As the spot dries up, the weaker cover allows the ball to have good shape towards the end of league. For players that like to play further right, the box finish on this ball will allow you to play there because of how clean it is with the shine. Because of the downlane shape, the Hyped Hybrid may force you deeper on the lane versus its co-partner the Hyped Pearl.

Think Hectic 2.0. You'll find that the Hyped Pearl is much slower than its co-release, the Hyped Hybrid. For me, the Hyped Pearl allows me to stand in the dirt, relax my hand and just watch the ball walk to the pocket. It doesn't jump off the spot like other low end pearl balls which is nice because they tend to leave creative designs down the lane. This ball will be great for higher rev players who want to play closer to the friction and lower rev players who need something for when the lanes transition game 3. I drilled mine pin down and it rolls so good. Stronger than the hustles, weaker than an IQ Tour. In fact, I take two balls to league, the Hyped Pearl and a spareball. That is how much confidence I have in the useability of this ball.

The New Hyper Cell is as close to the Cell Pearl and I can remember. This ball easily clears the front part of the lane allowing you to throw it to the right and watch it blow the pins apart.

I tried a new layout on this ball going pin down which is typically bad on asymmetric bowling balls for me. This ball however still clears the fronts and picks up downline. Im 100% impressed with this bowling ball. Its a must have in your bag!

At first I was hesitant to drill this ball up. i had previously had a Haywire that I didn't exactly like, and I had a Show Off that I absolutely loved. I feared that this ball would do either of these things, one, be exactly like the Haywire and I wouldn't like it. Or two, be too close to the Show off and I would never throw it.

What happened next was completely unexpected. This ball was cleaner through the front than both balls mentioned above and retained more energy than both. Now this ball isn't as clean as day a Dare Devil Danger, but it is cleaner than the Show Off. I personally love the look and the roll of this ball. The nano cover is such a good coverstock base, and this ball doesn't disappoint. It really reminds me of an IQ Nano motion, but maybe 2-3 boards stronger overall.

I would recommend this ball for speed dominant players and players with low rev rates who are looking for a controllable motion for the heavier volumes and flatter patterns. If you're a rev dominant player this ball will probably be too early for you.

Idol Helios is the Og Idol on steroids. If you loved the Magenta Idol like I did then you’ll love this one too. For me, the Helios is slightly stronger overall and has more shape down lane. It fits the same slot as the OG Idol and will be just as successful. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have both Idols in the bag. Since the Helios has more shape, you can let it lane shine some and use it when the Magenta Idol is just a bit flat through the pins.

The Idol Pearl is a wonderful compliment to the Idol. I found that sometimes the Idol was too smooth a ball reaction. When the Idol begins to labor or become too smooth off the end of the pattern. The Idol Pearl will allow you to move your feet a few boards left and get more continuation through the pins. In the past, pearl balls that continue a series have been too sharp off the spot. Not this one. The Idol Pearl has more downlane motion than the Idol, but it’s very forward off the spot. In my opinion, the Idol Pearl allows me to control the pocket better than other pearls because of its forwardness off the spot. This ball is a must have in the bag because it’s a great benchmark pearl ball!

The Idol line has been one of my all time favorites. The Pink Idol provided consistent, early, heavy rolling ball motion that I love to see on the harder oilier lane conditions. The Idol Pearl was also a favorite of mine because its one of the smoother pearl balls Storm/Roto has released. It was a nice transition between the two balls that allowed for maximum scoring when the conditions allowed. Upon the release of the Idol Pro, I was a bit hesitant because we already have a solid Idol and the recent release of the Pro-Motion. I honestly thought it would just be a ball that would fade into the background. Boy do I stand corrected. IF you can imagine the strength of an Idol(Pink) with the angularity of an Idol Pearl— then BAM you have the Idol Pro. This ball has every bit of the strength of the original idol with the pop off the end that the Idol Pearl provides. In my opinion this ball will work well for the rev challenged players as well as the players with higher ball speeds. In sum, this ball is a combination of the Idol (PINK) and the Idol Pearl. Its a few boards weaker than the Pro-Motion. I think this ball will be a great choice on the harder conditions especailly when the Idol is too early but its not time for the Idol Pearl. The Idol Pro is also an excellent choice on the overwalled house conditions because it will blend the wet dry nicely.

In what is probably the most anticipated ball in some time, Roto Grip is releasing the Idol Synergy. The Idol Synergy is a combination of the original Idol and the Idol Pearl. I was surprised when throwing this ball. For me, it was in between the Idol and Idol pearl in terms of reading the midlane, but the Synergy had more shape downlane. TO sum, you'll get a ball that reads the midlane harder than the Idol Pearl and also shapes harder downlane. The reaction is closer to an Idol Pearl than it is to the original Idol. I think the cover is versatile too. You could use surface to bring the breakpoint closer to you if you find that the Synergy is too clean. In all, everyone will like this ball and likewise, I expect the Idol Synergy to be as popular as its predecessors.

If the wrecker was a favorite of yours, this ball is the Wrecker 2.0. The MVP is a continuation of the HP2 line which has one of my all time favorites, the Winner Solid. I’ve seen other ball reviews on this that characterize this ball as “slow and unresponsive” or “rolls and is heavy in the midlane”. For me, as a spinner, that could not be further from the truth. In my experience with this ball, it is super sharp downlane just as the wrecker was. The MVP literally couldn’t be thrown out of the window. At my bowling center, the gutters are on fire and there is some oil in the middle part of the lane. I had to loop the entire lane to get this ball to layoff, again, Wrecker on steroids. I encourage everyone who considers this ball to watch multiple reviews. If you’re a spinner, expect super snappy and if you’re a heavy handed roller, expect slow and rolly. None the less I think this ball most definitely has a place in the bag. I can see myself using this ball at the end of the blocks where a spot has developed downlane enough to where I can just throw it there. I will have no doubt the MVP will get back.

I've loved quite a few Roto balls in the HP2 line. Winners are still my go to's on lighter volume patterns and I remember loving the Wreck series back in the day. The MVPs for me have been very quick off the spot and I say that in regards to the MVP and the MVP Pearl. Where others find them slow and forward, I see them just the opposite. I was anticipating a release that had the same core but a stronger cover and that's what we have with the MVP Attitude. The stronger cover allows it to be that more forward shape I was looking for. This ball will me very good on the medium volume patterns and the shorter patterns where you need stronger covers to blend the pattern out. I am looking forward to throwing this ball!

The first MVP was very quick for me. I needed lots of friction to the right and it seemed as if it was scared of the puddle on house conditions. It is a good ball, it just didn’t match up with my game. With this in mind, I drilled the MVP Pearl stronger to try to control that downlane reaction. The results were exactly as I wanted, I now have a weaker pearl symmetrical that doesn’t boomerang off the end of the pattern. Boomerang shapes are unstable and uncontrollable. With the stronger drilling, the MVP Pearl had good length but was much smoother off the downlane friction. This is my new go to ball for the dry house conditions and the burn in tournament competition. For the players who are speed challenged or rev dominant, I think this ball will play to your benefit the most. It will give you easy length with great pin carry. Players who are rev challenged or speed dominant, if you drill this ball on the stronger side, it will offer similar shape to an Idol Pearl.

Out of the box, the Nuclear Cell looks awesome. This ball has great shelf appeal. I have never drilled a cell that I didn’t like. I had the Cell Pearl, Hyper Cell, and Hyper Cell Fused; I liked them all. So naturally, I was excited about another cell. The Nuclear Cell is wrapped in the eTrax-P20 coverstock. Out of the box, you’ll notice how easy this ball floats through the front part of the lane. I think you get what’s advertised— this ball will be clean through the fronts and snap hard. I’m not talking about a boomerang like a IQ Emerald or a Hyroad pearl, but a boomerang by Asymmetrical standards. Throughout the video, I only moved 4-5 boards and kept my eyes in about the same area. The Nuclear allowed me to make my angles steeper through the front and it retained a ton of energy on the back end. Steeper angles combined with the balls natural abilities gave me about an arrows worth of room on the lane. Isn’t that was every bowler is looking for? As I’ve stated before, I bowl in high friction centers so most of the time Asymmetrical bowling balls are no good for me. But even on this dry house shot, the Nuclear Cell cleared the front with ease and had excellent pin carry. Some of the shots you’ll see did not strike because they had poor execution. Other than that I am very impressed and I am excited for other players to get their hands on this ball. I try to be as honest as possible when recommending bowling balls to people. Not every bowling ball will be good for every player. I think the Nuclear Cell will be a home run! I anticipate this ball will be the go-to on House Patterns and other easier lane conditions for a variety of players because of how easy it clears the fronts. It will also roll well on some medium to high volume patterns on high friction surfaces.

The X-1 is the newest addition to the HP4 line. It features the MicroTrax Hybrid coverstock. This ball doesn't do anything flashy; it simply gets the job done. In the past, Roto Grip has been known to make some of the best Asymmetrical balls in the industry. The X-1 proudly carries that torch. I found the X-1 to be similar in overall strength compared to the UFO and the X-1 is about a zone stronger than the Nuclear Cell. The UFO and X-1 differ because they read the lane at different points. The UFO will be slightly earlier because of the Solid MicroTrax cover whereas the X-1 will be slightly cleaner and retain more shape downlane because it has the Hybrid Cover. In all, you'll be able to throw the X-1 on heavy conditions when you need slightly more length than the UFO is giving you.

The RST X2 is by far the cleanest asym pearl I have ever thrown. As such, the X2 really bridges the gap nicely between our stronger pearl symmetrical balls and our stronger slower asym pearl balls. For instance, if you have a Halo Pearl or a Parallax Effect that just wont corner hard enough, but your Idol Pearl or Axiom Pearl isn't quite strong enough, the X2 will be perfect. I personally have my X2 at box finish because it rolls well for me, but I have sanded it significantly on higher friction surfaces where we were bowling on longer patterns. The combination of the clean cover and surface allowed me to clear the front on the higher friction surface, but didn't miss the midlane because of the surface of the cover. It's an all around versatile piece that all players should have in their bag.

Inside of the new Rubicon, you’ll find a brand new core, the Rondure. The design intent with this core, is to allow players to have the same motion without a balance hole, as they would have had, with a balance hole. It reminds me of a Code X that doesn’t get lazy. As a brand, I think we were missing this shape. We needed that weaker asymmetrical solid. Ultimately, our strongest balls are sometimes too strong and other times our solid symmetrical pieces are not quite strong enough. In between those shapes, you will find the Rubicon. It gave me that perfect feel between the the UFO and Idol but wasn’t quite as clean as the Nuclear Cell. You literally get what you pay for here. No tricks, no gimmicks, straight up performance. For the video, the Rubicon blended the lane nicely for me. I can most definitely see myself using this on conditions that have broken down some, but not to the point where I need that symmetrical shape yet. I found success with the Code X when I was met with these conditions and I anticipate that I will find more success with the Rubicon! In terms of players who differ from my style, I think this ball will be valuable for players who don’t quite have the speed for the high performance balls. Essentially, this ball could become the ball at the top of the bag for low speed players. Rev dominant players see this ball the same way. If you really hit it hard, the strong asymmetrical balls can be too strong. The Rubicon will give you incredible performance at a lower price point. High speed players will find this ball useful on medium to heavy lane conditions. It won’t slow down like a true high performance ball, but it does give you good mid lane traction.

The Rubicon’s design intent is to give you an Idol like shape. The UC2 clears the front more than its solid counterpart just like the Idol Pearl did compared to the Idol solid. For me, the UC2 is slightly smoother than my Idol Pearl. With a small intermediate diff, the UC2 is an asymmetrical piece and that’s probably accounts for the small difference. I took the UC2 to the Players Championship with me and I couldn’t put it down in the later games. On the flatter patterns, my angles had to be super steep. The UC2 cleared the friction I saw in the front part of the lane and gave me good motion off of the dry to the right down lane. Once they broke down on Shark, I was able to shim it up the hill from left of 4th arrow. I had other symmetrical pearls and they just didn’t see the lane correctly for me. They were quick off of the friction in the front part of the lane where the UC2 blended them slightly more because of its asymmetry. The versatility of this ball can’t be overstated. I think this ball, like the Idol Pearl that preceded it, will be a homer for a majority of bowlers no matter the style. Expect this ball to be stronger than our Idols and WildStreaks but weaker in the front part of the lane compared to the original Rubicon and Nuclear Cell.

IT'S ABOUT TIME. To be honest, I have been so frustrated by getting beat by the PH every weekend. Don't get me wrong, our Pitch Blacks are good but we were just missing a shape like the PH. We've got the early tumble if you want and the quick downlane if you need, now. I'm competitive. I bowl regionals. This ball will be out of the bag, on the rack on any pattern with a 3 as the first number of length. This ball booms off friction, sets in the oil and keeps its surface longer than any urethane ball SPI has made thus far. Overall, the UC3 bridges the gap between Pitch Blacks and Hustle PRBs. It's a true bridge between reactive and urethane that will give you control on the fresh and shape when it shines up. I can't wait for you to get your hands on this monster!!!

The UFO is the newest ball coming from Roto Grip. It features a brand new core with a MicroTrax S20 cover. Out of the box the UFO is EARLY and STRONG. This will no doubt be the strongest ball in your bag. That doesn’t necessarily mean its only use will be on heavy oil. Soupy house conditions will favor this ball because it has the potential to blend the wet dry. When you pull it just a little, it retains enough shape to get the weak 7 or 10 out and when you leak it to the outside of your target, it doesn’t boomerang off of the friction. I anticipate this will be a great ball for the first game of league. When the lanes begin to transition, you can change to the Halo or Idol which will give you more shape downlane. Rev dominant players and low speed players should be cautious when drilling this piece. It is VERY strong. I cannot say that enough. For the tournament players, this ball will be great on heavy volume patterns and on shorter patterns. Saying that the UFO can be used on both long and short seems contradictory, but it is not. The UFO is strong enough that it will be good on the heavy volume patterns because it will pick up in the oil. At the same time, on short patterns bowling balls that are strong and slow blend out the extreme dry downlane. The UFO will burn up enough on short patterns and will allow you to control the pocket. As compared to other Storm and Roto balls, the UFO is the strongest piece we make. In my opinion It is earlier and slower than a Crux Prime. It is also earlier and slower than a Gravity Evolve. The UFO is similar in shape to an Idol but is about a zone stronger.

I really feel like Storm is making great high end equipment right now. In years past I threw older stuff such as Locks and Halos. Here recently though, out high end stuff has made me retire those because the new stuff is so dang good. The UFO Alert is part of the GOOD new stuff. The Original UFO was slow and early. It was good on heavy volume stuff and maybe a huge great wall. The new Alert clears the fronts much better and absolutely booms down lane. I drilled this ball with a RICO layout minus the hole and was shocked to see how sideways I could make this ball be. Honestly, you could tell me this ball was a pearl and I'd believe you. For reference, this ball will be stronger and more have more mid lane traction than the RST X2, so there really isn't much overlap. If you like the strength of your UFO but need a cleaner ball for when the UFO is too strong, the UFO Alert is for you!

My first impression out of the box was the colors. It is dark purple, grey and black and they look great. The Wild Streak is the first ball in some time that uses a weight block, not a core. The difference is a weight block is surrounded by coverstock only. There is no inner core. This increases the Coefficient of Restitution which increases pin carry. When throwing the Wild Streak I couldn’t help but notice how similar it is to a Storm Phaze II. There is a slight difference, the Wild Streak is more forward off the end of the pattern whereas the Phase II has more pop downlane. I think this piece will be good for soupy house conditions and medium sport conditions. Players will enjoy using this ball because of how controlled it is. For speed dominant players or rev challenged players, this ball will be a great benchmark piece— not too strong but not as weak as a Winner Solid. For guys who are rev dominant or throw it slower, you can use this on medium to heavy oil conditions— it will provide great midlane read with a controlled downlane reaction.

The winner is roto grips newest ball in roto grips hp2 line. The idea for this ball came from trying to bridge the gap between the hustles and the dare devils. The winner offers me a shape that I absolutely love. It clears the fronts well but still stands up hard on the back end. I think this will be perfect for when the lanes have some carry down. Most balls clear the front but will miss the spot due to the amount of oil downlane. The winner will allow you to clear the front and have motion downlane!!! I think ball will work great for players with slower ball speed because of how easily it clears the fronts. Higher rev players will like it if they're bowling on a drier lane condition as well!

I've had this ball for a few weeks now and thrown it on multiple pattens/surfaces. WOW is all I can say. This ball absolutely stuns me every time. When I need it to see the fronts more all I have to do is take the surface down with a 2000 pad. As it lane shines it allows me to move left and circle the lane! What more could you ask of this ball!!!

The Winner Solid is the latest continuation of our HP2 line. The Winner Pearl is very responsive down lane when the lane starts to dry up. The Solid though, is in a class of its own. The Solid HP2 ball is the biggest bang for your buck to date. It reads the midlane earlier than the Winner Pearl and can be used on the heavier volume patterns. The Winner Solid and the Winner Pearl offer similar strength; the difference though is where they read the lane. The Winner Solid is earlier and smoother creating a nice round ball motion. The Pearl skids more and has a sharp motion off the friction making a hockey stick motion. I think the Winners offer a wonderful 1-2 punch for when the heavier volume patterns are in transition from the middle of the block to the end.

I was a huge fan of the original Physic. Whenever I bowl on something relatively flat and with high volume, the Physix is the go to ball. However, you can't throw the same ball forever. The Physix begins to burn up so what do you go to-- THE ASTRO PHYSIX. This ball for me is a better Code Black. So think weaker asymmetric with good continuation. I drilled my Astro exactly like my Code Black and wow is this ball good. I bowled two 800s with this ball in the first few weeks of having it. Typically asymmetrical balls tend to stop going through the pins when the fronts go. Not this ball, I am able to use this ball all three games and it does not quit! I touched the cover with some surface and it was super smooth. I think this is one of the most versatile covers Storm has come up with, thats why they continue to use it. Its a PROVEN Physix core with a PROVEN R2S cover, is there anymore to know?? Think “Earlier than the !Q Emerald and more pop than a Physix.

The new Axiom brings with it the Orbital Core which is designed to rev up in the mid lane and blend out the end of the pattern. If that wasn’t smooth enough, Storm wrapped that Orbital core with the all new NeX overstock. NeX stands for Nano Extreme. NeX is Storms earliest reading cover to date. As I throw some shots here you’ll notice that Storm wasn’t lying. The Axiom is the definition of hook in the box. It is early and really doesn’t shape hard down lane at all. While filming, like with previous strong covered bowling balls, I found that playing to the right didn’t allow the ball to retain enough energy to go through the pins. As the videos progress, you’ll see me get left and try to spin it through the fronts. Trying to spin it through the fronts was the only was I was able to successfully get my ball to strike. It is so early that it just didn’t save up enough energy to retain any energy through the pins. A few shots I leaked to the right and instead of boomeranging off the dry like normal, the axis quickly stabilized and straightened out causing me to flat 10 or leave a light split. What you’ll get from this ball is an early heavy rolling shape and a stable axis down lane. Even trying to spin it through the fronts, you’ll notice how easily it stabilizes. My most sincere warning are to those who are low speed and/or have high rev rates. If you’re looking for an all around user friendly ball, the Axiom is not the one. This ball was designed for one specific purpose: HEAVY OIL. The Axiom will be used on the heaviest of oil patterns because it needs a lot of oil in the heads to help it store energy through the pins. I can’t stress it enough, you need a lot of volume for this piece.

Holy freaking cow. This ball is GOOD. I was skeptical because the Axiom wasn't my favorite out of the box. It took some time and effort for me to understand the characteristics of the Axiom. The Axiom Pearl is a MONSTER. Immediately out of the box this ball was pretty clean and provided consistent motion off of the breakpoint. Because the cover base is NeX, you won't see a violent downlane motion. Instead, you'll find a clear and more forward motion than most of our pearls. The Axiom Pearl is really a home run. I was able to use it a few weeks back to shoot my very first PBA 300! It gave me easy length and controllable downlane motion on the long pattern we were bowling on.

The Code X is the next continuation in the "Code" series. I believe people have been waiting for that wonderful solid asym thats a step down from the sure lock! This ball is 100% it.

The solid cover stock allows the ball to pick up in the mids but doesn't let it quit downline which is the beauty of a weaker Asym bowling ball. This ball is perfect for clipped house patterns and slightly heavier volume sports conditions.

I had a wonderful time doing the review of this bowling ball. It hits like a truck, smells WONDERFUL and rolls great!!

The Crux Prime is the latest release in the Premier line. The Prime is wrapped in a brand new storm technology, the SPEC Solid Reactive. The Spec Solid Reactive is designed to give heavy midlane roll for the longer/heavier volume lane conditions. I personally like the Asymmetric bowling balls becuase they help me blend the lane front to back. Sometimes with strong bowling balls like this, they tend to burn up and don’t go through the pins very well. The Spec cover on the proven Catalyst Core retains plenty of energy allowing me to split the 8/9 a lot. If you need a ball to combat the heavy volume/longer patterns, this is the ball you’ve been waiting for! This ball will be better for Rev challenged players and speed dominant players. If you are Rev dominant or throw it slower, I suggest speaking with your PSO before drilling! The comparison I did was betweent the Crux Prime and the Sure Lock. For me they offered similar strength, but the Sure Lock had more pop downlane (Probably because its older). The Crux was much smoother and earlier rolling.

If you're looking for that signature clean yet forward motion that we have come to expect from the code series balls, look no further. The Dark Code clears the front as well as the Astro Physix but has a quicker but more forward response time than the Astro. This ball will be good on the drier house conditions if you elect to keep the surface shiny, but don't be scared to take some surface to it. I feel like the Code series balls are core heavy reactions and when you knock the shine off of the Dark Code, you'll really see that core dominate and control the pocket. I have really enjoyed the versatility of this piece and I think you will too.

What a fantastic continuation of the Signature line. Many felt the timeless was just too weak in the midlane. Well, Storm fixed that with the Nano Hybrid Cover. This ball has no problem picking up in the mid. The hybrid cover also allows it to retain lots of energy on the back.

This ball is in my opinion really closer to a Hyroad Nano since the cover base is the same. The Hyroad nano could be used on the fresh and when they start to transition you could step down into the Drive no problem. I love this 1-2 much storm has provided us!

It is hard not to compare the Electrify Hybrid to the Electrify Pearl since they both are being released at the same time. The Electrify Hybrid forced me a few boards further left with my feet from where I was standing with the Electrify Pearl. To me, the Hybrid is everything the Pearl is not. The Electrify Hybrid has a sleek look to it with the Black/Silver and Neon Red colors where the Pearl has the bright pink and blue. It is a pinch smoother overall because of the Hybrid coverstock. This will be a ball for players that want a cleaner motion, but don’t want that uncontrollable downlane reaction. I think the Electrify Hybrid bridges the gap nicely between an Electrify Pearl and say any of the !Qs. Im not afraid to say that if you cracked the shell with a 1000 or 2000 pad, this ball could handle a lot more oil. If left at box finish or near box, it will be perfect for drier house shots and will get a ton of play at the end of a long tournament block. Much like the Electrify Pearl, the Electrify Hybrid will be friendly to players with higher rev rates on the drier conditions along with players who are looking to stay to the outside of the rest of the field. I didn’t mention this in the first video but upon reflection, I think this line of balls will be perfect for people who are looking to learn how to hook a ball or want that step above plastic/entry level. You really get a Big Bang for your buck here.

I drilled this ball pin down because my ball roll makes the low end pearl balls over under for me sometimes. In order to try to control the down lane reaction I use stronger drillings. Out of the box, the Electrify Pearl is beautiful. The colors pop and the Cake smell is AWESOME. Within the first few shots, I knew this ball was special. It was quick off the spot and ran the 8 over. Unlike some of the low end stuff I have thrown, this ball didn’t over skid in the oil. It feels comfortable in my hands. I feel that in the past I had to place, or try to split boards, with the low end balls in order to strike. With this one, I could just let it fly and trust that it would do the right thing. I think this ball will be good for a variety of players. High rev players will like this on medium to dry lane conditions and low end players can use it when the track is burned up. It will help keep the low rev players closer to the track and not force them deeper with higher rev players. Like I have said in the past, the conditions I bowl on are pretty dry. I can see myself using this ball a lot. Some balls speak for themselves and this is sure one of them!

I have been a fan of the Electrifys since the beginning. I bowl on higher friction surfaces so the Electrifys allow me to stay further right for most of the night. The Electrify solid provides just a bit more traction than my Electrify Pearl. When I need something that is just a few feet sooner and a little smoother than the pearl, but still in that weaker category, the Electrify Solid is the answer. I think this ball will be better for everyone in the sense that its cover is stronger and can be used on more than just the desert. Compared to other balls the Electrify Solid is stronger than the Tropicals, and the previous Electrifys; it is not stronger than hustles or burners.

The Fast Pitch really redefines old school urethane. For me, the Pitch Black and Pitch Purple have a pretty defined shape downlane that wasn't prevalent in the old school urethane days. The Fast Pitch, unlike the PB and PP, is more like old school urethane. It reads early and bails hard downlane. On the shorter patterns this ball will help any player control the pocket with ease. The Fast Pitch, for me is by far the weakest urethane ball out of the three. If you're looking for that old school read and bail shape that carries the wall shots and light mixers, look no further than the Fast Pitch.

The Fever Pitch is probably the most anticipated ball in some time. I was SHOCKED when I first threw this ball. It was a motion from “urethane” that we’ve been missing in our line. My Pitch Blue was by far the weakest urethane ball I had. The Fever Pitch is much stronger than the Pitch Blue and can be used on more than just the “driest of dry” oil patterns. It provides a good compliment to the Pitch Black as well. I think when the oil begins to carry down on the shorter patterns, the Fever Pitch be the go to ball because it has more pop than the Pitch Black. In all, the Fever Pitch is similar in strength to the Pitch Black, the difference lies in where they read the lane. The Pitch Black reads the front part of the lane HARD. The Fever Pitch sees the fronts less and offers some more motion down lane.
Players can start out on the lower volume patters/shorter patterns with a Pitch Black. When the oil starts to carry down, you’ll be able to switch to the Fever Pitch with no problems.
In my opinion this Fever Pitch will be better suited for the heavy handed guys and the slower ball speed players.

Gravity Evolve
I was too young and inexperienced to throw a Virtual Gravity when it was first released, so naturally I was excited when Storm announced that they were bringing a modified version back! Gravity Evolve (GE) features the SPEC cover that we saw on the Crux Prime and the Pro-Motion. The strong Asym (Crux Prime) ball that we released earlier this year was too strong for the conditions that I bowl on. With this in mind, I drilled the GE weaker utilizing a taller pin position to get it to go further down the lane. I think this is the best asymmetrical ball that Storm has released since the Lock. The GE reads the front part of the lane and the mid-lane well but is not as strong as the Crux Prime. To me, the slightly weaker motion will benefit players. I threw my GE on a burnt house pattern with some carry down. On those conditions, the GE revel up in the front part of the lane and just laid in front of the head pin. This is a motion that I love. Strong asymmetrical bowling balls are supposed to rev up and control the pocket— not jackknife downlane. The GE fits between our Pro-Motion/Physix’s and the Crux Prime which will make it house pattern friendly and also friendly on medium to heavy oil conditions. Don’t be scared to drill one of these! The Gravity Evolve will take the market by Storm ;)

The Hy-Road Max is by far the strongest Hy-Road to date. It has the NeX Coverstock which is Storm’s strongest Coverstock. For me, Hy-Roads were always on the cleaner and flippier side anyways, so its nice that Storm gave us a Hy-Road that brings the breakpoint closer to us. Following, I usually throw the Hy-Roads at the end of blocks when the lanes have really broken down. The new Hy-Road Max will come into play earlier in the blocks because of the cover. I think its pretty obvious what this ball will do without me spoon-feeding it to you. The cover is stronger, therefore, it will be earlier than the rest of the Hyroads we currently make. I anticipate using this ball on long patterns where the lane surface hooks, medium patterns, flatter patterns and possibly even shorter patterns where I really need to control my angles off of the gutter. You will see smoother ball motion out of the Max which will help control the pocket. House shots are not out of the equation either. This past week a buddy of mine bowled 858 with his Hy-Road Max on the house shot. Hy-Roads are known for being user friendly no matter what style you have and I think the Max continues the trend. As always, I try to give different styles an idea of what to expect. Slower speed player or rev dominant players will see this ball really dig in the midlane because of the NeX cover.

The Hyroad Nano is absolutely incredible. This ball combines one of the best cover formulations ever along with arguably the best core ever. What could go wrong??

The Hyroad Nano reads the midlane perfectly for a stronger symmetric bowling ball. Its a perfect transition ball that will continue very well through the pins with that Inverted FE2 core. This ball is a MUST HAVE in your bag!

This ball will be perfect when the pearl balls go too long and are too late downline.

The Hy-road X is the latest release in the thunder line. This ball celebrates the 10th anniversary of one of the best bowling balls any company has ever made: Hy-road. Out of the box the black Hy-road X with yellow letters stands out; Its factory shined solid cover is stunning. Don’t let the solid cover fool you though; For me, this ball has a stronger overall ball motion than the Hy-road Pearl and the Hy-road (OG). The Hy-road X is also stronger downlane than the previous Hy-roads in my opinion. The Hy-road Nano is by far the strongest due to the nano base cover stock. The Hy-road X comes in second in overall strength followed by the (OG) Hy-road and the Hy-road Pearl being the weakest. Do not be scared to hit this ball with surface! I have my Hy-road X at 1000 and the continuation is insane!

I’m able to get this ball to the right early and keep my hand soft. Doing this allows the ball to work for me where with other balls I have to really shape it with my hand. One downside about this ball is that it doesn’t quite get up the hill when my angles are left and in the puddle. I think this shows that this ball isn’t the strongest piece we make but is still smoother than our strong symmetrical balls. High Rev players and slow speed players should be able to use this ball on heavy oil lane conditions and can probably get by with using this ball the first game of league. Speed dominant players and rev challenged players will love this ball. Its not quite as strong as our Proton Physix or Reality but it creates a faster transition off of the dry compared to the Rubicon which will help you create more entry angle and in turn, better pin carry.

The intense absolutely holds up its name. This ball does back flips down the lane without giving up the midlane roll.

I was fortunate enough to win a tournament a few weeks ago using this bowling ball. There was the typical house shot cliff where the hold was too oily and the dry was very dry. This ball allowed me to move left and open my angles up without giving up the pin carry. Im 100% impressed with this bowling ball.

The New Intense Fire from Storm offers the RAD-E core which offers large amounts of stored energy to produce consistent ball roll with awesome pin carry. The previous Intense was very clean through the fronts and had a sharp motion down lane. The Intense Fire has a Hybrid cover stock which makes it read the lane about 2-3 foot sooner. I think the Hybrid coverstock will allow players to manipulate the surface more than the original Intense and also allow players to use this ball earlier on in the block.

I look forward to using this ball in the transition games as it reads the midlane better than the original Intense which will help me to control the pocket. Players with lower rev rates and slower ball speeds will see better midlane performance out of this ball compared to the original Intense.

The original Intense offered easy length for me. Almost too much length. I found myself constantly having to touch the surface up to get it to read the lane. As a player with a high amount of Axis Rotation I don’t like bowling balls that naturally float through the front. I was extremely excited for the Intense Fire because of the Hybrid coverstock. For me the Intense Fire picks up about 2-3 feet sooner on the lane which I like to see because this will help me control the pocket more.

The Intense Fire will be perfect for when the lanes are starting to transition where the strong solid asymmetrics are too strong and your symmetrical pearls are too week. This will give more length than those solid balls but will have the core power that the symmetrical balls don’t to keep you striking!!

The !Q Emerald may be the ball of the year. The !QE (!Q Emerald) is a continuation and a relaunch of the Gold !Q. Having both, the !QE is slightly earlier and has more pop downline. I think this is due to the darker color. Im a huge fan of the !QE personally because it gives me a controllable motion when I knock the factory shine off of it. Out of the box I bowled 300, 297 and 801. I think this ball is a shape we have been missing for some time unless you have a relatively fresh gold ball. Compared to other balls in the line, the !QE is a step down from the Astro Physix and they make great compliments because they both have the R@S cover stock. If you drill these the same you’ll see an earlier shape out of the AstroPhysix and more downline motion with the !QE. Compared to the !Q Tour, the !QE makes you stand further left to control the downline pop. The !QE will be perfect for house patterns with lots of friction and later in the blocks at tournaments!

Wow. What a great compliment to the IQ Line. The IQ Tour Nano Pearl is the first Nano Pearl ball in the IQ line. You'll get exactly what you expect with this piece. It is smooth for a pearl ball because of the nano cover base. It reads the midlane well and transitions nice off of the end of the oil pattern. I think this ball will be successful on any type of lane condition like the rest of the IQ line. Compared to other balls in the line, the Nano Pearl is stronger than the IQ Tour Solid and is much earlier than the IQ Emerald. The IQ Tour Nano Pearl bridges the gap nicely between the Phase II/III and the IQs.

The New Match Up Black Pearl comes out of the box sanded with a 2000 grit factory finish. This Match Up is the earliest and the smoothest in the Match Up Line. A simple comparison could be to the Hustle HYB.

This ball reads the midlane well because of the amount of surface it comes out of the box with. I love the heavy consistent roll this ball gives me. I look forward to using this piece on the heavier volume patterns where I can stay close to the track and trust that this ball will keep me out of trouble. The cover stock is a pearl overstock, however the cover retains surface very well and isn't as snappy on the back end as previous Match Ups. The consistency of this ball off the breakpoint is something every bowler looks for in a bowling ball.

The New Match Up Black Pearl reads the lane sooner than the Match Up Hybrid. Although this comparison is between a Hybrid Coverstock and a Pearl Coverstock, the box surface makes the Black Pearl about 2-3 boards stronger overall.

As you can see by the video, the Match Up Hybrid makes a much more defined motion on the back end while the Black Pearl has a smoother motion which will allow you to use it on heavier volume patterns.

I would recommend this Match Up Black Pearl for players who are looking to get the most bang for their buck. Players with higher rev rates or slower ball speed might want to polish this ball a tiny bit to get it to push slightly further down the lane since the surface makes it roll earlier. This Match Up Black Pearl will also be great for players who tend to see over under with the lower end balls. It’s a much more even ball motion then I’ve experienced with the other Match Ups.

The Match Up Black, Red, Blue is a continuation of the popular Match Up line. The new BRB has a smoother motion than the previous Match Up hybrid. This ball will be perfect for those patterns that are dry in the front and really dry downlane. Its clean through the front but doesn't snap too hard downlane! I was really impressed by how straight I could go with this piece. Usually low end balls with small cores absolutely jackknife off the dry, this ball though is different. The BRB was so smooth off the end of the lane. I think ball will fare well on the new shorter patterns were seeing from the PBA. Im excited for you guys to throw this ball!

The Omega Crux is the latest edition in the Crux series. It has the GI-20 Pearl overstock and features the same core that was in one of last year’s high performance releases, the Crux Prime. I drilled my Omega 75 x 5 x 40. Out of the box you will notice something is different about this ball. It has a sanded pearl finish. Usually Pearl balls come out of the box with with factory shine or a high surface finish such as 4000 grit. I personally am a fan of the sanded finish. When I get a shiny ball, the first thing I do is take a pad to it. I do this for a few reasons, first is the fact that polish fills the pours of the overstock which hinder reaction. Secondly, shine typically doesn’t give consistent ball motion. Im looking for my ball to pick up in the fronts or midlane, the pattern dictates how soon the ball needs to read, and continue through the pins. I think when you use more surface it allows you to see that midland shape better. I am quite impressed with this ball. I’ll be honest, the Crux Prime was not my favorite ball nor have any of the past Crux’s been for that matter. I used it on some heavy lane conditions where it rolled well, but average bowlers generally don’t see the kind of volume that the Prime requires. I also bowl in centers with lots of friction, so I never found myself throwing it much. With that being said, I was quite skeptical about the Omega. Out of the 30ish shots I threw with it, I only missed a handful of times. It really surprised me how well this ball went through the pins. I think it was due to the surface/cover combo. The surface was really conducive to blending the wet/dry of the house pattern. Sometimes with shiny pearls, they tend to underperform in the puddle of the house condition. With the surface and the big catalyst core, the Omega picks up easily in the oil and slaps the 10 out. I think a variety of players will enjoy this ball. Lowrys rev players who are looking for mega shape, but can’t get the Prime through the fronts will love this piece. I also believe high speed player will like this too. The Omega Crux will continue through the pins when the Prime doesn’t quite hit right. Higher rev players should be cautious about drilling any asymmetrical ball and the Omega is not excluded. The best knowledge comes from PSO’s. So if you’re interested in any new Storm/Roto Grip ball, you should talk to them.

It goes without saying that the Omega Crux is cleaner and shapes harder downlane than a Crux Prime. However, the Omega Crux doesn’t give up that lopey slow roll that is associated with the core. I compared the Omega to a Gravity Evolve, Halo Vision and a Halo Pearl. Compared to the Evolve, the Omega was about the same overall strength but produced more shape downlane. Compared to the Vision the Omega was abut 3-4 boards stronger and the Omega was much stronger downlane. Finally, compared to the Halo Pearl, because the Omega comes out of the box with surface, its about 3-4 boards stronger as well.

The Parallax is the newest piece from Storm. It has an all new weight block that has a hollowed out section which aims to produce consistent reaction of off the breakpoint. My initial impression is that this ball is different from what Storm has made in the past. This ball is smooth for a hybrid covered ball. Hybrids in the past have been strong down lane but the Parallax has a strong midlane read. Another thing I noticed is how fast the Parallax revs up in front of the pins. I'm no scientist so I'm not sure if this is visual or mathematical but it does seem to increase the pin carry. This ball will be good on the house patterns and the medium/heavy oil patterns.

The Parallax Effect is much better than its predecessor. The first Parallax wasn't my favorite. It seemed to be hit or miss on patterns and wasn't all that special on house. The Parallax Effect is the ball that the first Parallax should have been. It has the same core with a pearl cover and out works the first ball by a mile. Usually with Pearl asyms we get incredibly weak covers on huge cores. The cover on the Effect feels much stronger than what we're used to seeing from Storm. Don't expect this ball to labor in the oil. When throwing this ball it seemed to always want to overhook which isn't a bad thing compared to some pearls that want to wiggle off in the oil. Compared to the Parallax, the Effect is stronger and has more shape overall which will allow you to not only use it earlier but use it on a variety of oil patterns.

PHAZE III
Review by Anonymous User Phaze III
PHAZE FREAKING THREE. I could literally stop there. The Phaze II (P2) is arguably the best tournament ball on the market today. If you’re a tournament player and throw Storm equipment, it is highly likely you have a Phase II in the bag. The Phaze III (P3) looks great with the Green/Purple/Black color combo and it smells like grape. I have a fair amount of axis tilt/rotation, so I am always more cautious when drilling them. I used a stronger layout on my P3 (45 x 4.5 x 60) just to ensure it wouldn’t hockey stick downlane. Boy was I impressed. For me this is exactly as described: A cleaner P2 with more pop downlane. I could stand in the same spot and throw both balls and they both strike. There is a clear difference though. The P2 reads the midlane harder and in my experience went light mixer strike. Standing in the same place with the P3, it cleared the lane probably 2 more feet and was more responsive off the friction to go dead flush. So what does this actually mean? This means that the P2 is a great piece for the beginning of league night or the beginning of a tournament block. The P3 will come into play when the P2 becomes lazy on the backend and starts to leave the weak corners. Going from the P2 to the P3 won’t be a guessing game though, you can stand in the same spot with the P3 as you did the P2. Lastly, this ball does a good job of bridging the gap between our pearl balls. There is now a nice car progression from AstroPhysix-Phaze III-Emerald. Our line has never looked better!!

This is the ball of the year. What a good motion this thing makes going down the lane and through the pins!

The new Physix has become a staple in my bag from the beginning. My first impression out of the box was twofold; one, WOW this ball looks great, the Blue/Purple/Red combo looks so good sitting on the shelf and the light blue color helps me read the ball motion. Secondly, it smells great. The Apple Berry Crisp smells good yet it is not overbearing. The Physix for me is the ball the Code X was not. By this I mean, I always wanted a motion stronger than the Code X, but something weaker than my Sure Lock. The Physix accomplishes this. The Physix has an overall round shape that the Code X does not. The Physix allows me to control the pocket better than the Code X because it sees the midlane better. Personally, the Code X was too sharp off the spot and the Sure Lock is really early. The PhysiX is right in the middle and I can manipulate the surface to control the lane. Everyone should have a Physix in their bag!!

The Pitch Purple is a release that aims to modernize urethane and allow players to throw it longer. Generally, urethane balls carry oil down the lane rendering them useless after a few games. With the Pitch Purple, I saw half the carry down that I am used to throwing the Pitch Black. Other companies have made urethane that has revolutionized the sport. In my opinion, this ball offers similar overall strength but it still has a character all its own. We released the Fever Pitch not long ago and it was popular on the driest of dry lane conditions. But its kryptonite was that it lane shined in a matter of shots where other angular urethanes keep their surface for long periods of time. In my five or so games with the Pitch Purple, I saw very little lane shine. In actuality, the Pitch Purple is a unique shape that fits somewhere between a urethane ball and reactive. It has the early roll of the urethane and showed signs of having trouble getting the ball to face up when my angles were not open enough. If it saw any of the oil in the middle of the lane, it wouldn’t get to the pocket. To the adverse, it showed signs of reactive as well. It had more motion downlane than a urethane piece but would hook through the nose if I got it to the right too soon. It genuinely fit in the middle of a urethane ball and low end reactive. The Pitch Purple will be money on those patterns where you need to square up but the Pitch Black just is not right and where a stronger piece gives you an extreme wet-dry reaction.

To say that this is Storms version of a Purple Hammer is stretching the truth just a bit. Pitch Purple has a solid urethane cover that provides a different shape. It reads the lane sooner and has less angularity downlane which is what urethane is designed to do. I compared the Pitch Purple with the Pitch Black and this is where the Pitch Purple really knocked it out of the park. I threw the Pitch Black In the same spot as the Purple and it washed out. The next shot I tried to grab it with all I could and it got a lazy 10 out. I finally began to move back to the right with the Pitch Black where it would see the friction enough. In all I had the Purple a full zone more and this is due to the reaction it provides downlane. In sum it was no where near as strong as a Match Up Black Pearl which was 5 stronger than the Pitch Purple. In order from strongest to weakest for this comparison its Match Up Black, Pitch Purple then Pitch Black.

Finally for the end of the video I tried moving as far right as I could without letting the Pitch Purple read too soon. I was surprised at how much of a “urethane” reaction I got when I broke my wrist and played it up around 10. Shots before I was doing circles around the Pitch Black downlane, but with a simple hand adjustment it squared up and laid in front of the 1/3 like urethane is supposed to do. In all I am super impressed with this piece. More so than I was with the Fever Pitch.

The new Pro-Motion is a new collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte. For me, this ball will be the first ball out of my bag at every tournament. It does everything the !Q Tour did when it first came on the scene. I was able to get my hand up the back and play closer to the friction and I was also able to get it to loop the lane without giving up any hitting power. The Pro-Motion has the SPEC Cover that we first saw on the Crux Prime. I think this make these two balls a good one two punch. If you’re bowling on an oil pattern that is higher volume or really cliffed, you can start practice with a Pro-Motion. If you see the ball just isn’t enough yet, a simple switch to the Crux will do the trick! I can’t wait to throw this ball on some harder patterns that are closer to 1:1. Another great character trait of the pro motion is that I think it will be perfect for the transition games. Whenever you are bowling a tournament or league, the lanes are most definitely going to get funky after some shots are thrown on it. Throwing a Pro-Motion here will allow you to control the pocket and come away with consistent ball reaction that will keep your scores high!! Overall, its a step down from the Crux Prime and stronger than an original !Q Tour!

Hook in a box. That's what you'll get with the Proton Physix. I have had huge success with the Protons predecessors. I have multiple 800s with both the Physix and the Astro Physix. Fast forward to the Proton and you have a combination of the Atomic core and the NeX coverstock. I was skeptical that this ball would be even slower than the Axiom due to the bigger weight block. BOY WAS I WRONG. This ball has plenty of giddyup down lane and you won't be disappointed. You'll still find that this ball is weaker than balls such as the Omega Crux and Gravity Evolve. The Proton Physix bridges the gap nicely between our strong symmetrical balls and our huge asymmetrical pieces.

Wow wow wow. I haven't seen a shape like this from storm in quite a long time. The brand New Soniq absolutely wheels down lane. Toward the end of a long block you can just get in and throw it to the friction and throw pins everywhere.

The versatility of this cover and core are what impressed me the most. I threw it out of the box and was able to move left and just wheel the lane. However, I touched the cover with some surface and rolled my hand up the back of it and it was SUPER SMOOTH. I was able to move back right a few boards and play it closer to the friction without giving any pin carry.

If you don't have this ball in your bag, you'll get beat with it.

When the Super Soniq was announced, I was SUPER excited for it (Pun Intended) because its Centripical HD Core is wrapped in the same cover as the PhysiX. The Physix is always one of the first balls out of my bag due to its versatility and I am excited to have a symmetrical version now.
For me the original Soniq is one of the strongest balls I have ever thrown. Believe it or not he Super Soniq is STRONGER, if that was even possible. It is literally hook in a box.
The orange color really stands up in the midlane and drives hard through the pins. I LOVE to see that. If you can control the midlane, you can control the pocket. This ball will be perfect for the heavier volume lane conditions and the super walled house patterns. The heavy midlane roll will blend the wet/dry lane conditions for league bowlers while providing a good ball down from the Physix on harder conditions. Discretion: Players with high rev rates and or low ball speed should consult with their local Storm VIP PSO before drilling. This ball is STRONG.
In the comparison the original Soniq appears to be “stronger” but this is only due to its violent response off of the friction downlane. Overall the Super Soniq is about 2-3 more boards overall if there was more oil on the lane.

Trend is the newest collaboration between Jason Belmonte and Storm. Personally, it gives me that signature Belmo ball carry. The difference in carry is small, but if you watch a Belmo Ball go through the pins and a different Storm ball go through the pins, the Belmo ball tends to finish in the 8 pin spot. This ball gives me incredible length with good carry. Personally, I find this ball to be similar to the Idol Pearl. One difference though is that the Idol Pearl is just a tad bit smoother off the end of the pattern.

The Original Trend was good for me. When the lanes were dry and I needed a clean cover, big core symmetrical ball, the Trend was the best. Sometimes though, I felt like the Trend was too clean. There are defects with every ball. The Trend 2 reads the lane sooner for me. Compared to the original Trend, the Trend 2 is a few feet sooner and not quite as sharp off of the end of the pattern. The Trend 2 will be money when the lanes are starting to transition, but haven't quite gotten to the burn stage yet. This ball will give you some length through the front and a nice controlled motion off of the breakpoint where the original trend would miss that spot. Overall strength wise, it fell right below the Axiom Pearl/Zen slot.
