The WORLD of bowling REALITY has been ALTERED by the latest release from Global.
Reminiscing about the great days of my bowling days, I loved the Epic line very much and the 900 Global Reality reacted just like the Roto Grip Odyssey, hoping the 900 Global Altered Reality would be the EPIC SAGA, it was a very close reaction overall. A little longer and stronger, due to updated coverstock materials. But it worked even better with the polished knock off, became less over / under and did not hydro in the front part of the pattern and I was able to use it throughout the whole night of testing, practice, and league play.
UPDATE: after writing this, I went and decided to venture to an older center where "bowlers'' don't me as well as the other 2 centers I practice at or bowl leagues at, the lanes are wood in super GREAT shape, they use an older Ion machine, but the Altered Reality worked really well the whole night of practice. I did hand polish it because at 2000 grit, the ball was a little bit too early for my likings. If you are looking for a "BIGGER" piece in your league and tournament bags, this would be an AWESOME addition

Does anyone remember the Roto Grip Loco Pearl??? Well, this is the bigger brother to that ball. Stronger than any Hustle Pearls up to the recent Wine Hustle and does not disappoint in the overall performance. This ball performed very close to the Hyroad Pearls I have drilled in the past at a lower price point. This will be the number #2 ball in the tournament arsenal along with its brother the Global Burner Solid. So in the bags will be in order: Burner Solid, Burner Pearl, Idol Synergy, RST-X1, RST-X2, and Zen Master or Zen.

Well, this one was a little surprising for me. Wanted a ball closer to the INK and the Camo just did not do what I expected, mostly due to the experimental layout I used on it, I found the Global Burner Solid a close 2nd to the Hustle INK. A strong ball from front to back of the lane, still managed to save energy and also did not under hook or over hook. Really liked how easy it rolled and was predictable from front to bak, no "WHOA" what was that reaction like some other entry level performance pieces out there. Will replace my INK in my tournament arsenal for sure once I get back up and rolling through the tournament in the near future. #GoGlobal

900 Global Eternity by Roto Grip Rick Mitchell
My specs: Ball speed 15+, Rev rate 425, PAP 4 and up 13/16
Layout: 60 x 1 ½ x 65 and box finish with Reacta Gloss, used on SPL and HPL lane surfaces with Typical house pattern.
Coverstock – S84 Response Pearl Reactive with all new Epoch – box finish is Storm Reacta Gloss.
The Epoch Asymmetric Core is an ALL-NEW design that was inspired from the original Break Core that was used in any other 900 Global balls in the past. By changing and lowering the intermediate diff, it prevents the ball from locking or losing too much energy too soon and allowing a sharp backend recovery. The cover allows the ball to stay clean front to back of the pattern and you don’t have to get aggressive with drilling angles. The cover and core combo makes most patterns readable and allow you to stay in the ball longer during the course of league and tournament play. On stronger cores I started to use shorter pin 2 pap drillings because of my recent changes in fit, I don’t need strong drillings to make the ball aggressive. I found the Eternity to be very close to the Altered Reality from last year, just a tuned down version of it. During league the Eternity roll up to the pocket with a good bit of speed and angle and stayed consistent throughout the night and then later during some much-needed practice sessions. I feel it had a little stronger pin to pap drilling, it would be to over / under for me. The Reacta Gloss has held up very well over the course of the past several weeks on using the Eternity.
The Matchmaker balls have been very versatile for all levels of bowlers and lane conditions. Even after 2 hours of lane play at Matchmakers, the Eternity still reacted very well and kept striking even on the burned-up lanes. The Reacta Gloss is holding up very well on the demo balls where the prior surface prep would have been used up.
Don’t shy away from adding the 900 Global Eternity to your bowling arsenal for the upcoming local, state, and national tournaments. This ball is very versatile and well worth the investment.

900 Global Honey Badger Intensity - S70 hybrid coverstock with the Grapnel 2.0 Core - 4000ab grit factory finish
layout - 70 x 1 1/2 x 60

The Honey Badger Intensity really has dug it's claws into me, (see what I did there)! Finally got to the one of the newest legendary bowling ball cores. The Grapnel 2.0 core proves once again to add length and great traction down lane that the Honey Badger line has produced in the past. With now adding the S70 hybrid cover stock onto this core has given the HB Intensity a totally different look that the HB line in the past did not have.

I noticed with this ball the motion is similar to a Roto Grip Idol solid with a similar layout, the Intensity went a tick longer off of the pattern with just a slightly stronger angle entering pocket. Great ball for any condition and any type of bowler. this ball is INTENSEity...

Kuddos to Bret Bowlers' Supply, Inc and Vise Inserts for their patience and assistance to help me learn the sport I love so much better...

Global 900 Reality - S84 solid reactive coverstock - Disturbance asymmetrical core
2000ab grit factory finish - layout - 70 x 6 x 35

My first Global 900 ball turns out to be a blast of awesomeness! When I saw the picture of the core, I instantly contacted Mike Sinek, staff manager for SPI, that this was going to be a HOME RUN! The core is very similar to the RG Epic Battle from a few years ago and I scored a TON with that ball.

Fast-forward to 2021 and found the Reality to be super in length and holding a ton of energy into the pocket. Pin carry was exceptionally well. The motion all the way down the lane was very subtle and not ultra violent.

An Asys ball that still can be a benchmark ball for mid to heavy volume patterns may it be house or sport conditions. very similar to the Roto Grip RST-X1, just a little smoother in pocket angle.

Thanks again to Bret Bowlers' Supply, Inc and Vise Inserts for their constant support and tutoring...

WOW.. The Wolverine has a serious return on the investment so far. Off the pattern, it looks like a little bowling gnome is standing 4 feet before the rack and the ball goes HARD and STRONG thru the pins. Usually 1 inch pin drillings for me read early, as designed and get super smooth. Well, I was quite surprised by the strong reaction the ball had in the back end. It was not over / under at all during the course of practice and then league. Had 2 other lefties on the pair with me and I just adjusted to the left of where they were playing, to stay clean and still keep striking without losing any carry. So IMPRESSED by the ball, several bowlers ordered and bought Wolverines that night. My one teammate went and drove over 1 1/2 hours to a pro shop that had one in stock the very next day. The Wolverine to me reminds me of the Hyroad Pearl I had a few years ago with a just a tick longer skid, but a stronger overall reaction in the back end. The Wolverine is NOT a SHEEP... Its a KILLER of racks!!!

900 Global Zen Master - layout: 65 x 5 x 25 - 1500 grit sanded
Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL
Looking to replace a piece I feel I have been missing with the OG Idol was removed from the current line, I was excited to hear that the Global Zen Master was going to be released… So, to do a real good comparison, I drilled it to my most favorite Idol layout I used in the past. 65 x 5 x 25. For me, it looks like a over the label drilling with a delayed pin. The colors match very well on the ball, a little phasing even helps it I think, able to see the ball change motion better than the one color solids like the OG Roto Grip Idol. Was a little early on reading the patterns until the ball took on the lane shine, which I guess I could have taken up to fresh 4000, but I rather see how the ball changes as the lane shine on the cover takes on the change patterns as I use it. A little earlier off of the pattern and earlier into hook part of the motion, but still retain energy in the roll phase in the back end of the pattern and dry part of the lanes. Even using in the drier part of both patterns with a hand position change to add a little more forward roll, the ball held its own and did not hook early and did not lose any energy because it still had a great overall look on the back end. If you are looking for the OG Idol replacement - this 900 Global Zen Master is for YOU!

900 Global ZEN U
Specs: 35+ solid urethane with the mediate LD core - finished at 1000 grit out of the box
Layout: 45 x 4 x 45

When making a decision to drill a new urethane ball, the 900 Global ZEN U was a “no brainer” for me. Using a Strong pin to pap drilling so that I can compare to prior urethanes from Storm like the Pitch line. The Zen U fits right between the Pitch Black and the newer Roto Grip release, the Rubicon UC-3. The Pitch reads for me too early and the UC3 with similar went longer and flatter on the house pattern that I was practicing and testing on. I bowled on a fresh house condition of 46ft with SPL panels, knowing not to expect a ton of recovery, but I was ultimately surprised by how the ZEN U performed. Cleaner in the fronts and still saving power to hit the pocket without urethane typical urethane deflection and leaving corner pins. For my next adventure, I ventured to a bowling center near me where the center takes you back to the heyday of bowling. The wood lanes are pristine and very playable, I used the ZEN U there in practice time and in a local tournament. Where I found I had the best reaction out of the bowlers using urethane balls, the pearls were skidding a little extra long and the Pitch Blacks were burning up and hitting the pockets flat. For those league and tournament bowlers that want to invest in your performance and game, don’t shy from the GLOBAL ZEN U!

Roto Grip All Out Show Off:
Layout: 30 x 4 ½ x 40 = 1500 grit polished
On the new 46ft house pattern, the ball’s best look was standing 18L and keeping the ball outside of 8 through the front part of the pattern so it would not slow down in the heavier oil from 10-20. Once in there, the ball slow down a little too much for me and left more corner pins. Ball speed was also was a key. Starting the ball a little lower at set up, allow my ball speed to be controlled more to match the reaction better. If my ball speeds reach the 17 mph, it would not recover enough. Noticed once I had that happy area of ball speed of 16.0-16.5, I kept on striking and striking for at least 20 minutes non-stop. This ball will be great for those bowlers to have ball speed under 17 and average tilt and revs.

Coverstock Name 67MH™
Coverstock Style Hybrid
Coverstock Type Reactive
Weight Block Triliptic™
Color Purple & Green Pearl / Grey Solid
Finish 3000-grit pad

Test condition:

41FT THS with KEGEL FLEX machine with cleaner ratio 4:1 and Ice oil in both tanks

Used this with fresh THS and also sitting all day and night THS and found very similar looks and reaction than my Hyper Cell with little extra length before it change motions and a little harder kick in the backend. Reminds me of the original Roto Grip Critical Theory with about 2-4 boards stronger. I changed the surface to 1500-grit and it smoothed out the backend more to my liking. Next step was to polish it and I was able to square up more and play left of the track area on the fresh and used THS conditions. I think I will leave it at the 1500-grit and use it as my benchmark tournament ball for 40ft and longer patterns.

Coverstock: Amped Pearl
Core: Madcap
Finish: 1500 grit polished
Flare: medium to high
Layout: 45 x 5 x 45 – box finish
Test pattern: 44ft THS with Kegel Flex with Ice oil and Defense-C cleaner
Test results: Comparing to the Hy-wire, the Dare Devil was less angular and less over/under with similar layouts. The Hy-wire has been a “conditional” ball for me due to my rev rate and tilt. The Dare Devil provided me that extra length and good angle into the pocket. It rolls very similar to a Defiant Soul and a Totally Defiant with a pin down layout. Very consistent and did not vary too much after the conditioner started to carry down the lane. Played a few different entries into the pocket, from playing the gutter with more speed and less hand to 4th arrow with lessen ball speed with more hand, and both worked wonderfully. Will add this to my 4 ball THS arsenal. No Rules, No Rules polished, Dare Devil, and Hustle PRO.

Layout: 55 x 4 ¼ x 70 = 1500 grit polished
On the new 46ft THS, the track area has been “over conditioned” so you either down up 3rd arrow, or stay outside of 10. With the “TRIPLE DDD” I was able to get 5 boards deeper on the approach then the new All Out and playing the same area of the lane, around 8L and keeping it out there until the end of the pattern, inside of 12 to 15 the ball slows down a little too much and will tend to hit on the flatter angle into the pocket. 23L and crossing around 12 at the arrows and using 4-6 as the breakpoint was the best angle into the pocket option of this ball A really great ball for medium to light oil patterns and can be adjusted to anybody’s type roll, release and ball speed. One of the best all around balls on the market today, so don’t be afraid of a little “DANGER”…

Ball: Roto Grip Dare Devil Trick
Specs: 2000 grit AB with a 3” PAP layout
Lane info: HPL installed in early 2000’s and using KEGEL Flex with Fire/Ice combo w/ defense – C cleaner
What I liked: I liked that you could really identify the change in direction and also, the hitting and “staying” power of the ball all the way through the pin deck. The flare was a little less than I thought it would be, but it even made me happier seeing the ball finish like it did in the backend part of the lane. It really did not start up any sooner than my pin down Dare Devil and had less angle into the pocket, which on the fresh THS is great. Once I seen the ball start to carry down lane a little longer, I could switch to the Snap Lock or Torrent which would be the next balls up. Great all around THS ball that packs a brutal punch through the pins

Roto Grip DUO:
Tech specs: New Mentor core / Micro Trax Pearl Reactive / Finished with Reacta Gloss
Layouts: 60 x 2 x 40 and 70 x 4 x 30
My take: Drilling the DUO with a layout I love in my Roto Grip Hyped Hybrids – YES – that is PURAL, and Hyped Pearl, the reaction I saw was earlier and stronger then what I was anticipating even on Pro Lane with a heavier volume house pattern, the motion in all three stages were quicker in response. Even if I got in really deep – nose bleed area for my lefties of my caliber of game, the flare amount look like it had a strong 4” pin drilling. So at the recommendation of Earl Burger at ABC North in Harrisburg, we layout and drilled my second DUO at 70 x 4 x 30 and what a difference that made. The 2nd DUO became more predictable for the conditions that I bowl on and gave me the “look” I was hoping for. The roll through the pins was AWESOME and my first 5 games with the 2nd DUO were all 30 pins above my average. Anytime a ball can help you improve your average and game – its worth the investment. THE BEST thing about this ball is the purpose behind it – To raise awareness and money for Big Brothers / Big Sisters because a portion of EVERY DUO sold goes to them. Why not buy one or a DUO of them and improve your game and HELP OUT kids also – it is a WIN – WIN situation.

ETERNAL CELL 40 x 4 ½ x 55

Coverstock Name 75M™
Coverstock Style Solid
Coverstock Type Reactive
Weight Block Nucleus™ Core
Color Raspberry / Orange / Black
Finish 1500-grit polished

Test condition:

41FT THS with KEGEL FLEX machine with cleaner ratio 4:1 and Ice oil in both tanks

Found the Eternal Cell did very well as the lanes started the transition. On the fresh I bowl on, this ball was a little strong for the back end of the pattern, once I drugged some oil down between 42-45 feet, the ball started to set up better for me and did not what to hook through the nose by playing the same area I do with the LOCK. When the ball hits the pins at 16-18 degree angle, the pins scatter like ants running away from an anteater. The coloring is really nice to watch how the ball is the “skid, hook, and roll” and can make adjustments a lot quicker than other balls I recently drilled. It rolls and reacts like a stronger drilling Rogue Cell I had with the cover stock being polished. Another AWESOME ball in the CELL legacy… This might be the best one since the original CELL for me.

Roto Grip Exotic Gem – Defiant LRG core with e-Trax Pearl reactive cover stock – with Reacta Gloss finish.
My specs: Ball speed 15+, Rev rate 425, PAP 4 and up 13/16
Layout: 50 x 2 x 60 used on SPL and HPL lane surfaces with Typical house pattern – both with a BIG cliff on the end of the pattern.
Was quite excited when Schlem at Roto Grip decided to bring back one of the best asymmetrical cores back the Defiant LRG core, which means to me the fastest, captivating and STRIKING core Roto Grip has had, then they even made the ball sweeter, by wrapping that alluring cores with the most aggressive pearl cover to date, the e-Trax pearl.
To put it in very simple terms for me, the ball was simply a “GEM” in both centers. The Exotic Gem with the strong combination of this cover and core, gives you the angular reaction in backend like a normal pearl, but you don’t have to “wait” to see the motion, and the direction the Exotic GEM goes through the pins is still strong, even though the ball starts up a little sooner, the ball does not QUIT. The Exotic GEM on the HPL lanes was a little bit strong on fresh, but with just changing a little bit in my set up and just use more of the middle part of the pattern, the ball struck A LOT. As the carry down starter, I did not have to change balls like I would normally do to stay inside of the other lefties I was bowling with, I was able to move my eyes down lane and close the angles up a little, and the Exotic GEM did not fail me. The center with SPL, it was the only ball I needed all throughout practice and scoring. By changing my release a little, I can manipulate the weight block to stand of a little bit earlier, to help with getting for end over end roll, which creates more energy down lane and still blow the racks apart. Don’t be afraid to invest in a Exotic GEM, even though it is an asymmetrical ball, it can be the best ball in your bag.
Now for longevity of the Reacta Gloss on the Roto Grip demo balls, I usually have to touch up the surfaces with polish after they are used for a few events. I have not touched up the demo balls other than cleaning them with Reacta Foam to get the condition and grime off of the balls. The cover bonds very well with the new Storm Reacta Gloss “polish”. So, maintenance is very light over the course of its life.

Once I heard that the Defiant core was coming back, I was gitty as a kid going to his first tournament. Schlem and the crew at SPI change the core material a little bit to bring it up to today’s game. Matching the MicroTrax cover to this updated core has added some smiles back onto my face and more strikes in my game. First thing that POPS out is the awesome color choices. You KNOW when the GEM goes do the lane and it really does turn heads on the lane and off the lane. The GEM replaced for me the Roto Grip UFO with more overall continuous motion and also not as early in the front part of the pattern where the majority of the conditioner is located. The GEM moves so well in the front that the energy it stores is the best I have seen in some time for a solid reactive in overall carry and strength going into the pocket. The GEM works well on all lane panels, including wood. I cannot wait to use this, Storm Nova, Hyped Pearl and Roto Grip Helios at Nationals in late June.

LANE INFORMATION: 44FT THS ON HPL INSTALLED IN EARLY 2000'S
This is the fourth ball I drilled after my return to bowling and needed a "stronger" piece then the Super Son!Q, needed longer length and same amount of angle to help compensate for my lack of ball speed and changing to 14lbs equiptment. I found the Halo Pearl to be unlike any pearl Roto Grip has had in the past. Even with having the IDOL Pearl with the same cover, the centrum core makes this ball REALLY strong, like He-Man strong. Even with carry down and moving deeper with my feet and changing the angle getting the ball to the breakpoint did not disappoint me or my partner that also tried it. He found that the deeper he played inside, the ball did not quit or give up in the heavier part of the pattern, did not over skid like other pearls in the past with similar layouts. Great BIG PIECE for any league or tournament bowlers.

After using the Halo Pearl and needing a little smoother but still a good quality in overall length and hook, adding the Vision was a "no-brainer" to my line up. I moved a little left of where I was starting with the Halo Pearl and was able to sue more the the blended part of the pattern and not so much of the heavier volume inside of 18-22 area where I need to be with the Halo Pearl. Did notice that Halo Pearl was more aggressive at 45-46 ft and then the Vision, for me it was more "even" and not so quick on the angles entering the pocket. A perfect add to my THS bag for league.

Test condition:

Found the Hectic with the lower length drilling to fit great in my arsenal. Cleaned and very “even” with the drilling angles and pin layout I used. Longer and more angle into the pocket then the Wrecker or the Deranged. The Late Roll core match with a medium type of cover makes a very impressive benchmark pearl ball. I found it to be similar to my 20 x 4 x 60 Hyper Cell Skid, with less over/under on beat up THS. Very similar to the older Storm ball the Lights Out. A great replacement if you liked that ball or the Shooting Star from Roto Grip.

What I like: Did not read early like any other all urethane balls made from Roto Grip or Storm before. It took on the fresh lane conditions quite well and hits super, super hard. Flare is HUGH on it, and really rolls like a weak reactive, but has the hitting power of a mile long freight train. Handle the breakdown even better, never relented throughout practice, recording, or league. At one point several league bowlers gathered behind my pair because they thought I was using some new “test” ball, and then stayed to watch the striking show. On shorter and grittier surfaces or 2nd shift league, this ball will be your main piece for years to come. High Performance, High Striking Power, and Super Durable…

Compared to the Hustle INK the Camo is really smooth and less reaction then the INK with a similar layout. I needed something with the recent house shot changes that would be super smooth and not overreact on the fresh. Played out of the normal track area and used the lighter oil outside of ten to help develop the shot. If used inside round 12-18, the ball just ran out of juice - mainly due to the layout. This ball and layout combo was fabulous on shorter patterns and lighter volumes on wood lanes. Really nice addition to the Roto Grip line. Don't be fooled by the CAMO, it's for REAL!

For being a BIG fan the HP1 line, especially the HUSTLE line, this ball did not disappoint. It moves a little earlier then the DD Trick for me, but had as much, if not more recovery then the DD Trick. Going through the pin deck, it carried very well, and did not quit driving. I am 3 boards left and hitting the same mark down the lane as my HUSTLE INK and has earlier movement but with the same amount of hitting power. Even after the carry down starts to take effect, I just simply move a little left with my eyes and allow the ball to catch a little lighter oil and I start carrying again. I really don’t need to make BIG moves with this ball. Once I find the line, its game on for me. I believe the HUSTLE line is the best performance entry line on the market. Where else can such a diverse in coverstocks in a line of balls under 130??? Nowhere else the ROTO GRIP… OwnIt!!!

What I like: Comparing to the Loco Solid that was released in the past, the Hustle goes a little longer down the lane before any reaction occurs, but the entry is almost identical to how the Loco Solid entered the pocket for me. Unlike the Loco Solid, if I did square up and went up the boards a little straighter, it did not have an earlier reaction like the Loco, which is nice considering that are lanes surface is quite “gritty” and tends to read earlier the SPL and newer HPL. Great THS ball for the money and also for shorter patterns like the new KEGEL destination patterns.

Hustle PBR is a great addition to the Hustle line, being an updated solid coverstock wrapped around the very established Hustle core, it gives the Hustle line another piece in the puzzle. Compared to the Hustle INK, the PBR rolls a little sooner and a little stronger than the now legendary INK. For me it rolls very similar to my Idol I have at 1500 grit. Early roll, but still enough energy stored to still create a good angle into the pocket. Earlier versions of Hustles that were reactive were weaker front to back and the PBR stands out because it is not "weak" at all. A great ball to add to your tournament ball or if you have a THS this is a little "sparky" in the later mid lane and backends.

Results: With having the 5 inch pin, I really did not expect the ball to be “strong” of off the pattern, but it was very strong off of the pattern and I used it for a scratch league after doing the initial ball video and figured out that this ball will be a great benchmark ball even though it’s a HP1 level, for centers with wood lanes, older HPL lanes or houses that tend to put out lower volume oil patterns. It was not as sharp entering the pocket as the RIG with 2in PAP layout, but it was still stronger than your average mid entry ball. The ball works consistently well, has great overall length, a good strong back end, and causes havoc on the pins.

While using this new Hustle RAP with the updated VTC pearl coverstock I compared it to the Hustle AU that Roto Grip currently has in it's HP1 line up. By the numbers and graph on the Roto Grip's website the balls are identical. But on the lanes I found the RAP to pick up a tid bit sooner than the Hustle AU, and my theory is that the AU cover and color, GOLD, may tend to skid a little longer due to the coloring. Besides that, the pocket entries are nearly identical and keep the pins low. For the money the Hustle line is the BEST BANG for your pockets - money and scoring on the market.

I love this Hustle USA, because it outperforms all other Hustles that have been released
since the Hustle INK was discontinued on this THS, The CAMO is smoother and not as strong in the backend as the USA, the USA will roll through the heavier part of the pattern without giving up as much energy as the CAMO. The USA still turns the corner from the hook to roll phase of the ball motion. The coloring allows me to read the direction changes on the ball more clearly than the Hustle CAMO and

This Hustle was a breath of fresh air for me. It reminded me of the Roto Grip Mystic I had several years ago. Very "calm" in the front part of the lane, easy through the middle of the pattern and a little sharpness to the back end reaction. Not your typical entry level "flip hook" like a Tropical Surge or similar designed balls. If I missed left, the ball did not over hook like my Tropical Surge when it got to the dry area too quickly. Played around with the surface a little and noticed that having it a 4000ab and lane shine it rolled the best for me. Once leagues start up for me, this will be in the ball along with the RST-X1 and maybe a Zen Master to make up the 3 headed monster.

Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL

The HP2 line just got HYPED UP!!!

Knowing Roto Grip King Pin "Schlem" was working a making the HP2 line stronger then ever, the Hyped Hybrid was going to be the first I drill between the Pearl and Hybrid. Knowing in the past on the SPL house I bowl in that pearls are NOT the way to play in or around the track area. The panels are super slick and the pattern is super juicy even with only being 44ft in length. Hitting it with 1500 grit before testing the ball was the best decision I made. It created a better overall look then the Electrify Solid I drilled earlier in the season for there and not a "lengthy" as the UC2 and Zen I was trying to use there. I needed a hybrid with a little stronger pearl percentage and that was easy to change surface as needed. It was very versatile on both patterns and type of lane surfaces. Adapted very well to the surface changes and held up through practice, testing and league. Will keep it at 3000 grit to use for league and practice at Colony Park Lanes being the middle ball, and having the UC3 as the weaker ball, and Idol Helios and RST X*2 for two stronger pieces. The Hyped Hybrid looked really good for two other bowlers I have worked with that don't have a ton of speed, ( 12 to 13 mph off the lane), and more end over end. The ball for them ready all three parts of the lane really well and where they usually have to switch to a stronger ball in length in the 3rd game, they kept the Hyped Hybrid in their hands and felt very comfortable with just making small adjustments as the matches went on. Don't be shy of the colors in this ball - it is a WOLF in Sheep's clothing.

Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL

The HP2 line just got HYPED UP!!!

After drilling the Hyped Hybrid with a shorter pin, and wanted to see how the PEARL version would be with a longer P2P with similar angles of what I had on the HP2 balls I had in the past.

The first thing I noticed was the direction change from skid to hook was a little shorter then I thought it would be, the movement in the mid part of the pattern / lane panels were a lot like my Hustle Wine with a 5 inch P2P. Moved in to the roll stage later then the Hustle Wine with a stronger angle into the pins. The SPL panels and 44ft THS caused the ball to labor a little more on the back end of the shots, and did not quite "get there" without getting outside of the track area or going deep into 4th arrow with closing down the angles in getting straighter. That was the BEST read I had with the Hyped Pearl. Still could miss a little in or out and the ball still roll great, held it own even through the breakdown. On HPL with 46ft THS, the ball was money anywhere I played on fresh and first part of the transition. The Hyped Pearl will be in that league bag for that center. Going with the Hyped Pearl, 5 inch P2P RST X*1, the RST*2, and Zen Master for that league.

Roto Grip Hyped Solid: VTC solid cover stock with the proven Hyped core.
The layout is 60 x 5 ½ x 50 and the surface was adjusted to 4000ab.
Currently using it in on a 46ft THS with older HPL lane panels that has a BIG cliff on the back of the pattern and not really blended well front to back and side to side. Super dry outside of 12 and super heavy conditioner between 16 to 16 across the boards.
What I found was a little mundane performance for me, the overall reaction was longer and smoother than even urethane, which on this pattern is a good thing when its fresh, but once the heads start going away, the Hyped Solid loses a ton of backend motion because of the carry down and it cannot roll through it. I also practiced on SPL lane surface with a longer, but well blended pattern and it looked awesome in the first 3 to 4 games, then it lost its “look” after that.
An awesome piece to start your night out, but in most cases I actually “balled down” to the Hustle USA to have a better reaction in the backend. This ball is super smooth and for bowlers that like to play “up the boards” this ball will be great for them.
Thanks to team at Roto Grip and Mike Sinek for all the help and guidance.

Very strong ball all the way down the lane, I expected a long and angular finish like my No Rules pearl. The transition out of the roll was a little longer then I thought it would be because of it being a hybrid cover, but not skip / flip. I loved the extra length it provides me when I need something longer and stronger then my Dare Devil. Used it on SPL in a tournament where I usually have to have something like a Dare Devil with a long pin to get through the sludge of oil and what usually happens is as I bowl more, the carry down happens really quick with the SPL and I start leaving corner pins almost every shot. If I move left, it hangs and if I move right, it also hangs, as soon I started leaving the corners, I changed to the FUSED and had the best game of the day. Long and strong is the name of the game with this awesome addition to the Roto Grip HP4 line… OwnIt!!!

Lane conditions: 42 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s.
Test results: I took my Hy Road, Hyper Pearl, and Wrecker to compare the Hy-Wire to doing the testing. I notice right away with the colors, I could “read” the ball better then Hy Road, and Hyper Cell, and just as good as my Wrecker. When it came time to test and look at the results, I noticed a great comparison to the Wrecker, just a tick longer and a tick more angular. It went longer than my Hyper Pearl and Hy Road also, which I was surprised when the Hyper Pearl started to move earlier off the spot then the Hy-Wire just because of the core and cover strength of the Hyper Pearl. I loved the additional length it provides me on the lane surface I usually bowl on, because even lower end balls that are pearl tend to “dig” in a little early for me and when I move, it start to get over/under almost right away. So, if you are looking to replace that Hy Road, Wrecker or Hyper Cell, this is the ball that could make the difference between no honor score and a honor score.

What I saw on the lanes: I started where I have been looking and standing with my DD Trick on the THS and I found the ball was way stronger then what I thought it would be, and also stronger than the Haywire that I loved on SPL and Brunswick surfaces. The mid lane read was just like my Haywire, but the front end and back end were stronger. The overall hook was stronger than any other HP3 balls in the past. 4 boards right more and 2-3 boards left at the break point on THS on SPL and 4-6 on HPL, due to more grit of surface. Once again, Roto Grip and @Roto_Schlem have out done themselves again.

Helios tested well on this very finicky oil pattern and lane panels. The Helios dug in the front of the pattern and still had a BIGGER kick then the OG Idol downlane. Compared it to the Electrify Solid and the OG Idol. Not volatile off the end of the pattern like other solids with low RG / High Diff blocks in them. I figured the "secret sauce" AKA "chemical charge" helps with added length and the stronger kick in the back end. Rolled BETTER once the lane shine set in on the cover. Keeping it clean with a shammy and leaving the lane shine on it.

By taking the highly proven "ROCK STAR" core the IKON and wrapping it with the eTRAX-19 cover with the first ever Sheen finish on a Roto Grip ball, gave a motion and carry off no other ball I have seen in a good bit from Roto Grip. low RG and High Diff on the IKON core allowed me to play in a "safer" part of the oil pattern and not have to worry about early hook like from the Idol or Evolve with out of the box finish. Very hard hitting in and around the pins, less deflection and would probably roll through the back part of the lane for another 10 feet if it wasn't for the lane curtain in the back. Best ball I have used since my accident in 2018 for league and a few tournaments I have bowled in recently. My "go to" ball all the time now.

Tech specs: eTrax hybrid – IKON core – 1500 grit polished
Needing to get my symmetric pieces down lane farther, this was the second ball I laid out with a really long pin to pap of 6 inches or more. Taking advice from the great minds at Roto Grip and Storm, I also changed the pitches in my fingers to lessen the amount I get “round” the ball and it truly shows on the lane and my scores recently. The Synergy provided that additional “POP” and angle down lane that the short pin to pap drillings I have used on the new ASYs and also on an Idol and Hustle INK. The Synergy fills in with my current arsenal where the other pearls have been to “flippy”. It still looks like an invisible leg is kicking it to the pocket and has a TON of hitting power. Where the Axiom Pearl was a little too angular for me with 1500 grit polish on it, the Synergy is what I need to keep up a great scoring pace in league and tournaments. This is now my benchmark ball and maybe for a good long time.

ROTO GRIP MVP - 45 x 3 1/2 x 55
Cover: VTC-H19 Hybrid
Core: Neutron NXT
Factory Finish: 1500 grit and polished
Flare: 4" plus
Test condition: Mo Pinel designed house pattern - HPL panels - Flex Machine
Comparing to the Hustle HSB that has a hybrid cover, the MVP motion was similar to about 40-42 feet, then that is where the core and cover took over, went a little longer to the breakpoint and responded better in the backend more so then HSB and over hybrids we have had in the HP1 and HP2 line up. Better overall performance and scoring then the HSB Hustle and similar balls from the past. Updating the Neutron Core from the Wrecker series was an excellent add to the HP2 line and will be a great benchmark ball for any level of bowler.

MVP Attitude - 80 x 2 1/2 x 25 - 1500 grit pad - VTC-H20 hybrid reactive coverstock
Testing condition: 44ft Mo Pinel created THS on older SPL (earlier 2000's).
What the leagues started up, I thought to drill this ball similar to my MVP that I used last year in the league. It was sanded to 2000 as I needed to slow up more in the front part of the lane. With the updated cover of VTC-H20 and the proven Neutron NXT core, this ball is actually stronger than my Wild Streak from the mid lane to the back end. Having the pin 2 1/2inches from my PAP kept the flare down and allowed a more consistent backend and roll on it. Did not jump off of the pattern like the OG MVP would even at 2000 grit. It has purple in the coverstock which even makes me happier! Will be a great benchmark ball like the IQ Tour Solid, or even the Idol!

Layout : 70 x 5 x 50

Ball specs: 1500 grit polished - VTC-P19 pearl / Neutron NXT

Using on older HPL with a Typical House Shot that has a BIG cliff on the backend, found that the ball stored more energy then my Hustle INK, but very close to the Hustle AU. The carry was much better with the MVP Pearl over the MVP and Hustle line, did have to open up the angles more then the Hustles and MVP on that pattern. The MVP Pearl was so much better on SPL with a house shot that had more 2 to 2's in the pattern and was much more blended on the backend of the pattern. Was able to use more of the outside of the track area and have more error room and did have less adjustments during the test and league play.

Roto Grip NO RULES
Layout: 45 x 4 7/8th x 45
Finish: 2000 grit
Condition: 42 ft. THS on older HPL with a KEGEL FLEX with Fire and Ice conditioners with Defense-C cleaner.
Test results compared to the Eternal Cell: The No Rules is “No Joke”, it covers more boards off the pattern that ANY BALL I have used in the past. With the great color selection on this ball, it is very easy to read the changes in the motion down lane, which makes it easier to make those minor adjustments. The No Rules was 6-8 boards stronger than the Eternal Cell, which to me was my best ball on THS this past season. Even after beating the pattern up with about 10 games, I only needed to make minor adjustments on the lane and approach, because I can read the ball motion so well. I squared up a little and look tighter in, and the ball still hooked a ton. Even with the amount of volume we have in the middle of our house pattern, it still hooked through it. A great ball if you are going to use on the larger volume THS, or on hard surfaces like Brunswick and HPL lane patterns. I know this is going to be the ball of the year. No Rules ball = No pins left standing.

What I like: Using a layout I had on the Sinister and Hyper Cell I figured to get a similar reaction. Smooth roll and not an overreaction in the backend. Actually, it was weaker in the backend then I expected, which was good me because my Show Off is stronger than I thought it was going to be. The deflection on the pin deck was a little higher than I thought it would be, could be the new pins Colony Park just put in. Found the Exist with this layout great for truly super wet / super dry back end conditions. I love to play left of center and being able to just have straighter path to the pocket then the having to play the whole lane, and this ball and layout allow me to. Even though this ball is a “HP4”, it’s versatile enough to be a benchmark ball for about anyone.

Reaction: Not my typical Asym ball reaction. I usually struggle to match up with Pearls with pin up or pin thru my ring finger. But in this case I listen to my good friends at Bowlers Supply and decided to try a mid length pin and conservative back angle. For me this ball went longer and less angular on both patterns then my Dare Devil with pin up. When I see my Dare Devil starting to hook a little earlier off of the pattern, my next move is to the NRP without any movement. Its longer and stronger but less of an angle into the pocket, which is something I have been working on thanks to Brad Angelo’s helpful tips last fall. This ball reminds me a lot of the Totally Defiant and the Mutant Cell Pearl, strong but not super angular and not super aggressive. Great THS ball for people bowling on HPL or older SPL. Sport pattern length best used on was 37ft to 44ft patterns. First ball out of the bag when I bowl anywhere outside of my home center…

With a lower RG and diff then the Wild Streak I was at awe that on SPL with the more blended and more volume pattern the ball did not quit in the heavier part of the pattern like other balls I have used with similar pearl coverstocks. Found it to be a better and stronger version of the original Cell Pearl and not as flippy as the Hyper Cell Pearl. I did drill this one with a higher front number and small pin to pap to add length before reaction and to cut down the flare due to I am still recovery from my accident 2 years ago. For sure my prior benchmark layout and ball selection has been changed since then, and when I know I will be bowling on Brunswick or newer SPL panels, the Nuclear Cell will be the first ball out of my bag.

Tech specs: Microtrax hybrid – RST core – 3000ab finish
Ball review: When layout out this ball I took into account how much more rev dominate I have become in the past 2 years. So with that we drilled a shorter pin to pap for me to help calm the ball down overall. Anything 3 ½ to 5 ½ pin to pap is way too strong for me for asymmetric cores since my accident over 2 years ago. During first night of league I found it to be really super smooth even with the 30 degree back angle. So I then practiced with it and did some videotaping of the reaction. I found the ball to be a tick strong then my Idol and Rubicon but not as strong as the UFO that has a little bit stronger pin to pap – 2in pin to pap compare to the RST-X1 with the 1 ½ in pin to pap. The new RST core is going to be a BIG hit because of the weight of the block is at the north and south points of the core, where other AYSs have a majority of their mass in more to the middle of the core, the RST will tumble more and provide even more length down lane. So for me, I will start on the fresh with the RST-X1, then when the back ends get tighter, I will set up to the UFO or Proton Physix.

Roto Grip RST X*2 - Layout: 50 x 7 x 50 - 1500 grit polished
Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL
The next evolution in ASY cores have gotten a new and exciting addition -- The RST X*2 !!!
After drilling two different laid out RST X*1s, I leaned towards drilling a longer pin to PAP for the X*2. So with that approach to layout, surface of the panels and patterns, I went for my first ever 7 inch P2P layout. Well, the ball retained a huge amount of energy, super clean in the middle and near the end of the pattern and a sweet angle into the pocket with attacking the pattern with open and closed angles. I was skeptical that having a longer than 6 inch pin would cause the ball to not have any recovery, but it was surprisingly strong with a good strong reaction. The roll reminded me of the Hyper Cell with a little weaker reaction. Will be a great replacement for bowlers looking to replace the Hyper Cells, UC2s, or Idol Pearls.

Roto Grip RST X-3: RST core with MicroTrax Hybrid cover stock with 4K fast /exceptionally light polish. The layout is 60 x 1 ½ x 65.
Currently using it on a 46ft THS that was a BIG cliff on the back of the pattern and not really blended well front to back and side to side. Super dry outside of 12 and super heavy conditioner between 16 to 16 across the boards.
Comparing it to the RST X-2, the movement is early in each part of the ball motion due to hybrid cover versus pearl cover, which is understandable and expected, BUT the main difference is that the X-3 still has a good bit of angle into the pocket, where the X-2 tends to be super over/under reaction because the pattern is not blended well. The X-1 had too much early movement and would lose most of its momentum because it would try to “dig in” too much in the front of the pattern and the heads. I changed the surface to 2000ab to see what the difference was and there really was not much difference in the movement, the ball does look better with the increased lane shine at 2000ab over weeks of using it. I call this core ASYS-LITE, because it is on the “lighter side” of ASYS cores out there and gives me a smoother reaction that other ASYS cores.

e-TRAX S20 coverstock with Rondure Core
This addition to the Roto Grip HP3 line was a great add! using my Idol and Idol Pro with motion holes, I found that the Rubicon to be a great replacement for my Idols that had motion holes. The "light" asym core with the very reliable e-TRAX cover was very readable in all aspects of the lane. Very close to my MVP attitude with a 2 1/2 pin to pap layout that I used. Can stay outside of the traffic I run into when bowling league with 3 other lefties. The Rubicon is very constant and stable throughout a night a league bowling and also in tournament play on patterns 40ft to 45ft. You can be speed dominate or rev dominate and the ball works for all styles of bowlers. The flares are nice and tight and that shows how consistent the ball reads the pattern with out giving up hitting power. Check out rotogrip.com for a video from the RG pro staff on how good this ball really is. It rolls like a Super Hero!

Roto Grip Rubicon UC - e-TRAX pearl coversotck - Rondure Core
1500ab grit with factory polish - layout 55 x 2 1/2 x 55
The next step in ball motion is here - the Roto Grip Rubicon UC2. The Rondure core is a edgy core design, making the core asymmetrical, but very close to a symmetrical after drilling.
On mine Bret at Bowlers' Supply laid it out to miss a majority of the spikes on the core to keep the integrity of the core in place.
Even with short pin layout, the ball still went down farther down lane then the Roto Grip Idol Synergy and the Nuclear Cell with longer pin layouts. The "wobble" that the ball produces allows it to pack a powerful punch off of the dry and packs power through the pin deck.
Used the ball on older HPL with a 44ft THS with a HUGE amount of volume and the ball rode through the front part of the pattern like a ninja sword slicing through watermelons. Best additional for a step up from the RST X-1 and the Idol Synergy.
Thanks to Bowlers' Supply, Inc and Vise Inserts for their continued support and teaching more about this awesome game of bowling!!!

Layout: 45 X 4 X 35 - 1000 grit from factory - enhanced to 3000 grit by hand
Test drive on SPL lane surface with 46ft THS with a Kegel ION lane machine
OK, It is not your average urethane bowling ball. The Rondure cover was designed to have a better ball motion than other ASYS cores with a weight hole like in the past. Adding the new Tour-ethane to this already impressive core design made a motion not seen in the past from other "strong" urethane balls. I did enhance the cover to 3000 grit during the testing and practice sessions I had with the UC-3, it was still a little early moving in the front part of the pattern, a couple shots almost when dead right off of my hand - OPERATOR error - not the ball's fault... :-)... PLay the ditch and pretty much straight up for me and did not lose any motion or pain carry throughout the sessions. Friend of mine also purchased one - he is WAY speed dominant and still was REALLY impressed by the overall motion of the ball during the course of the night on the lanes. He actually got BETTER carry than the other 2 balls he was using that night. He did leave his surface alone, unlike me who is REV dominant and speed deficient. Great overall ball for anyone's game and does look really COOL on the rack. LIke the UC-3 WAY better than the Pitch Purple. Nice 1 - 2 combo of urethane - the UC-3 and Pitch Black. Best to urethanes out there!!!

What I like:
Comparing to the Hy-Road solid, this ball read the lane a little later then I thought it and recovered ALOT stronger then I was anticipating. The transition in the roll was really quick, it did not labor like I had with the Fight, better overall reaction and was able to create a great down look with different hand positions. If you watch my you tube video, you will see several different entries into the pocket with the ball. Very versatile ball for a mid level performance ball. I tried it on the Tower of Piza and Statue of Liberty and the ball worked really well. This is a nice step down from my Roto Grip No Rules Exist pin up, which I was missing in my current sport pattern arsenal.

My specs: Ball speed 15+, Rev rate 425, PAP 4 and up 13/16
Layout: 70 x 5 ½ x 55 – surface at 2000-grit Abralon
The latest Roto Grip release has everyone blowing up the racks of pins with it. Using an idea from an earlier core design, Roto Grip R&D crew came up with the Torpex core. Which added a sphere just above the equator of the core, which in short terms allows less deflection when going through the pins. Using a revised version of e-Trax Plus coverstock has a solid version of it, the OG e-Trax Plus coverstock was a pearl version on the Roto Grip RST-X2, which is more forgiving no matter how you roll the ball, or how you drill it. For pro shop crews its very driller friendly. Great all-round solid reactive coverstock. While running Storm Matchmaker events that included the TNT, I noticed that the TNTs that are in the set started rolling and hitting better after the covers got line shine on them. I usually will touch up the coverstocks on the solid reactive balls in the Matchmaker sets, but I left the TNTs alone seeing how they started to roll better over time. While using my personal TNT, the same thing occurred, once the cover got lane shine on it, the ball was pure MONEY! My long practice session that I used the TNT, DNA, and iQ Ruby, it was quite surprising that the TNT helped up as the lanes transitioned during the session. I videotaped early and late in the session with the TNT and with just minor feet and angle adjustments, the TNT kept striking and striking. Best solid reactive I have used in years at a center that has SPL. Could never get the solid covers to recover enough over the course of the league or tournaments at that center. They would great on fresh, but would sizzle out after a few games, but the TNT I was able to use throughout the whole league night and also tournament settings.

Using on the older HPL with the less blended pattern it was stronger and more angular then the Wild Streak. The UFO came more into play when I got into games 4, 5, and 6 during a recent tournament where the Wild Streak started to weaken due to carry down, the UFO pick up where the Wild Streak left off. The ball was more suited for me on fresh house pattern on SPL with more blend in the pattern. Was able to adjust more on SPL then the HPL, just showing how the surface of the lane panels can create such different looks in the mid lane and roll area in the back end. A good strong step up from the Wild Streak.

Finish: 1500-grit polished
Layout: 4.5 x 5 x 2
Testing on a 43ft THS with recent changes to the amount of reverse oil to help calm down the early hook that the center's lane panels have, I found the UFO Alert getting further down the lane then the Dark Code and Roto Grip UC2 I compared it with to see where it will fit in my bag for the upcoming bowling season in that center. I have struggled to score there the past year and half because the pattern hooked so early and strong for me, my ball speed was down to 13.5 mph and my rev rate was still around 475. So I really struggled to combat that and tried drilling a little of everything from Tropical Storms - yes - OLD SCHOOL Tropicals, Idols, IQ's, stronger stuff like Nuclear Cells and similar stronger ASYMS. With the UFO Alert with the coaching assistance of Hank Boomershine, was able to increase ball speed to close to 17 off the lane again and found the UFO and Rubicon were not strong enough down the lane. With the UFO Alert with a stronger layout then what I have been using, the UFO Alert held up from the first shot down the lane to the last shot over 50 minutes later of practice on the same lane. As the pattern broke down I found it better to move LEFT - instead of the natural progression for left handers like me to move right and move my eyes and mark further down the lane to control the back end. I struck more than I deserved with the UFO Alert. Cannot wait to start league in this center with the UFO Alert the first ball on the rack

Using on SPL with a more blended pattern, this ball was a HUGE strike machine. Was able to play around the other 3 lefties, by moving to 35 and looking at 10-12 in the breakpoint area. Ball was medium in length strength but still very good going through the pins. Similar results were found on the older HPL with less blended pattern, with using the same starting point, but changing the breakpoint area to be around boards 5-7 and moved my eyes further down lane so that the ball roll even later. Will be my solid benchmark ball for a long time I feel.

Reaction: Being a pearl I stuck to my pin down layout and actually it needed a little surface adjustment for my “eyes” to like the motion down lane. I can now play left of the typical lefty track area and not worry about not having enough ball in my hand like The Hustle line that I love to use on wood and older HPL which is what we have at the center I work and bowl at. The Hustle POW is my favorite of the bunch and if in practice, which one is going too far down lane before it starts the reaction, I been pulling out the Wreck It and had better reaction. But having that touch more pearl in it, the length is a few inches longer and more energy being stored which leaves less corner pins for me. When I need to use something on newer HPL I like to use this Wreck’Em as my first choice out the bag. With pin down it starts a little sooner and does not hydroplane like my other pearls do on it. Great ball to be the middle piece of your 3 ball arsenal or the 2nd ball out of your 4 ball arsenal.

Test results comparing to the Eternal Cell: The Wreck-It had about the same amount of overall hook as the Eternal Cell, and overall it performed very closely to it. It is 5-6 boards stronger than the Hustle SAY that has the same cover, but weaker core. It’s amazing how much difference the core makes a difference with this coverstock. The ball did labor a little when playing deep inside without swing the whole lane, I believe it was due to amount of volume the THS that I bowl on has. The ball worked the best just outside the track area and responded really well even after the oil was moved around and pushed down lane. I bowled a few games on a house pattern that was lighter in volume and length, and this would be the main ball I would use in that center. Does well on light to medium level of oil on the THS. Great ball for people with slower ball speeds and people that enjoy playing like a stroker or a tweener. The Wreck-It has it covered for you.

As I stated earlier, I changed the surface because I noticed with the new Sentinel core and updated R2S coverstock – that the ball was a little late in reaction when I tried to swing the lane as much as I could, which is something I normally would have to do with strong asymmetrical balls like the Astro Physix, Parallax, and the Code series. Both the brains at Storm Bowling found that if you put evenly weight parts on the core at both ends, to me, that would cause the cover to remain unstable almost like if you added a weight puck on the core. By updating the very successful R2S with the DEEP update, which basically means that Storm made the cover for consistence because they made the additives all equal and balanced in amounts used. (More technical information at stormbowling.com) Back to on the regularly scheduled ball review, sorry – Got a little nerdy there! I realized watching a wide range of styles using the Storm Absolute during several Storm Matchmaker events, that the straighter you played, the better the Absolute worked and produced better overall carry and striking percentages. So, at a demo, I used the pro shop’s ball spinner and hit the surface with a fresh 2000ab pad and proceeded to play very straight up the track on the SPL that was there. The Absolute was no joke on worn out, beat up, no fresh oil in 2 days lanes that I practiced and bowled on a few days later. I was still able to play very straight forward up the track area and the Absolute moved a little earlier than the Exotic GEM and with a little more angle into the pocket. I feel that if you try to “hook” the whole, this ball would not be a good fit as a middle road/ “benchmark” ball. Like I said a little bit earlier – the straighter you play, the better the Storm Absolute is. The Absolute will travel with me in my tournament bag as ball #4 in the strength department. I hope you found this interesting and informative.

After seeing how the Evolve read early, with the All-Road having NRG in the coverstock, I polished for the testing, due to current lane pattern and volume across the pattern. Had the same length as my PRO-Motion, but less aggressive in the breakpoint area and less angle entering the pocket but still produced better pin carry due to having a thicker cover on the ball. Could play straighter and less angle and also play super deep, nose bleed area for a lefty like me and open up the angles and the lanes for myself. Great additional to the legendary line of Hy-Roads...

Storm Alpha Crux
Layout: 40 x 3 5/8 x50
Coverstock: 2000ab box – tested at 3000ab
Lane conditions: 42 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s. And newer SPL and HPL using different conditioners and machines from Kegel
Test results: This is the best ball in the PREMIER line from Storm, it takes the GI-16 coverstock and match it the very strong and favorable Catalyst core to make the “perfect” heavy oil ball. I love using this ball on the late shift or as mine transition ball after an oil push has developed on the left side of the lane for me or by me. Not a piece I would recommend to be used on really gritty lane panels or on wood, this ball needs OIL and a boot bit of it. Almost everybody wants a ball to go coast to coast, and this is it, A lot of good motion midlane and downlane, not like the original Crux which hooked for me way too early, and did not have enough energy stored. To me, this ball is like the original Roto Grip Cell, but with some “protein” added to it. This ball worked really well on newer HPL and SPL lane panels with 42-44ft oil pattern using Fire Oil. On the older HPL, it works better with the Fire and Ice oil with the FLEX machine than actual ION with just Ice oil being used. It’s save a punch for the backend unlike other solid reactives that are current on the market from other brands. If you want a ball that will travel thru the THS oil and still pack a strong punch, the Alpha is the ball for you.

What I liked: I liked that you could really identify the change in direction and also, the hitting and “staying” power of the ball all the way through the pin deck. The flare was a little less than I thought it would be, but it even made me happier seeing the ball finish like it did in the backend part of the lane, which on the fresh THS is was great. Once I seen the ball start to carry down lane a little longer, I woud just close my angles down a smige instead of going up with a stronger piece. Great all around THS or tournament benchmark ball that packs a brutal punch through the pins.

The next generation of pearl reactive has arrived! I found this ball to rev up quicker then even a Hyroad Pearl and went through the midlane like a rocket ship and hit the pins like they were toothpicks - that was my first reaction when bowling on newer SPL with a 46 ft house pattern with a bunch of 2 to 2's built into the pattern. I usually "struggle" to be consisent on getting the ball to stay in the pocket area because the conditioner moves around so much at this center with other pearl reactives with symmertic cores and Asys are way too strong to recover after a few games on the pair of lanes. Rolled better with 2000 grit done by hand on my second 6 games with it. I will keep it at 2000 grit because it was just a little more controllable after the pattern broke down. The NeX pearl coverstock is the real deal. Stop by our local Matchmaker and give it a try. Axiom Pearl with not disappoint you.

Test results: Super long and super angular, WOW… The ball went so long, I worried that it would not get time to recover and it did. Longest ball I ever seen go down the lane before reacting, even with having squeaky clean and crisp backends. Took it a center that I have issues in the past of everything hooking earlier and this ball did not let me down. Stronger and more recovery then I ever seen, this ball will be a primary piece for me for all sport patterns of 40ft or more. Very versatile inside and outside of my normal track areas. I am glad that Storm decided to release this in the North America market.

44ft THS on Kegel Ice oil on older HPL surface
Ball at BOX surface – 1500 grit polished
What I Like: I tested on fresh THS and THS that had about 10 games on the left hand side of the lane. I found on fresh, that even how “strong” this ball is, it was more predictable then the Code Black, and did not develop over / under like the Black did as my test session went on. I noticed that the ball reaction and ball angle was not that much different on the burn THS and I could stay consistent with speed and release and did not have to tinker around much. Did notice the ball does carry better for me when the oil is starting to carry down. I feel this cover and core is a very good fit for REV dominant player like me. The ball is RED HOT!!! #StormNation #IAmStormProud Roto_Schlem#SquadRG

The Storm CODE X is the latest Asymmetric ball added to the Premier Line. Using the lightweight RAD4 core and the proven R2S solid cover stock allows to add this to an already impressive line from Storm. I got to chance to demo this ball and then drilled one for myself shortly after that. Bowled on 45ft THS a few nights before my car accident, which is why this is a little delayed in getting reviewed by me. Since I am pretty close to a “spinner” I have my drilled with a 5 inch pin to help it get down the lane, which did help compared to my Sure Lock with a 3 ¾” pin layout. Did notice earlier and cleaner movement in the mid-point of the lane then a similar drilled CODE RED, but did save a good bit more energy in the back end for me then the SURE LOCK with notable better pin carry. Matching the core and cover was really a match made in heaven for any bowler that bowls in scratch tournaments and also heavy oil house conditions no matter what surface the lanes are.

The final ball added to my new 14lbs. arsenal is the Storm Crux Prime. Drilled for SPL and Brunswick lane panels I have been practicing on since my return to the sport a few weeks ago since my accident last year. I started with weaker stuff and working my way up to stronger stuff and found that this ball was WAY too much on the THS I bowled on normally. My home center is older HPL and a hard cliff at the end of the pattern, there is 2 other centers I like to bowl at and one has newer SPL and the other has really new Brunswick panels. With the RA value of the SPEC cover, it cuts through all the heavier oil and still has plenty of energy left to recover on the backends. To see conditioner sit on this ball for several seconds and it NOT soak into it was COMPLETELY amazing. Best heavy oil ball I have used in a while that has not diminished in performance over the past 30 games I have used it.

Testing on a 43ft THS with recent changes to the amount of reverse oil to help calm down the early hook that the center's lane panels have, I first found it quite challenging on the fresh to develop a good clean look, a little earlier hook then I was expecting, but once the pattern started to develop a little push of oil down lane, the overall performance of the ball became quite amazing. More control without losing any carrying power through the pins. Went to another center that has newer SPL with a longer length house pattern and found the Dark Code worked so much better on the fresh. The DARK CODE did not over hook on the pattern like similar balls I used in that same house. I tend to have over / under there when using benchmark balls like Idols and stronger ASYMS like The Nuclear Cells in this center and seemed to always be "between" balls. I found a great ball to use in this center at the start of this coming bowling season and it is the DARK CODE

My new ball review on the Storm Bowling DNA.

Layout: 55 x 2 1/2 x 35 at box condition of 2000 grit Abralon.
Supercoil core with the new EXO solid reactive coverstock.

Tested and used on older HPL and newer SPL at two local bowling centers, Colony Park Lanes and Hanover Bowling Centre.
Practiced for over 2 hours with the DNA, the Storm iQ Ruby, and Roto Grip TNT. Was able to use the DNA on the fresh conditions and when I beat up the pattern with these three different balls.
The Supercoil core is very potent when it comes to performance of getting the ball down the lane without pushing the ball too far down the lane. The new coverstock - EXO solid reactive is an intense solid reactive coverstock because of the chemical reaction when the material goes from a liquid form to a solid. The reaction is called: exotherm. For me the DNA was a HUGE step up from the other reactive solid I am currently using, the Roto Grip TNT, the motion off the pattern was stronger and bigger movement the TNT. The DNA did not quit on me at any point during my practice sessions and in league. I cannot believe this ball is this GOOD!.
The surface has held up very well on the demo balls in the Storm Matchmaker set I have used over the past few months. Easy to keep clean and is a great choice for any level and style of bowlers out there. Please see your local pro shop for your new ball!

Storm Electrify G/O pearl
Specs: Reactor Pearl coverstock with the Circuit core finished with Reacta Gloss from Storm
Layout: 5.5 x 4.5 x 3.5.

With my current level of ability, weaker cores and pearlized covers are still my best choices for league bowling matches.

The “G/O” was a good addition to my league match bowling ball arsenal. The house I bowl in has lanes in the middle part of the center that read and hook early while the higher end tends to play longer and tighter. So to compare, I used a Roto Grip Hyped Pearl that was 4k fast out of the box, but I change the surface by putting it into the shop’s Storm factory machine and using fresh VISE 1000ab and then 2000ab pads, then added Storm Reacta Gloss and polished it for 2 minutes, which got the surface prep closer to the G/O. First thing I noticed that the G/O goes a little shorter before making the transition from skid to the hook stage then the Hyped Pearl, it motion was a little earlier then what I expected playing my typical line and angles I used with the Hyped Pearl and my most loved Hyped Hybrid. G/O had a better overall reaction on fresh conditions, after the conditioners traveled down lane, the ball tended to get a little lazy. The BETTER news is how the ball rolled on another center I bowl with really well “worn” HPL with less oil volume, but longer overall length of pattern. I have struggled there most of the year with either rolling too weak stuff or so strong stuff that the ball will react at the 1-2 pocket - YES… I am a lefty for those that don’t know. The G/O held up for me for most of the practices and league matches. I feel the G/O is a better entry level reactive ball then anything else out there on the market. Stronger than Tropical Surge line, but not as angular or snappy as the Hyroads, or Fate or similar stronger symmetrical When clients and other what ball would be best for a once a week bowler and they want reliability , I direct them to the Storm Electrify G/O on the wall.

Testing condition- 44ft Mo Pinel created THS on older HPL with Kegel Ikon lane machine
The latest addition to the Storm's HOT line adds something to the line that was missing, a lower RG light weight core with the proven Reactor Hybrid coverstock. I decided to drill this because I thought it would be not a skid / flip as some of the Match Ups I drilled. Found it to have great length and a strong entry into and thru the pins. Needed something to go a tick longer but not as strong in the backend and not to be to angular into the pocket. The surface with box finish matched well with the older SPL, will change the surface when I get onto newer HPL when I start bowling the Tuesday league to start with and then move to something stronger like the Trend.

I drilled it to be used on shorter patterns and for a center I sub at that has HPL on the heads and great looking wood in the backends. I found that this layout and ball selection was great on Boardwalk and the shorter White pattern. Was able to play up the gutter and in the dirt and the ball did not hook up early like I expected it to with such a short front number. This brought me back some good memories seeing this ball react very similar to one of my old favorites - the Horizon from Roto Grip. If you are looking for that ball that helps you on shorter patterns or on wood lanes this will be a great ball to add to your weekly league bag.

My first thoughts: OH CRAP, a solid that will burn up at the arrows for me on any pattern or lane surface. Well, atleast is smells GREAT in the Santa Fe on the way home from bowling.
My actual results: Well, I stayed "positive" when trying the Electrify Solid out with the layout that Bret at Bowlers Supply would suit my needs. Found even with the 2 inch pin the ball did not pick up early like I imagined it would, actually worked super well on SPL and played relative outside of 12 across the arrows and held energy all the way through the patterns. Reminded me of the old Roto Grip Riot I had so many years ago, in the way the motion is smooth rolling through the heads, and very smooth but yet strong in the backend. Will drill another one with a longer pin to PAP with a little more "kick" in it to get the motion on the backend a little more stronger.

I LOVE this urethane ball!!! I had problems with the Pitch Black not having and recovery in the backend for me, it would be all "used" up for me when bowling on lighter volume patterns that are less then 40 ft. The Purple was better when getting through the front part of the lane and much better in the reaction in the back end, then comes along the FAST PITCH - I first changed the surface to 2000 grit with a ball spinner and found it very useful on 3 different patterns and closing the angles down to the breakpoints by keep the ball track between 12 to 6 on 37ft, 38ft and 39ft "adjusted" house patterns that we use for practice sessions for junior bowlers and sport shot bowlers. I used it on league 2 weeks ago for the first 2 games and used the Utah pored Hustle INK in the 3rd and it was the second best set I has all year so far. It will be the first ball out of my bag when I sub at another center that has HPL fronts and wood in back end. Very great choice also for some elderly bowlers that reactive covers are WAY too much for. Check your local pro shops to see when the Fast Pitch demo balls are there and give them a chance to impress you.

I was chopping at the bits waiting for this ball since I wanted something to replace my 900 Global Wolverine that served me quite well for several months. I used a little stronger overall layout over the Wolverine because I started to bowl more and more at a center with SPLs that are well maintained and well cared for. Well, Storm and Belmo came out swinging with this latest signature release. I really love the overall and readable reaction, and I can see more bowlers using the Storm FATE over any other of the signature releases. Of all the newer releases, this has become a favorite for me fast. It has a little later angle entry then my trusted Hyped Hybrid, but not shockingly hard like the Phaze V with Reacta Gloss. I feel that the Reacta Gloss bonds very well to the ReX coverstock. I found myself using the FATE more and more in practice and league matches because the ball just works well on all stages of the pattern breakdown, if the track area starts burning up, I don’t have to make major changes, I will move left and go more direct and using a breakpoint farther down the lane instead of changing to a different ball. The Storm FATE has actually taught me how to play the lanes better during the course of a match, practice or even fun bowling with friends. The Storm FATE has been heavily used during the Storm Matchmakers events that I have been a part of or had the privilege to run and coordinate. The Storm FATE is a solid piece for any level of bowler and any type of lane surface and pattern. Don’t test FATE and go visit your local pro shop and drill up the Storm Fate and start striking like Belmo does.

This being my first ball review since my accident, I felt I needed to start with one of the 3 balls I have been using since I was released to start bowling again. Comparing to the Pitch Blue and Pitch Black, the core and cover combo allows the ball to have more length and more angle into the pocket, and with my current slower ball speed than in the past, this ball is great on fresh for me, unlike the other "Pitches" I can stay in the same breakpoint area almost all 3 games of league, the ball does tend to tip a little heavy for me off the breakpoint, more then the Pitch Blue which is needed to enter the pocket it better. Great ball for slower ball speed bowlers on THS and lighter and shorter sport patterns.

During first test session, with the new oil pattern, 2000 grit created a little longer length then the ProMotion, but still read quickly, due to lack of blend and a larger drop off at the end of the pattern. Polished it and that changed the length that was I was looking for. Keep the pins low, and very active across the pin deck. Deeper with feet and less angle down lane to get the ball to stay straighter and save energy was the way to go. Love it Polished!!! waited so long for this ball and I was not disappointed at all.

On older HPL panels with super wet fronts and sparky backends I practice and bowl league on 1 night a week the reaction was a little calmer then I though it would be. I attended several ball demos where this ball was a BEAST . I decided to enhance the coverstock to 5000ab grit to make the ball float on the front part of the pattern and not burn up in the front part of the lanes like my Axiom did with the same NeX cover and similar layout. The ball ultra smooth in the transition part of the lane and silky through the pin deck. Very predictable with the NeX coverstock at 5000ab. The next generation of HyRoad is here and it strikes to the MAX!!!

On the THS in recent weeks, the ball performed really well. I like the early movement off of the pattern on either the 44ft or 46ft THS on HPL I bowl on, this ball is a BIG for me. I cannot believe the difference between these balls, the NANO versus the Hy-Road solid. The solid would roll out and not recover as strong as the NANO, I am talking about HUGE hook off of the pattern. The NANO does not quit regardless of the amount of conditioner or how long the pattern is. On SPL, I was expecting the ball to roll up and out by the end of the pattern, but I did not. I really think I found the perfect ball to use at the center I bowl in that has SPL as the lane surface. I struggle there because I usually have too weak of stuff or too strong of stuck to be consistent there. Really looking forward to plenty of great matches there in the upcoming weeks.

This is by far the most technically advanced bowling ball I ever owned . As relayed by Alex Hoskins in his youtube video about the Tensor core with the different layers allow the core to have higher RG areas closer to the surface and the low points producing lower RG areas. With doing a 2 inch P2P layout, Bret at Bowlers' Supply able him to leave more of the rounded peaks undisturbed allowing the ball to save energy downlane and not slow down too early like a symmetric ball with a 2 inch P2P layout. The R4S cover adds more power downlane then the R2S has produced in the past. The R4S cover does take cover changes very well. From 500 grit to 4000 grit. I decided to take it back down to 3000 grit because it suited the pattern best over the course of several games. Compared to a Proton Physix, the incite is longer and stronger from the foul line to the pit. Will keep this one in the ball arsenal for a good long time.

Layout: 40 x 3 ¾ x 45
Testing info: 43ft THS from KEGEL MARK and on older HPL with Brunswick A-2 machines
Results: To start off, the very first game was a 300 game, so I am in love with this ball. The overall reaction of the ball was phenomenal. It sounds different when hitting the pins and the RAD-E core. The “E” stands for ENERGY as the elongated ellipses near the pin increase the separation of mass as well as the potential energy. The core demonstrates how the moving the 2 round modules towards the pins helps to create and “hold” energy in the ball. RS3 cover does match really great with this core design. Not as long as a Code Black, but more destructive when it hits the pins. Having a number of scratch and tournament level bowlers watching me demo the wall they all agreed that the ball sounds different when it hits the pins… I had no over / under issues even though with my tilt and rev rate I tend to have that type of reaction on this THS at Colony Park Lanes. A truly INTENSE ball for all levels of bowlers.

Ball: IQ Tour 30th Anniversary ball
Layout: 50 x 4 ½ x 50
Surface: BOX condition
COVERSTOCK: R2S™ Pearl Reactive
WEIGHT BLOCK: C³™ Centripetal Control Core
FACTORY FINISH: 1500-grit Polished

Ball testing results:
What I found this this ball it did not hydroplane on the ICE conditioner like the GOLD ball did for me. The Gold ball had longer skid length for me and more angle entering the pocket, almost too much at times. The IQ 30th had less hydroplaning on the ICE conditioner, and still kept A LOT of energy. The carry and the way the pins get knocked around is truly unlike I have ever seen. The closest for me was the Infinite Theory from a few years ago. The way the ball reads and reacts on different surface was also “unique”, on the harder surfaces, I usually get over under due to my tilt and release, and with this ball, and I had none. The ball is very adaptive and may be the BEST ball overall in 7 and almost 8 years as a staff member. I have talked about the Haywire being the best solid reactive ball on the market and NOW I think the IQ 30th is the BEST pearl ball on the market… Industry WIDE, when I see other companies’ staffers telling me how good the ball looks, I am quite honored and proud. Storm has definitely in Grand Slam with this ball… Please stop by your local Pro Shop that has this ball to be “test driven” and you will see what I am talking about.

Layout: 40 x 3 ¾ x 50 with Storm Reacta Gloss finish
My specs: Ball speed 15+, Rev rate 425, PAP 4 and up 13/16
While testing and using in a league setting, I found the Storm iQ Ruby to have a similar reaction to my Roto Grip Hyped Pearl. Fits well as a pearl benchmark ball for about every bowler out there. With the proven core of the C³™ Centripetal Control Core and the ever so popular R2S™ Pearl Reactive coverstock. Using it on a fresh house pattern at Colony Park Lanes it was very predictable, read the pattern quite well and rolled it on the fresh and then after I used up the pattern with the new Roto Grip TNT and new Storm DNA, even with the carry down, the iQ Ruby still had a good reaction where other pearls I have used would had skidded through the carry down. My practice session was over 2 hours and from start to finish the iQ Ruby held up very well. I will say that comparing my notes on the iQ Emerald and iQ Gold, the Ruby fits right between them. As I remembered, my Gold tended to hyper skid and not recover, and the Emerald rolled up a smidge earlier. The iQ Rubys that are in the demo sets I have used and seen have held up remarkably well with the Reacta Gloss on them. The iQ ruby is the first Reacta Gloss finished ball that I kept at the OG box condition.

Joy Ride Review:
Layout: Over the label pin up and center of grip line
Surface: Box condition
Lane condition: 41ft THS with ICE oil using the latest FLEX machine and older HPL lanes.

Testing results: Since the center switch the cleaner from 7:1 ratio to 4:1 ratio, the track area and towards the gutter on both sides have instant and early hook. The Loco and Loco Pearl were actually a little too strong for the first game without changing a lot with hand positions or what part of the lane I was playing. So, I drilled up a Joy Ride label and pin up, and the ball is amazing on drier lanes and shorter patterns. I like the ball transition down lane better the Loco Pearl, its smoother and hits harder, but more me, it reads the lane better than the Ride did. I love this ball on fresh wet/dry and when I need to play straight, this ball is very predictable and I am confident when I use it.

Lock Review:
Layout: 50 x 3 1/2x 60
Surface: 2000Ab with Storm Factory Polish
Lane condition: 41ft THS with ICE oil using the latest FLEX machine and older HPL lanes.
Started with out of box surface and the ball was reacting early and strong in the mid lane, I hand polished it and what a difference that way. The ball read the front and mid part of the excellently, and the reaction off of the pattern was still strong and still produced completely AWSEOME pin carry and keep the pins jumping from side to side. I was able to play pretty straight inside of the track area on the left side of the lane and was able to still get great carry and the ball never labored even with the super heavy volume of conditioner between 15l and 15r that my center uses on the house pattern. This ball takes service adjustment really well and for an asymmetrical ball it is not “over” powering like most of them on the market. I like the color combination because it is easy to see the ball transition of the lanes VERY well. If you need that ball that is strong but steady, then get “LOCKED IN” with the LOCK.

Coverstock: 2000ab
Lane conditions: 42 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s.
Test results: For a lower mid-entry ball, it really packs a very strong hook overall, even being dull, it started a little later then a Shout sanded from the past Roto Grip line and still had plenty of hitting power. The ball reacted very similar to my HyRoad solid I had in the past, which really surprised me. Playing the gutter isn’t a problem with this ball, nor getting into 4th and 5th arrow. Even with the mid lane and back end recover is awesome. Having the reactor coverstock on the stinger core is a “match” made in heaven. I think the cover is more suited for this core, then over Cruiser core. The Ride and Joy Ride were a little too weak for my liking, so I am a happy camper with the Match and Match Pearl.

Lane conditions: 42 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s.
Test results: For a lower mid-entry pearl ball this ball does take the cake against all on comers and actually a few balls price point higher then this Match Pearl. I wanted a pearl that would be able to play the extreme outer part of the lane when I need to “go around” everyone else. I tired the Loco Pearl and the Joy Ride with decent results, but with the Reactor Pearl cover and the stinger core, its perfect match for what I am looking for. Being used exclusively in a 5 person “competitive” league, I enjoy knowing that I can get away from all the traffic in the track area and towards the center of the lane. One thing the ball really loved was a few games on older wood and where everyone else’s balls were hooking at the arrows, my winning combo of the Match and Loco Pearl allow me to put a lot of pins between me and the rest of the bowlers.

REACTOR HYBRID COVERSTOCK - 1500 GRIT POLISHED - CLOSER TO 4" FLARE
LANE INFORMATION: 42FT THS ON HPL INSTALLED IN EARLY 2000'S
Since returning to bowling since my accident 15 months ago, I drilled out "weaker" balls due to rebuilding my speed and arsenal to 14lbs, I though the Match Up BRB would be a great ball to be my new benchmark ball. Comparing it to the past Match Ups, The ball was less over under then the original Match Up for me on the fresh but just as predictable when and as the pattern broke down. Better ball for slower ball speed people that are matched with their rev rate. I felt more comfortable using the ball inside of 15 at the arrows, and breakpoint about 5-6 board and keeping the ball speed around 13.7 TO 14.2… Great ball for mid performance ball for the money...

Testing info: 43ft THS from KEGEL MARK and on older HPL with Brunswick A-2 machines
Results: Looking for the ultimate “mellow” piece to play inside and up 3rd arrow on THS and I found the key piece. Everything else I drilled for this type of lane play was always too weak or too strong. Match Solid would be too weak hitting the pocket and left more than a fair share of corner pins because it would not quite have an enough energy to carry or have enough entry angle to kick the pins around. The pearl version worked great as an “in” the track THS ball, but when I needed that up the 3rd arrow ball, the ball traveled too far down the pattern for any amount of good reaction. The Stinger 2.0 Core offers more flare potential and hook than the original version of this core line. Great ball for an entry level league bowler to start off with or a scratch or tournament bowler that once that real “go to” ball the Match Up Hybrid is PERFECT…

What I like: The ball worked really well inside of the worn track area and also outside the track area. The ball was less over under then the original Match Up for me on the fresh but just as predictable when and as the pattern broke down. In the hands of another lane hander, that is more direct player then I am with the same speed and less rev rate, it really worked well for him over his current mid performance pearl ball. It stored energy quite well through the pocket and did not leave corner pins as much as he was getting with his other ball. His other ball, on “good” shots, 6 out of 10 left a 7 pins and with the Match Up Pearl, it was cut down to 2 out of 10 left 7 pins. Pin carry was greatly increased for him and me with this Match Up Pearl. Better ball for slower ball speed people that are matched with their rev rate. I found that I had to change my hand position to help the ball recover in the backend on the burn when playing my normal shot in the track area. I felt more comfortable using the ball inside of 13 at the arrows and keeping the ball speed around 15 -15.4… Great ball for mid performance ball for the money. What I like: What is not to like… Solid cover, mid- strength core and polish. The ball matches really well for me for light to medium oil and shorter sport and challenge patterns. The first ball out of my bag at a few houses that are wood or ½ and ½ that I bowl and compete at. It slows down enough in the front part of the lane, but still retains all the hitting power in the back end. Use it in a doubles league where I don’t have a lot of play on the left side of the lanes and really don’t have to move much throughout the 4 game matches. The ball is: smooth, hits really hard in the pocket and very easy to maintain the performance over the course of ownership. Recommend this ball to all once a week league or new league bowlers. I picked the surface change due to the lane conditions and
Type of lane surface I bowl on.
The Storm Nova was a great addition to line up a few weeks ago, and I had a grip and pitch changes thanks to Staff Manager Mike Sinek to get use to before I drilled another Nova and drill up new stuff. (I don’t like plugging balls; I donate them right to the juniors in my area). I found with the Nova with box surface a little bit early in movement when coming off of the pattern than my other recent hybrid coverstock balls. So, I ran the gauntlet of grits from 360, 500, 800, 1000, 1500,2000,3000,4000 and 5000, and was able to speed up the ball in the front part of the pattern, which in turn saved additional energy, but still was enough of RA valve on the cover to make a strong recovery and not “skate” through the back part of the lane. The ball fits great between my Roto Grip GEM and Roto Grip Hyped Pearl. With the cover as it has been prepped reminds A LOT of the Roto Grip Idol Magenta. If you still looking for that great MID strength bowling ball for the upcoming tournaments and next season, look no farther than the Storm NOVA.

Results: This was much stronger then what my prior Cruxes. I actually moved right to about 30 and look at the bottom of the 4 pin to make the ball stay in the pocket. The ball works well on a THS with SPL roll a little early on HPL and less blended THS. Apollo Strong!!! I used this ball more of the 40ft Kegel flex pattern and found the ball roll better inside of the track area and where the oil was heavier and longer. This ball will suit those players that bowl on the harder lane surfaces like SPL, Pro-lane and Anvilane on the longer house patterns and needs a set up from the IQ Tour or Phaze II.

Coverstock: TractionX7 Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Aeroflo Asymmetric Core
With the Aeroflow core with the Hybrid reactive cover stock I found the ball with the above layout very strong overall on our typical house pattern, it was very aggressive in the backend, when moving to a center with SPL with a longer oil pattern the ball matched up much better. Haven't had a ball this aggressive on the back end since the Virtual Energy. Once I adjusted the surface to slow the ball up in the front part of the lane, I felt more comfortable with the ball on older HPL with have at my main practice and league center. Was very confident using it between 5th and 6th arrow and getting the ball to recover with a good bit of energy getting to the pins. Great heavy oil ball and takes cover changes very nicely.

Cover: TractionX7 Pearl Reactive

Finish: 1500 grit Polished
Layout: 60 x 6 x 60

What Did I See: Know that I experienced a TON of over/under with the first Parallax, I consulted with Bret Stabley @ Bowlers' Supply and we decided on a 6 inch P2P with a weaker angle for the backend to combat that. Upon suing on lanes that were bowled on most of the ball, the Parallax Effect was super good, and roll very similar to my Axiom Pearl with a 5 inch P2P. What the main difference I saw was the overall length off the end of the pattern, where the Parallax would either hook quickly, or skate all the way to the pins and the motion was a tad later then the Axiom Pearl. Smoother through the pin deck and more noticeable carry also.
On newer HPL with a good amount of head oil and less of a cliff at the back end of the pattern and also using the Fire and Ice conditioners, I changed the surface to 5000 ab and the Effect blended the pattern more then the original Parallax where I could get no reaction because the Parallax would just hydroplane on the front of the pattern and never got a chance to change directions or "dig in" the conditioner and be more reliable. The Parallax Effect was able to slow down enough in the front part of the lane to have change of the direction off of the pattern. The more the lineage on the lanes, the better the Parallax Effect performed. I would not use it as a primary ball, but would use in situations where its on later into a block of games or where the left side of the pattern is asymmetric like some sport patterns are becoming.

Props to Vise Inserts for great products and Bret@ Bowlers' Supply, Inc for all the assistance over the past several years with my game, and of course, everyone at SPI for allowing me to be the man known as Roto Grip Rick.

A little bit of over / under and once the conditioners broke down a little bit, this ball turn the corner like a Dodge Hellcat. With removing the polish and putting the ball at 3000 grit, the ball work better on the fresh. I compare this ball to the IQ 30 with a stronger back end. The ball controlled the mid lane and make the reaction very predictable, but very strong. I use this ball more in centers where there are older lane panel and have a grittier panel surface.

Test results: The ball hooked more than expected in the backend, like 3-4 boards more that my Marvel S or original Marvel. The core and combo suits me better than the PHAZE, the ball has a TON of hook and the motion is great midlane and down lane. I put 5000 3-M on it to smooth it up a little and it tweaked it enough that is was not hooking too much entering the pocket. Standing 30, looking at 7-9 down lane at about 45 feet was the sweet spot for me and this ball. The in house demo ball that I used was label and polished with react a shine make it just a touch more angular, not really enough to justify keeping the ball with polish on it for me. Better results if you need a ball that would hook though a rain storm of oil, this is the ball. Serious hook for the serious bowlers.

On the new house pattern, with not so much blend in the pattern with hardly any 2 to 2's, the ball’s best look was standing 22 and keeping the ball outside of 8 through the front part of the pattern so it would not slow down in the heavier oil. Ball speed was the key I believe by starting the ball a little lower at set up, allow my ball speed to be controlled more to match the reaction better. I kept on striking and striking non-stop. This ball will be great for those that are looking for a step up from the and Hy-Road and IQ Emerald.

Layout and surface information: 5.5 x 4.5 x 3 out of box with Reacta Gloss - but adjusted to 4K Fast.

My intention for this Phaze V was to add it to my new 6 ball tournament arsenal line for mid to heavy length and volume condition tournaments where I know the surface tends to be a little tougher to deal with, or just know that piece I can lean on when needed like most higher level bowlers that use Phaze IIs, iQ Tours, or Hy Road lines. I use more hybrid pearlized and pearlized covers over solid coverstocks. I found that the surface adjustment fitted better to my game of higher revs, and mid to low ball speeds. Using it out of the box the Phaze V floated on the fronts and mids of the lane and did not quite come off the pattern like my “eyes” like to see. I need a little earlier motion for my comfort zone. If the balls take too long to develop in the back end, I tend to try to force it straighter or do something that I know won’t work well, but it is human nature to try to “control” things. The Phaze V ball did recover a ton when I opened up the angles to feed the ball farther down the lane and make the breakpoint closer to the backend but without duck hooking and hitting behind the 1-2 pocket. It 100 PERCENT shreds the pins once it gets there. I really, really love my Phaze V at 4K fast finish.

Tested on Older HPL on Boardwalk and Easy Street using KEGEL Flex with Fire and Ice oil
Found the Pitch Blue for forgiving than the Pitch Black when it came to coming off of the pattern, my Black made a move instantly off of the oil and the Blue gave me a little shape and consistency off of the pattern, was able to create a little better angle into the pocket resulting in less corner pins. Once the conditioner got used done and near the breakpoint, the Black could not recover, and the Blue did. When using it on Easy Street, I was able to play off of 1-3 boards and get away from the heavy part of the oil pattern and also stayed away from the other lefties that were using stronger stuff and trying to play the track area, and they were getting over/under, and the good thing I wasn’t. Outscored the other lefties by 18-26 pins each game. Glad I had the “Blue: with me. I have used it in league a few times to play straight up when there are other lefties trying to hook all the boards. I get away from what they are creating with using the Pitch Blue and my Loco Solid. If you are looking for a weaker piece from the Locos and similar developed balls, then the Pitch Blue is for you.

Been bowling for 46 years and I have NEVER rolled an urethane ball like this before. During SPI Matchmaker events alot of the attendees would love this ball. So not knowing quite how to layout it out because of what I was seeing from the demos, I finally settled on 40 x 5 3/4 x 20 after talking with Travis Celmer, to help the back end to be a little sharper, and I was in total AWE by the motion and how much even in heavier oil in the mid to center part of the pattern, this ball to me a stronger version of the Hustle INK, which is becoming my all-time favorite ball to use on league nights. When leagues start back up after the virus scare is over, this will be the very first ball that will hit the pins for me.

Storm Proton Physix – layout: 70 x 1 ½ x 60
Tech specs: NeX reactive coverstock – Atomic Core – 2000ab finish
Ball review: When layout out this ball I took into account how much more rev dominate I have become in the past 2 years. So with that we drilled a shorter pin to pap for me to help calm the ball down overall. Anything 3 ½ to 5 ½ pin to pap is way too strong for me for asymmetric cores since my accident over 2 years ago. During the course of practicing and filming for my ball video I found the Proton to be stronger overall than any the Omega Crux that actually had a stronger pin to pap layout. I was thinking that with the 1 ½ inch pin drilling, it would be smooth rolling down the entire lane, but surprisingly I was not. It still saved plenty of energy in the front part of the lane to allow it to recover very nicely in the backend of the lane. Was also able to play straight with less hand and still hold up very well and was also to open up the front angle and still have plenty of strength to strike the pocket pretty hard. This is step up in strength from the new Roto Grip RST-X1 with similar layout.

Storm Revenant: R3S pearl reactive coverstock with the Vector Core
Layouts: 60 x 6 x 70 at 2000 grit polished and 60 x 1 ½ x 55 box condition – Reacta Gloss
My specs: Ball speed 15+, Rev rate 425, PAP 4 and up 13/16
Used on several different lane conditions and surfaces with both layouts. We first drilled the 60 x 6 x 70 and I noticed on SPL, there was not very much motion on the backend, so I tried a couple different surface changes and decided to park the ball until I got a chance tried it on different lanes. Then I tried out the 60 x 1 ½ x 55 on the SPL and as expected with the shorter pin to pap the ball read earlier and gave me a much better look on SPL. Took the 6 in pin ball to a center with well worn HPL and a lighter volume house pattern and that ball really reminded me of a Hy-Road, just a smidge smoother front to back and kept the track area in play for me. 4-6 boards right with my feet the 1 ½ in ball had a very similar look on the backend. Took both to a center with WOOD lanes and realized while it is important to have some longer pin to pap layouts – the 6 in pin ball was AMAZING. Kept the lane in play all through the night of practicing. 1 ½ pin ball did rev up because of the layout, but still had plenty of get up and go in the backend. With the 6in pin ball, the straighter I play, the better my carry is on WOOD and HPL. Both balls will serve a purpose for me when I hit up some upcoming tournaments. One of them will be the ball I start with just depends on the pattern length and what lane surface the centers will have. The Revenant is a great ball for any level of bowler. I have seen 2 handers, strokers, crankers, and anything in between use the Revenant at several matchmaker events and they are one of the most popular balls being purchased – even with the recent release of the Storm iQ Tour Ruby.

Finish: 1500Ab with factory polish

What I saw on the lanes: First off, the whole approach and settee area smelled wonderful because of this ball. Actually had people the pair over walked over and saw it was “one of those smelly bowling balls”, and wondered what the scent was. Now for the lanes, I compared it to the IQ 30 and saw an improvement in the back end and mid lane roll and also a real difference in pin carry, if you watch my youtube video on the ball, you can see a difference in the carry of the pins. The Updated Centripetal HD core delivers an extra punch in the pocket. The ball for me needed a little tweet on the cover stock when being used on SPL and Brunswick lane panels. I adjusted the cover stock to 4000Ab and the ball rolled great again

Ball: Street Fight
Layout: 6 x 5 with 4” pin buffer
Coverstock: R4S – pearl reactive
Core: Iron Cross (14-16lbs.)
Finish: 3000 sheen
Flare potential: 3” – 5” HIGH
Lane conditions: 44 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s and newer SPL with Infinite conditioner with ION machine.
Test results: The ball projected roll for me was early than I thought knowing it had the R4S coverstock. Usually pearls are longer in length down lane and a whole lot more angular. With it being 3000 grit sheen, the ball went longer down lane, recovered later but not anymore angular that the PHAZE II. It suited better for me in a more consistent way on newer SPL with Infinite oil. It needs the extra viscosity to remain “calm” down lane. Moving left with my feet just right off center and looking at the base of the 4 pin gave me the best look overall on both lane surface and conditioner. Very strong ball from release to the pocket, not a full step down from the PHAZE II, but a good half step down in overall hook potential. Nice THS for lanes with slicker surface and or more volume.

SUPER SON!Q - 60 x 4 1/2 x 40 - 14lbs.
NRG Hybrid coverstock - 3000 grit - 5" flare
LANE INFORMATION: 44FT THS ON HPL INSTALLED IN EARLY 2000'S
This ball is the third one I drilled since my return to bowling, was trying to have a nice 3 ball arsenal for my comeback, selected this ball for the NRG cover which I loved on the current Hyroad with NRG solid cover. I found the Super roll very comparable in the front part of the lane and seen a smige difference in the "wobble" in the mid point of the lane, it remained unstabled for a split second longer and which inturn allow more energy to be stored and causing a strong angle off of the breakpoint and into the pocket, making the carry better. I had to change the surface of the Hyroad too much for it to move too early for my liking on HPL. I love the SUPER SON!Q for my current heavier volume and longer pattern lengths.

Ball: Storm Sure Lock
Specs: 2000 grit AB with a 40 x 4 x 40 layout
Lane info: SPL installed in early 2010’s and using KEGEL Flex with Fire conditioner w/ defense – C cleaner
What I liked: WOOHOO!! This Lock is the best of the bunch. Stronger than the Trick, Alpha, Lock in all aspects. Longer length off of the pattern, strong and very reliable angle into the pocket and very adaptable to lane and surface changes. The cover for me in the past give me mixed emotions, but pairing it with the Lock core, the pairing now works the best for me. I have a strong tilt and rev dominate and left handed, so usually solids are not too friendly to me, they tend to loss all “focus” mid lane and making change to a different ball or alter the launch angles and change the in play part of the lane that I am more suited for earlier than most lefties. The Sure Lock gives me length, controllable hook and roll and overall a very good ball for me when I am bowling on SPL or newer Brunswick lane panels.

What I Liked: The ball was really “easy” to read when it went through the 2 transitions from front to back of the lane. I was expecting a “BIG” pearl piece, but was more like a Hy-Road to me but with more hitting power into the pocket. Definitely hardest hitting SYM core ball I ever used. Great benchmark pearl ball for anyone outside of super speed dominate players. Easy on the eyes to watch the movement and can make those little adjustments like launch angles, adjustment left or right on the approach, etc.. Works better on HPL then SPL just because the friction difference if the lane panels. I can see why this ball is selling out. By far the best Pearl SYM core ever produced by Storm since the Hy-Road was introduced almost 8 years ago.

What I Liked: I changed the surfaced to 4000 grit AB to give it a little more length because the reaction off the pattern with the box finish was very strong and very quick. For me, 2000AB read real quickly off of the pattern, taking it to 4000 grit AB allowed it just that smoother transition off of the wet and onto the dry, made it more manageable for me. Very Strong – I stress Very Strong solid reactive cover ball. I feel that is ball would be the first piece out of my bag when I bowl at the ABC centers that have the newer Brunswick panels without taking a second thought. Great strong piece without having to go to an ASYM core solid.

Storm TREND - 35 x 3 5/8th x 50 at 1500 grit polished
Coverstock: R2S Pearl Reactive
Core: Piston Core
With the proven R2S cover and the newer piston core from the Pro-Motion this ball for me fit between the Parallax and my Storm !Q Emerald. Stronger in the front and mid lane and "striking" well in recovery when bowling on SPL with a 44ft house pattern, noticed that where it seemed the Emerald was getting lazy, it is the next step up in my Storm bag. I really like that they made this ball when they did, with my recovery still going on, I need taller cores to have the ball get down the lane. This one was a no brainer for me to use a strong pin layout - did not have to play with the cover like I did with the Parallax. Really super ball for bowlers that are looking for that special middle piece for their 3 ball arsenal or in their tournament bag.

Storm Trend2 - Layout: 45 x 6 x 45 - 1500 grit polished
Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL
My findings: During warm-ups the Trend2 went into transition from skid to hook a tid bit sooner then the Global Zen and the OG Trend. After a few games on the lanes, I needed to move my feet and break point farther outside the normal track area, for the fact that once it caught the carry down lane conditioner, it ball started to respond later and later, less "hook" in the back end and once I moved out into the lighter oil on the pattern, the original reaction that my eyes liked was back. Felt and seen I need to play more close angles to allow the ball to read and roll correctly for myself. On the short time I bowled on HPL with the ball, the surface of the lane patterns made a HUGE difference, Was able to open up the lane a lot better and was able to keep a good look down lane even as the pattern changed, was able to migrate my normal way inside and away from the area everyone was using during our practice session. Ended up like the Storm Trend2 on the HPL then on SPL.
