What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
We used my benchmark layout for this ball. Using the original Eagle released by 900 Global we assumed this ball would be pretty angular for a matte finished ball. We knew this ball would be able to handle more volume based on what it was made for.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball holds nothing back. It really moves and was made for the volume put out at the Open Tournament. This ball is a must for anyone playing in the USBC National tournament. It will really allow you to open up and play whatever angle you choose. It gets down lane and sets up very nice to the pocket.

The ball really responds well to changes in hand position at release. By staying more up the back of the ball, you get a strong arcing motion down lane. If you change and come around the side of the ball it will really jump off the spot and be more angular.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I was expecting this ball to be a fairly strong midlane ball with more continuation through the pin deck being a matte finished pearl reactive with a strong symmetrical core. We kept the pin much further from my PAP to get the ball down lane due to my rev rate being higher than average.

As with most high performance symmetric equipment I knew that this ball would be very predictable at the breakpoint. Utilizing a longer pin, we were able to keep the CG lower in the thumb quadrant along with using more aggressive drilling angles to get the ball to read the lanes aggressively.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball was everything I expected and more. Being a higher rev player, I tend to favor the pearl symmetric equipment. Also bowling on more sport patterns I have grown accustomed to taking shine off a ball so that I can use it deeper in a multi game set. This ball is perfect for both fresh lanes and as they break down because it is predictable when it hits friction. Even with the strong length and backend layout used, we noticed that it would not take off once it hits the dry like many other pearl bowling balls do. You can see by our video that even playing more toward the track area of the Tony and Curlie, the ball reads the friction without over reacting and going through the face. With that being said, I was surprised by how well it held line when I moved deeper and provided a nice skid snap reaction.

The predictability of this ball along with its incredible versatility to play different lines on a variety of patterns makes this ball a definite must have. I can honestly say that this ball will be a great addition to anyone’s arsenal whether you bowl on house conditions or tournament. Knowing exactly what your ball will do as soon as it hits the lane is a feeling that is hard to describe.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Brunswick has always had, in my own humble opinion, some of the best symmetric equipment on the market. Since the release of the Danger Zone, Brunswick has really been an innovator in symmetric performance offering a variety of ball motions that work well on any THS.

Needless to say this ball really reminded me of one of my favorite balls of all time, the Walter Ray Williams Jr MVP series ball. Same coloring down to the engraving used. I was very excited to get out on the lane with this ball and see if it would have a similar reaction and shape to that ball I loved so much.

I used a slightly different layout on this than most of our other videos. Mostly to get the layout more similar to the MVP I enjoyed so much. I expected this ball to be extremely clean down lane with a nice controllable arc motion off the break point.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball is absolutely fantastic. More backend movement than I had expected, but still very forgiving on missed shots. As you can see by the last shot I threw in the video, I nearly fell and completely missed my target, but the ball held line and destroyed the pins.

This ball really rolls like no other I have thrown. I have always been a fan of Brunswick's symmetric equipment and this makes me an even bigger fan. Excellent controllable reaction and perfect for house shots or sport conditions demanding consistency. I can't wait for the follow up to this ball!

I love this game. You can be one of the great bowlers of that time such as Walter Ray, Parker Bohn III or Curtis Odom. Given the release date of the game, it still has some pretty good graphics. It is about as realistic a game as you could ask for!

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
We knew Brunswick had put all new technology into the Nexus series. Obviously the f(P+R) was meant for heavier volumes with more down lane continuation than the original Nexus Solid.

We expect this ball to still clear the heads, while still storing more energy through the midlane than previous solid Nexus and really unload down lane.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
You need to give Brunswick another look with the release of this ball. The ball motion the have been producing in their last few releases is totally different than what we saw just a few years ago.

The Nexxus f(P+R) another great addition to the Nexus line. This ball was easily the strongest Brunswick ball I have ever thrown. It was a little earlier than expected, but still had energy left for the backend.

I played a wide variety of angles in the video and the ball rolled great on all of them. Playing straighter the ball held line and had a nice transition when it met the friction outside. Playing deep inside it really jumped off the friction to recover and drive through the pin deck.

The overall motion and hook of this ball puts it right up there with any of the other brands high performance balls. The really nice part about the Nexus series is that Brunswick not only hit it out of the park with the ball motion but it also looks fantastic as well. If you have been thinking about trying a Brunswick ball again this would be the time, the Nexxus is a whole new motion for them and I love it.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
We used a layout I had on my Virtual Gravity Nano for this ball. Being this ball is at a lower grit we expected a slightly earlier motion and similar overall hook potential.

This has become somewhat of my benchmark layout and it really allows me to get a good read for what the ball can do.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
It was very close to what I expected. It was almost like the ball knew where it was on the lane. Misses left held line and arced in to the pocket and misses right were more angular. It carried amazing and really took a really bad shot to miss the pocket.

I can not say enough about the new releases from Columbia 300. The finish on the ball holds up very well and it just gets better with age. Very happy to have been able to test this ball.

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (500, 2000 Grit Siaair)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
DV8 is noted for highly aggressive and angular bowling balls. I decided to use a layout that would accentuate that kind of reaction. The 6” Pin to PAP gets the ball to clear the heads and really store its energy for the backend friction. Given that this ball is more aggressive then the original Hell Raiser, we wanted to make sure that we chose a layout to get the ball down lane and really pop.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
All I can say is wow. This ball is a beast. I played around and threw it down a few different lines during the video and it came back no matter how far right I threw it.

Out of box this ball gives pretty good length considering just how aggressive the shell and core are. I think it would be a little better for me with some Factory Finish High Gloss Polish. Then I would be able to get the ball down lane without having to use all the loft. However, if it is still as aggressive, I may still have to loft to get it over the left gutter.

The finish on the ball was very nice. For my game it was a little much for a house shot, but for most bowlers it will give you a perfect ball for heavier conditions. This ball will definitely enable a bowler to open up higher volume shots with ease.

This ball did not have any problems carrying the deeper I moved. For some this ball may lose a bit of energy when covering too many boards, but by adding a light coat of polish to the surface you can help the ball to store the energy to be released later down lane. Overall the ball is very versatile and very very aggressive.

Dual Angle Layout - 90* x 4 7/8” x 35*

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (800, 1500 Grit Abranet)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Being an Asymmetric ball from Ebonite we knew this ball would be very angular. With the matte finish we expected it to start slightly sooner than some of their other products, but still flip hard when it hits the friction.

I used a fairly mild layout on this ball so that it wouldn't become overly angular with my higher rev rate. The higher drilling angle combined with the sub 5" Pin to PAP distance should allow the ball to flare quite a bit, but without the knee jerk reaction on the backend.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
The ball was still quite angular once it hit the friction. I can only imagine how hard it would have flipped had we used my normal layout.

Out of box this ball gets down lane very clean with a strong backend motion. Considering the lower grit on this ball, it could do well on a wide variety of shots given a simple surface adjustment.

This ball seemed to flip harder and harder the deeper I moved. It will really change direction in the dry. We noticed as the lanes started to open up it gave a very large margin for error. It would skid longer when pulled inside and recover very well with misses outside.

This ball combined with the new Pursuit S will be a very good 1, 2 punch for any bowler. This ball would be great to open up with on any variety of conditions and allow an easy transition to the S once the lanes start breaking down. All-in-all another great product from a great company.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I expected much of the same from this ball that I did from the Pursuit, with the only difference being smoother off the breakpoint. The symmetric core in this ball should allow for a similar line as the lanes transition, but with much more consistency down lane.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball was amazing. It was just as strong as the asymmetric version, but with a more powerful arcing motion down lane. It didn't want to overreact in the dry, but allowed for maximum margin of error.

The finish on this ball is perfect for what Ebonite needed from this line. The Pursuit S gives a great midlane read and rolls through the pins like no other symmetric ball. Being very partial to symmetric equipment, I must say that this is one of the best I have thrown in quite a while. It will allow you to open up the lanes very well and still adjust as the lanes transition.

Overall this ball is the perfect combination of core, cover, and surface finish. The Pursuit S is one of the best new releases from Ebonite International.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Judging completely off the surface of this ball, I expected it to get very long. Pearl and Polished Ebonite bowling balls have always allowed me to hit up on the ball as much as I want without the fear of it hooking too soon. The sanding process creates a smooth surface which really helps the ball store up the energy for the friction on the backend.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
I got exactly what I was looking for with this ball. The Signals really allowed me to play a variety of lines and it gives me the ability to stay in the dry longer without hooking up early.

Many people talk about how clean the ball is through the heads. This ball creates completely effortless length even with my higher than average rev rate. Given how much length it gives and that it is asymmetric, it still wasn't super jumpy off the spot. It still had a nice and controllable reaction. This alone sets it apart from any other pearl and polished asymmetric ball on the market.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I decided to go with a layout I have had success with before on higher performance, matte finish, asymmetric balls. This layout allows me to get the most out of the versatility of a ball. This really allows me to play a wide variety of angles from straight up the boards to swinging the ball. It is perfect for house conditions because all I need to do is change my hand position to generate a completely different reaction.

What I expected from the ball was to be versatile. The Diamond series of cores have worked well for Lane #1. One thing I have noticed about them is they give the benefit of Asymmetric performance, but maintain the consistency of symmetric. This is a must for a benchmark type ball.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
The ball was perfect and did exactly what was expected of it. As you can tell by the various angles played, it allowed me to go as straight as I want to moving inside and swinging the ball out. This ball lost nothing in hitting power from any angle. The matte finish gives it great predictability down lane without hooking too much in friction. This ball is perfect for over under types of conditions. It has been the perfect addition to my arsenal for the quick transitioning house shots I bowl on.

Roto Grip, King Of Them All!!

Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 5 1/4"
PSA Layout - 5 ¼” x 4” x 2 ½”
Balance Hole - N/A

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (3000 Abralon)

What I Was Expecting From This Layout:
Based on past high performance solids from Roto Grip, we knew this ball was going to be a hook monster. We wanted to give a good comparison using Tony’s Pin down, and my Pin up layouts. We kept the Pin to PAP distance identical, but wanted the layouts to show how different the ball can be by altering the MB to PAP distance and Pin Buffer.

5 ¼” Pin to PAP is typically in the more aggressive zone for layouts with my rev rate and speed. We still thought it would get down lane with a strong backend motion. And like most other Roto Grip bowling balls, we fully expected a very clean ball through the fronts with a lot of backend movement.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball hooked much much more than I had originally anticipated. The strong coverstock and core, combined with the stronger layout used almost made this ball too much for me. I can honestly say that we could have used much more oil and we would have still seen a ton of movement out of this ball.

The Defiant from Roto Grip will be an excellent choice for anyone looking for a strong ball on heavier oiled conditions. The mid lane roll from this ball was way more anything I have ever seen come from Roto Grip. This ball is like a Cell on steroids. When it wants to hook, just get out of its way.

I have since thrown this ball on both heavier volume shots out of box and some other house patterns with some polish added. This ball can handle any amount of oil and really takes to surface changes very well. Polished it was like a completely different ball. Same overall hook, but further down lane and much more angular.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I went with a typical drilling on the new Mutant Cell so we could get a good overall read of the balls potential. This would most likely be the type of layout that most of our customers will end up with. With the combination of the new core and cover we thought this would show us the true potential of the ball and give us the best read for a solid review.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Another great ball from the guys at Roto. The Mutant Cell did everything we thought it would do. Even with the stronger cover the ball held through the heads, but when it starts getting in to its roll there is no stopping it. This ball was very forgiving when we moved deeper and deeper and played various angles.

What I was most impressed with from this ball was the fact that no matter how hard it hits the pins, it still manages to keep them low for great carry. Overall the Mutant Cell ranks up there as one of my favorite high performance balls from Roto Grip.

THE NOMAD PEARL IS THE BEST BALL FOR THE MONEY

Layout - 55x 5 1/4" x 40

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (1500 Polished)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I was looking for a ball to get down lane with ease and really turn up on the back end. I chose a symmetric weight block to keep that easy readable move on the lane and not be such a harsh skid flip reaction. Being a higher rev player, I need something that isn't going to bite so hard when it comes into contact with friction. Keeping the Pin over 5" away from my PAP gives me added length on most THS(Typical House Shots)

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Boy was I surprised by the strength of this ball! This ball has effortless length with a ton more back end reaction than I ever expected. This is definitely a great compliment to the Nomad Solid, which has a bit more mid lane read. I can really see exactly when the ball starts to rev up and get into its roll. This is a great thing to have when you are really looking to get a read off a new lane condition.

This ball is a must have for anyone bowling on anything from Med Heavy - Med Dry, depending on how you have it drilled of course. I will definitely be getting another one of these, if not 2 more to have drilled differently to compliment one another.

Are you ready for the next generation?

Pin to PAP - Dual Angle Layout 70 x 5.5 x 35
Mass Bias Position - In thumb hole
CG Placement - Just left of center line
Balance Hole - none

Surface Preparation - Box Finish

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
With all the success of the original Cell, this one was going to be pretty easy. We had to use a special tool developed by Storm in order to lay this ball out. We used the Pseudo Pin method to find and mark the bottom of the weight block because the pin length on this ball was about 8 inches. This made it about 5.5 after we marked the bottom of the weight block. If you click on the link, it will take you to an article that I wrote about using the Pseudo Pin technique.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Roto-Grip once again has raised the bar with this release. The look the ball had going down the lane alone would sell this ball to anyone who saw it. I guess the best description would be a Cell on steroids. With the Hybrid reactive cover this gave me the look that most bowlers want, long and strong. The Strike Cell got through the front part of the lane smoothly and with little disruption to friction, as it moved through the mid-lane you could see the ball beginning to rev up and start in to its roll, then finishing strong on the backend. This ball hit as hard if not harder then the Cell, this was mostly due to storing more energy for the back part of the lane.

As the shot began to break down due to the number of bowlers on the lane, I was able to move in really deep and bank off of the dry. This ball was much more than expected and definitely made me believe in this Nucleus weight block. It has a very fast revving yet controllable read on the lanes.

Overall this is another winner from Roto-Grip. I think you will enjoy throwing this ball as much if not more then your Cell.

Ball Tested - Tony Ruocco's Storm Anarchy(4x4x1 Layout)

What I expected:
From watching Tony throw the ball I pretty much knew what this was going to do for me out of the box. I have more forward roll than Tony so most bowling balls are going to read earlier for me. We expected that for me this ball would have a much more even reaction without losing too much energy too early. More even reaction will typically mean a more consistent read on the lanes and make it a little easier to make small adjustments to stay in the pocket as the lanes break down.

What we saw:
I was not expecting to throw the ball very well as I have not picked up a ball in about 4 months. I was going back and forth between this ball and the Virtual Energy drilled 55x5.25x35(dual angle). This ball was my benchmark ball last season while bowling leagues. I was beginning to notice that the Virtual was a little too flippy off the break point. Not bowling for a while it began to be too difficult to control. I noticed a much more consistent read with the Anarchy having the 4x4x1 layout. This ball was very clean through the heads and the transition was very easy to read. It really handles friction very well and does not stop on the backend. The ball drives through the pins extremely well and I really didn't notice any deflection.

Being in the Customer Service department here we get all the comments of "why do all of our reviews of Storm balls say the same thing? It is clean through the heads and great backend reaction." To answer this we simply have to state, this is the benchmark of Storm as a brand. They make bowling balls that are made to get down lane before the react. This ball is just another great addition to the current Storm lineup.

The Storm Anarchy would make a great compliment to anyone's arsenal that currently has an Invasion or Virtual Gravity and is looking for something that will get down lane a bit easier. If you are looking to replace your Virtual Energy with the latest and greatest technology then this is the ball for you as well.

Being that this ball is from Storm, I knew it would get clean through the heads with strong recovery down lane. This is just expected from the ball being in the same line as the Nano and Nano Pearl.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This ball is a little earlier than the Nano with the same explosive reaction off the spot down lane.

This ball allowed me to play a variety of angles during the testing. It reacts very, very well to changes in hand position. The more I came around the side of the ball, the stronger it was off the spot. Changing to more up the back, it had a heavier mid lane roll and didn't overreact. All in all this ball is another winner from a winning manufacturer.
