The 900 Global Altered Reality utilizes the S84 Response pearl coverstock and proven Disturbance core used in the original Reality. The Altered has big shoes to follow with the Reality, which I feel is possibly the best ball of 2021. The Altered Reality has impressed me so far. It seems that I can get it to the pocket on almost every pattern, which shows its versatility. The Altered is going to be a great compliment to the Reality. During testing, Ryan tested it all over the lane. It showed to be best inside 4th arrow on the house pattern at Fulton Bowling Center. I think the Altered Reality is in that camp of must have balls. It will fit the strong asymmetrical ball slot in your tournament bag. #Stormnation

The 900 Global Eternity utilizes the new Epoch core and S84 pearl reactive coverstock. The cover is the same cover used in the Altered Reality. 900 Global changed the red/pink color of the Altered with a purple in the Eternity. The ball looks great and performs great. The Altered for me rolled a little early so didn’t have much left on the back end. The Eternity is a touch easier through the front part of the lane so it has more backend motion for me. The Eternity will be a step down from the Reality or Gem.

The 900 Global Eternity PI utilizes the Special Batch 901 solid coverstock and the Epoch weight block. I think 900 Global’s team is onto something with these special hand-crafted batches of coverstock. The PI shows some strength and looks good (shelf appeal a 10 rating) doing it also. I feel the PI falls between the Magic Gem and Reality. The PI is cleaner and longer than the Magic Gem but sooner than the Reality. The PI doesn’t have the backend movement of the Reality. The PI has a little edge over the Magic Gem with being more versatile. I carry both the PI and the Reality with me to most tournaments, but would take the Magic Gem in place of the PI if the oil pattern was a heavy oil pattern.

The 900 Global Harsh Reality utilizes the Reserve 902 Solid cover along with the Disturbance AI Core. We compared to the Roto Grip Magic Gem. We saw the Harsh Reality to be stronger overall than the Magic Gem. The Harsh Reality as longer with more backend motion than the Magic Gem. The Harsh Reality is going to be my number 1 ball out of my bag for heavy oil conditions.

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl utilizes the Reserve Batch 902 Blend pearl coverstock and the Disturbance AI core. It’s kind of cool to see the pearl version of the Harsh Reality in the same color scheme. However, I do see how it would be difficult to tell the difference at times so be careful. Lol. I used the Harsh Reality Pearl on the Petraglia oil pattern at the PBA50 WSOB. I put a light 2000 surface change on it before the squad because of the heavy oil volume. I had a good look once the pattern settled down. The Harsh Reality Pearl was very clean through the first part of the lane and with a defined movement on the backend.

The Harsh Reality Pearl will be the ball you go to once your first ball starts to hook early and ring 10-pins.

The 900 Global Honey Badger Intensity utilizes the S70 coverstock with the Grapnel 2.0 core. We compared the HB Intensity to the Reality. The HB Intensity was a touch sooner than the Reality and a little less responsive on the back end, which is a good thing. You don’t want all your bowling balls rolling the same. The HB Intensity is 900 Global’s version of the Roto Grip Rubicon and the Storm Incite. The HB Intensity is a lower-end asymmetrical ball. The intent was to take the place of those symmetrical balls with a low weight hole. The HB Intensity is smoother than the Rubicon. I am looking forward to getting more games on this ball.

900 Global Harsh Origin utilizes the Reserve Batch 93 Blend hybrid coverstock and the new Ellipse AI core. The Origin is becoming one of my favorite balls quickly. I drilled it on a Saturday night and threw it on Sunday at a senior tournament and averaged 240 for 7 games. On top of that, it was from playing 15 and left at the arrows. I just threw it yesterday in a 8 game sweeper that featured a very demanding low ratio oil pattern. By the end of the day, I was crossing 25 at the arrows with the Origin and had the best look of anyone. This senior isn’t use to playing that deep anymore. It was fun. The Origin is going to my step-down from the Physix Blackout or Attention Star S2. I am looking forward to the future with the Origin.

900 Global Harsh Origin EX utilizes the Reserve Batch 89 Blend solid coverstock and the new Ellipse AI core. The Origin EX is the smooth version of its predecessor the 900 Global Origin. The Origin is one of my favorite all-time releases so the Origin EX has big shoes to fill. The two balls are completely different, which is a good thing. The EX is much smoother in terms of ball motion. If used on the correct oil patterns or conditions, I believe the EX is going to fit in most bags. I see the EX being similar to my Roto Grip Attention Star S2. I also get Roto Grip Reign of Fire vibes. I do think the EX will favor high rev, high speed bowlers. I am not saying the EX won’t have a place for the rest of us, but I see it being a favorite for our two-handed friends. I am looking forward to throwing the EX on some different oil patterns in coming months.

We tested the 900 Global Volatility Torque (an absolute beast) but did not do a review. I was able to win a senior tournament throwing the Volatility Torque fresh off the press. The Reality utilizes the S84 Response solid cover with the Disturbance asymmetric core. The cover and weight block complement each other well. The Reality was versatile during testing. The test bowlers were able to play multiple angles with the Reality on the house shot. I see the Reality as a 1b tournament ball that will be used when the Storm Proton Physix is reading the lanes too soon but the oil is heavy enough that you still need a surface ball. The Reality carried very well during testing. Everyone watching the test session said the same thing – “This ball looks like it is going to strike every time going down the lane”.Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop to order yours.Continue to bowl up a Storm!#Stormnation #900Global

The 900 Global Reality Check utilizes the S84 Beta Hybrid pearl coverstock and proven Disturbance core used in the original Reality. The Reality Check will fill the No. 5 slot in your 6-Ball tournament arsenal. We tested on a 3 day old house shot so it was not the ideal conditions to test it on. I see the Reality Check shining on those medium to heavy oil patterns where you can keep your angles straighter. I do believe you could add a little Reacta Shine so the Reality Check could be used on light-medium pattern. The Disturbance core wants to roll early so stability will be a strong point for the Reality Check. #Stormnation

The 900 Global Sublime utilizes the Reserve Blend 802 Hybrid coverstock and the Immersed Symmetric A.I. weight block. All I need to say is my choice for 2023 Ball of the Year. There are times when you can tell a ball is special, which is the case with the Sublime. The Sublime seems to have the perfect combination of length and backend motion. The carry has been fantastic during league with this ball. The sales in the pro shop for the Sublime have been good to start. There are a lot of Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid vibes from the color combo. I also get a little Marvel Pearl motion vibes.

The 900 Global Sublime Focus utilizes the Reserve Blend 804 solid reactive cover along with the Immersed A.I. Core. The Sublime Focus is very strong with box finish on it. The Sublime Focus is a very underrated ball in my opinion.

Where does the Sublime Focus fit in the strength chart for solid/hybrid SPI balls:

The 900 Global Xponent combines the Shrapnel 2.0 core and the hand-crafted 701 Blend solid cover. We tested with the factory 4000 finish. 900 Global is committed to crafting small batches of coverstock with specific purposes in mind. Smaller batch production is an exciting twist that I am interested in learning more about. We tested the Xponent alongside the RG DUO. Both balls will be in the benchmark ball zone of your arsenal (RG = 2.28 and Diff = 0.042). We see the Xponent being a step down from your Zen or Phase II. Both the Xponent and DUO were used a lot at the recent PBA50 WSOB in Jackson, Michigan, which is a good sign.

The 900 Global Zen Gold Label utilizes the Special Reserve Batch #801 pearl coverstock and the Meditate weight block. First impressions are easy length and good backend motion. There are times the pearl cover is too clean for fresh oil conditions. The Gold Label definitely has a place in the bag for when transition starts. The motion of the Gold Label is different than the original Zen. The Zen Soul and Zen Gold label have big shoes to fill so I don’t think it is fair to compare. The Gold Label will be my No. 3 or 4 ball out of my bag.

The 900 Global Zen Master utilizes the S77 solid coverstock with the Mediate core. We all know what this core produced with the pearl version in the Zen. I am looking forward to finding out how this combination plays out over time. I drilled this ball pin down, which is rare for me. I compared it to a pin down Storm Crux Prime I have with the exact same layout. The Zen Master was earlier and stronger than the Crux Prime. I see the Zen Master being my option on the fresh heavy oil conditions. Once the fronts start to hook, I would step down to the Zen. A friend of mine made the Zen Master look really good in a recent tournament that we crossed together in. When the ZM started to hook to soon, he went to the 900 Global Ordinace C4 and kept striking. Many good options as a step down from the Zen Master.

The 900 Global Zen Soul utilizes the S77 hybrid coverstock with the Mediate core. Here we are reviewing another Zen. It makes sense to combine the best characteristics from the Zen and Zen Master. The Zen ball “good” and the Zen Master not as good for me but does have some good characteristics. I must say though that I am going to drill another Zen Master with my favorite drill so it may become a favorite as well. I have thrown the Zen Soul in a couple tournaments. The Zen Soul looked really good playing straight, just inside the oil line at both tournaments. It is definitely a little stronger and earlier than the original Zen. The Zen Soul as a little rounder/longer hook spot than the Zen but still continuous. I moved 2 and 1 right with the Zen from the Zen Soul and was lined up immediately. I am interested in seeing what the Zen Soul will do on a little more oil and my normal release. The Zen Soul has the Daredevil Trick color vibe going for it, which I like.
My final thoughts are I don’t think a person needs both the Zen Soul and Zen Master. You could choose one of the two and pair it with the Zen for a nice 1-2 punch.

The 900 Global Zen U utilizes the Meditate core and S35 Urethane+ coverstock. The Zen U produces the same amount of board coverage the Pitch Purple provided and that other competitor’s purple ball. The Zen U will be great for us bowlers that are a little rev challenged but still need some the control of an urethane ball on those sport patterns.

The Roto Grip Attention Star utilizes the eTrax Pearl Reactive cover along with the Momentous plus AI Core. We have the RG Attention Star a touch cleaner and weaker than the Exotic Gem, which the Diff numbers confirm. I drilled the Attention Star before league then threw it for 4 games on our house pattern. The ball was impressive. I consistent motion and great carry. I don’t feel it will be a ball for heavy oil but that is why we own more than one ball. When it is time for the Attention Star, this ball will shine.

The Roto Grip Attention Star S2 utilizes the eTrax + Hybrid cover along with the Momentous plus AI Core. The AS2 is earlier and stronger than the OG Attention Star. The AS2 should be a good No. 1 or 2 ball in your tournament bag depending on your style.

The Roto Grip Clone combines the E.T. Core (made famous in the UFO line) and the new OptiTrax solid cover. We tested with the factory gloss finish. We tested alongside the Storm Summit. The Clone was a foot to two feet longer before the hook phase started when compared to the Summit. I can see the Clone being used when your biggest hooking ball starts to burn up early and your pin carry goes way. I didn’t get to throw the UFO Alert so I can’t say if it is a replacement, but I can say the Clone is going to be a popular choice for many tournament bowlers when they need some mid to down lane hook.

The Roto Grip DUO combines the Mentor Core and MicroTrax pearl cover. We tested with the factory Reacta Gloss finish. The DUO had some DareDevil vibes to it. The DUO will be a step down from the .0050+ Diff bowling balls when they start to burn up early. The DUO’s overall hook was a little less than one of my favorites and a ball that shares the MicroTrax cover - the Exotic Gem.

The Roto Grip Gem utilizes the Defiant LRG Core (the fastest revving, strongest continuing, lowest RG asymmetrical core ever offered in the Roto Grip history) and the MicroTrax reactive cover. The drill layout on the Gem put the pin next two my ring finger and slightly down. Our intent with the drill was to produce a roll off the end of the pattern (not a jump left reaction) to be used on fresh lane conditions. We want to be able to keep our target in front of us when needed. Therefore, the Gem we drilled will not be used to hook the entire lane. We were impressed with Gem. The ball reaction was definitely smooth. The best look we had was further right. When we missed right, it did not jump left. We drilled a Gem for a left-hander and he reported that the sound of the Gem hitting the pins was louder than any ball he had heard in his local bowling center. The Gem’s best characteristic is its forgiveness. We say the Gem correct a lot of our misses – both in and out misses. #Stormnation

Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The Roto Grip Halo sports the MicroTrax S-18 coverstock and Centrum Core (asymmetrical). The cover and core combination work well together. The Halo is a stronger version of the very popular Idol. Time will tell if the Halo is as popular. I am leaning towards it will be.
We tested the Halo on our typical house shot after a manual cleaning of the lanes so it wasn’t ideal conditions to be testing such an aggressive ball. However, the Halo performed well once we got deep enough with our feet to create some angle in the front part of the lane. The Halo carried extremely well during testing. We carried light hits, half-pocket hits, and flush hits. This can’t be said for most balls that are not on their intended oil pattern conditions. On a heavier oil pattern, you wouldn’t have to create this angle and the Halo would shine even more. An example of this was at a recent PBA50 tournament that used a 42 foot higher oil volume pattern. The Halo performed very well for other bowlers on the higher volume PBA50 pattern.
The Halo ended up being about 5 and 2 further left than the Idol during testing. The Idol did have a little lane shine on it but had a 2000 grit base surface. The Idol was also a little longer pin placement but the Halo is definitely stronger. The Halo and Idol will be a great one-two punch to start a tournament. If one ball isn’t working, the other one should. The differences in cores should give options as the first balls out of your tournament bag.
The Halo will be ideal for us lower rev players when we need a ball to hook on higher volume patterns. Higher rev bowlers will have to use some longer pin distances. Good luck and high scores to you with your Halo!

The Roto Grip Halo Pearl sports the eTrax P-18 coverstock and Centrum Core (asymmetrical). The cover and core combination work very well together. This ball is as close to a must have that I have seen.
We tested the Halo Pearl on our typical house shot right after the lanes were dressed so the conditioner did not have time to settle. It didn't seem to matter though. The Roto Grip Halo Pearl was dynamite during this test session and previous test sessions as well. The ball allowed me to play firm and straight just inside the track. However, I could also move in and slow hook it from fourth arrow. The carry was excellent from both zones.
When compared to the Roto Grip Hyper Cell Fused, the Halo Pearl had a little sooner break point. The Hyper Cell Fused was longer which promoted more entry angle. The Halo Pearl was more continuous off the end of the pattern. The total hook was comparable between the two balls. The shape of the hook was different.
The Halo Pearl will be ideal for rev dominant players but will work for almost all styles. The Hyper Cell Fused is better suited for speed dominate players.

Roto Grip’s Hustle BRY utilizes the VTC Hybrid coverstock and the Hustle core, while the Hustle XRAY uses the VTC Solid coverstock and Hustle core.

Can you say Value? Value is when the performance beats the expectations. This is what you get with the Hustle line. The Hustle BRY and Hustle XRAY, the newest entries into the HP1 line, are the definition of value. Both have their place. The Hustle XRAY is earlier and smoother down lane where the Hustle BRY is cleaner in the fronts and more boom down lane. Pick the one that fits the gap in your bag or buy both. Lol. If you bowl in a high friction bowling center, the BRY is probably the best answer. The XRAY will be the better choice for bowlers wanting to keep their target in front of them and play straig

The Roto Grip Hustle Camo utilizes the Hustle Core and VTC coverstock. The Hustle Camo was compared the red Storm Electrify Solid. They tested very similar. The Hustle Camo was a little longer with a crisper backend reaction. When compared to the Hustle PBR, the Hustle Camo is a touch longer as well. There is something about the look of the Hustle Camo that makes it a border line must have. The Hustle Camo is going to be a very good league ball as well as for late in tournaments.

The Roto Grip Hustle PBR utilizes the Hustle core wrapped in VTC-S20 (Versatile Traction Control) solid reactive coverstock. We tested the Hustle PBR against the Roto Grip Idol and Roto Grip Hustle PBR. With no surprise, the Hustle PBR fell between the two. The PBR was not as early as the Idol nor was its overall strength equal to the Idol. When tested against the Hustle Ink, the PBR was slightly early and smoother. My first impressions after making the review video and getting to throw it in league and tournament action is the overall reaction is smooth and carry is good. The Hustle PBR is going to be a good entry level ball for bowlers that can be thrown with surface or with shine. I get asked all the time why I should buy another ball in the Hustle line. My answer is simple, the teams at Roto Grip (and Storm) continue to improve the coverstocks. These covers continue to evolve and make a big difference.

The Roto Grip Hustle USA utilizes the Hustle Core and VTC hybrid coverstock. The Hustle USA has been one of my more anticipated releases as of late. We tested on a 3-day old league shot that followed a mix league, youth league, and two days of open bowling. Therefore, testing conditions were not ideal. The Hustle USA did impress though. I see the Hustle USA being my No. 4 ball in my six ball arsenal. I anticipate being able to through it in league and to start medium volume sport patterns. The Hustle USA was very predictable and the carry was good. I see it getting even better as we get a few games on it. We tested against a lane-shined iQ Tour. The Hustle USA was a touch earlier and smoother on the back end than the iQ Tour. This cold have been the difference in surface prep. We saw a lot of Hustle PBR characteristics in the USA.

The Roto Grip Hustle Wine utilizes the Hustle Core and VTC Pearl coverstock. I finally found my go to ball when the lanes are hooking. The first night out this ball showed me all I needed to see. The Hustle Wine cleared the heads easily and have very good hook off the spot. The energy stored up was evident in its ability to continue through the pins. If you are looking for an entry level ball to start league, the Hustle Wine is the ticket. In comparison to the Hustle PBR, which I liked a lot, the Hustle Wine was a foot longer and more backend hook. The PBR was more of an even arcing ball for me. The Hustle Wine is going to be most effective on medium-light to light conditions. I am looking forward to using the Hustle Wine in tournaments after the breakdown in lane conditions happens.

The Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid utilizes the Hyped Core and VTC hybrid coverstock. The Hyped Hybrid rocks a beautiful pink swirl coverstock. I was bowling a recent tournament and noticed another bowler throwing it a coupe pairs over because the color popped. The H2 definitely has shelf appeal. The Hyped Hybrid has a sooner hook spot than the Hyped Pearl but still finishes well. I feel you could get by with one or the other if you are on a budget. Both are good options for the HP2 line. Both are a touch stronger than I expected. Once again, Roto Grip is providing a bang for your buck. The Hyped line should provide a great step up from the Hustle line. The Hyped Hybrid is going to be most effective on medium conditions. I am looking forward to using the Hyped Pearl in tournaments after the breakdown in lane conditions happens.

The Roto Grip Hyped Pearl utilizes the Hyped Core and VTC pearl coverstock. The Hyped Pearl reminded me a little of the MVP Pearl in regards to how easy it clears the front part of the lane. The Hyped Pearl is stronger on the back end for me than the MVP Pearl. I have used the Hyped Pearl in several league nights so far. I have been impressed with the Hyped Pearl. The intention of this line of balls was to fill the gap between the HP3 and HP1 lines. I feel Roto Grip has accomplished this goal. The carry has been impressive. The Hyped Pearl is going to be most effective on medium and medium light conditions. I am looking forward to using the Hyped Pearl in tournaments after the breakdown in lane conditions happens.

The Roto Grip Idol Cosmos pairs the Xtreme Trax pearl coverstock with the proven IKON core. The Idol Cosmos makes a statement – on the lane and on the shelf. I like the green color of the coverstock. The ball just looks like it will perform well. During testing, I definitely got an Idol Pearl vibe. I would say it may be a touch stronger than the its pearl predecessor but similar in ball motion. When tested against the newly released Storm Infinite Physix, the Idol Cosmos was cleaner through the front part of the lane and retained more energy for a more defined hook motion down lane. The Idol Cosmos is going to be a good one folks. If you are missing your Idol Pearl, this is an option for you.

The Roto Grip Helios Idol combines Xtreme Trax solid coverstock with the world-famous Ikon core. The goal of the Helios Idol was to create an improved version of the original Idol without losing that bowl motion we saw in the original. I think Roto Grip did just that. My original Idol has so many games on it that it wasn’t an equal comparison. The Helios was a little less overall hook than the Storm Nova. It got down the lane a little easier than the Nova and had a strong backend motion. I see it fitting into the tournament bag exactly where the original fit. The Helios passes the oil test – it reads the lane if tugged in the oil. Most balls that pass the oil test end up being the great ones. #Stormnation

The Roto Grip Idol Pearl utilizes the Ikon Core and e-Trax P-18 pearl coverstock. This ball sure does catch your eye with its blue pearl coverstock. It will catch your eye based on the performance as well.
With that said, the Roto Grip Idol Pearl was fantastic during testing. The pearl coverstock lets the Idol Pearl get through the heads easily. We did not notice any skate when we tugged it in the oil and plenty of recovery on misses right, which should make this ball usable on a lot of conditions. For a pearl coverstock the Idol Pearl handled the oil very well. I could see us speed challenged players having to put this ball up when the heads burn up. I experienced this one night in league when I had to force the ball down the lane. In reality, having too much motor is not a bad thing.
I would describe the Idol Pearl as a more controllable Storm SoniQ. The Idol Pearl will fit between my Idol (2000-grit) and my polished Winner Solid.
This is a great addition to the HP3 line and will make a good ball for mid to late in a block. The Idol Pearl will continue where the Idol left off.

I think this ball is a hidden gem that got forgotten about with all the new releases. The Synergy has made several appearances on the PBA shows lately so there is something special about this ball.During our testing, the Synergy was a touch stronger than our Idol Pearl and touch weaker than the Idol. This is exactly what we thought. All three had different motion characteristics. The Synergy also handles surface adjustments easily if needed. We had a night in league where the laneswere very slick. My teammate put some surface on his Synergy during practice and got lined up and put up some big numbers. I wouldn’t be scared to drill one if you need to replace either of the original Idols or want a ball shape between the two originals.Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop to order yours.Continue to bowl up a Storm!#Stormnation #OwnIt

The Roto Grip Magic Gem utilizes the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock and the Defiant LRG weight block. The speed dominant or low rev players are going to love this one. The design of the Magic Gem was to fit between the Gem and Exotic Gem. I think this was accomplished but the Magic Gem is closer to the Gem, which isn’t a bad thing. I will use the Magic Gem on long oil patterns and heavier oil patterns. This ball will fill my No. 1 (first ball) slot in my tournament bag. I don’t have my Gem anymore so the Magic Gem came into my life at the right time. Lol

The Roto Grip MVP utilizes the Neutron NXT Core and VTC-H19 hybrid coverstock. The Wrecker is back! This is exciting news for us who loved the Wrecker and a second chance for who didn't get that opportunity. The MVP is a little stronger than the Wrecker but very similar in the type of roll and number of boards covered. In addition, you get a lot of hook for the price.

The Roto Grip MVP Pearl utilizes the Neutron NXT Core and VTC-P19 pearl coverstock. The MVP Pearl is cleaner through the front part of lane in comparison to the original MVP, which isn't exactly a surprise. However, I could play them exactly the same just with a little different shape. The MVP Pearl will be an option down from the Idol Pearl when it starts to hook too soon and a step up from the Hustle. The lanes were easy during testing but I struck a lot with the MVP Pearl. This is going to be a good one!

Roto Grip No Rules Exist
Layout: 55 x 4.5 x 30
Rev Rate: 300 rpm
Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium volume) – Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane
Test results: The No Rules Exist utilizes Chaotic core and Reckless cover. The Chaotic core was the motor under the hood for the highly successful No Rules Pearl and the Reckless cover was used in the Dare Devil Trick. Obviously, the Exist is earlier than the No Rules Pearl because of the solid coverstock even though they share the same weight block. I bowled the PBA Midwest/Central Celeste Walker Regional this past weekend in Lockport, Illinois and the Exist was my ball of choice early on the 45 foot Dick Weber oil pattern. I was able to play right the first few games and then parallel in as the lanes broke down. My carry percentage was very good with the Exist. I did lose carry once I had to move inside 15, which is common with most assymetrical balls for me. What I see from the Exist is it is a very strong rolling ball and is earlier than say my Drive, but not so early that the ball doesn't have anything left on the end. The Exist is a great option for heavy, long oil patterns. #OwnIt

The Roto Grip Nuclear Cell utilizes the tried and tested Nucleus Core and the new eTrax P20 pearl coverstock. We struggled with carry at the start of testing because the Nuclear Cell was so strong and was burning up early. We moved left 5 and 3 and the ball came to life. The eTrax P20 pearl coverstock is an enhanced version of the 2019 eTrax. We have the Nuclear Cell earlier than the Hyper Cell Fused and stronger off the spot. The Nuclear Cell is also a little stronger than the Halo Pearl. The Nuclear Cell is clean through the heads and carries some serious pop on the backend.

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl utilizes the MicroTrax Pearl Reactive cover along with the Ikon weight block plus AI Core. The Ikon weight block is the same used in the original Idol and Idol Pearl. First impressions, this ball is good. On the first night of league, I started with the Optimum Idol Solid and switched to the Optimum Idol Pearl the third game of a 4-game league and shot 245 and 300, respectively. During our ball review of the Optimum Idol Pearl, it looked really good after breaking the lanes in with the solid version. I was able to pick up the pearl once the solid hooked too soon.

The shelf appeal of the Optimum Idol Pearl is off the chart!

Well, I wasn’t exactly excited about purchasing this one based on some of the early reviews that I saw if I am going to be completely honest. However, there was something about the nostalgic appeal of the Roto Star Tour X-1 bowling ball that captured my attention. I remember being a kid at Mexico Lanes and not very many people owned a Roto Grip ball. They were almost thought of as that other ball company. Not a part of the big machine of Brunswick, AMF, or Columbia. This fact always intrigued me about the early Roto Grip bowling balls since I never owned one. Fast forward 30 years, now I have my chance to see what the mystery was all about.

The Roto Grip RST X-1 utilizes the MicroTrax hybrid reactive coverstock and the new RST core. The specifications are middle of the road so has the potential to be a very versatile ball (right in my wheel house). Based on the previous videos I mentioned above, I decided to shine the RST X-1. I found the secret sauce for me. The RST X-1 was clean through the fronts and a noticeable change of direction on the back end. Maybe a pinch less snap than my Storm AstroPhysix. The distance between the oil rings was standard so no differences there. I was able to take hand out and play right on the oil line. I was also able to move in a zone and slow hook it. The carry was good from both places on the lane. Hence, the versatility is definitely a strength of the RST X-1. The shelf appeal is not going to jump off the shelf to the novice bowler but there is beauty in this ball. In addition, there are many of us that like the look of a solid ball going down the lane (lack of revs might be part of the reason but not all of it. Lol). I hope this ball doesn’t get lost in the new releases with brighter colors. This is going to be my sleeper pick for the next 6-month period (as the Wildstreak was and is). Schlem should be proud of this one as he brought the nostalgia feel of the Roto Star Tour brand back. Great job!

The Roto Grip Idol Cosmos pairs the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock with the proven RST core. The RST X3 makes a statement – on the lane and on the shelf. The colors of the coverstock are vibrant. I just like the look of it rolling down the lane. I threw it yesterday in a senior 7-game tournament the last couple games. I could play it straight and hold it up against the oil line or move in a hook it around board 15. The feel that I get is similar to the Gem but not as early rolling. The X3 saves energy in the fronts and delivers a nice back-end motion. I will put the X3 in my No. 2 slot in my 6-ball tournament bag.

The Roto Grip Rubicon UC2 utilizes the Rondure Core and newly formulated eTrax pearl coverstock. Wow! What a clean ball through the fronts then a big back end motion. The backend recovery is really impressive. The UC2 will be a house shot wrecker and one of your first options if you need to move left and throw it to the right. The UC2 is already becoming a favorite on the PBA tour. A great color scheme just adds to its appeal.

The Roto Grip TNT combines the Torpex Core and eTrax Solid cover. The TNT gives off Idol and Haywire vibes but is a touch stronger. This is expected with the improved technology that Schlem puts out of the

The Roto Grip TNT Infused utilizes the eTrax hybrid coverstock and the Torpex weight block. I have seen some reviewers opine that the ball reaction of the TNT Infused is Marvel Pearl like. Those are big shoes to feel as the Marvel Pearl was one of my all-time favorites. However, the TNT Infused is very similar. It is clean upfront and nice backend motion once it touches the dry boards. The TNT Infused is very different than the original TNT, which was smooth and controllable. The TNT Infused is in that Storm Virtual Energy Blackout space, but as a symmetrical option. The TNT Infused was not quite as long s the VEBO for me, but similar backend motion. I will used it as my No. 2-3 ball after my Magic Gem or Eternity PI starts to hook too soon and won’t carry that stubborn 10-pin.

The Roto Grip Tour Dynam-X utilizes the Tour Trax solid coverstock and the Rondure weight block. My first thoughts are control and versatility. The Dynam-X is another option in that iQ Tour space. The Dynam-X can be thrown from straighter angles early and deeper angles later in the blocks. It will never be the ball to cover the most boards but can be thrown from left to right with modest board coverage. We had the Dynamix a touch stronger than the iQ Tour, which has to be the coverstock. The Tour Trax is a new generation solid coverstock that blends the trust-worthy Versatile Traction Control (VTC) coverstock from the Hustle line with some new additives to create a versatile bowling ball.

E.T. core wrapped in MicroTrax S-20 solid reactive coverstock equals a strong, rolling orb that plays well on medium to heavy volumes of oil. The UFO might not be the preferred choice (not that it couldn’t play) on a house pattern but will be a good 1A ball in your tournament bag. I have the UFO with a touch less overall hook than the Halo solid. The MicroTrax S-20 cover gets the UFO through the fronts easily and the backend motion for us was strong, but controllable. Tournament season is upon us so I will get to spend a little more time with the UFO in the coming weeks.

Roto Grip Ultimate Wrecker utilizes the Pure Response hybrid coverstock and the Wrecker A.I. core. The original Wrecker was one of my all-time favorites. I prefer the colors on the original, but I understand colors make a difference to ball reaction. I am sure I will say the same thing about the new colors of the Ultimate Wrecker 20 years down the road. I threw the Ultimate Wrecker on the 2020 World Bowling Montreal oil pattern. It was clean through the front part of the lane but not too clean. It read the midlane at the right spot but continued off the pin deck. The Ultimate Wrecker will be a good middle of the bag ball, maybe just a step under your Rock Star.

The Roto Grip Wildstreak utilizes the Mutated Rotary Core and SureTrax-19 solid coverstock. The first thing I noticed while drilling the Wildstreak was the thick shell. The Wildstreak is designed without a core material allowing for an extra thick cover. I believe this allows the ball to hit harder, which has always been my opinion of thick shelled bowling balls. The Wildstreak was about 3 and 2 deeper than the MVP balls. I didn't see the unpredictability that others have mentioned they see when they miss their target or miss the release. The Wildstreak was forgivable on the house shot and carry was good. I can see it working well in team event at the USBC Open Championships.
This is a great addition to the HP3 line.

Everybody likes a Winner! Roto Grip’s intention was to improve the HP2 line and I feel they accomplished their goal with the Winner. The VTC-P18 pearl coverstock and Altered Hotshot Core work well together. Roto Grip changed the density of the bottom slug of the Hotshot Core and improved the backend motion a bunch, compared to the All Out Show Off. The Winner responds nicely to the friction down lane. I could see where speed dominate players could throw it past the break point on fresh oil.
We compared the Winner to the Storm Marvel Pearl and Storm SoniQ. The Winner ended up 2 and 1 right of the Storm Marvel Pearl and 5 and 3 right of the Storm SoniQ. The ball was cleaner in the front part of the lane than either ball, but still displayed good carry once we got lined up properly. The Winner should fit nicely between the Hustle INK and Show Off. I believe the Winner will be more versatile and successful than the All Out Show Off. Don’t be afraid to try the Winner if you didn’t like the All Out Show Off. Roto Grip made huge improvements in the Winner. #SquadRG #Stormnation

The Roto Grip Winner Solid utilizes the Altered Hotshot Core and VTC-S18 coverstock. I put a shine on the Winner Solid before testing. When compared to the Winner, the Winner Solid reads the mid-lane better. This is to be expected with the solid coverstock verses the pearl. We were about one and one further left with the Winner Solid verses the Winner.
The carry with the Winner Solid was very good on the THS during testing for me. Maybe the best I have seen during all the ball reviews. I had three non-carry shots out of about 15 pocket hits – a stoned 8-pin and two ringing 10-pins. The Winner Solid seemed to keep the pins low. Controlling the pocket was not difficult. I have heard others compare the Winner Solid to the Storm Torrent. I did not throw the Torrent but from what I know from those who have, the Winner Solid is better.
In fairness to all, I did throw the Winner Solid this past weekend at the Greater Tulsa Open. The ball preformed excellent on the fresh during the singles event but struggled to make the corner on the carry down. Part of this could have been contributed to the control drill I used and the shine I put on the coverstock.
This is a great addition to the HP2 line and will make a good benchmark ball. This ball is sneaky good!

Roto Grip X-Cell utilizes the e-Trax Ultra solid coverstock and the Nucleus weightblock + AI core. The X-Cell is a tank, meaning it wants to roll early (but not too early) and smooth backend motion. A great choice for heavier oil patterns with fresh backends. The visual effect is an Alpha Crux vibe, which is a good start. The on-the-lane performance is in the Eternity PI or Reality category. The new e-Trax Ultra coverstock has a R2S shape to it in this X-Cell. The X-cell seems to be gaining traction on the professional levels as indicated by its use at the recent Jonesboro Trio tournament, which normally means “good ball”.

The X-Cell is not the strongest ball in terms of board coverage but will be able to handle heavy oil with fresh backends. I think the X-Cell is going to be a very versatile bowling ball. The team at Storm almost always get the cover preparation correct when they send them out, but shining your X-Cell might be an option.

The Storm Absolute utilizes the new Sentinel core and R2S Deep hybrid reactive coverstock. We compared the Storm Absolute to the new Storm Revenant. The Absolute rolled earlier than the Revenant so it controlled the mid-lane better. Due to using energy sooner than the Revenant, the Absolute wasn’t as sharp on the back-end but carry was still good on the house shot. The Orange Cream Soda scent is a bonus. I see the Absolute being your step down from your strongest asymmetrical pearl. The Absolute seems to be a touch weaker than the Roto Grip UFO Alert.

The Storm Absolute Power utilizes the R2S Deep Solid cover along with the Sentinel Core. This combination of cover and core gives us a very versatile ball reaction. We compared the Absolute Power against the original Absolute. The Absolute Power was stronger overall, front, mid-lane, and back end for us. I see it as my Number 2 ball in my bag, just below the Eternity PI.

The Storm All-Road utilizes the NRG Hybrid coverstock and Inverted Fe2 core. This core is the engine that made the long-lasting Storm Hy-Road famous. This core allows for a thicker than normal coverstock, which always translates into a great ball. When comparing the All-Road with the Hy-Road, we saw an earlier breakpoint with the All-Road. The pin carry is what you expect from this new Thunder Line addition – Great! The All-Road will fit between my Storm Super SoniQ and Storm Hy-Road. The All-Road will be a great benchmark ball for your bag.

The Storm AstroPhysix utilizes the new Atomic Core and the R2S Pearl Reactive Coverstock. The move away from the NRG coverstock is interesting, but I feel like was the correct decision. The design team at Storm seems to get those decisions correct, which is one of the company’s strength. The ball motion of this assymetrical pearl was continuous and strong. If you are thinking the AstroPhysix was another Code Black, you are going to be surprised. The break point of the AstroPhysix is earlier than the Code Black, with good continuation at the pocket. The Storm AstroPhysix will be a good option on medium to longer patterns for us rev challenged seniors bowlers once the stronger balls start to read the lane too soon.

The Storm Axiom utilizes the NeX Solid coverstock and Orbital Core. I am not sure how Storm keeps putting out these amazing bowling balls but they are good at it😊. I didn’t get to practice with the Storm Axiom after drilling it. I took it straight to a tournament and threw it into the fire. The Storm Axiom didn’t disappoint. It was strong but predictable. Since then, I have had a chance to try different surfaces. The Axiom was good with a shine on it but I like it best with about 2000-3000 on it. The NeX coverstock results in a earlier roll than the Phaze II and strong backend motion. The difference isn’t much but noticeable when you throw them together. The Axiom is going to be another Storm benchmark ball along with the Phaze II, IQ Tour, and HyRoad. This is going to be a good one folks! #Stormnation

The Storm Axiom Pearl utilizes the NeX Pearl Reactive coverstock wrapped around the new Orbital Core. The shelf appeal of the Axiom Pearl stands out with the Cobalt/Graphite/Candy Apple color scheme. As far as the performance report cards goes, the Axiom Pearl was stronger than I anticipated when compared to the Axiom Solid. I have Axiom Pearl a couple boards stronger overall. The Axiom Pearl reads the mid-lane rather well for a pearl. The reaction of the Axiom Solid is smoother overall. We saw the same thing when helping a friend with his game. Disclaimer – A house pattern can give a false impression so this could change when used on a sort pattern, which is often the case. I am looking forward to using this one in tournament play.

The Storm Crux Prime utilizes the Catalyst Core and the new SPEC (Storm Performance Enhancing Coverstock) coverstock. The goal with the Crux Prime was to design a high-performance bowling ball that can hold up to the wear and tear of lane friction and prevent oil absorption. Storm's design team did exactly what the intended.
The Storm Crux Prime will definitely hook. The ball reaction was a strong, continuous hook. I compared it to my Alpha Crux with 2000 surface and ended up 3 and 2 left with the Crux Prime. The Alpha Crux was a little more angular, which is also true for my PhysiX. The Crux Prime will be a first ball option in a lot of tournaments, especially for the speed-dominant players. Actually, the Crux Prime is working well for a lot of different styles of bowlers.

The Storm Dark Code utilizes the new ReX coverstock with the proven RAD core. Storm combined the R2S cover (Astrophysix) with the NeX cover (Axiom Pearl) to create the ReX. The result is a slightly earlier break point for the Dark Code when compared to the Astrophysix. The RAD core is a proven winner with a strong motion. The Dark Code will be a step down from your biggest hooking ball when it begins to roll too soon and leave those flat 10-pins. The Dark Code is going to be a good one.

The Storm DNA utilizes the new EXO solid coverstock and Supercoil weight block. We tested the DNA following the state tournament team squad so probably not the best testing environment. However, the DNA showed signs of strength. The ball definitely rolled early and had a smooth overall ball reaction. I don’t feel the DNA was quite as early as the Gem, but was earlier than the Reality. Therefore, I feel the DNA falls in between those two iconic balls. Time will tell if the DNA produces the success those two balls have.

The Storm DNA Coil utilizes the EXO Pearl Reactive cover along with the Supercoil Core. The scent is Orange Pineapple Sush. We tested alongside the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout. The DNA Coil was a touch earlier than VEBO but a touch weaker overall. We see the DNA Coil as your step down from your strong ball such as the Storm DNA. I think you may want to consider a surface change to the DNA Coil. Try it at box finish then change accordingly.

The Drive reads the mid-lane better than the Timeless, which prevents it from skidding past the break point. The Drive is a good step down from the either the No Rules Exist or Hy-Road Nano once the breakdown starts. The Drive reminds me of my Phase II but just a touch earlier. My Drive read the lanes nicely at this year's USBC Open Championship at the beginning of the Doubles event, then I transitioned in with my Hyper Cell Fused.

I see the Storm Electrify GO being a weaker version of the HUSTLE USA. They have the same motion but Hustle USA handles the oil better.

The Storm Electrify Hybrid tested very similar to the Electrify Pearl. I could not tell much difference, maybe a little sooner breakpoint if anything. The Storm Electrify Hybrid utilizes Reactor Hybrid Reactive coverstock wrapped around the new Circuit Core. The Storm Electrify Hybrid is early and has a stronger down lane motion than the Storm Tropical Surge. I typically struggle with carry percentage with lower end balls. The reason is I need to move in when the lanes break down and loose carry with the weaker balls. I don’t see this happening with the Storm Electrify balls. #Stormnation

The Storm Electrify was impressive in its first practice session. I went into the practice and video session with a mind set the Electrify was going to be similar to my Tropical Surge. Boy was I ever wrong. First the specifications – Reactor Pearl coverstock wrapped around the new Circuit Core. The bonus is the frosted cake fragrance. After about three warm up shots to get loose and determine where I needed to play on the broken down, light volume house shot, I threw 18 consecutive shots in the pocket. And, it wasn’t because I was splitting boards and posting every shot. I had my typical array of off shots. I didn’t say I struck every time but I controlled the pocket, which is what you want late in the day of a house shot tournament. I walked away impressed. My opinion is the Storm Electrify is early and has a stronger down lane motion than the Storm Tropical Surge, which is what the specifications tell us. I typically struggle with carry percentage with lower end balls. The reason is I need to move in when the lanes break down and loose carry with the weaker balls. The Storm Electrify Solid is a good value ball and could be considered for a lower end bench mark ball. Something about a red ball that draws you in. The frosted cake scent is a bonus. #Stormnation

The Storm Fate utilizes the new F-8 Core and REX pearl reactive coverstock. The 6th Edition in the Belmo line – Pro-Motion, Timeless, Drive, Trend, Trend 2 being the others. We tested the Fate against the other new Storm release - the Phase V. We liked what we saw from the Fate. The motion of the Fate was just different enough from the Phase V that you could justify carrying both in your tournament bag. The Fate had a touch earlier breakpoint than the Phase V and a defined motion on the back end of the lane. Overall, I have the Fate slightly stronger than the Phase V, which is not exactly what I expected. The higher RG in the Fate would indicate it being a little longer than the Phase V. The reason it is not has to be the REX pearl cover is stronger than the clean R2S cover. I can see myself using the Fate in Games 3 and 4 of a 4-game league. It is my ball down from the 900 Global Altered Reality. The Storm Phase V is also an option in this ball reaction category.

The Storm Fever Pitch utilizes the new Tour Core and the new PWR+CTRL pearl urethane coverstock. Usually a thick shell means a great ball. I think that is true with this ball also. The orange pearl cover has some real shelf appeal. It is growing on me. The Fever Pitch is longer than the Pitch Black and corners better than the Pitch Blue. I definitely get more back end motion from it verses my Pitch Black. I use the Fever Pitch as my spare ball and have to be careful not to cut it short when shooting the 10-pin because it will hook past.

The Storm Gravity Evolve (SGE) utilizes the Shape-Lock HD Core and SPEC Solid Coverstock. We tested the SGE after league one night when the lanes were not extremely easy due to some carry down on the lane pattern. During league, the SGE gave me a reaction no one else was able to create, including me with my other equipment. The SGE is a strong, early rolling, ball, but with a defined hook motion at the breakpoint. With the SPEC Solid coverstock, I was a little surprised at the backend motion of the SGE due to my previous experiences with the SPEC coverstock on other bowling balls. The SGE (with factory finish) has more backend reaction than the Storm Crux Prime and Storm Pro Motion. I also threw my Roto Grip MVP during testing. I stood in the same place and targeted the same as well. My first shot with the MVP hit the right side of the 3-pin. This comparison illustrated and confirmed the strength of the SGE.

If you know me, I am not one who says every ball is a must have. The SGE is very good and would definitely be a No. 1 in your tournament bag. Personally, I am adding it to my bag in the No. 1 ball slot. Last point, the original Virtual Gravity was not one of my favorites even though it sold record number of units for Storm during its run. I tried four different drill patterns on the Virtual Gravity but no success for me. The lack of success kept me away from the SGE in the beginning but I am very glad I decided to drill one. Don’t let previous experience make you a doubter. Storm continues to thrive in combing old cores with new coverstocks and vice versa.

I would have to agree and say the smell is one of the more pleasant fragrances of recent releases. The only problem is it makes me hungry and I am gaining weight. The Storm HyRoad Maxx utilizes the NEX Solid cover and the proven, winning Inverted Fe2 weight block used on the HyRoad OG (one of my all-time favorite bowling balls). The Maxx is the earliest hooking ball in the HyRoad series with the factory cover on it. The hook potential was slightly less than the Storm Axiom. Therefore, I decided to shine my HyRoad Maxx to see if I could strike the same magic with it as I did when I shined the original Storm Hyroad. I used it Games 3 and 4 in our 4-game league after the break down started. The HyRoad Maxx was about 2 and 2 boards right of my Idol that I threw in Games 1 and 2. The Maxx handles the oil better than I thought. I was worried the shine could cause the ball to go too long but I didn’t see that issue. The Maxx did recover on my misses to the right. The carry was good as well. We tested my shiny Maxx against one with factor surface after league. The factory surface Maxx hooked sooner than the shiny one, about two feet sooner, but did not have the recovery on the back end like the shiny Maxx. We expected exactly this difference between the two different surfaces. The factory surface will allow me to stay right, with my target more in front of me, early in a tournament. The shiny Maxx will be a step down from the Idol and Axiom Solid when they begin to hook to soon. Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop to order yours. Continue to bowl up a Storm! #Stormnation

My most anticipated review of the year is finally here. The Storm HyRoad X didn't disappoint. The combination of R2X reactive coverstock and the Inverted Fe2 core (used in the original Hyroad) work well together. I knew the HyRoad X was going to be good when I drilled into it and the shell was almost two inches thick. Anytime the shell is that thick, the ball is going to be good (that is my rule of thumb).

The Storm HyRoad X was a stronger version of the original HyRoad. The RSX covertock provided ease through the fronts and a great continuation at the pocket. The ball exited the back of the lane to the left on most shots. The HyRoad X can be a benchmark ball.

We tested the HyRoad X along side the Storm Physix. The HyRoad X was about 5 and 3 right of the Physix. This should hold true for most of your high end balls.

The Storm Incite utilizes the new R4S hybrid coverstock with the Tensor core. The Tensor core is designed to place the thumb hole in a specific place in the core. The Incite can be fine tuned with this design and with coverstock adjustments. The Incite is Storm’s version of a lower-end asymmetrical ball to replace the symmetrical balls with ow weight holes. The Storm Infinite Physix showcases the REX pearl coverstock along with the Atomic core. Has anybody figured out the mystery scent? My guess was raspberry plum. The lower RG Atomic core wants to rev up early and control the front part of the lane. The REX pearl coverstock is a touch stronger than recent Storm pearl covers so I would say it is a rounded back end motion. We tested the Infinite Physix along with the Reality Check and saw any similarities between the two. We gave the Reality Check a slight edge in strength between the two. The Infinite Physix is going to be a 4 or 5 in my 6-ball tournament arsenal, depending on if I shine it or not. I am going to polish mine and give it a go later. #Stormnation

Test Results: Tested against a Match Up Hybrid with a 3 3/8" pin to PAP. The Intense ended up being about 3 and 2 deeper than my Match Up Hybrid. The ball started up about a foot sooner but retained the strong back end performance Storm balls are known for. In tournament play the Intense has been earlier hook than my Code Black as well, which is a nice compliment. I noticed some similarities to my Crux Pearl. On the league THS I was able to move in even more and send it to the dry and get it back with good carry in a normally tough carrying house. The Intense is a great fit to your tournament arsenal. # StormNation

The Intense Fire, the sequel to the Intense, one of my favorites, is finally here. I am already hearing about good results out of this ball from other Storm Staffers at the USBC Open Championship in Syracuse and other bowling venues. The Intense Fire features the RAD-E core and R3S hybrid coverstock. The colors in the Intense Fire are aesthetically pleasing and Storm hit a home run on the lava spice fragrance. The thing we noticed most about the Intense Fire was the strong but controllable motion at the backend of the lane.
We compared the Intense Fire to the original Intense. The pin distances were not the same and the Intense had a lot of mileage on it (no re-surfacing) since it was one of my favorite balls. In addition, there was a 9-Pin league just before I practiced so not a controlled test session. The Intense was more angular so it had better recovery down lane. The Intense Fire allowed me to challenge the dry area to the right without overreacting. The two balls had different ball motions so they will compliment each other. The Intense Fire will be a good second ball out of the bag when that hook spot starts to develop down lane. I look forward to getting some more lane time with it in tournament action. #Stormnation

The Storm Ion Max utilizes the NRG Solid reactive cover along with the Element weight block plus AI Core technology. Who doesn’t love a strawberry milkshake? The Ion Max smells great. The color scheme of the coverstock is pretty sharp as well. I had a chance to test it on the PBA Salvino oil pattern at a recent PBA50 regional. The Storm Ion Max looked very good. I threw it all seven games of qualifying. I also threw it on the same pattern during my ball review. The ball looked phenomenal. I see the Ion Max in the same category as the Eternity PI. The Ion Max is a touch longer than your Gem or Harsh Reality, with more backend motion.

Storm’s Ion Pro utilizes the TX-16 hybrid coverstock and the Element Tour AI core. My first thought was Wow. I drilled the Storm Ion Pro before I left for the PBA50 WSOB. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the lower differential number. The Storm Ion Pro was fantastic on the Ballard oil pattern playing outside of board 10 and it was the answer on the longer Petraglia oil pattern from inside board 15. I was very impressed with the Storm Ion Pro’s versatility. I left it at box finish and I think that is where I will leave it.

I think it is in that same range as the iQ Tour solid and below a Phase II.

The Storm iQ Tour 78U utilizes the Controll 78 urethane coverstock and the C3 weight block. With the rules changing on the PBA Tour, the iQ Tour 78U is Storm’s answer. A very good answer as well. My pitch Black is still a little earlier but the stronger core in the iQ Tour 78U helps make up for the cover not being as aggressive. The ball motion is very similar. The good part is you don’t have to worry about changing unless you bowl on the PBA Tour.

The Storm iQ Tour AI utilizes the RS2 Hybrid reactive cover along with the C3 A.I. Core. The Storm iQ Tour AI was an afterthought for me. I was late to the party to drill one but I am so glad that I did. I have thrown the Storm iQ Tour AI a bunch in the last two weeks. I have thrown it at the Greater Ozarks Tournament, a local best-ball tournament, and in league. The Storm iQ Tour AI has looked great at all three arenas, in different bowling centers that I tend to struggle in.

The Storm iQ Tour Emerald utilizes the C3 Centripetal Control Core and the R2S Pearl Reactive Coverstock. For the bowlers that missed out on the iQ Tour Pearl (Gold), this is your second chance to own one. As with the Gold version, the ball motion of this symmetrical pearl was predictable and pin carry good. I had better carry when I was going straighter through the front part of the lane, but that was probably because of my lack of revs. I feel all styles will enjoy this one though. I will use the Storm iQ Tour Emerald as a step down ball when the fronts start to burn early for the asymmetrical balls and stronger symmetricals. It can also be a benchmark ball in your tournament bag.

The Storm iQ Ruby continues the legacy of the iQ line. The sparkling red cover catches your eye then the performance on the lane is reminisce of the ball motion we have all come to expect. The iQ Ruby combines the proven R2S pearl cover with the C3 core. First impression is a little more hook than the iQ Emerald. Maybe the red color? I can see myself going to the iQ Ruby once my Phase V becomes too strong. I threw it in league last night. The only negative was it would recover when tugged into the oil; however, the iQ Ruby wasn’t designed for that purpose so not surprising. My overall impression was the iQ Ruby is a great addition to the Storm line of bowling balls.

The Storm Journey utilizes the TX-16 pearl coverstock and the F-8 weight block. The 7th ball of the Belmo line is the best one yet in my opinion. The TX-16 pearl coverstock compliments the F-8 core very well. My early impression is I will like this ball a lot. The Journey has a high diff and that shows in the backend motion. I have it below the 900 Global Zen Gold Label in regard to overall hook. I plan to throw it a bunch in league. I love the color combo as well.

Storm’s Lightning Blackout utilizes the REX Pearl coverstock and the Warp AI core. We add some surface to the Lightning Blackout – 3000 Abralon. The test pattern was a 3-day old league pattern with some open play on it as well. The pattern actually held up well as the testing went surprisingly well. We tested the Lightning Blackout up against the Storm The Road. Both balls use the REX cover. The Road is a hybrid and the Lightning Blackout is a pearl. It was clear during our test session that the Lightning Blackout was stronger and handled the oil better, especially on the misses left into the oil. This could have been the surface helping, but I still think the Lightning blackout was the better option on

Storm Match Up Black Pearl
Layout: Pin 4.5 inches and below the ring finger, with a weight hole below mid-line
Rev Rate: 300 rpm
Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

Ready.Aim.Fire – the Match Up Black Pearl is here. This ball is ready to make an impact. The combination of the Reactor Pearl Coverstock, the Stinger 2.0 core, and the 2000 Matte finish is a good match. I know there are a lot of bowlers just like me that like to see a solid color ball going down the lane so the Match Up Black Pearl will fit your eye.
I drilled this ball with a pin down layout with a low weight hole. The rings on the track flare were relatively tight and the bow-tie was at the top left edge of my middle finger. The total flare was about 4 inches.
We compared the Match Up Black Pearl to the Match Up Hybrid (a very under rated ball in its own right) and my all time favorite, the Hy-Road. I could stand and play very similar lines with both Match Ups, but the Hybrid was more angular. The difference in layouts could have been part of the reason. The Match Up Black Pearl definitely had a different motion though, which was expected and a good thing. The pearl coverstock of the Match Up Black Pearl created some hold area to the left and the matte finish helped blend out the motion at the end of the pattern without losing a strong motion on my misses to the right. My Hy-Road was one and one right of the Match Up Black Pearl and more angular also.
In my opinion, a THS is not when the Match Up Black Pearl is going to shine. I can see myself using this ball when I need a ball to roll up a little sooner to create a better angle to the pocket. The Match Up Black Pearl will also be useful when the back-end of the pattern is critical.
This is another great value ball by Storm. The Match Up Black Pearl provides a good amount of hook and hitting power for the price. #Stormnation

The Match Up B/R/B is here. It combines the Reactor Hybrid Coverstock and the Stinger 2.0 core. The Reactor coverstock provided easy length and the Stinger core provided plenty of power. The original Match Up Hybrid was a favorite of mine and a very under rated ball. This new color version continues the tradition of providing hook at a lower price.
We compared the Match Up B/R/B to the Storm iQ Tour Emerald. The BRB had a smoother ball motion than the iQ Tour Emerald. We played the BRB about 5 and 3 to the right of the iQ Tour Emerald. The B/R/B was a little more sensitive to the oil on the fresh but this went away as the shot broke down after a couple games. I also got to throw it on a tournament shot when the track area was burnt. The BRB performed well on this condition. It allowed me to throw it to the hook spot and not stand up too quick. This type of lane condition is becoming more prevalent in today's game so the BRB will thrive. #Stormnation

Went with a drill on my Match Up Hybrid that I normally would not use. I wanted something different than my typical drills so I asked Steve “Dive” Divers to layout the ball out for me – he graciously obliged. Steve hit a homerun with the drill. First game out of the box in mthe Monday Night Peterson Point League was 279. Keep in mind this is a tough carrying house. The Match Up Pearl let me stay further right on the THS, which allowed the ball to go through the pins correctly. The Match Up Hybrid picks up the mid-lane sooner than my Match Pearl, but still retains a strong back-end motion. The Match Up Hybrid is a nice blend of solid and pearl. As mentioned in other reviews for the Match Up Hybrid, the ball matches up (no pun intended) well on most conditions other than heavier patterns.

The Storm Night Road utilizes the proven Inverted Fe2 core and REX pearl reactive coverstock. The HyRoad line continues to produce winning balls. The all-new Night Road is the next ball in this line. We tested the Night Road with the factory 4K finish. We tested against the Storm Fate. The Night Road was about a 4 and 2 right of the Fate. The Fate handles oil better than the Night Road. The Night Road has easy length then a strong backend motion on fresh backends. The Night Road will be best for medium to light oil conditions.

The Storm Electrify Solid tested very similar to the Roto Grip Hustle Camo. The Electrify Solid utilizes the new Ignition Core and the R2X Hybrid reactive cover. We tested against the Helios Idol and Altered Reality. The Nova reminded me of a stronger Reality. The Nova is a little sooner than the Reality so I don’t feel like it will be as versatile but still more versatile than 90% of strong balls. During testing, the Nova got better the deeper we moved. We tested on a lighter oil pattern with crispy outsides so not the ideal condition for the Nova. The Altered Reality performed the best because the pattern fit it better. The Nova passed the eye test. I feel it is going to be a real good one. Arturo Quintero just highlighted it on the PBA Player’s Championship telecast. The cherry apple slush scent is a bonus. #Stormnation

The Premier line has a long history of producing some of the best releases to date. The OC fits the bill. The OC utilizes the Catalyst Core, the same core used throughout the Crux series. The Catalyst Core is wrapped in the new GI-20 pearl reactivecoverstock. I have been able to use the OC on some senior house pattern tournaments and have been impressed. The recovery and carry have been the two most impressive features. A lot of balls have the recovery but don’t carry. The OC possesses both qualities. During one recent senior tournament, I had 5 different instances when the messenger flew across the pin deck in the air and took out the 10-pin. Wow! I am not even a high rpm guy. The OC will be able to be used as your 1A or 1B tournament ball. I don’t see it being effective late in a tournament unless you shine it, which I have seen and it looks good shined. The OC is a longer, stronger version of the Crux Prime in my opinion.Continue to bowl up a Storm!Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop to order yours.#Stormnation

I normally do not read other reviews before I throw new releases or write about them because I don’t want to distort my view. In addition, the reviews differ so much from bowler to bowler. I had a feeling the reviews may be more in line with each other and I was correct. The consistent theme I found in the reviews I read was the Storm Parallax is earlier than most shiny asymmetrical bowling balls and provided great carry. This matches what I am seeing with my Storm Parallax.

The Storm Parallax utilizes the Traction X7 hybrid reactive coverstock along with a new core called the Aeroflo Core. The Aeroflo Core is designed with a hole in it to provide flexibility in drilling during the new no-hole era in which we live. I don’t know how all the science comes together but Storm created a great addition to their already stout line of bowling balls. I can see myself using the Parallax after my solid asymmetrical (Roto Grip UFO) and prior to my beloved Storm AstroPhysix. I also see myself using the Parallax longer and just making moves left with my feet and target. For a shiny ball, it blends the cliff-defined condition very well. Got to love the funnel cake smell as well. Takes me back to my childhood and the local carnival rides! Folks – this is going to be a good one!

The Storm Phase AI utilizes the TX-16 pearl reactive cover along with the Velocity weight block plus AI Core technology. Can the Phase AI live up to the OG – Phase II? Only time will tell. I threw the Phase AI the last five frames of game 4 of Monday night league after my Roto Grip Optimum Idol Solid quit carrying. I did not have much luck with getting lined up or carrying. I went high the first two shots then 8-pin, 10-pin, and 8-pin. Lol. During my ball review of the Phase AI, I had much better success. I did see a tendency for the ball to miss the break point but I think it was more indicative of the leftover league shot than the Phase AI. I need more time throwing it in different bowling centers before making

The Storm Phaze III utilizes the Velocity Core and R3S Hybrid reactive coverstock. This great looking, great smelling, new release is much anticipated. I was at a recent senior tournament and there were so many Phaze III balls on the rack that I lost count. The one thing that stands out for me is it's responsiveness at the hook spot. The PIII is as responsive of a ball that I have thrown. The responsiveness could be curved with a little surface prep. The Phaze III is cleaner up front than it's original counterpart, the Phaze II. The Phaze III will be a nice step down from your No. 1 and No. 2 balls in your bag. The Phaze III could actually serve as your No. 2 ball in most cases. The Phaze III is a good one.

The Velocity Core was used in the Storm El Nino 2000. Now I understand why I had a lot of success with the El Nino 2000. The Phase V is what I have been looking for in that transition ball. I have had a chance to use it in league and tournament. The Phase V is very clean in the front part of the lane with a strong move on the back end. I have been using it in Games 3 and 4 of a 4-game league. It is my ball down from the 900 Global Altered Reality. The new Storm Fate is also an option in this ball reaction category.

The Storm Physix utilizes the new Atomic Core and the NRG Hybrid Coverstock. The aim here was to fill the reaction slot between the Storm Sure Lock and Storm Code X. We have success! We saw that exact intended motion - not as early as the Sure Lock but a little earlier breakpoint than the Code X. The Storm Physix had good continuation at the pocket, which was the case with the Storm HyRoad X as well. The Storm Physix will be a good option on medium to longer patterns for us rev challenged seniors and the speed dominant bowlers.
Check out Liz Johnson throwing the Storm Physix for a 300-game and tournament title at the 2018 Sam Ho Korea International Cup held this month. The ball looked really impressive.

The Storm Physix Blackout utilizes the NeX pearl reactive cover along with the Atomic A.I. Core. I have finally found the Blackout that fits my game. The Physix Blackout has the shape that looks good to my eye. I tested the Physix Blackout on a not so ideal condition and the ball still performed. I have thrown it since and the ball is impressive.

The core is wrapped inthe Rev Control urethane coverstock. Due to some enhancements to the coverstock, the Pitch Purple is able to deliver a big backend motion, which is a compliment, not overlap, to the Pitch Black. The Pitch Purple gives Storm another option in its already strong line of urethane balls. The Pitch Purple definitely fills a gap I had in my tournament bag. The Storm PRO-Motion utilizes the new Piston Core and the SPEC Solid Coverstock. This is the best Belmo designed ball to date. The SPEC coverstock is the same used in the Crux Prime. The difference is the PRO-Motion is cleaner through the front than the Crux Prime but has a defined break point move from the Piston Core that the Crux Prime doesn't have. We tested the PRO-Motion on lanes that had a weekend's worth of carry down from open play and the ball still performed well once we moved into around fourth arrow to get away from the hang area. I typically don't get that reaction out of a solid from that deep inside. Without question, I was very impressed. I feel the results match the hype. When compared to the Phase II, the PRO-Motion was a little cleaner through the front but still controlled the mid-lane very well and good continuation though the pocket. The PRO-Motion is going to be a great benchmark ball with great durability thanks to the low absorption rate of the SPEC coverstock.

The Storm Revenant utilizes the Vector core and R3S pearl reactive coverstock. This is my most anticipated releases in some time. I have been wanting a replacement for the Spectre. From what I saw, the Revenant is longer than the Spectre but still a special ball. We compared the Storm Absolute to the new Storm Revenant. The Revenant stored energy better and was sharper on the back-end compared to the Absolute. The Revenant is a stronger version of a Hy-Road in my opinion.

I was able to do something with the Revenant that I have never done. I went out a put an honor score with it the second game I threw it. I was able to shoot 300 in my Monday Night League. As you may guess, the Revenant already has a special place in my heart and bowling bag.

Test Results: What a great ball – smells good too (Gingerbread Smores)! The Storm SoniQ utilizes the Centripetal HD (high density) Core and R2S Pearl Reactive Coverstock. The R2S coverstock was also used in the Hy-Road and IQ Tour balls, and a key part of their success. Storm hit a home run with the combination of this core and shell. The pearl coverstock allows for easy length through the front part of the lanes and the low RG of the high-density core keeps it from skidding through the break point. The back-end motion is strong with continuation through the pins. For me, it is a great combination that allows me to be able to use this ball on a lot of different conditions. I will probably choose a stronger ball with surface for the heavier oil patterns but the SoniQ will be one of the first balls I switch to once the pattern break down starts to occur. Looking forward to having this ball in my arsenal for a long time. #Stormnation

The Storm Spectra utilizes the cutting-edge Vector Core and the R3S pearl reactive cover. All I can after throwing the Storm Spectre in league is WOW! The R3S pearl coverstock was so clean through the fronts then big back-end motion. A true continuous back-end motion. The Storm Spectre will be a step down from the Zen. There are very few times that I fall in love with a ball right away but the Spectre is already a favorite. The Spectre falls into the must have category for me. #Stormnation

The Storm Summit utilizes the new TX-23 hybrid coverstock and Centripetal weight block. We tested the Summit alongside the Roto Grip Clone on a house shot. The Summit has a RG of 2.46, which is one of the lowest in recent memories. The low RG is paired with a 0.056 Diff. What does this combination produce? Well, the Summit is a very useable ball. I threw it at the PBA50 World Series of Bowling on the Weber pattern and had a good look from around 4th arrow late in the squad. I would not have thought a ball with that low of an RG would be good from that deep but it looked really good. I think the Summit will be more versatile than people expect. The Summit hooked about 1-2 foot sooner than the Roto Grip Clone.

The Storm Summit Ascent utilizes the R2S Reactive cover along with the Centripetal HD weight block plus AI Core. The Summit Ascent revs up quick but the R2S coverstock gets it through the fronts on medium to heavy oil, and provides stored energy. Is the Storm Summit Ascent the new-age iQ Tour? Only time will tell.

I feel that it’s versatility is going to be the Summit Ascent’s strong point.

The Storm Summit Teak utilizes the TX-23 pearl coverstock and the Centripetal HD weight block. The coverstock is the big brother to the Phase II cover. My first impression is the ball is going to be a great option as a step down from the bigger bowling balls when they burn up. The Summit Peak was very clean in the front part of the lane and had good pop on the back end of the lane. I threw it up against the 900 Global Sublime. The Sublime was a little earlier and not as much on the back end. Both these balls are great options. I named the Sublime the ball of 2023. The Summit Peak is going to make the run at ball of the year in 2024.

The Storm Super Nova utilizes the new Ignition Core and the NEX Solid reactive cover. We tested against the original Storm Nova, which was a hybrid. The Storm Super Nova is impressive. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites the more I throw it. I like the versility and how easy it is to control the pocket with it. The Super Nova was a touch earlier than the Nova but still had continuation on the backend. The Super Nova will be my No. 1 (first ball used on heavy oil) in my 6-ball arsenal. #Stormnation

The Storm Super SoniQ utilizes the Centripetal HD Core and the NRG Hybrid Coverstock used originally on the PhysiX. The aim here was to fill the reaction slot between the Storm Phase II and Storm Tour IQ. We have success! The Super SoniQ is a little longer than the Phase II and more continuous off the end of the pattern. The Super SoniQ is definitely a step up in strength from the Tour IQ. It gives bowlers a good blend of midlane and backend.

Storm’s The Road utilizes the REX Hybrid coverstock and the Inverted Fe2 weight block. The weight block is surrounded by A.I. Core Technology. The Road is the next ball in the HyRoad line. The HyRoad was one of my all-time favorites. The Road can be thought of as an amped up HyRoad. The REX cover is stronger than R2S cover used in the HyRoad, which helps control that mid-lane reaction. I think The Road is going be useable on more conditions than the HyRoad. I have been using The Road as a step down from the DNA Coil type balls during league the last two weeks. My first two league games with it have been over 250. You may have to be careful picking up your ball off the ball rack because The Road is very similar in appearance to the DNA Coil and Phase II. At least that is a concern for us senior bowlers. Lol.

The Storm Trend2 utilizes NRG Hybrid coverstock along with the Piston core. This Piston core has a lower differential than the one used in the Trend. The lower diff prevents the Trend2 from being too strong on the back end. The Trend2 already has some teeth on the front end due to the NRG coverstock. I have seen this ball used by various bowlers in tournaments and it has looked really good on most conditions. The Trend2 reminds me a lot of the Axiom Pearl. I don’t think you need both in your tournament bag. #Stormnation

The Storm Virtual Energy Blackout utilizes the REX pearl coverstock and HD (high density) weight block. We tested the VEBO alongside the Storm Dark Code on a house shot. The VEBO was very similar in shape to the Dark Code. Both balls are very long for me then want to turn left at the back end. I will say the VEBO is a touch stronger overall than the Dark Code, which could have been from layout differences. I feel the VEBO will be condition specific for me. I will use it late in blocks once we are forced left. The ball is very clean at the front of the lane. The VEBO gives me that old school Storm vibe of easy length and tons of strength on the back end. Storm as been doing it the best for many years!
