The new 900 Global Altered Reality features the S84 Response Pearl coverstock wrapped around the Disturbance Asymmetric weight block found in the original Reality. The RG at 15lbs is 2.49 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .018. This ball is a great complement to the original Reality. The Altered Reality is about 3-5 boards of overall less hook for me than the original Reality. It is much more versatile for me than the original, meaning I am able to throw the Altered on a wider variety of lane conditions. Where the original Reality is more suited for longer or heavier volume patterns, the Altered is best on the medium or broken down patterns. The box finish on the Altered Reality makes this ball cleaner and more continuous down lane. The Altered Reality has a quicker response to friction and is more angular on the backend than its predecessor. When the Reality starts leaving the weak corner pins, I can pull out the Altered, and just send it to the dry and watch it come roaring back and shredding racks. This ball is a must have for every serious bowler.

The new 900 Global Eternity features the all new designed Epoch Asymmetric core and wraps it in the S84 Response Pearl coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss. The 15 pound Eternity features a RG of 2.49 with a differential of .050 and an intermediate diff of .014. I drilled my Eternity the same as my Reality Check which was 5 x 4 x 4, this put the pin under my middle finger. The Eternity for me, goes about 2 feet longer than my Reality Check. It has a more defined backend motion and better continuation through the pins. The Eternity is a great compliment to the Reality Check. The Check can be the first ball out of the bag, but when it starts to read a little to early or loses its punch through the pins, I can pull out the Eternity, stand in basically the same place as I left off with the Reality Check and get right back to striking. The Eternity will allow me to keep chasing the oil left but will allow me to open my launch angle much more than I could with the Reality Check.

The new 900 Global Eternity Pi features the Reserve Blend 901 solid coverstock combined with the Epoch asymmetrical core. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.49 with a differential of .050 and an intermediate differential of .014. The Eternity Pi is much stronger than the original Eternity. This is of course due to the solid cover stock on the Pi compared to the pearl Eternity. The Pi starts up very early, reading the lane a good 3 to 5 feet sooner than the original Eternity, and has a strong continuous motion down the lane. The Pi is an even stronger heavy oil option than the 900 Global Reality. The Pi hooks about 2 to 3 boards more than the Reality and has more controlled backend motion than the Reality. If you bowl on longer, heavier patterns, the new Etenity Pi is the ball you need to have in your bag!

The 900 Global Harsh Reality features the new Reserve Blend 902 solid coverstock and the Disturbance A.I. asymmetric core. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .054 and an intermediate diff of .019. Finished at 2000-grit abralon, the Harsh Reality needs a good deal of oil to be effective. Once the Reality was discontinued, you knew 900 Global would have to release something they were sure would be able to fill its shoes. They did not disappoint…for me, the Harsh Reality hooks a few boards more than the original Reality and has the same strong backend motion which made the original such a fan favorite. The combination of cover and A.I. core make this the only ball you will need for the longer and heavier volume oil patterns. If you find the out of box finish is a bit too early, try bringing the surface up to 4000. This will provide a little more push through the front of the lane. Just remember, this ball is designed to hook in oil and that is exactly what it does!

The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl features the new Reserve Blend 902 pearl coverstock and the Disturbance A.I. asymmetric core. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .054 and an intermediate diff of .019. This ball is the perfect complement to the original Harsh Reality and then some. When the original starts to burn up and roll forward too soon, this is the perfect ball to pull out of your bag. The Harsh Reality Pearl can still handle the heavy volume oil just like its predecessor, but the pearl provides an added punch on the backend. While the original Harsh Reality is limited to how long I can stay with that ball, the pearl version offers much more usability on a wider array of lane conditions. Both the solid and the pearl need oil to be effective, but the pearl cover provides length on the medium conditions, as well as transitioned lane conditions. The Harsh Reality solid and pearl are a great one, two punch!!

The Origin is 900 Global’s newest asymmetrical release. It features an all-new aggressive Reserve Blend 93 hybrid coverstock. Inside is the new Ellipse A.I. core. At 15 pounds, the Origin has a low RG of 2.48 with a .050 differential, and a .020 intermediate differential. Looking at the low RG and high intermediate differential, you may think this ball will read early and roll out on the backend, but that is certainly not the case with Origin. The cover is finished with Power Edge which helps provide ease through the front while providing good midlane traction. The backend of the Origin is strong and continuous and the A.I core provides excellent pin action. This is one of the best releases from 900 Global and definitely a ball of the year candidate in my opinion. The versatility of this ball makes it usable on a wide range of conditions by many different styles of bowlers. The Origin is one of the few balls that I can use all night long on a typical league condition. It is also a great tournament ball for medium to heavy oil conditions.

The new Reality Check features features the successful Distrubance core wrapped in a new S84 Hybrid coverstock. This combination makes the Reality Check a very versatile ball on medium and heavy volume patterns. This new addition to the 900 Global line provides the same predictable ball motion as the original Reality but with a more continuous backend motion. Compared to the original Reality, the Check has a later breakpoint of about two to three feet. This makes the Check much more usable on a wider variety of patterns. While it may not be the first ball out of the bag on longer, heavy patterns, it will see more than enough play on the medium patterns. It allows me to keep my angles straighter early in the block and just keep chasing the pattern left as transition occurs. If you are looking for a ball that you will definitely get a lot of use out of, look no further than the Reality Check.

The new 900 Global Sublime is the first 900 Global ball to feature the A.I. core technology. The Immersed Symmetric A.I. core is wrapped in the new Reserve Blend 802 hybrid coverstock. At 15 pounds this ball has a RG of 2.47 and a differential of .056. Drilling this ball 5x4x2 puts the pin above my middle finger and provides additional length through the front part of the lane. The Sublime is a very even reaction type ball. It has a smooth arcing motion on medium to medium-dry lane conditions. The A.I. core technology provides superb hitting power through the pins. This ball can be used on many lane conditions but is best suited for medium volume oil patterns. The Sublime will not be the most hooking ball, or the ball with the sharpest backend, but it will be the ball that gets a lot of use. This is a great benchmark ball with the added bonus of the A.I core. You need to throw this ball to understand just how real the difference in this core technology is. The first Global ball to feature this core, but certainly won’t be the last!

The 900 Global Sublime Focus features the Immersed symmetric AI core and wraps it in the Reserve Blend 804 solid coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .056. I drilled my Sublime Focus at 4 x 4 x 2 which puts the pin above the middle finger. This ball flat out hooks with its out of the box finish. The more I throw this ball the better and better it gets. The lane shine really helps this ball get down the lane a little bit and store a little more energy. Don’t let the shine fool you though, this ball still needs a good amount of oil to be effective. My second night using the Sublime Focus, I shot 300 the second game playing around 4th arrow sending it out to about 7 or 8 and having it come back. The AI core provided the strength to just kick out the corners enough for me to finish of the 300 game. I was not able to finish the night with the ball, as the lane conditions just did not hold up long enough. If you bowl on a house shot with a good amount of oil, the Sublime Focus is for you.

The 900 Global Wolverine features the S70 Pearl Reactive coverstock wrapped around the Lacerate 2.0 Symmetric core. The RG at 15lbs is 2.54 and the differential is .053. This ball could be the sleeper ball of the year. This ball fills a gap that I have been looking to fill for quite some time. The Wolverine is great for broken down patterns and later in tournament blocks. The ball is super clean and I would categorize the response time as medium…not too quick and not too slow. A lot of people say this ball reminds them of an original HyRoad, but for me the Wolverine is much more controllable and predictable. Where the HyRoad for me had a tendency to miss the spot, the Wolverine starts up a little sooner than the HyRoad and doesn’t really get the chance to hydroplane past the breakpoint. If the lane has a friction spot to throw to, this ball will be in its glory.

The ball is super clean and has a medium response time. For me, this ball is just throw it right and watch it go left. There is no quit in this wolverine. In comparison to the original Wolverine, the Dark Moss hooks a little earlier than the original…maybe about a two to three board difference. If the lane has a friction spot to throw to, this ball will be in its glory.

The new 900 Global Xponent features an all new 801 Reserve Solid coverstock with the Shrapnel 2.0 core which was last seen in the Ordinance C4. At 15 pounds, the RG is 2.48 and the differential is .042. When drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above the bridge) this ball reminds me of one of my all-time favorites from the past…the Dare Devil Trick. The Xponent is the ultimate ‘benchmark’ ball. It’s one of those type of balls that doesn’t hook the most, doesn’t have the strongest backend, but it just strikes A LOT!!! The Xponent blends out the wet/dry, it doesn’t respond too quickly when you miss in the dry to soon, and it has enough teeth to handle the puddle in the middle of the lane. This ball will be the first out of my bag every time. If it isn’t the right ball, the reaction of the Xponent will show me which other ball I need to pull out of the bag. The Xponent will get a lot of play, the only things it isn’t great on are the extremes…oil and dry, but for everything in between this ball is a winner!

The 900 Global Xponent Pearl features the same Shrapnel 2.0 symmetric core as the original Xponent, but this time it is wrapped in the Reserve Blend 702 pearl coverstock. At 15 pounds, the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .042. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above middle finger), the pearl Xponent is a great compliment to the original. The pearl cover finished with Reacta Gloss allows this ball to clear even the dries of heads with ease. The Xponent pearl has a much stronger backend reaction compared to the original. The pearl is about 3 to 5 less boards of total hook with a much more defined motion on the backend. The original Xponent is a great benchmark ball, it won’t wow you with amount of hook or angular backend…it just provides a consistent, controlled reaction. When the solid Xponent starts to lose its hitting power and you leave those weak corner pins, switch to the Xponent pearl in the same part of the lane and get back to striking! These two balls make a great one, two combo for medium conditions as well as most league conditions.

The Zen is back!! The new Zen 25 features the new Reserve Batch 83 Pearl coverstock with the Meditate A.I. core. At 15 pounds the Zen 25 has a low RG of 2.48 with a differential of .053. I drilled my Zen 25 with the same layout as my original Zen which I liked so much. The layout is 5x5x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. Comparing the 25 to the original, I see 2 to 3 boards more total hook from the 25. The RB 83 cover has some serious “teeth” to it so this ball reads the midlane very well for a pearl and has a strong continuous arc motion on the backend. I didn’t think the original Zen could be improved upon, but 900 Global has done it. The new Zen 25 is much more controlled and predictable without sacrificing any total hook or hitting power. This ball is one that will be in my bag for a long time! Don’t miss out on this one…this ball is a definite winner!!!

The new 900 Global Zen Gold Label features the same Mediate Symmetric core in the other Zens, but this one is wrapped in the Reserve Blend 801 Pearl coverstock. At 15 pounds, the RG is 2.49 and the differential is .051. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge) compared to my original Zen drilled the same way, the Gold Label is much cleaner (about 4-5 feet) and has a much stronger, almost skid/flip reaction on the backend. I was not as big of a fan as the original Zen as much of the bowling community was. I did like it, but for me it was a ball that I couldn’t throw for more than two games as it just didn’t carry the corners when I had to really feed it to the right. I don’t have that problem with the Gold Label. This ball just keeps on coming when you throw it to the dry. For me the original Zen and the Gold Label make a great 1-2 combination.

The Zen Soul features the same Meditate core that is found in the Zen and Zen Master but wraps a new S77 Response Hybrid coverstock around it. The new Zen Soul takes the best of its predecessors and combines them into one ball. Then Zen Soul can handle the higher volume and longer patterns as was the Master, however the Soul adds the backend reaction of the original Zen. And just like the other two Zen balls, this one has the same great hitting power and pin carry. In comparing the Soul to the Master, I have the Soul as about three to four boards less overall hook. This is mainly due to the Soul being much cleaner in the front part of the lane. So when the Master stops kicking out the corner pins and the Zen isn’t strong enough to get to the pocket, the Soul will be the ball that will keep you striking.

The 900 Global line introduces its newest urethane entry, the Zen U. The Zen U features the all new S35 Urethane Plus coverstock, and the highly successful Meditate symmetric core. The Zen U in 15 pounds features a RG of 2.56 and a differential of .027. I drilled my Zen U 4 x 4 x 2, just a basic drilling which puts the pin above my ring finger. The Zen U is not your grandfather’s urethane ball. The Zen U reads the lane early just like most solid urethane balls, the difference with the Zen U is the continuation of the back of the pattern. Where most urethane balls just keep going forward, the Zen U definitely has a more arcing backend motion. As I do not drill many urethane balls and this is the first Global urethane I have thrown, it is hard to compare them. However, I can say that I have drilled a Pitch Black and a Pitch Purple. For me the Zen U fits right in between these two. It reads early like the Pitch Black but has a little more left on the backend but not as much as the Pitch Purple which for me was more like an entry level reactive reaction than a urethane reaction. The Zen U will be a great go to ball on the short sport patterns or a lighter oil condition where you are looking for a controlled reaction. This ball does not lack in hitting power for a urethane ball. Being able to stay right, I was able to throw messengers at those “urethane” corner pins that stayed standing.

If hook is what you want, hook is what you will get with the Absolute Nirvana. The third entry into the Nirvana line is the strongest one yet. For as strong as this ball is it is still clean thru the fronts. It picks up very well in the midlane and has a strong continuous motion on the backend. This ball for me is about 3-4 boards stronger than the Mastermind Strategy but with a stronger move at the breakpoint. This Nirvana needs oil to get the maximum performance out of it. It is really good on medium to heavy oil conditions and also longer patterns. Bowlers with higher ball speeds or lower rev rates will really like this ball. If you liked the Ultimate Nirvana, but want something that picks up earlier then this is the ball to go to.

The Edge Pearl has a low RG of 2.487 and a differential of .050. This ball is the perfect complement to the Edge Solid. When the solid version is starting to burn up a little too soon and you start to leave the weak corner pins, that’s when the Edge Pearl comes in to play. The pearl version gets about 3-5 feet more push down the lane and has a stronger backend than the solid. I still would not describe this ball as skid/flip, but it does have a more defined breakpoint than the solid. Brunswick compares this ball to the Melee Jab and the reaction is very similar to that ball. For me the Edge Pearl is a little less overall hook than the Melee Jab. This ball is best suited for medium to lighter conditions or when the fresh house pattern has gotten beaten up a little bit. The Edge Pearl is a great addition to any arsenal for broken down patterns, and at its price point it’s hard to find a ball that compares to it.

The Edge Solid has a low RG of 2.487 and a differential of .050. This ball is my new benchmark ball. It is the first one out of my bag and many times the only one out of my bag. If it is not the right ball, it tells me right away if I need something a little earlier rolling and stronger, or something longer and stronger. This ball can handle a good amount of volume but is at its best on medium patterns and the typical house shot conditions. It blends out the wet/dry reaction you get in many house shots. This ball is not going to wow you by its motion but it will fill the frames with a lot of X’s. It is very controlled at the breakpoint. It skids easily through the front part of the line and picks up nicely in the midlane and has a very controlled arcing motion through the pins. If you are looking for a ball that you can use on a wide variety of conditions this is the ball to consider. And at the Edge’s price point you can’t go wrong!

Of all the summer releases, this is the one I was most excited for. Brunswick has not had a ball like this in their arsenal in a long time. If you are a serious tournament bowler, you need THIS ball in your bag. If you are looking for big time hook and a ball that makes a U-turn on the backend then look elsewhere. If you want a ball that keeps you in the pocket on the tough tournament conditions, you’ve found it with the Magnitude 035. The way this ball smooths out a pattern is unlike anything I’ve seen. It will blend out the wet/dry patterns like no other. Throw the ball to the dry and it does not over react, it just arcs back to the pocket. Keep the ball in the oil and the coverstock is strong enough to dig in and drive through the pins. Like I said the overall reaction of this ball is not going to wow you, but then again if you like striking a lot on broken down and tougher patterns, then it just might.

The third installment of the Quantum series takes the best features of the previous two and combines them to make the Black Quantum. The core is the same as the previous two Quantums, however the Classic Black features the Relativity Flip solid cover. I drilled my Classic Black 60 x 5 x35 which puts the pin right above my bridge. This ball is very clean through the front part of the lane with a strong arcing, almost flip like motion on the backend and drives through the pins! The motion of the Classic Black Quantum reminds me a lot of the reaction I got from my old C-System Versa Max except a much stronger ball overall. Just throw the ball to the friction and watch it go! This ball will work well on medium patterns and most house conditions and is suitable for all styles.

The DV8 Freakshow is freakishly good at it's price point. Don't let the price tag fool you, this is a lot of bang for the buck. The Freakshow's cover glides easily through the heads, but it's low RG core really starts to make the ball pick up in the midlane and produces a nice continuous arc on the backend. This ball really drives hard thru the pins making it's carry percentage insane! This ball definitely performs its best on broken down conditions. When the stronger balls are starting to burn up just a little too soon, that's the time the Freakshow will excel. This is a ball every tournament bowler should have in their bag. At this price, you just can't go wrong. Step right up and see the Freakshow!!

The third entry for the vandal nameplate is definitely the charm of the group. While the original vandal and the vandal smash are both great balls, the destroy takes the best of both and combines them into one outstanding performance bowling ball. You get the ease thru the fronts like the original vandal, and the traction in oil of the vandal smash. . I drilled the Destroy 60 x 5 x 35 which puts the pin above my bridge. The Vandal Destroy glides easily thru the fronts, really controls the midlane better than any other ball I’ve seen, and has a strong continuous move on the backend and thru the pins. This ball has the best carry percentage I have ever seen when it hits the pocket. This ball just strikes a lot! It is best suited for medium conditions. When the Vandal Smash is starting to lose energy and leave those flat corner pins, take out the Destroy and watch the pins fly! All bowling styles will find a use for this piece!

This ball redefines the term “hook in a box”. The Cash is the most hooking ball ever released. It’s not just the amount of hook that is impressive; it’s where the ball hooks. This is not one of those balls that hooks at the arrows and is done. The Cash gets good length for the strength of the cover and really digs in in the midlane and stays continuous on the backend. This ball allows you to chase the oil in and throw it to the dry and still have the ball come back with good continuation and power thru the pins. This ball does need to have oil to have success. Bowlers who are speed dominant will love the Cash. If you bowl on heavy oil or longer patterns this is the ball for you!

The second Radical release using the shape shifter core which can be drilled asymmetrically (pin up) or symmetrically (pin down) is more responsive on the backend than the original Fix. I drilled my Quick Fix pin down because I really didn’t have a strong pin down symmetrical ball in my arsenal. The Quick Fix, even with its dull finish provides good length through the heads and midlane and a strong arcing move on the backend through the pins. This ball is very versatile; it works well on a variety of lane conditions. It has the length to get down the lane when the heads start to break down, but it also can handle the medium to heavy volume patterns. I would classify this ball as a strong benchmark ball. It will be the first and most times only ball out of your bag on typical house conditions. On tougher sport conditions it will smooth out the pattern and if it’s not the right ball for the condition, it will give you a very clear picture of what you need. League players and tournament players will love having this piece in their bag. If you’re looking for a little extra out of the ball, I suggest drilling it pin up to get the asymmetrical reaction. The drill sheet included in the box will give you every possible reaction you could ask for from this ball.

The Roto Grip Attention Star features the Momentus AV core with A.I. technology wrapped in the eTrax Plus pearl reactive coverstock. At 15 pounds the Attention Star has a low rg of 2.48 with a differential of .049 and an intermediate diff of .017. I generally drill all my stuff the same at 5x4x2 but with this one I went with a little shorter pin 4.5x4x2. This ball has quickly become my favorite ball in my bag. I have five series with this ball, the lowest being 733; and two 800 series (802 and 827) along with one 300 game. This ball is like a cheat code for bowling. For an asymmetrical ball, the backend motion is not nearly as quick as most, and the pearl coverstock is not a quick response cover on this ball. Errant shots to the right that encounter friction early do not overhook. The ball just has a nice, controlled backend motion on these shots and finds it way back to the pocket. Shots pulled in the oil are no problem either, as the Attention Star is strong enough to handle moderate amounts of oil. The AI core technology is apparent as the off hits still send pins flying. This ball has certainly caught my attention as well as many of the other bowlers in my league. I would recommend this ball to anyone!!

The new Roto Grip Attention Star S2 takes the Momentous AV+ AI core and wraps it in the Etrax Plus Hybrid coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. At 15 pounds, the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .049 and an intermediate differential of .017. The original Attention Star is without a doubt, my favorite ball, so I could not wait to drill the S2. I drilled the S2 exactly the same as my original Attention Star with the pin above my ring finger and the mass bias kicked out to the right of my thumb. The original Attention Star was super clean but still would not miss the spot when it encountered the dry backend, and the motion was very continuous on the backend. The S2 when compared to the original, is much more aggressive and much sooner for me. The S2 reads about 3-5 feet sooner than the original and is much more continuous front to back. The first time I threw the S2 and I started going high pocket or through the face, I switched to the original standing in the same place and I left a light hit ten pin. So for me the overall hook of the S2 is about 3-4 boards more than the original. The two balls make a great one, two punch, but the S2 definitely needs oil in the front part of the lane to be usable for me. Luckily, the center I bowl leagues in, has enough oil to start out with the S2 but I usually need t switch to the original Attention Star by the third game if not sooner. These two balls will always be in my bag for league and tournaments.

The new Roto Grip Clone features a reimagined E.T. Core wrapped in the OptiTrax solid reactive coverstock. The 15-pound version features an RG of 2.51 with a differential of .056 and an intermediate differential of .016. Drilled at 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger, the Clone for me fit right in between the original UFO and UFO Alert in terms of total hook. The new Clone which is finished with Reacta Gloss starts up about 2 to 3 feet later than the original UFO, but about a foot or two sooner than the Alert. With the increased density of the Clone’s weight block, the Clone reads the midlane much better than the Alert and provides a more angular backend than the original. This ball is best suited for medium to heavy volumes, although the Reacta shine finish may not be responsive enough to start with on the heavier volumes. IF you were a fan of either the UFO or UFO Alert, you will easily find a spot in your bag for the new Clone.

The third installment in the Dare Devil line is the hybrid Danger. This ball uses the same Madcap core found in the original Dare Devil and the Trick but features a new Psyche Hybrid coverstock. If you liked the first two Dare Devils, you will love this ball. When the Trick is burning up a little too soon and leaving the weak corner pins, and your Dare Devil is not reading the pattern soon enough, that’s when it is time to pull out the Danger. The Danger revs quickly but the cover provides easy length and a strong and aggressive move at the breakpoint. I have found that with the polished box finish, I have a hard time throwing it in league due to the wet/dry house pattern. The polish prevents it from reading in the puddle in the middle of the lane and the ball sometimes responds to quickly to all of the dry to the right. The Danger can be sanded to read sooner, but I have found this ball to be a great asset on flatter sport conditions. I am able to open up my angles with this ball and as long as I don’t get to quick with the shot it will get back to the pocket with ease. This ball just like the two before it, provides exceptional hitting power and pin carry. Given the versatility of this cover, I would suggest this ball to just about any type of bowler on a wide variety of lane conditions. Do not be afraid to adjust the cover to get the reaction you are looking for.

The new Roto Grip Duo is the result of a partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. A portion of all sales of the Duo will go to this charity. The Duo features the Mentor core wrapped in the MicroTrax pearl reactive coverstock. The RG at 15lbs is 2.49 and the differential is .046. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above the bridge) the Duo reminds me of the original DareDevil, only smoother. The Reacta Gloss finish of the Duo provides effortless length through the front part of the lane and a very strong but predictable backend motion. For a pearl coverstock, this ball does not have that hockey stick shape backend but a much more arcing motion usually found in solid cover stocks. This allows the Duo to be a great choice on the tougher patterns when control is priority number one. The Duo won’t wow you with big backend hook or even overall hook, but it will control the pocket for you and provide excellent pin action. Get a great ball and help a great charity!!

The new Roto Grip Exotic Gem features the same Defiant LRG core found in the original Gem, but wraps it in the Micro Trax pearl reactive coverstock. The 15 pound version features a low RG of 2.47 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate differential of .016. With my slower ball speed, I was looking forward to this release. I drilled mine 5 x 4 x 2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Exotic Gem is a fantastic complement to the original Gem. Both balls have that early rolling heavy roll making them very controllable on harder conditions. For me the Exotic Gem went about 2 to 3 feet further down the lane with a much more angular backend motion than the original. For my game, the original Gem was just too much too soon. The Exotic is a ball I can throw on just about any pattern as long as there is oil in the front half of the lane. This pearl does not shy away from oil, and although it is more angular than the original, it is very controlled arcing motion for a pearl coverstock. This is a ball that will get a lot of lane time on medium-heavy conditions for me. This is a great pearl ball for tougher conditions.

The Roto Grip Gem features the extremely low RG Defiant LRG Core wrapped in the MicroTrax Solid Reactive coverstock. The RG at 15lbs is 2.47 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate differential of .016. This ball is all sorts of strong…it is strong in the front, the mid, and still has some left for the backend part of the lane, not to mention the strong shelf appeal of this beauty. This ball is great for bowlers who are speed dominant or low rev players. The low RG core gets this ball rolling as soon as it hits the lane, so oil in the front part of the lane is a must for the Gem. For me the box finish of 2000 grit abralon was too much. I had to get some games on this ball just to tame it down somewhat so I could really use it at my home center. For me this ball is different than all the current SPI brand asymmetric balls. The Gem is much more of a heavy rolling ball with a very smooth backend. It is something that I will use on longer and flatter conditions where I need to keep my angles closed. If you are looking for a ball that handles the oil like no other, look no further than the Roto Grip Gem.

The Roto Grip Halo features the same MicroTrax S-18 solid reactive coverstock that was used on the Idol. It is Roto Grip’s strongest solid coverstock to date. The Centrum core is an all new design which took over a year in development. The key to this core design is the radial disc shape added to the middle body of the core to increase the rotation and continuation of the core once it is in motion. The combination of core and cover makes this ball a hook monster. It definitely requires a good amount of oil for the ball to perform at its peak. The Halo gets into a roll very early and picks up quickly in the midlane. Usually a ball that starts up this quickly, doesn’t have much pop left for the backend but the Halo continues on after the midlane, producing a strong arcing backend which rolls strong thru the pin deck. If you find the ball to be too early with the out of the box finish, don’t be afraid to put a little shine on the Halo. This will give the ball a little more length but it certainly does not affect the ball’s overall hook. Dull or shiny, this ball is intended for oil. It will be at its best on the longer and heavier conditions, and for the speed dominant bowlers.

The latest edition to the Hustle line is the BRY which features the VTC Hybrid reactive coverstock with the tried-and-true Hustle core. At 15 pounds the RG is medium at 2.53 with a differential of .030. The BRY is finished with Reacta Gloss. The Hustle line continues to provide bowlers with excellent performance at the entry level price point. Don’t let the price tag fool you…this ball delivers a lot of bang for your buck! The BRY is a great ball for the beginner as well as the tournament bowler. The BRY with its hybrid coverstock, provides excellent length on medium to light oil conditions. The backend motion of the BRY will be more angular than the Hustle X-Ray. For me the I need to be about 2 -3 boards left with my feet when compared to the X-Ray. The BRY will allow you to play closer to the friction, but because of the quicker response, I need to have a slightly more open angle through the front part of the lane. Another quality option for a fraction of the cost of the high-performance balls.

The new Hustle Earth features the tried-and-true Hustle core wrapped in the VTC Reactive Solid cover stock. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.53 and the differential is .030. This ball comes finished at 2000 grit abralon. I drilled this ball at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge) to replace my Hustle RIP. The RIP is a little cleaner than the Earth due to the finish on the coverstock. The ball just seems to glide along the lane in a very controlled arcing motion. The Earth starts up about 2-3 feet sooner than the Hustle Glow and has a much more controlled backend motion. This ball will see a lot of action on my league patterns. I can play just inside the “cliff” and feed the Earth to the dry and it will just ease its way back to the pocket. Another one of those balls that won’t wow you with an overall hook or massive backend reaction. The only place it wows you is on the score sheet. Dollars for dollars, the Hustles are the best balls on the market.

The Hustle HYB features the new VTC-H18 Hybrid Reactive coverstock which is finished at 3000 grit. I drilled my HYB 60 x 5 x 40 which is my favorite pin up layout. It puts the pin above my bridge and a little to the right. This ball is the best value on the market right now. For an “entry level” ball, this gives you a lot of bang for your buck! The HYB is so smooth thru the front part of the lane, provides just enough traction in the midlane so you don’t overshoot your breakpoint and then has a strong continuous motion on the backend of the lane. The first night I used this ball I shot 825 and followed it up the next week with 761. For a lighter to medium house pattern I have not found a better ball reaction than what I get from this Hustle. It blends the pattern like nothing else. The dull cover provides just enough traction in the oil, and the ball does not over react to shots that hit the dry too soon. It just kind of gradually works its way back to the pocket. And the carry that this ball provides is fantastic. By far the best value on the market!!

The newest release in the popular Hustle line is the Hustle USA. This Hustle features the VTC Hybrid Reactive coverstock in eye-catching red, white and blue. This ball still has the same reliable Hustle core as previous models. The USA comes finished at 3000 grit abralon which gives this Hustle a more unique ball motion than the Wine Hustle or the Camo Hustle. The USA has the same amount of overall hook as the other Hustles, but the USA does not tend to skid past the breakpoint like the other polished Hustles. The cover on the USA allows the bowler to stay closer to the dry boards and keep the angles closed. This ball has a heavy rolling, gradual backend motion and with the color scheme, the ball really looks like it is tumbling on the backend. This motion allows the errant shots to the dry to not overreact too quickly and cause the ball to go high or through the nose. This will be a great choice on the more difficult, drier patterns as the mellow motion gives the bowler a predictable ball reaction.

Don’t let the price tag fool you…this ball delivers a lot of bang for your buck! The X-Ray with it’s solid coverstock and finish, provides good length but the response time is on the slow side and the backend motion is an arc. All of this allows me to keep my angles closed while playing close to the friction. When compared to the Hustle BRY, the X-Ray is about 2 -3 boards right with my feet. This ball will be one of my go to balls on the lighter and shorter oil patterns.

The Hyped Hybrid features a new Hyped Core and the VTC hybrid reactive coverstock. This ball was designed to be a step up from the Hustle line and Roto Grip succeeded. This ball is an absolute steal at its price point when it comes to performance. The Hyped Hybrid comes finished at 1500 grit factory polish and at 15 pounds it has an RG of 2.52 and a differential of .036. This ball is certainly a great option for medium volume house shots. When compared to the Hyped Pearl, the Hybrid has a more controlled motion. It reads the pattern about two feet sooner and has an arcing motion on the backend. I took a 2000 abralon pad to mine just to take some of the box finish off it to make it less squirty in the oil on the cliffed house patterns. Just like the pearl version, the hybrid keeps going through the pins creating great pin carry. Another can’t miss release from Roto Grip at this price point.

This ball was designed to be a step up from the Hustle line and Roto Grip succeeded. This ball is an absolute steal at its price point when it comes to performance. The Hyped Pearl comes finished at 1500 grit factory polish and at 15 pounds it has a RG of 2.52 and a differential of .036. This ball is certainly a great option for drier house shots and later in the block at tournaments. This ball is a little sensitive to oil for me as I left me at box finish but when it sees the dry, this ball shows its strength. It has a very strong move at the breakpoint, not a skid/flip motion but not an arc either. Whatever you want to call the motion, the ball just keeps going through the pins. Just as it is a step up from the Hustle line, it is a good 5 to 7 boards weaker than a similarly drilled Rubicon UC2. But again, this ball is all performance at a very affordable price point.

The new Hyped Solid features the Hyped core wrapped in VTC solid coverstock. The Hyped Solid is a great ball for your typical house shot conditions. The ball comes finished at 3000 grit abralon, which allows the ball to still read the lane when you miss inside in the oil. Conversely, when you miss to the dry a little early, the ball does not overreact and has a smooth arcing backend motion which is strong through the pins. Rev dominant bowlers will love this new Hyped release as will bowlers with just below average ball speed. The Hyped solid is a classic benchmark ball. It won’t be the most hooking ball, it won’t be the ball with the skid/flip reaction, but it will be the ball that let’s you read and control the pattern. The Hyped series continues to be a tremendous line at a great price point.

The Roto Grip Idol combines a new low RG, high diff core in the Ikon and the new MicroTrax S-18 coverstock. The cover is the strongest blend of Nano technology ever used on a Roto Grip Ball. So what does this combination give…HOOK!! This ball is a monster in oil. The ball gets into a roll very quickly and still has some pop left for the backend of the lane. This ball reads the midlane like nothing else I have thrown. I drilled mine with my favorite pin down layout. I have to admit this ball was a lot stronger than I was expecting. Actually a little too strong for what I wanted it for. So I decided to polish it and see what happens. Well, 831 is what happened. The polish pushed the ball down the lane about two to three feet further and really brought the backend motion to life. Even with the polish, this ball gets into such a good early roll, it never squirts thru the midlane. It picks up nicely in the midlane and then makes a strong move on the backend. If you are looking for a ball that starts up quickly for heavy oil, this is the ball to consider. If it is too strong for your liking, don’t be afraid to put a little shine on the ball. This ball will provide you with multiple reactions just by tweaking the surface. It’s like getting multiple balls for the price of one!!!

The new Idol Cosmos features the same successful Ikon core and wraps it in the Xtreme Trax pearl coverstock. The Idol line which has been hugely popular and successful, has another winner with the Cosmos. This ball comes finished at 4K fast (4000 grit abralon) and can be easily adjusted to fit the bowler’s needs. Out of the box, the Cosmos’ pearl coverstock allows it to be clean thru even the most burnt heads and the Ikon core provides the consistent smooth backend that has been a trademark of this line. The Cosmos has one of the smoothest backend reactions I have seen out of a pearlized ball. This ball is a great compliment to the Idol Helios. For me the Cosmos is about 4 to 5 boards of less hook than the Helios. It is a great benchmark ball and is also good on the typical wet/dry house patterns.

The new Idol Helios features the successful Ikon core and the Xtreme Trax solid reactive coverstock. It comes finished at 2000 grit abralon. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.49 and the differential is .052. The original Idol is one of my all-time favorite balls, so I was really looking forward to throwing the new Helios. For me, the reaction of the Helios compared to the original is a little sooner and little more on the backend. The Helios gets into an early roll and really reads the pattern. However, it is nowhere near being done. It has a stronger backend reaction than the original. Overall, I would put the Helios at 2 to 3 boards more total hook than the original Idol. This ball is a must have for the tournament bowler as it is very strong and predictable on flatter patterns.

The third release in the Gem line combines the best of the two previous releases. The Magic Gem has the same Defiant Asymmetric cover as the others, but the Magic is wrapped in MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. The 15-pound version has a RG of 2.47, a differential of .053, and an intermediate diff of .016. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge for me), this ball is a monster. It has almost as much total hook as the original Gem, but the motion is very different. The Magic Gem’s reaction is more delayed than the original. It pushes a good 3-4 feet further down the lane before it starts to read the lane. The backend motion is much stronger than the original Gem. This ball is the perfect complement to the original Gem. Once the original is starting to burn up a little too soon, that is the time to go to the Magic Gem. The Magic needs a good amount of oil to be effective, but there is very little quit on the backend even when your angles are pretty open. In my opinion, the Magic is the most versatile of the three Gems.

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the same Micro Trax reactive coverstock and Ikon core as the hugely successful original Ido. However, the Optimum features the new A.I. core technology, which in my opinion makes this ball even better than the original Idol. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .056. I drilled my Optimum Idol the same as my original, 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Optimum Idol has the same motion as the original…it starts up very early, controls the midlane and has an even arcing backend motion. This ball is perfect for medium/medium heavy oil patterns. The A.I. core creates even more pin action than the original. If you had the original and have been looking for a replacement, you won’t find anything closer than this. If you never had the Idol, don’t miss out on this one, you won’t be disappointed. This ball should be in every tournament bowler’s bag. Power, control, and versatility all in one!!!

The Roto Grip Optimum Pearl features the Micro Trax Pearl coverstock and the Ikon A.I. core. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .056. I drilled the pearl exactly the same as the Optimum Idol solid (5x5x2). Do not let the pearl coverstock fool you on this ball. Although it is pearl, this ball still performs very well in oil. When compared to the original, the OIP provides about 2 to 3 feet more length and a stronger backend motion. The backend motion is still more of an arcing motion but it is far from a hockey stick type of motion that you see with some other pearlized bowling balls. Overall hook is about 2 boards less than the original for me. However, the pearl is much more user friendly when it comes to how long you can stay with this ball. Where the original tends to burn up rather quickly and has trouble carrying the corner pins when I need to open up my angles; the OIP provides enough backend strength the kick out the corner pins. If you were a fan of the original Optimum Idol, the pearl is a great compliment and provides a very strong 1-2 punch on heavy oil conditions.

The new Roto Grip Rockstar features a new core in the Rocker A.I. wrapped in a new coverstock, the NanoStar solid reactive. At 15 pounds the Rockstar has a low RG of 2.48 and a differential of .050. and a finish of 2000 grit abralon. This ball is the benchmark symmetrical reaction I have been missing in my bag for some time now. The Rockstar does not read as early as the Optimum Idol did but is not as quick in response time to the Hustle line or other pearl symmetricals. This is one of those balls, that I like to say won’t wow you anywhere but on the score sheet. It isn’t the most hooking ball, or the most skid/flip backend reaction. All it does is control the lane and give outstanding, consistent ball reaction and pin carry. The Rockstar is the perfect ball for medium to medium/heavy oil conditions. It is very controllable and readable and will work from many parts of the lane depending on the style bowler. This is a ball that will give you a lot of use on many different lane conditions.

The new Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive features the Roto Star Tour core featuring AI technology and wraps it in the highly successful MircoTrax solid coverstock. At 15 pounds this ball has an RG of 2.52, with a differential of .055 and an intermediate differential of .017. The Hyperdrive has a box finish of 2000 grit abralon. I drilled the Hyperdrive at 5 x 5 x 4 which puts the pin above my bridge. This is also the same drilling I put in my X3 and X1. The new Hyperdrive is about 2-3 boards more total hook for me than the X3 and about 4-5 boards more hook than the X1. With its box finish, this ball needs oil to succeed. The Hyperdrive features the same cover stock as the original Gem. The Hyperdrive is a tad cleaner than the Gem and is much more continuous on the backend. The Gem really labored when I opened my angles, but the Hyperdrive is much more versatile when it comes to going left to right. The Hyperdrive is the first ball out of my bag on heavy and longer patterns. Slower ball speeds will need to add some polish to the cover stock in order to be able find more use for this monster. If you are looking for a new asymmetrical for heavy oil, look no further than the new Hyperdrive!

The RST X-3 features the RST core along with Micro Trax Hybrid reactive coverstock. The ball comes finished at 4K fast which can be easily adjusted to achieve the reaction the bowler is looking for. When comparing the X-3 to the RST X-1, for me the X-3 starts up a little sooner than the X-1 and has stronger backend motion which allows me to open my angles a little more than I could with the X-1. This creates about 2 or 3 boards more hook than the RST X-1. When compared to the RST X-2, which in my area, was an extremely popular and successful ball, the X-3 reads the lane much sooner and has a more controlled backend. The X-3 was about 5 boards stronger than my similarly drilled X-2. This new release can definitely handle the heavier volumes of oil and still have a strong finish through the pins to create maximum pin carry. This ball is a must for the tournament bowler on the longer, trickier patterns.

The Rubicon UC3 is one of the most unique balls I have ever thrown. If you didn’t know this ball was urethane and you watched it go down the lane, you would think it was a reactive ball. The UC3 features an all-new Tour-Ethane pearl urethane coverstock and has the asymmetrical Rondure core. The ball comes finished at 1000 grit abralon and at 15 pounds has an RG of 2.49, a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .011. The 1000 grit finish makes this ball very strong in the front part of the lane. I found that by bringing the surface up to 3000, the ball got the length that I was looking for. The backend is where this urethane ball separates itself from previous balls such as the Pitch Black or Fast Pitch. The UC3 allowed me to open my angles and still provided more than enough recovery on the backend to get the ball to the pocket and go through the pins the right way. This is a great ball for shorter and flatter tournament patterns and can even be thrown on a typical league house shot when you want to play closer to the friction all night.

The new Roto Grip TNT features an all-new coverstock, the eTrax plus solid coverstock. The engine inside is the new Torpex core. This ball comes finished at 2000 grit abralon. The 15 pound version features a low RG of 2.47 with a differential of .052. I drilled my TNT with a little longer pin than normal just to try and get a little more length out of it. I drilled it 5.5 x 4.5 x 2.5. The TNT is a step down in overall hook for the Roto Grip Gem. It has an overall similar motion, but for me is about 5 boards weaker than the Gem. For me, this makes the TNT a move user friendly ball with more opportunity to throw the TNT. The Gem is made for oil, the TNT is made for medium conditions. The TNT is cleaner through the fronts when compared to the Gem. For house shots with a good volume of oil, the TNT shines. With its 2000 grit finish, the ball does not read the friction too quickly, so those errant shots to the right don’t stand up at the arrows, the ball just kind of slowly arcs its way back to the pocket. For the errant shots in the puddle, the TNT is strong enough to dig in the oil and have enough hitting power to carry the corner pins. When the lanes start to break down, that’s the time you probably need to get out of this ball. The TNT explodes but it needs oil to do so.

The Roto Grip TNT Infused has the same Torpex core as the original TNT, but the coverstock is the ETrax Plus Hybrid. At 15 pounds the RG is a very low 2.47 with a .052 differential. I drilled mine at 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The new Infused is a much cleaner version than the original TNT. The Infused gets into an early roll just like the original due to the low RG core, however this coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss is very clean through the heads. The other major difference between the Infused and the original TNT is the backend shape. The Infused has a quicker response to friction and is much more angular on the backend. The TNT was much more forward on the backend of the lane and required a good amount of oil for the ball to keep its energy through the pins. The TNT Infused does not have that problem, it has a good midlane roll and a very continuous motion through the pins. This is a much more versatile ball which will work for many styles of bowlers on the medium patterns.

The new Roto Grip Tour Dynam-x features the Rondure Tour Core wrapped in Tour Trax solid reactive coverstock. At 15 pounds the ball has an RG of 2.47 with a differential of .026 and an intermediate differential of .010. I drilled this with the pin above the bridge. The Tour Dynam-x low differential will allow bowlers to keep their angles closed longer and play closer to the friction than most reactive balls would. This ball is a must have for tournament players as well as league bowlers. The Tour Dynam-x is very controllable for the tougher patterns as well as blending out the wet/dry house patterns. This is a heavy rolling ball which not only excels at going up the boards, but it also performs well when you need to open your angles a little bit. This is one of those balls that won’t wow you with overall hook or backend motion. All it does is give the bowler a consistent reaction with excellent pin carry, keeping you out of trouble and in the pocket striking longer!!

The Roto Grip H2 Line is back!!! Roto Grip introduces a new look to an old classic. The new Ultimate Wrecker features the Wrecker AI core wrapped in Pure Response Hybrid coverstock finished with Power Edge. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.54 and the differential is .045. I drilled mine 4x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. This ball fills a huge void in my bag. It is a nice bridge from my high-performance symmetrical balls to my higher RG skid/flip reaction balls. The Ultimate Wrecker allows me to close my angles and stay closer to the dry than the stronger bowling balls. The coverstock provides excellent length even through burnt up heads. The backend reaction is a controlled arcing finish which provides great pin action and helps avoid those big ugly splits. This ball will be a must have for tournament bowlers and will be useful to many styles on many different lane conditions. We knew we missed the H2 line, but we didn’t realize just how much we missed it until we threw the Ultimate Wrecker. Don’t miss your chance at what is sure to be the sleeper release of the summer.

The Roto Grip Winner features an all new pearl coverstock known as VTC-P18. This new coverstock increases traction while still retaining energy for the backend of the lane. This coverstock is wrapped around the all new Altered Hotshot Core. This core produces a low RG and high differential. The core/cover combination produces the strongest pearl ball ever realeased in the HP2 line. This ball is designed for most medium volume patterns. The Winner produces effortless length with a quick and strong response to friction. This is definitely a skid/snap reaction with the out of box finish. My home center uses a very wet/dry condition so this ball was hard to control out of the box. I took the polish off and used it with a 2000 grit finish and it blended the pattern out so well. The cover was strong enough to handle the volume inside and errant shots to the right did not over react. The dull finish took away the skid/flip reaction and produced a strong arcing motion. This ball definitely continues to dry thru the pins. It will be hard to find a higher performance ball at this price point. The name says it all…this ball is a winner!

The new Roto Grip X-Cell features the return of the hugely successful Nucleus core and adds the A.I. core technology. The coverstock is the all new ETrax Ultra solid coverstock. At 15 pounds the X-Cell has a low RG of 2.50, a differential of .056, and an intermediate differential of .019. Drilled with my usual pin above the middle finger drilling, this ball is an instant favorite for heavier oil conditions. The original Cell back in the day, read the lane very early and did not have much of a backend motion. The new X-Cell does not pick up as early and has a very strong backend motion, not just for an asymmetric ball, but for any ball. This allows me to use this ball much more than the original ever did. The X-Cell is great for playing straighter on the heavy oil conditions, but as the pattern breaks down, I can open my angles and send the ball away from the pocket and still have it recover with a good entry angle through the pins. This ball is a must have for the serious tournament bowler.

The Storm Absolute features an all new Sentinel core with a new R2S Deep Hybrid coverstock finished with Reacta gloss. The Absolute in 15 lbs features a low RG of 2.48 with a diferential of .050 and an intermediate diff of .020. I put my go to layout of 5 x 4 x 2 in my Absolute which puts the pin just above my ring finger. The first night I threw the Absolute in league, I shot 750 with it bowling on your traditional house pattern which after a game and a half becomes very cliffed. The Absolute allowed me to make small parallel moves the whole night and keep my angles closed and stay in the tighter part of the lane. On my errant shots to the right, the ball made it back to the pocket but would often leave weak 10 pins. I tried a surface adjustment and hit it with 2000 grit to take the shine off to see the difference. To me the only big difference I saw was the errant shots to the right didn’t make it back to the pocket, they would leave a 2 pin or 2-10. I didn’t really see much difference when I kept the ball in the oil. Both surfaces read the lane equally well. This is a ball that has a lot of versatility built in to it, and the bowler can play around with surface changes to find the reaction they are looking for.

The Storm Absolute Power features the same Sentinel core found in the original Absolute, however the Power features the R2S Deep solid reactive coverstock. At 15 pounds the A.P. has a low rg of 2.48, with a differential of .050 and an intermediate diff of .021. I drilled mine the same as drill most of my equipment at 5x4x2. I’m not sure why, maybe it is the 4000-grit finish, but I expected this ball to hook sooner and much more than it does. This, however, is not a bad finding. The A.P. is surprisingly clean through the front part of the lane, picks up traction in the midlane and has a slower response to friction creating an even, arcing backend motion. When compared to the Absolute, the Power is about three to five feet sooner and about three boards more of overall hook. This ball reacts more like a symmetrical benchmark ball than a bigger asymmetrical ball. This ball will be best for medium conditions and for bowlers with higher ball speeds that want to play closer to the dry and for bowlers with slower ball speeds that are looking for a ball that won’t react quite as strong as some of the other solid asymmetrical balls.

The All Road features the same Inverted FE2 core found in all the balls in the HyRoad line. This time the core is wrapped in the NRG Hybrid reactive coverstock which is also found on the Physix and Super Soniq. The idea behind this ball is to get the bowler into the HyRoad line of balls sooner. With the very aggressive coverstock on the All Road this can be the first ball out the bag for many league and tournament bowlers. The NRG Hybrid coverstock gets this ball to read the lane much sooner than the HyRoad X or original HyRoad. This causes the All Road to really pick up in the midlane, but the higher RG core still provides the energy for a strong continuous motion through the pins. The overall reaction of the All Road is much sooner and smoother than the X or original. That was Storm’s intent and they nailed it. This ball is a much-needed compliment to the other HyRoad balls in the line, it allows you to stay in the HyRoad family all night long.

The Astro Physix features the R2S Pearl reactive coverstock wrapped around the Atomic core. I am not a big fan of pearl bowling balls but this ball has completely changed my mind! This ball is instantly one of my favorites. I bowl on a lot of low volume house patterns and I am still able to throw this ball regularly despite it being a big core ball. The Astro Physix is super clean through the front part of the lane. It provides such easy length with a strong continuous backend motion which continues through the pin deck. This ball complements its predecessor very well. The original Physix is the ball to go to when the lanes are tighter to start, but once you start leaving those weak corners that’s when the Astro Physix will be the perfect go to ball. The Astro Physix will be a good fit for all styles of bowlers and can be used on a wide array of lane conditions. Strokers will like the length of this ball so they can keep their angles closed longer but they will also be able to send the ball away from the pocket and have it come back strong. Tweeners and crankers will love sending this ball away from the pocket and watch it boomerang back. The Atomic core definitely helps blow up the pins!!

The Axiom features the all new Nex (Nano Extreme) solid coverstock wrapped around the new Orbital low RG symmetrical core. The Nex coverstock is Storm’s earliest reading cover ever making the Axiom an ideal option for heavier oil patterns. I drilled my Axiom with a longer pin to PAP than my Phaze II. The Axiom still reads the lane much sooner than the Phaze II and has a very similar backend motion. Overall, the Axiom is for me is about 3 to 4 boards more total hook than the Phaze II. The Axiom is a nice complement to the Phaze II. When the Phaze II just isn’t getting through the oil pattern with enough punch, the Axiom is the ball that will allow you stay in the same part of the lane and get through the pins the proper way to carry. For me, the straighter I could play with the Axiom the better. The more I went away from the pocket, the ball tended to burn up and not have enough energy thu the pins. The Axiom features a great combination of power and control, making it a great option on the heavier oil sport patterns. Bowlers who are rev challenged, and bowlers with high ball speed will especially love this new Storm release.

The new Axiom Pearl features the same low Rg, high differential Orbital core found in the original Axiom. The coverstock on this new release is an all new NEX pearl. This new cover provides excellent traction in the midlane without sacrificing any backend motion. This ball is a great compliment to the original Axiom as well as any of the big asymmetrical balls. The Axiom Pearl will give you the control of the midlane you need but will also provide a very strong backend motion. The pin carry with this ball is some of the best I have ever seen! I am not usually a fan of pearls on my local wet/dry house patterns, but the Axiom Pearl is the exception. This ball allows the bowler to play deeper on the lane where there is a higher volume of oil and still has enough energy stored to carry the corner pins. This ball is a must have in anyone’s bag!

The new Code X features the RAD4 core with the highly successful R2S solid reactive coverstock. This ball combines power and versatility. The Code X can handle the heaviest of oil patterns but can also be used on a wide array of medium conditions as well. This is the most versatile solid asymmetrical ball I have ever owned. I drilled mine with a pin down drilling just below my bridge to give an even ball reaction. When I encounter heavy oil, this ball allows me to keep my target in front of me and I never have to worry about it squirting past the break point. When the lanes begin to transition, I can keep this ball in my hand and chase the oil in. Even with a weaker/tamer drilling this ball will recover from just about anywhere. I can’t wait to get another one and drill it with a stronger pin up layout. This ball is a must have for tournament players when there is a heavier or longer oil pattern. Players will less revs or more ball speed will especially love this ball, but it is a good choice for any type of player.

Storm has brought back one of the favorite cores, the Catalyst Core, and wrapped the all new Spec (Storm Performance Enhanced Coverstock) around it. The result is in one word…WOW! This ball is an absolute beast. For as strong as this ball is, it still gets thru the front part of the line rather easily. After that, watch out. The Crux Prime easily reads the midlane friction and just continues its move towards the pocket on the backend. This is easily the hardest hitting ball I have seen in some time! It sends pins flying around like crazy! This ball definitely needs oil to perform at its best. On any heavy volume condition, this should be the first ball out of your bag. In my area this ball has put up an insane amount of honor scores in just a short period of time. This ball strikes and strikes like no other. Just about any style bowler will find a use for this ball on the heavy and longer oil conditions. If you are a tournament bowler, this is the one ball you absolutely need in your bag. Don’t worry it will probably end up paying for itself after just one tournament...it’s that good!!

The Dark Code features the tried-and-true RAD4 Core found in all the previous Code releases, but this new Code is wrapped in the new Rex Pearl Reactive Coverstock. The first time I threw this ball I could tell it was going to be something special. For me, this is one of those balls that the more you throw it away from the pocket into the dry, the more the ball continues to hook. The polished finish makes the Dark Code extremely clean through the front part of the lane but once it encounters friction it makes a very strong move to the pocket. On a typical house shot this ball is a head turner because of its strong motion at the breakpoint and the way it continues through the pins. The Dark Code sends messengers with the best of them. I did encounter a heavy volume, 44 foot pattern that I just could not get the Dark Code to hook enough. Again, because of the polished finish, the Dark Code just never read this particular pattern. I also would not recommend the Dark Code on the shorter patterns as it could be hard to control off the spot. Any typical house shot or medium pattern which has a good amount of friction to the right will allow the Dark Code to excel.

The new Storm DNA features the all new EXO solid reactive coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon and the new Supercoil Asymmetric core. The 15 pound DNA has a low RG of 2.47 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate diff of .023. I drilled the DNA at my usual 5 x 4 x 2 for my slower ball speed and higher rev rate. I was a little skeptical at the release of another “big” asymmetrical, I mean how different could it be from the Super Nova, Nova, or previous releases. Well, this DNA is different. For me it is much more playable, and what I mean by that is I can throw this ball longer than previous asymmetricals if given enough oil. The DNA needs oil, that’s a given. However this isn’t just another big ball where once you need to open your angles, it needs to find its way back into your bag in favor of another ball. The DNA has more downlane motion than the Super Nova and Nova, probably due to the difference in the core. On errant shots to the right I could usually expect a weak ten pin with the Novas, but the DNA seems to have an extra gear that gets it not only back to the pocket but gets it to go through the pins the right way. Don’t misunderstand me, this isn’t a stand left, throw it right and watch it hockey stick back, but this ball does seem more forgiving on the heavy oil, longer patterns than most of its predecessors.

The DNA Coil features the same Supercoil core as the original but this time it is wrapped in the EXO pearl reactive coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate differential of .023. The DNA was probably the most misunderstood ball Storm released as it was thought to be this big hook monster, when in fact it was a strong controllable ball. Hopefully the Coil is not overlooked because this ball is special!! The Coil provides good length but picks up nicely in the midlane for a pearlized ball. The backend motion is a strong arc, not the skid/flip reaction you may expect from a pearl asymmetric, making this ball very controllable. The Coil is very versatile and can be used across a wide range of lane conditions as well as many different bowling styles. This ball has been a house shot killer in my area! Perfect ball when the solid asymmetric balls are burning up and the symmetricals just aren’t quite strong enough to kick out the corner pins.

The latest Electrify comes in an eye-catching color combination of black, silver, and yellow reactor pearl coverstock. This ball features the same medium RG low diff Circuit core. This ball may be considered entry level for the price point, but it is certainly not for performance. Using my usual 5x4x2 drilling which puts the pin above the bridge, this ball allows me to play further right on the typical house pattern. The BSY provides good length in the dry part of the lane and a very strong quick move at the breakpoint. This motion provides excellent pin action. When compared to the Electrify solid, the BSY is about 4-5 feet later with a much more angular motion. At this price point, you can’t go wrong with this ball on your typical house patterns and later in tournaments.

The latest addition to the Electrify line is the Electrify GO. This ball features the same Circuit core as previous Electrify models, but this one is wrapped in the Reactor Pearl coverstock. I drilled the GO the same as I drilled my Electrify Solid which was 60 x 5 x 40 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The GO coverstock makes the ball glide through the front part of the lane but the backend is very strong for a ball at this price point. The GO is about 2 to 3 boards less overall hook than the solid but provides a much different reaction. The solid was very early rolling and mellow on the backend. The GO does just that on the backend…it goes!! This ball is great for league conditions when you want to play farther out in the dry part of the lane. This ball will also come in handy later in tournaments when the conditions have really broken down and you need something to get through the fronts but still have some pop on the backend. The GO is a great ball at a great price!

The Electrify Hybrid from Storm is the latest edition to the HOT Line. It features an all new low rg Circuit core, wrapped around the tried and true Reactor Hybrid Coverstock. It is finished at 1500 grit polished but the cover can easily be altered to achieve a slightly earlier and smoother reaction. The Electrify Hybrid is definitely a step up in performance from the previous Match Up line. The Electrify Hybrid starts up sooner due to the lower RG core. This makes the ball much more controllable on the burnt up or spotty lane conditions. The Electrify hybrid allows me to play closer to the friction. It glides effortlessly through the fronts, and has a nice continuous arc towards the pocket. It is not as sensitive to the dry boards as the Match Ups were for me. This is a good ball if you bowl on a drier conditions. It will also be a good tournament ball on the lower volume sport conditions. The Electrify Hybrid provides a lot of bang for the buck!!

The Electrify Pearl just screams shelf appeal, but it doesn’t stop there. The Pearl Reactor coverstock combined with low RG Circuit core provides great performance without breaking the bank. The Electrify Pearl is a great ball for drier and short oil lane conditions. The pearl coverstock provides tremendous length thru the fronts and midlane and has a strong arc motion on the backend. The pearl version of the Electrify is about three to four feet longer than its Hybrid counterpart but has a much stronger motion on the backend of the lane. This ball will be great for beginners and bowlers with slower ball speeds. It will also be a welcome addition to the tournament arsenal when you need a ball late in the block, but you don’t want to move to far from the friction part of the lane. The scent of this ball is frosted cake, so when it comes to throwing the Electrify Pearl, you can have your cake and score big too!!

The Storm Electrify solid features the Circuit Core which is wrapped in the Reactor solid coverstock. The ball is finished at 1500 grit polished and has an RG of 2.51 with a .030 differential. This ball is a lot stronger than the numbers and the price point would indicate. This ball has a quicker response time than I anticipated. The out of box finish made it very clean through the fronts, but it stood up a little to quick for my liking when it encountered friction. My intentions for this ball were to use it on the over cliffed house shots that I often encounter in my area and be able to play further out in the friction. The quick response time made it difficult for me to stay right with closed angles. I took the polish off and left the ball at 2000 grit abralon and that gave me the reaction I was looking for. The ball still gets through the fronts and now gives me a nice slow arcing motion on the backend. Don’t be afraid to drill this ball a little weaker than normal as it is stronger than you would think, and this ball definitely takes well to surface adjustments.

The new Storm Equinox features an all new A1S Pearl reactive coverstock paired with an all new Solarion A.I. asymmetrical core. At 15 pounds, the ball has a low RG of 2.49 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate differential of .017. I drilled my 4.5 x 4.5 x 3. This put the pin right above my bridge and the mass bias right in my thumb. The Equinox’s new cover features Storm’s Adhesion System Technology which provides exceptional tackiness and responsiveness on the lane. The Equinox is finished with Power Edge. The message to bowlers is that 80% of leagues and weekend tournaments are played on oil patterns between 39 and 44 feet. The Equinox is designed with this in mind. For me the Equinox out of the box was a little too clean and just did not read the the lane early enough for my liking. I took a 2000 abralon pad to the cover to know off the shine and the reaction changed to exactly what I wanted from it. The ball is still super clean through the heads but does not miss the spot like it did with the box finish. The backend motion is a slower response than most pearls, but a true continuous arcing motion which continues through the pins. The A. I. core continues to provide the best pin carry on the market. This ball is very versatile and will certainly get a lot of play for all style bowlers. The ball may be designed for 80 % of the lane conditions, but it will be liked by 100% of the bowlers who drill one

The new Fast Pitch is the latest urethane release from Storm. The Fast Pitch features the Control XL solid urethane cover wrapped around the Tour Block core previously found in the Fever Pitch. This core provides tremendous pin action for a urethane bowling ball. The Fast Pitch comes factory finished at 1000 grit. For me, this urethane ball fits right in between the Pitch Black and the Pitch Purple. The Fast Pitch has a similar motion to the Pitch Black, however it does not start up as early as the Pitch Black. When compared to the Pitch Purple, it has similar length but does not have as strong of a backend reaction as the Pitch Purple. The Fast Pitch has the traditional urethane ball motion. The Fast Pitch will be best used on short oil patterns where the Pitch Black is starting up just a few feet earlier than you would like. The Fast Pitch will also allow you to play with closed angles up the outside of your typical house pattern where there is plenty of friction. If you are a fan of urethane, this is a ball you need in your bag!

The Storm Fate is the latest collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte. This release in the signature line features the new F-8 core wrapped in the REX pearl coverstock. In 15lbs, the ball features a 2.52 RG and a differential of 0.053. With my slower ball speed and higher rev rate, I drill most of my equipment with a 5 x 4 x 2 drilling. This puts the pin just above my middle finger. What I found when I threw the fate, was a much stronger ball than most of the other symmetrical pearls that Storm has released. The Fate was pretty clean through the front part of the lane, but really read the midlane more than I was expecting. It provided a very strong move off the breakpoint which one should expect from a Belmonte ball. However, the fact that the Fate read the midlane so well combined with a strong continuous backend motion, gave this ball more overall hook. The Fate is a little too quick response to friction for me to have it be the first ball out of my bag. However, when the big assymetricals are burning up and the solid symmetricals aren’t going through the pins the right way to carry the corners. The first pearl ball out of the bag is the Storm Fate. The Fate will allow me to stay in the oil and throw to the dry part of the lane without having to worry if it will make it back to the pocket. This is a great ball for every medium oil volume lane condition.

Storm’s latest urethane release is a winner!! The Fever Pitch features an all new Power + Control pearl urethane cover. The Fever Pitch will not read the lane as early as the Pitch Black but it will have much more of a backend reaction than the Pitch Blue. This ball is great when you want to stay in the track area but your reactive balls are just too strong for that part of the lane. I am not a big user of urethane but I do like to use this ball when the conditions allow for it. The motion of this ball is more like a tamed down reactive ball. For a urethane ball, the Fever Pitch makes a strong continuous motion on the backend of the lane. This strong backend motion makes it the best hitting urethane ball I have ever used. On many hits where the Pitch Black or Pitch Blue would leave that flat corner pin, the Fever Pitch has enough on the back to carry the corners. If you are looking to try a urethane ball, I would suggest you get the Fever Pitch. This ball is the most reactive urethane ball on the market.

The new Gravity Evolve combines the successful SPEC coverstock with the highly popular Shape-Lock HD core. This is the same core that was featured in one of the most popular Storm balls of all time, the Virtual Gravity. This combination of cover and core produces a reaction that reads the lane very early and provides a controlled motion on the backend of the lane. This ball comes factory finished at 2000 grit abralon. This surface makes the ball pick up quickly in the midlane making it a great choice on the longer or heavier volume patterns, and speed dominant bowlers. I decided to polish the cover on my Gravity Evolve and it did not disappoint. The ball still gets into an early roll, but it pushes a few feet further down the lane before it makes its move. The backend is a little more angular than the 2000 grit box finish, but it is still a very controlled backend motion. The numbers of the core combined with the aggressive coverstock will keep the backend under control no matter what surface is put on the ball. This is definitely a great first ball out of the bag for tournaments with heavy, flat oil conditions.

The Hyroad Max features the classic Inverted Fe2 symmetric core wrapped in the Nex solid coverstock. The combination of the higher RG core and the aggressive coverstock makes a great choice for longer oil patterns. For me the box finish of 3000 grit makes this a ball to use for when I need to close my angles and go straighter up the boards. This allows the Nex coverstock to do what it’s designed to do. The ball starts up very early and really reads the midlane with a strong continuation on the backend that you are used to seeing from the HyRoad line. The pin carry for the HyRoad Max when playing straighter lines was excellent. The trouble I ran into was when I had to really chase the oil line inside and open my angles quite a bit. The ball really struggled to turn the corner in these situations and tended to leave a lot of weak corner pins. Adding some polish to the coverstock really helped with this situation. Once it was shined, the HyRoad Max really opened up the lane and had no trouble turning the corner from the deep inside angles. For me the Max will be better suited with the box finish and give me that strong rolling ball for closed angles.

This ball is one of the most intriguing balls I can remember in some time. It combines one of the most successful coverstocks in the NRG Solid with the highly successful FE2 core. This ball is finished at 2000 grit but the core helps to get this ball down the lane nicely. The cover allows this ball to grip the midlane and then it is the classic Hy-Road backend reaction to finish. This ball is not the most hooking ball on the market by any means, so do not expect that out of it just because you see the word Nano in the title. This ball is very predictable but having said that, this ball does not lack power on the backend which is what you would come to expect from a “Hy-Road” ball. I have found that this ball really blends out the typical wet/dry house pattern. The surface will allow errant shots in to still read the lane and get to the pocket and the errant shots right will have that Hy-Road motion bring it back from just about anywhere. This ball is a must have for all the medium volume lane conditions.

The HyRoad X features the R2X solid coverstock wrapped around the proven Inverted FE2 core. The ball comes with a polished surface out of the box which helps provide the classic HyRoad reaction…easy length with a strong quick move at the breakpoint. With its out of box finish, this ball is little earlier to read the midlane and a little smoother backend than the original HyRoad. It fits nicely in between the original HyRoad and the HyRoad Nano. I personally did not like the reaction with the out of box finish, so I took the shine off with a 3000 grit pad. The ball still glided thru the heads with ease, but picked up a lot sooner in the midlane and had a nice smooth arcing finish. Because of the higher RG, I could still play just to the right of the puddle in the middle of the lane, and I had unlimited room to the right. The ball just seemed to hit the pocket no matter where I threw it. I prefer the dull finish to blend out the wet/dry house shot conditions, but for the flatter patterns I think the out of box finish will be the better option. Guess to make things easier, you should just get two of these balls!!! Either way the HyRoad X continues the great tradition!

The new Storm Incite features the all new Tensor core wrapped in the R4S hybrid coverstock. The intent with the new core design is to simulate the ball motion achieved by the now illegal weight hole without having to drill an extra hole into the core. This ball is one of the most versatile balls I have seen in a long time. This ball can be used on a wide variety of lane conditions and bowlers of all styles will find a use for it. The hybrid coverstock comes finished at 3000 grit abralon but still clears the front part of the lanes with ease. The backend motion of the Incite is a motion not normally seen from an asymmetrical ball. The strong motion and continuation thru the pins is something that is usually seen in a symmetrical ball. This ball is definitely a step down from the Proton Physix but will complement it nicely when the Proton Physix is just too strong. The Incite works well from any part of the lane. It can be used up the boards on longer patterns and can be used from deep inside angles as well. This is a ball of the year sleeper for me.

The Infinite Physix features the REX Pearl reactive coverstock wrapped around the Atomic core. This ball is instantly one of my favorites. I bowl on a lot of low volume house patterns and I am still able to throw this ball regularly despite it being a big core ball. The Infinite Physix finished at 4K fast is still very clean through the front part of the lane. It provides such easy length with a strong continuous backend motion which continues through the pin deck. The Proton Physix is still the ball to go to when the lanes are tighter to start, but once you start leaving those weak corners that’s when the Infinite Physix will be the perfect go to ball. The Infinite Physix will be a good fit for all styles of bowlers and can be used on a wide array of lane conditions.

The Storm Intense features the all new R3S Pearl Reactive coverstock and a new RAD – E (Energy) core. I drilled this ball 70 x 5 x 40 in order to get length and a strong backend motion. This ball does not disappoint. On tighter patterns I can stand further right and keep my target in front of me. The ball glides thru the fronts but for a polished pearl reactive, it does not squirt thru the midlane. It picks up nicely in the midlane and really delivers a strong and continuous backend motion. I can also use this ball when the track and outside part of the lanes get broken down. I can move inside open my angles and feed this ball to the dry and have it come back just as strongly. Where other big asymmetrical balls tend to quit on the backend, the Intense just keeps on coming. It shows no mercy for the pins as it is very continuous thru the pin deck. The three color design makes it easy to see the ball go thru the skid, hook, and roll phases as it goes down the lane. This is an asymmetrical ball that can be used by all styles of bowlers on many medium to heavy oil patterns.

The Storm Intense Fire features the all new R3S Hybrid Reactive cover stock and has the same RAD –E (Energy) core as the original Intense. The new Fire is a nice complement to the original Intense. On heavier volume patterns where the original Intense is a little too long, that’s where the Fire picks up the slack. The hybrid cover stock on the Fire reads the lane sooner than the original Intense but is still very continuous on the backend and thru the pins. Bowlers who like the original Intense will love the new Fire, and if you wished the Intense would have been a little stronger and read the lane sooner this is the ball for you. Even though the Fire reads the lane sooner, it does not lose any strength on the backend or thru the pin deck. The pin carry with this ball is excellent just like the original. Then Intense and the Fire make up one of the best one-two punches on the market today!

The new Ion Max features the all-new Element Max A.I. core and is wrapped in the NRG solid reactive coverstock. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a .055 differential and a .014 intermediate differential. I drilled the Max the exact same as the Ion Pro (4x4x2) which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Max is a hook monster!! This ball reads the lane incredibly early and has a very controlled backend motion. For me, the Max is easily five boards more total hook than the Ion Pro. The Ion Pro is more of an arcing motion on the backend and stores more energy for the back part of the lane. The new Max tends to roll forward much sooner on the back end of the lane which makes this ball harder to use when I need to open up my angles through the front of the lane. That is when the Ion Pro should come out of your bag. This ball is the most aggressive ball I have ever thrown from Storm. If you are looking for a solid asymmetrical ball to handle the very oily lane conditions, look no further than the new Ion Max!

The new Ion Pro is the new standard in benchmark bowling balls. This new release features the TX-16 hybrid reactive coverstock and an all new Element Tour A.I. core. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .035 and an intermediate differential of .014. I drilled mine at 4x4x2 which puts the pin above my ring finger. This ball is everything it was advertised to be. The new standard for benchmark ball motion. The Ion Pro is a little less overall hook for me than the Phaze II, but it definitely has a shaper backend motion than the Phaze II. It is stronger than the IQ Tour but provides the same kind of predictable reaction that has made the IQ so popular among tournament bowlers. The new Ion Pro will provide the bowler with high usability on many lane conditions, making this a must purchase for any league bowler. The versatility of the Ion Pro is simply unmatched.

The new urethane IQ Tour 78U features the new Controll 78 solid urethane cover wrapped around the C3 core found in all of the previous IQ releases. This ball is finished at 500 grit abralon. I drilled mine just like I drill most of my reactive balls…5x4x2. For a urethane ball, the IQ Tour 78 U has a good amount of track flare, however it still maintains a traditional urethane ball reaction. When compared to the Pitch Black, the new IQ starts up just as early but has a more rounded backend motion than the Pitch Black. Overall hook is about the same, just a different type of motion. The C3 core helps with the carry on the off pocket hits. When ordinary urethane would leave a flat corner pin, this has enough energy to kick those pesky corners out more often than not. This ball will be great for the short patterns or for bowlers who like to play straight up the outside part of the lane during league competition.

The new IQ Tour A.I. features the R2S Hybrid coverstock and the C3 Centripetal Control Core with A.I. technology. At 15 pounds the RG is low at 2.48 with a differential of .031. This ball comes with the Power Edge factory finish. I must admit, I was very eager to drill this new release, and it did not disappoint! I drilled it with my standard 5 x 5 x 4 drilling which puts the pin right above my bridge. This ball was much more responsive on the backend than I thought it would be. This was a pleasant surprise. This is the most response on the backend of any IQ ball I have ever thrown. It has a much more continuous backend motion than the original IQ Tour. The factory finish makes the IQ Tour AI very clean through the front part of the lane. If it encounters oil too long, it does tend to slide past the breakpoint just a bit, but the backend motion makes up for this in a big way. This is one IQ I can send to the right and not be worried about whether it will make it back to the pocket. I ended up shooting 857 the first set with this ball. I will be getting another one and scuffing the surface just to get it to be a little more controlled and not quite as sensitive to oil. This ball is an absolute beast and a must have in anyone’s bag!

The ball reaction that Storm fans have been clamoring for is back!!!! The Emerald IQ Tour features the R2S Pearl reactive coverstock finished at 1500 grit polish and the C3 Centripetal Control core. Many fans have been wanting the Gold IQ Pearl to return. Well here it is in an emerald color instead. For me the Emerald version is a little more skid/snap on the backend than the Gold ball. The Emerald provides easy length without over skidding the break point and makes a strong change of direction on the back end of the lane. This ball will be a must add for just about all bowlers. This ball also complements the solid IQ Tour very well. It will give a little more length than the solid and a stronger move on the back but it will keep you out of trouble on many of the tougher sport shot patterns due to its low differential. Like I said, the ball many have been waiting for is back and you don’t want to be without it now that it’s here!!!!

For the latest IQ release, Storm combines the highly successful Centripetal Core with the Nano Pearl coverstock. The Nano cover on this IQ makes this ball a better option for me on the tighter lane conditions than the original IQ Tour. The overall ball motion is very similar to the original IQ Tour, however this version digs in a little sooner and has a stronger backend ball motion than the original. For me, the Nano pearl version does not lane shine as quick as the original. Just as the original IQ, this ball is a must have for the tournament bowler facing those tough oil patterns where you just need a ball that will keep you around the pocket. It is also a must have for the league bowler looking to blend out the typical wet/dry house shot.

Another IQ?? More like…another IQ!!!!! The IQ Ruby features the tried and true, highly successful C3 Centripetal Control symmetric core wrapped in the R2S Pearl reactive coverstock. The 15 pound Ruby has a RG of 2.49 and a differential of .029. Why mess with perfection…I drilled my Ruby with my favorite layout: 5 x 4 x2. I’m not sure there is a better line of balls that are more predictable, controllable, and successful than the IQ’s. On tough sport shots, burnt up house shots, and everything else, you know what the IQ is going to do. The pearl coverstock provides the clean push through the front part of the lane, the low differential keeps the ball on line through the midlane and provides a smooth, controlled arcing backend to the pocket and through the pins. When comparing the Ruby to the IQ solid, the Ruby goes about 3 feet longer with a more continuous backend motion. For me the Ruby is about 3 boards overall less hook than the solid. If you had the Emerald, it’s time for you to get the Ruby!

The newest collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte is Journey. This ball features the TX-16 coverstock in a pearl version for the first time ever. The core is the F-8 Symmetric core. The RG is 2.52 and the differential is .053 at 15 pounds. I drilled mine with my usual pin above the bride (5x4x2). This ball is a great medium oil volume ball. The pearlized TX-16 coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss, provides easy push through the front part of the lane. The core provides the strong Storm backend finish that you are accustomed to. When compared to the last Signature release, the Fate, the Journey starts up about a foot or two sooner and has a stronger backend reaction. The Fate was a great ball, but for me on some shots it seems to wiggle and miss the spot a bit, you don’t see that with Journey. So if you were a fan of the Fate, but would like to see a ball that hooks a little earlier and little stronger backend finish, Journey is the ball you are looking for. This ball will be great on house shots, and a good tournament ball when there is a little friction to the right. It will allow you to open your angles and feed it to the dry with confidence that it will get back to the pocket

The all-new Storm Level is the first release in the SPI Lab series. The Level features an entirely new coverstock material called RPM (Regenerative Polymer Matrix). The Level also features a new core design with the Equalizer A.I. core. The ball comes finished at 1000 grit abralon and at 15 pounds it has a high RG of 2.59 with a differential of .027. I took the suggestion of headquarters and drilled the Level with a short pin buffer. I drilled mine at 5x5x1. The Level provides a controlled reaction similar to urethane bowling balls but with more backend motion and much better hitting power. The biggest difference between the Level and urethane bowling balls is where the ball hooks on the lane. Urethane balls are designed to hook in the front part of the lane. The Level with its high RG, provides a much later ball reaction. This ball is a great choice for shorter patterns and tougher tournament conditions where controlling the pocket is important. The Level allows me to play straight up the lane on drier, shorter conditions and the core/cover combination provides good pin carry, much more so than traditional urethane bowling balls. This ball is a niche ball, but it fills a big void in my tournament bag that I have been needing for a long time!

The Storm Lightning Blackout combines the successful REX pearl reactive coverstock with the new Warp A.I. core. At 15 pounds the RG is a medium 2.53 with a low differential of only .029. I drilled mine with the pin down just to be able to play closer to the friction for longer periods of time. The reaction I get is exactly what I was looking for. This ball provides easy length and a smooth backend motion going through the pins. This ball will be good for me on shorter patterns and lighter patterns. This is not a ball I will be able to throw on medium to heavy conditions. It is definitely more of a condition specific ball but it fills a huge gap in my tournament bag when I need to have something stronger than the entry level balls.

The Match Up Hybrid features the same Stinger 2.0 Core as the two previous Match Ups, but this ball uses the Reactor Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This ball takes the best of the solid cover and combines it with best of the pearl cover. If the solid Match Up is starting to leave those flat corner pins, and the pearl match up just isn’t reading the lane soon enough, the hybrid Match Up will be the ball that you need. I drilled mine with the pin below my ring finger just to get the ball to start up a bit sooner and be a little smoother on the backend. The combination of the cover and higher RG core, really gets this ball to push effortlessly down the lane. The backend of the lane is where this ball shines. It makes a really strong move towards the pocket and has good continuation through the pins. I bowl in a second shift league so the lanes are usually pretty dry to start. I find this is the ball I can pull out and still be able to play further right in the burned up track area. This ball is great for beginner bowlers, bowlers with slower ball speeds, or anyone looking for something to go to when the fronts and track area are burnt up.

The Storm Night Road features the tried and true Inverted FE2 core and the REX pearl reactive coverstock. It comes factory finished at the new 4K fast. I drilled my Night Road with my usual/favorite drilling of 60 x 5 x 45. This ball might is one of the most versatile balls Storm has put out in recent memory. I would put the Night Road right between the HyRoad Max and the original HyRoad. The Night Road is much cleaner than the HyRoad Max and has a much better backend reaction. When compared to the original HyRoad, The Night Road reads the pattern much sooner and has a similar but smoother backend reaction. The 4K fast finish allows this ball to blend out the typical wet/dry house patterns and lets you chase the pattern inside as the lanes transition. This is a ball that all styles will be able to use across a variety of lane conditions.

The Storm Nova features the R2X Hybrid Reactive coverstock surrounding the all-new Ignition Core. The RG at 15lbs is 2.49 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .019. The new Nova is a very versatile ball for an asymmetric. Usually, I need to put the asymmetric balls away after just a game or two because they start to lose to much energy. That is not the case with the Nova. The coverstock can handle some of the heaviest oil conditions but that’s not the end game for this ball. The Nova allows me to open my angles more than usual and throw it away from the pocket and still have enough energy to get back to the pocket and go through the pins properly in order to carry. For me the Nova fits right in between the Proton Physix which is about three boards left with my feet, and the Phaze II which is about three boards to the right with my feet when compared to the Nova. The Nova really blends out the typical wet/dry house pattern. I generally don’t use this strong of a ball on league conditions but I was able to throw a 300 the first night using this great addition to the Storm line.

The Storm Parallax features an all new Aeroflow core designed to simulate a ball with a weight hole drilled into it. It is wrapped in an all new Traction X7 hybrid coverstock. This ball is really unlike any other Storm ball. It is an asymmetrical core but the ball rolls more like a symmetrical ball. It does not have that real quick change of direction on the backend making it much more controllable. For an asymmetric, this ball has no trouble clearing the front part of the lane. It has good midlane response and has a strong arcing motion on the backend. It has nice continuation through the pins. Trying to compare it to other asyms, I would put the Parallax between the Physix and the Astrophysix. For me it is a little later than the Physix but starts up sooner than the Astro with a slower response to the friction. This will be a good ball on the tougher sport patterns as well as the higher volume house patterns. It will best be used when the really big asymms start to lose their energy.

The Parallax Effect takes the same Aeroflo asymmetric core found in the original Parallax and wraps it in the new pearl version of the Traction X7 coverstock. This ball does not disappoint when it comes to backend motion. But there is much more to this ball. With the pearl cover it is no surprise that this ball clears the heads so well, but the traction in the midlane and on the backend is very impressive. Don’t let the pearl coverstock fool you, this ball needs and thrives on oily conditions. This ball allows you to move in to the puddle in the middle of your typical house shot and throw it to the right and watch it do its thing as it roars back to the pocket. This ball is a must for tournament players on tighter conditions when you need to create some down lane motion.

The new Storm Phaze 4 features the R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock wrapped around the highly successful Velocity Core found in the Phaze 2 and 3. The RG at 15lbs is 2.48 and the differential is .051. I wasn’t really sure as to what to expect the first time I threw this ball, I mean how much different could it really be from its predecessors. Well this ball complements the others quite well. For me, the 4 is longest and strongest of the Phazes. The all pearl coverstock gets this ball down the lane even further than the Phaze 3 and the backend is definitely more angular than the other Phazes as well. The Phaze 4 allowed me to stay closer to the friction all night and to my surprise did not overhook when I missed to the friction early. This ball is actually a little longer than I expected and was looking for so I hit the ball with a used 3000 abralon pad just to get the box finish off and the result was exactly what I was looking for. It started up about a foot sooner and smoothed out the backend reaction. The Phaze line has produced another winner with the release of the Phaze 4.

The Storm Phaze AI takes the successful Velocity core and makes it even better by encasing it in an AI core. The coverstock is the TX-16 cover used on the Phaze II but in a new pearl formula finished with the all new Power Edge. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .053. I drilled my Phaze AI with my usual layout of 4 x 4 x 2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Phaze AI takes the reliable, strong ball reaction of the Phaze II and enchances the backend motion. For a pearl symmetrical ball, the AI does not mind the oil. It reads the midlane tremendously well and the backend motion is a very strong arc. The usability of the AI is something I really like. I can use it on tighter patterns and go up the boards, and when the lanes are hooking, I can open up my angles and throw it right and not worry about whether or not it will make it back to the pocket. The only conditions I can’t use this ball on are the extremes…a flood and very dry broken down conditions. This ball is a must have for the league and tournament bowler!!

The highly anticipated Phaze III features the same Velocity core as the Phaze II, however it is wrapped in the R3S Hybrid coverstock. This coverstock was last featured on the Intense Fire. The result is a ball that revs up quickly yet still glides effortlessly through the front part of the lane. The Phaze III reads the midlane well and once it encounters friction it is very quick to respond. For me the factory finish was to shiny for the wet/dry conditions I encounter in league. I took a 2000 abralon pad and lightly took the shine off. This really helped the ball even out the oil pattern, but it did not cause the ball to lose any of the strong backend reaction. This ball will be great on medium oil conditions when you have friction to the right (for a right hander). The Phaze III is the fastest response ball I have seen in sometime and just keeps coming on the backend, providing great hitting power and pin carry. All styles of bowlers will find a use for this lethal beauty!

The Physix features an all new core design in the Atomic core which took over a year of research and development. It is wrapped around the NRG Hybrid Reactive coverstock. The ball is a hybrid but it definitely reacts like a solid out of the box with its 3000 grit abralon finish. Even with its aggressive cover the ball gets thru the heads before it starts to really read the lane in the mid lane. It produces a strong arc the back end and really drives thru the pins. With its aggressive coverstock and dull finish, this ball definitely needs and wants oil to excel. The Physix is definitely stronger than the Code X but is still not as strong as the Sure Lock. I would not be afraid to put a little polish on this ball to give it a little longer and stronger reaction but it will still be earlier and less “flippy” than the Intense Fire. This is a ball unlike anything previously released. You’ll just need to try it for yourself to see the difference!

The latest Blackout ball from Storm is the Physix Blackout. This ball features the Atomic AI core and is wrapped in NEX pearl coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. At 15 pounds the Physix Blackout has a low RG of 2.47 with a differential of .055 and an intermediate differential of .018. I was a huge fan of the the Physix line so this release was one I was very excited for and the Blackout did not disappoint. For me the Blackout is in between the original Physix and the Infinite Physix. The pearl coverstock of the Blackout has a dull finish to it, but it does not slow down the backend motion of this ball. The Blackout is cleaner than the original but is sooner and more continuous than the Infinite Physix. The Physix Blackout is a great ball to start the night when the heads are fresh and the lane gives the Blackout enough length on its own. When the heads start to transition, the Blackout starts to read sooner than I like but I know I can throw this ball with steeper angles and still have it come back and go through the pocket. This ball is my favorite and most versatile of the three Blackout balls.

The newest urethane release from Storm, the Pitch Purple features the trusty Capacitor Core found in the Pitch Black and Pitch Blue. The Purple is wrapped in an all new Rev Control urethane coverstock. This new combination creates a whole new shape for a urethane release. The Pitch Purple allows you to go away from the pocket more than the Pitch Black. The Pitch Purple rolls early just like any other urethane ball, but the difference is on the backend. The Purple has a strong continuous motion on the backend compared to the roll up reaction of the Pitch Black. The Pitch Purple is the most versatile urethane ball I have thrown. It allows you to open your angles more than normal and throw it into the dry. It can also provide the traditional urethane reaction when you square up and keep it in the oil longer. This ball will fit in between the lower end reactive balls such as the Match Ups or Tropical Surges and the Pitch Black. Tournament bowlers will love having this option in their bag.

The latest collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte brings us the new Pro-Motion, and as far as the signature series goes the third time really is the charm. This ball features the same SPEC solid reactive coverstock found on the highly successful Crux Prime. The Pro-Motion features a brand new core called the Piston core which features a RG of 2.52 at 15 pounds with a differential of 0.049. This puts this ball in its own category when compared to all of the other balls in Storm’s lineup. The mid rg core allows this ball to push through the front part of the lane allowing the SPEC coverstock to dig in on the midlane and then the core takes over for the very strong, continuous arcing motion on the back end of the lane. The best way to describe this ball is to call it an IQ Tour on steroids. I would put this ball between a Phaze II and the IQ Tour. When the IQ Tour just isn’t quite strong enough to go through the pins correctly, that’s when the Pro-Motion will be at its best. This ball fills a gap between the low rg balls (Super Soniq, Physix, and Phaze II) and the higher rg Hy-Road balls. The combination of the strong SPEC cover and the medium RG core will allow bowlers of all speeds and styles to find a use for the new Pro-Motion.

The Proton Physix features the same Atomic core found in the original Physix and the Astrophysix, and features the Nex solid coverstock previously found on the Axiom. This combination makes the most hooking ball in Storm’s lineup. This will be the first ball out of the bag on the heavier volume patterns. Compared to the Axiom, the Proton Physix is more angular on the backend and a good 3 to 4 boards more overall hook. The surprising thing to me about this ball, is the recovery it has the deeper you have to move and open up your angles thru the front part of the lanes. For me, the bigger asymmetrical balls tend to go forward to soon to play big angles but that is not the case with this ball. For me this ball is best when playing straighter up the boards on the heavy patterns, but it is much more versatile than most big hook balls. As long as there is a good amount of oil towards the middle of the lane, this ball allows me to get in and throw it to the dry and has plenty of downlane recovery. Strokers in particular will really like the overall hook the Proton Physix provides but all styles will be able to use this sneaky versatile hook monster.

The Storm Revenant is the replacement for the Spectre. It features the same Vector core with the R3S pearl reactive coverstock. The Revenant at 15lbs has a RG of 2.54 and a differential of .050. I drilled my Spectre pin down and it was a tad weaker than what I wanted so I drilled the Revenant 5 x 4 x 2 putting the pin above my middle finger. The ball reaction I got out of the Revenant was completely different than the Spectre. The Revenant, when it saw the dry made a tremendously strong move to the pocket. The Reacta gloss finish on this medium rg symmetrical ball made it incredibly clean through the front part of the lane and when it got off the pattern the ball just made a left turn to the pocket. The first game I threw with it I had 268 but I tripped 3 or 4 nine pins late. That just shows how much entry angle and continuation this ball had. I would recommend using the Revenant on flatter patterns, as the typical wet/dry house shot can create quite a bit of over under with this ball. Taking the polish off will quell the backend reaction a bit but this ball is still one designed to open up the lane. Definitely not the first ball out of the bag, but when the time comes to take it out, it will probably be the last ball you need for the night.

The new Road Warrior features the Inverted FE2 A.I. core and is wrapped in the all new R2S Deep Pearl coverstock. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.55 with a differential of .045. I drilled mine with the pin above the middle finger (4x4x2). The new Road Warrior is a cleaner and more angular version of The Road. For me, the Road Warrior is about 3-4 feet later than The Road, and about 2-3 boards right with my feet. The Road provides a more continuous motion front to back, while the new Road Warrior brings back the more traditional HyRoad backend reaction. The Road Warrior is good on medium lane conditions and broken-down patterns. When my angles need to be steeper through the front, I know I can throw the Warrior and be confident that it will make it back to the pocket. The A.I. core continues to provide superior pin action, especially on the off hits. This is not the first ball out of my bag to start a block, but it has definitely earned a spot in my bag for the later games in a league night or tournament block.

The new Son!q features the R2S Pearl reactive coverstock and introduces the brand new Centripetal HD Core. I drilled my Son!q with my favorite pin up layout (60 x 5 x 40) for symmetrical balls. This new core produces a low rg of 2.47 in 15 pound balls, so this ball really revs up from the start. The pearl cover provides easy length through the fronts and when this ball gets to the backend…WOW!! This thing corners like nothing else!! This is a ball that just seems to get stronger as the night goes on. I was able to just keep chasing the oil in and keep my angles open and feed this ball to the dry. This ball has tremendous continuation through the pins for fantastic pin carry. This ball will fit into anyone’s arsenal no matter what type of player they are.

The new Storm Summit features the Centripetal HD weight block and is surrounded by an all new A.I. (amplified inertia) outer core. All of that is wrapped in a new TX-23 Hybrid cover stock. The Summit is the strongest symmetrical ball Storm has ever released. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge), this ball does not disappoint. I was a big fan of the Axiom, which is similar in RG and differential, but the Summit surpasses the performance of the Axiom. The Summit is cleaner through the front part of the lane and provides a much stronger backend motion than the Axiom. For a low RG ball, this ball just keeps on coming when you must open your angles. The one thing the Summit needs is oil because it flat out hooks!! This ball will smooth out the wet/dry house patterns and will also provide enough traction on the heavier sport patterns

The Storm Summit Ascent features the highly successful R2S solid reactive coverstock and combines it with the Centripetal HD AI core. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.46 with a differential of .056. The Summit Ascent gets into an early roll with its low RG but the R2S solid coverstock is still clean through the front part of the lane. This ball won’t wow you with how much It hooks, or how sharp the backend reaction is, but this ball will keep you in the pocket the majority of the night. This is my new benchmark ball. It just provides that predictable ball motion that makes it easier to navigate through the transition and the AI core provides the extra pin carry for when you have those off pocket hits. It is much cleaner and more angular than the original Summit. This ball is a must for league and tournament bowlers alike.

The Storm Summit Peak features the same Centripetal HD inside the A.I. core as the original Summit, however the Peak is wrapped in the TX-23 pearl reactive coverstock. At 15 pounds the rg is a very low 2.46 with a .056 differential. I drilled mine at 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. Don’t let the pearl coverstock fool you, this ball hooks. The low rg core gets the Summit Peak revving very quickly out of the bowler’s hand. This helps the Summit Peak from “missing the spot” at the end of the pattern. When this ball sees friction, it responds very quickly. The Peak has a very strong, sharp backend motion, and the A.I. core sends pins flying! This ball is great for fresher conditions where there is a defined hook zone. The Summit Peak is a ball where you can throw it to the dry and watch the ball make a left or right turn back to the pocket!

The Storm Super Nova features the same Ignition Core as in the original Nova but encases it in the NEX solid reactive coverstock. The Super Nova comes finished at 2000 grit abralon. I drilled the Super Nova with the same layout as the original Nova which is 65 x 5 x 40. For me the Nova, was a great ball as long as I could keep my angles closed and not have to throw it away from the pocket. So, when they brought out the Super Nova I wasn’t sure I would really have much use for it. But the Super Nova is more continuous on the backend than the Nova which allows me to have my angles more open. Don’t misunderstand me, this ball still requires a good amount of oil to have success, but it is much more forgiving for me than the Nova. Comparing the hook between the two, I have the Super Nova a tad cleaner than the Nova but more continuous on the backend, providing about 2 to 3 boards of more total hook than its predecessor. This ball is a must have for heavier volume patterns.

Storm’s second release in the Soniq line, the Super Soniq combines the same coverstock that is on the Physix and wraps it around the low RG Centripetal HD Core. The result is a ball that is reads the lane very early and produces a strong continuous arc on the backend. The Super Soniq is not near as clean thru the fronts as the original Soniq. The Super Soniq is a great choice for heavy oil patterns or when the bigger assymetrical balls start to slow down just a little too much. That’s where this ball will really shine. It gets into a roll very quickly, reads the midlane and has a strong arc thru the pins. The Super Soniq is a nice complement to the original Soniq. The Super Soniq is about 4-5 boards more than the original but the motion is much more even than the skid/snap reaction of the Soniq. High speed and lower rev players will love the Super Soniq on heavier patterns.

The Road features the Rex Hybrid coverstock with the FE2 core with the new A.I technology. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.55 with a differential of .045. I drilled mine with my typical 5x4x2 drilling which puts the pin above my middle finger. I am one of the rare bowlers who is not a big fan of the original HyRoad. However, with the new AI technology core and the Rex hybrid coverstock, The Road is much more usable ball for me. It is not as long as the original HyRoad and much more controlled on the backend. That’s not to say that this ball does not have a strong backend motion, because it does! This is a great ball for transition in league and later in blocks at tournaments. The Road is clean through the front and does not “miss the spot” like the original did for me. It reads at just the right time in the midlane and makes the strong move towards the pocket. The AI core technology continues to take pin carry to a whole new level.

Trend is the latest collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte. For the Trend, they combine the Piston Core used in the Pro-Motion, and the tried and true R2S Pearl coverstock. I was a big fan of the Pro-Motion, but the Trend is even better. This ball is very clean through the front part of the lane and has a very quick response to friction giving it a strong motion on the backend. This ball really drives through the pins creating great pin carry. This ball is great on medium conditions, and when the bigger solid symmetricals like the Axiom or Phaze II are starting to leave the weak corner pins. Making the move to a Trend will create the entry angle you need to carry those corners. As a tweener I tend to struggle when I really need to have open angles through the front, but the Trend provides the backend strength I need to strike. For me this ball is a must have!!!

The Trend 2 is the latest Signature Series entry from Storm. Once again Storm and Jason Belmonte collaborated and came up with this great new release. The Trend 2 features an all-new Piston LD Core and the NRG Hybrid coverstock. The RG at 15lbs is 2.54 and the differential is .041 and is finished a 1500 grit polished. This ball is a definite upgrade from the original Trend. For me it is about 7 boards left with my feet and five boards left at the arrows. Not only does the Trend 2 start to read the pattern sooner, it also has a much stronger backend motion. Where the original Trend was more of an arcing motion, the Trend 2 is more a skid/flip reaction. Bowling on a cliffed house shot is not a problem for this ball. It definitely blends out the pattern better than its predecessor. It seems like each release that is put out in the signature line is better than the ones before it. The Trend 2 is no exception to this!

Storm brings back the popular Hot Line with the release of the Typhoon. This new release features the Reactor pearl cover with the Atmos A.I. core. At 15 pounds the Typhoon has a medium RG of 2.53 with a differential of .042. I drilled the Typhoon at 5x5x2 putting the pin above the bridge. The Typhoon with its Power Edge finish, glides easily through the front part of the lane and has a strong continuous motion on the backend. For me it fits in between the Road Warrior and the Electrify line of balls which was released a few years ago. The Road Warrior is about 4 to 5 boards more hook with a much quicker response on the backend, and the Typhoon is about 2-3 boards stronger than the Electrify solid with a much stronger backend motion. This ball is an excellent option for drier league conditions as well as later in tournament blocks when you need a ball to get down the lane, as well as bowlers with lower ball speeds and higher rev rates. Bowlers have been asking for the Hot Line to come back, and Storm listened and delivered another winner!

The Virtual Energy Blackout combines the REX pearl reactive coverstock finished with Reacta Glosswith the Shape-Lock HD Core. At 15 pounds, the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .020. It has been quite a few years since I threw a ball with this core in it. As soon as I threw the VEBO, I realized how much I have missed that core. This ball is smooth, strong, and predictable all in one. With the out of box finish, the VEBO glides through the front part of the lane and has a nice arcing motion on the backend. For an asymmetrical pearl, this ball is very controllable. It definitely needs to see friction to be effective, as the sheen finish will hydroplane on heavier conditions. This ball reacts more like a benchmark ball than a big asymmetrical. This will fit nicely between the more aggressive solid asymmetricals and the weaker pearl symmetrical balls. Great ball for all the medium oil volume conditions!
