Ebonite is introducing a new high-end bowling ball called the Tombstone, which promises to "bury the competition by knocking the pins dead," according to Brian Pursel, who developed the concept of the ball.
"This is the highest-performance, most sophisticated ball we've ever introduced," says Pursel, technical coordinator for Ebonite. "It rolls in a more readable, predictable motion while maintaining strong hook potential. Anyone who's dead serious about their game will want a Tombstone."
What makes this such an extraordinary ball? Two things - and both involve technologies proprietary to Ebonite.
The first is Bombs Away technology. The second is Pro Reactive Resin.
Bombs Away centers around a new bias mass core. The core is constructed so that the BOMB (the Ball's Offset Mass Bias) can be placed above the fingers, resulting in energy retention that is stronger, with more continuous backend reaction than standard mass bias technology.
Pro Reactive Resin gives the Tombstone a textured finish that grips the lane for an easy transition between oily and dry surfaces. Introduced on Ebonite's popular Riptide ball in November, the Pro Reactive Resin has been modified for the Tombstone.
"Combining Bombs Away and Pro Reactive Resin technologies creates a ball that moves down the lane in a readable, predictable fashion," says Pursel. "The result is a ball that is consistent roll after roll no matter what the lane conditions might be. For the skilled bowler, this type of constancy should result in getting extra pins."
