Bowling Still Growing As A High School Sport
According to the most recent participation survey of the National Federation of State High School Associations, bowling again was a growth sport in 2008-09. The numbers: more than 51,000 students competed at the 4,857 schools that offered 2008-09 high school bowling, a 2.6 percent increase over the number of competitors from the 2007-08 school year. The survey has been compiled since 1971 by the NFHS through numbers it receives from its member associations. "With school districts having to make tough decisions about sports programs because of a tight economy, it is great to see that high school bowling has been able to continue its growth," said USBC Director of Youth Development Brian Graham.
