The United States Bowling Congress recently announced that after studying the lane certification process and reviewing data from lane inspections, they will be implementing a tiered center certification program with a national staff of lane inspectors over the next several years.
What this means for bowling centers around the country is that once the lane certification is in place, each center will be inspected and assigned to a tier based on how it meets USBC specifications. Making improvements based on the results of the inspection is up to the full discretion of the center and will no longer be dictated by the USBC.
The USBC will also no longer require annual lane inspections as this program develops. All centers will be certified until 2022, when the national staff begins center certification. Full details of the program will be announced at the 2021 USBC Convention.
It is reported that Andrew Cain, chair of the USBC Equipment Specifications Committee said: “The research and the discussions with stakeholders made it clear that a tiered center certification program is the right direction for USBC, It is our responsibility as the National Governing Body to deliver efficient and consistent inspections for all centers and allow members to see the certification level of the center.”
