More Old Bowling Tips

Advancements in coaching techniques today include working with modern bowling ball equipment but there are still more old bowling tips from years past which still are useful in today’s game.

Not every tip, old or new, helps every bowler. Because of the variety of coaching areas pertaining to the game (physical, mental, strategies, etc.), some of the old tips related to your physical game can still work for skilled bowlers today.

Here are old tips which were popular in years past which can be effective today:

*Sliding - move to the center of your body with both of your final two steps. In doing so, you promote good body balance during your slide step and release movement which lead to improved accuracy.

*Push-Away - once you begin moving your bowling arm to start your swing, avoid delaying the ball from swinging continuously and freely into the backswing.

*Muscles - reduce muscle tension in your bowling arm, legs, neck, and shoulders when walking, swinging, and releasing your bowling ball.

*Relax - mental relaxation is a big part of a strong mental game. If you relax your mind during competition, you can perform your best even if you feel nervous or anxious. Deep breaths and a clear mind are key here.

*One Piece Swing - use a one-piece forward swing motion from the top of your backswing to the completion of your follow through movement. Accelerate your forward swing to attack the pins but not so much that you lose balance and accuracy when delivering your ball.

*Take dead aim - no tip at any time in the history of bowling is more important than taking dead aim at your visual target on the lane. Dead aim implies both a mental commitment to hitting your target and a physical commitment to do the same. Following through on your shot towards your target will help set you up for success.

Although there are some older tips which still have merit, it is best to use the modern methods taught today which apply to your physical capabilities, particularly if they match with modern lane surfaces and bowling ball equipment.

Practice time is when you work on your game so you develop trust and confidence in your game techniques. Some tips require adjustments to other parts of your physical game to synchronize with the new technique. A swing path change may also require a footwork directional path change, as example. It is during practice sessions that you benefit most implementing a new tip technique. There are more old bowling tips which may be very useful to you so when you decide to try one or more; it is best to do so under the watchful eyes of an experienced bowling instructor.
