It can be useful to slightly increase your bowling ball speed on dry lanes to prevent your ball from reacting too quickly to the high friction lane surface.
Of course there are other adjustments you can make when you encounter dry lanes other than increasing your ball speed, but increasing your speed is certainly an advantage if you can control when and where your ball breaks to the pocket along with generating a greater degree of pin carry.
The trick in increasing your ball speed is to maintain good balance and the ability to make accurate deliveries while generating a slightly higher ball speed than your normal launch velocity.
If you find yourself struggling to maintain good balance coupled with swing control when trying to increase their bowling ball speed, then avoid the temptation to violently increase speed and look for a series of other adjustments to combat dry lane conditions.
Trying to throw the ball overly hard, overdoing a speed increase, is a common mistake many bowlers make.
One important key in increasing your ball speed is to use slightly quicker paced steps without losing balance and sliding stability at the foul line.
Quicker steps than usual is one technique which can help you pick up a mile per hour or two in pure ball speed.
A longer swing arc and a distinctive acceleration of your forward swing are the other simple ways to increase ball speed without sacrificing balance or accuracy.
Use the technique of swinging your ball to the top of your backswing swiftly and tension free. Then from the top of your backswing, gradually accelerate your forward swing to a full and complete follow-through position.

It is important to complete the full swing cycle without hesitation or muscle control to pick up some ball speed and to be able to repeat the increased speed consistently.
It is always a great concept to use the services of an experienced bowling instructor to help you zoom in on techniques you can rely on to pick up speed while retaining accuracy and balance.
No need to try and bust the speed record in delivering your bowling ball but rather seek a slight increase in speed until you reach your limits in making accurate deliveries.
Once you increase your ball speed the best you can, then if further adjustments are needed, reach into your “bag of tricks” and use other reliable adjustments to your advantage.
