First PWBA Stop Sells Out; Field Expanded To Satisfy Demand

bowlingball.com 7/31/2015

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Professional Women's Bowling Association Sto rm Sacramento Open quickly filled its 64-player field, so the tournament will open 16 additional spots that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The PWBA Storm Sacramento Open will take place July 9-11 at Steve Cook's Fireside Lanes in Citrus Heights, California, and is the first standard event of the 2015 PWBA Tour season. Each standard tour stop has a set field limit, but Fireside Lanes and the PWBA Tour were able to accommodate additional spots because of the heavy demand.

"It's pretty awesome to see so many women eager to participate in the PWBA Tour right from the start," PWBA spokesperson Kelly Kulick said. "It will be a great way to kick off what should be an exciting two and a half months."

The three-day PWBA Storm Sacramento Open will start with a practice session and reception on Thursday, July 9, followed by a six-game sweeper event offering a top prize of $2,000. On Friday, July 10, the tournament will start with two rounds of qualifying (six games each round) after which the field will be cut to the top 16. There also will be a pro-am event after qualifying concludes.

The top 16 bowlers will compete in round-robin match play on Saturday, July 11, with the top four advancing to the stepladder finals. The winner of the event will earn $12,000 and, provided they are a PWBA member, a spot in the season-ending PWBA Tour Championship.
