If you are looking to improve your game, then bowl with purpose.
Almost every bowler agrees that to make progress in the game, both practice and competition can bring your best performances.
Find time to get down to the lanes and bowl with a specific plan in mind and use your practice time as wisely as possible.
Avoid bowling for score. Instead, use the shots you take to work on a key fundamental of your game you highlight for that practice session.
If you feel you must work on multiple things in a given practice session, then consider working on establishing a reliable pre-shot routine before making your delivery.
Also, work on breathing in and out a couple of times before stepping onto the approach and then bowling with about half lung air capacity so you do not tense your upper body muscles while walking and swinging your bowling ball.
Relaxation of your arm, neck, and shoulder muscles are key to bowling well in competition regardless of how anxious or nervous you may feel inwardly.
Using a consistent pre-shot routine by carefully setting up on the approach before each shot you apply equal focus and commitment to the given shot at hand is another vital key to success.
Add in working on your chosen technique for the day and your overall practice session will add value toward improving your game.
Another key to successful practice sessions and to improving your game is to work on spare shooting. Most of you will agree good spare shooting in an important part of maintaining a respectable average. Spend perhaps
five or ten minutes practicing and making the adjustments you feel give you the best chance to convert the given spare you face in practice so when it comes time to bowl in competition, you will have developed confidence in your ability to convert your routine spares.
