Avid bowler celebrates 102nd birthday
Avid bowler Emma Hendrickson blows out the candles on a cake for her 102nd birthday Thursday during a party at Sunrise Assisted Living in Morris Plains.
Hendrickson has lived in Morris Plains for 60 years, retiring from Greystone State Psychiatric Hospital in the 1960s. She is a sanctioned bowler, and for her 100th birthday she bowled with Regis Philbin on his television program. Videos of her bowling are on YouTube. Her next tournament is in Syracuse this spring. In her day, she averaged 180, and now bowls about 80. She stopped mentoring young bowlers when she was 98. She is the most accomplished bowler in her age group, according to granddaughter Cindy Romaine of Dover.
