If you are struggling with letting go of your bowling ball consistently, there is a technique you can use to help release your bowling ball on time.
The technique is to allow your hand to release your bowling ball just before your hand reaches the bottom of your forward swing arc.
The moment to key the release of your ball is just before your hand reaches the back of your sliding bowling shoe.
In actuality, your hand is moving very quickly by means of the momentum built from your swing and from your steps.
Since your hand moves quickly into the release area near the bottom of your forward swing arc, you must think to release the ball sooner than the ball will actually leave your hand.
In short, key your release about 12 inches before you want it to leave your hand. In do this, you improve your chances of the ball entering the lane surface at a gradual angle of descent.
If you release the ball too quickly, you risk not getting the ball over the foul line.
By releasing late, you risk “lofting” your ball too far over the foul line.
Both an early or late release can cause ball reaction and accuracy problems.
Next time you practice, try to release your bowling ball just before it arrives at the heel of your bowling shoe but do not decelerate your swing.
Make sure you finish your swing to a full follow through position toward your aim point on the lane.
A consistent release is developed by learning to let the ball go on time, every time.
Another factor in properly releasing your bowling ball is to do so without forcing wrist action. Avoid trying to lift the ball onto the lane but rather allow the ball to smoothly exit your hand without grabbing at the ball. Grabbing the ball forces your release to occur inconsistently and produces poor ball skid distance control and ultimately, a poor ball reaction. Don’t lift the ball, let it go. Release your bowling ball on time.
