Today is a special day for bowlers. Today, August 8th, 2020 is National Bowling Day. Today is a day of celebration for the sport we all know and love dearly.
But yet, this year feels different than others. Our world as we know it has changed and has left many of us waiting to make our return to the lanes. Many of us are longing for the day we can carry our bowling gear safely into our local bowling centers, lace up our bowling shoes, and feel the satisfaction of knocking down all ten pins at the end of the lane. We miss the sound of the ball as it rolls down the lanes and crashes into the pins, sending them flying. We miss seeing our friends and teammates smiling faces. And dare we say we even miss the ten pin?
Some fellow bowlers have been able to safely return to the lanes and will be able to celebrate today as we have in years past, by bowling. But, for those bowlers that have not yet had the opportunity to return, how can we make the most of this special day?
This is a time for the bowling community to come together and celebrate the (second) best way we know how: sharing bowling stories.
Tales of victory.
Tales of defeat.
Remembering the time you purchased your first custom drilled bowling ball.
Your first pair of bowling shoes.
The first time you taught someone close to you how to bowl.
Maybe your first bowling date with the love of your life.
The night out with friends that turned into a memory you may fortunately (or unfortunately) never forget.
These stories, these memories are what make bowling and the bowling community so great.
So let's celebrate today by sharing some of your most cherished bowling stories.
Kindly place your story below in the comments, no matter how long or short.
Thank you for keeping our sport alive, and Happy National Bowling Day.
Stay safe.
