How Do I Free Up My Bowling Swing?

If you ask how do I free up my bowling swing, then you have likely been forcing deliveries and thrusting your forward swing in an effort to gain power.
Forcing your swing leads to a loss of tempo and to a loss of making good releases and maintaining steady ball speed control.
Unfortunately, this seems to occur when you are under the gun in competition.
The next time you make a series of poor swings and you are searching for a simple bowling swing solution, think about bowling on a very oily lane where you need not overpower the lane with brute force or pure speed.
You can regain a smooth tempo swinging your bowling ball and begin to feel a repetitive swing by doing so.
Make a loose and free backswing to set the tempo of your swing cycle. Tension is a swing killer so begin your backswing with a free and loose arm movement to set the stage for the ever-important forward swing and critical release motion.
Maintain consistent gripping pressure on your bowling ball throughout the entire swing cycle. The pace of your steps will allow you to gradually accelerate your forward swing without forcing it and thrusting your follow-through motion. Allow gravity to drop your ball from the top of the backswing into the downswing and forward swing cycle.

Avoid “grabbing the ball” at the top of your backswing in anticipation of making a powerful forward swing and delivery.
Think in terms of delivering your bowling ball at a regulated velocity each shot.
This means that your goal can be to make each swing using the same amount of elapsed time for the entire swing cycle each shot.
Maintaining a steady ball speed each shot not only helps you gain a reliable ball reaction, but it helps keep your swing remain loose and free of tension when bowling in competition.
Nothing destroys a good swing tempo as does forcing the delivery trying to increase the amount of “revs” and hook on your bowling ball.
Trust your steps to match with your all-important swing tempo, regulate your ball speed, and allow your swing to repeat in a free and loose motion with little muscle tension.
