 Week 4: Chameleon Championship

Michael Machuga and Michelle Feldman captured the Chameleon Championship at Taylor Lanes, the fourth stop on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour.
No. 5 seed Michael Machuga of Erie, Pa. struck out in the 10th frame to narrowly defeat No. 1 seed Bill O’Neill of Southampton, Pa., 209-204, to win his second title in his eight year PBA career.
In the PBA Women’s Series, sponsored by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), Michelle Feldman of Auburn, N.Y. handily defeated Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio, 199-173 in the championship match.

“I was good through the entire week, then I threw my second ball tonight and my thumb ripped open,” Feldman said. “My goal was to not finish twice in two weeks,” added Feldman.

The latest bowlingball.com ball reaction video is of the Brunswick Twisted Fury Destruction.

XLerated Pin Destructing Power. The Brunswick Twisted Fury Destruction introduces Brunswick’s new XLERATOR coverstock, combining length you can count on with the back-end reaction you crave to provide pin destructing power.

Coverstock
The new XLerator coverstock has been formulated with two main goals in mind. First, to create length through the heads, both when they’re fresh and after they’ve broken down. Second, to create a strong angular move at the breakpoint in order to provide increased pin-carrying ball reaction. The XLerator coverstock succeeds at achieving both of these goals, giving you unparalleled reaction with a ball that gets to the spot and returns hard to the pocket.

Core
Good coverstocks become great when paired with a core that accentuates their strengths. After testing a wide range of cores (both new and old designs) with the new XLerator coverstock, the core that gave the absolute best reaction was the Torsion Asymmetric Core. This core/coverstock combo make the Twisted Fury Destruction rev up hard and hug the lane without hooking early. The medium RG asymmetric design of the core then turns loose the power of the coverstock on the back-end, unleashing destructive force on the pins.

Reaction Characteristics

* Out of the Box: With its Rough Buff finish, the Twisted Fury Destruction will provide excellent length and a strong angular back-end reaction to match up on medium-dry to medium-oily lane conditions for a wide range of bowling styles.
* If your Twisted Fury Destruction goes too long: Dull the surface with 800-grit abrasive to get the Twisted Fury Destruction to roll sooner and increase its hooking action.
* If your Twisted Fury hooks too early: Polish your Twisted Fury Destruction with Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish to get extra length.

Hello and welcome to bowlingball.com’s video ball review of Brunswick’s latest High Performance Release: The Brunswick Smash Zone

The Brunswick Smash Zone integrates a pearlized version of Brunswick’s exciting EnMotion™coverstock with an updated version of the original Inferno™core. This combination creates an ultra-low RG ball that gets through the front part of the lane then rev’s strongly to create excellent mid-lane recovery and a continuous back-end reaction.

We placed the pin 5” away from my axis, and the Center of Gravity 3 3/8”. With this layout and the combination of core and coverstock this ball offers, we expected a strong move at the breakpoint. Let’s see what kind of reaction we got from our testing…

When compared to the Ultra Zone, this ball gave me more length and a sharper breakpoint reaction. The pearilzed version of the enMotion coverstock is very impressive. This ball would work best in medium to heavy oil conditions.

On June 23, be ready for Brunswick’s newest addition to their Performance line of balls, the Swarm. The Swarm combines a pearlized PowerKoil 18 coverstock with the new medium RG Honeycomb core to create a strong skid/snap ball reaction. With its pearlized surface the Swarm delivers good length on all but the driest lane conditions combined with a aggressive and angular breakpoint. Be the first person to unleash the Swarm on your opponents, pre-order yours today!

Technology

Aggressive Reactive Coverstock: PowrKoil 18 coverstock is a proven performer that has probably been on more bowling balls than any other Reactive coverstock in the bowling industry. PowrKoil 18 has been used on some of Brunswick’s most successful balls including the Danger Zone, Red Alert and BVP Nemesis. Aggressive in the oil and strong off the dry, PowrKoil 18 is a perennial favorite among all styles of bowlers.

Utility

•Out of the Box: With its High Gloss Polish finish the Swarm will match up well on medium-oily to medium-dry lane conditions.

• When Dulled: The Swarm’s hooking action will increase and its arc will become more even, creating a better match-up for oily lane conditions and help blend the over/under reactions seen on wet/dry lane conditions.

Brunswick has announced a new addition to their Performance Series of balls, the Brunswick Copperhead. This ball will be available on June 23, 2008. Order today to make sure that you’ll be the first one to strike with the new Brunswick Copperhead.

Reaction Characteristics
•Out of the Box: With its 800-grit wet sand surface, the Brunswick Copperhead matches up well on most medium to oily house conditions.

• When Dulled: The Copperhead’s hooking action will increase and its arc will become more even, creating a better match-up for oily lane conditions and for smoothing over/under reactions seen on wet/dry lane conditions.

• When Shined: With either Brunswick’s Factory Finish “High Gloss Polish” or “Rough Buff”, your Brunswick Copperhead will go longer in the oil and react stronger to the dry creating a more skid/snap arc. High Gloss Polish creates more length than Rough Buff.

If you did not have a chance to watch the Monday night episode of the hit TV series House, than you missed some valuable bowling tips. House (Hugh Laurie) and Chase (Jesse Spencer) went bowling, and while House struggled to keep his house ball on the lane, Chase used his Brunswick Twisted Fury to strike on both shots he threw. I have to admit his form did not look that bad. Pretty solid approach, straight follow through, and you could see the results (not 100% positive that it was him throwing the ball, but I’ll let you be the judge of that). It was funny to even see Chase telling House that he had too much axis tilt. Quality bowling tips on House, something I never thought I’d see, but very entertaining nonetheless!
