Nomad Pearl Specs
The Nomad pearl features the performance proven Rotary core found in the highly successful Silver Streak Line of bowling balls. This mid-rg and higher differential weight block was one of the best sellers ever from Roto Grip. The unique shape combined with the best coverstock technology of the time was elemental to that success.
Fast forward to 2009, we have taken this performance proven core and added a new coverstock to these balls. The Ultra Vision coverstock is bred from the original Sure Grip coverstock, but with friction enhancing additives that have given us great success with some of our other coverstock blends like the original Cytoplasmic, Cytoplasmic X and the recent Cytoplasmic XL. This combination of enhanced friction and performance proven core technology is sure to please.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

THE NOMAD PEARL. This will be the most highly sought after weapon of choice.
Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 5" above ring finger
Mass Bias Position - n/a
CG Placement - 1" right of center
Balance Hole - none
Surface Preparation - Out of Box (1500 Polished)
What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
With the new Nomad Pearl I was looking for what I thought would be a good compliment ball to the Nomad that we were testing at the same time. As with most pearlized mid-performance balls I was expecting this ball to be plenty strong so I went with a fairly simple layout.
By placing the pin 5" from my PAP and above my ring finger I was hoping to get the ball down the lane easily and see a smooth recovery on the backend. My goal was that this ball would be a easy transition from the Nomad.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Perfect, I love when things come together. If you already read my Nomad review you will know that it was awesome and reacted a little stronger then i expected but it was still a good thing. The Nomad Pearl did just what I wanted. It would be a perfect ball to go to when the Nomad was getting to be too much. The ball got through the heads easily and did not over react to any early friction on the lane. It kept this motion right to the break point where it read perfectly and reacted just enough to keep me from having to get too deep and lose carry percentage.
Overall I think the Nomad and Nomad Pearl is a perfect 1-2 punch from Roto Grip.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Since I had drilled my Nomad Solid with a leverage drilling, I decided to drill my Nomad Pearl the same and give let each other compliment themselves.
By using the same drilling layouts on both Nomad and Nomad Pearl, my goal was to use the Nomad Pearl once the Nomad started reacting too much and let the pearlized coverstock assist in getting the ball further down the lane and utilizing its' energy at the breakpoint.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This layout performed exactly how I was thinking. It compliments my Nomad reaction perfectly, and actually, hooked more on the backend than I was expecting. For a mid line ball, this ball sure doesn't react like one!
With the Ultra Visionâ„¢ Pearl Reactive coverstock, this ball really allowed me to play all over the lane. I was especially surprised in how much this ball recovered when I moved in deep on the lane. It had no issues in turning the corner and exploding the pins.
Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with Roto Grip's Nomad, Nomad Pearl combination. These balls will give you the reaction on medium-dry to medium-oily conditions that you've been looking for.

When I drilled the Nomad Pearl I set it up the same as my Cell Pearl, with the pin 4 ½ from my axis and about 1 ½ above my finger holes. The pin was only out 2" on the ball so the cg ended up just to the right of my ring finger. I placed the weight hole through the CG, 4" from the center of my grip to prevent the ball from flaring over it. My plan was to have a ball with the same length as my Cell Pearl but with a more controllable backend. It worked exactly as I planned, with the only surprise being the backend was stronger and more continuous than I expected. To be honest if I didn't have both balls to roll back to back I would probably not even be able to discern the difference. As a Pro Shop owner if I have a customer that wants the reaction of a high end ball but can't afford it, the Nomad Pearl is an excellent choice.

this is a great ball. threw a 730 series with it the first night, the ball was given to me by the pro shop guy because he didn't like the way he drilled it. so we just plugged the thumb and redrilled the thumb hole for me, pretty weak drill over all pin up with the cg right in the middle of my grip....long with alot of back end. you can really tell when this core turnes over, wow just plain fun to see and the carry... wow again ,even the light hits carried. I played 10 out to 5 starting, then moved to 12 out to 7 then moved back in to 7 straight up and in. shot a 209 264 257 with this drill. it's just a straight up and in ball but the carry is worth the drill layout. I dont like to play the extreme angles unless I have to and now I dont with this fine piece of equipment.

Roto Grip Nomad Pearl Advanced Drilling Layout 1
- Locate the mass bias by drawing a line from the pin through the CG. Find the location 6-¾" from the pin along this line, and mark it with "MB". This is the location of the mass bias or the secondary pin
- Place the major pin 5" from the player's PAP and place the "MB" on the player's ball track next to the thumb hole
- Use this layout for length with a medium backend reaction.
- This layout is great for medium to light oil. Also works well for players with higher rev rates.
Roto Grip Nomad Pearl Advanced Drilling Layout 2
- Locate the mass bias and mark it with "MB"
- Place the major pin 4-¼" from the player's PAP and locate the mass bias (MB) along the player's PAL
- This layout will most often require an extra hole, so place this hole on the PAP and remove excess side weight to "0".
- This layout works well to produce medium length and heavy midlane roll. Usually works well on medium to heavy oil, especially longer oil patterns.
Roto Grip Nomad Pearl Advanced Drilling Layout 3
- Locate the mass bias and mark the spot with an "MB". Remember, the mass bias is a fine tuning device used by advanced players.
- Place the major pin 3-3/8" from the PAP and locate the mass bias halfway between the player's ball track and PAL
- Place the extra hole, if necessary, on the player's PAP, removing excess side weight to less than 1 oz.
Roto Grip Nomad Pearl Advanced Drilling Layout 4
- Place the major pin 1 ½" from the PAP. Remember to keep the pin along the line located between the PAP and the player's finger holes.
- Place the mass bias in the player's ball track.
- Check side weight to see if an extra hole is necessary. If so, place the hole on the PAP.
- This layout will produce heavy roll with a controllable backend reaction. Players with extensive side roll or high rev players will love this layout to help control dry, short oil patterns with very dry backends
