Roto Grip Nomad Bowling Balls

Nomad Specs
The Nomad solid features the performance proven Rotary core found in the highly successful Silver Streak Line of bowling balls. This mid-rg and higher differential weight block was one of the best sellers ever from Roto Grip. The unique shape combined with the best coverstock technology of the time was elemental to that success.
Fast forward to 2009, we have taken this performance proven core and added a new coverstock to these balls. The Ultra Visionâ„¢ coverstock is bred from the original Sure Gripâ„¢ coverstock, but with friction enhancing additives that have given us great success with some of our other coverstock blends like the original Cytoplasmic, Cytoplasmic X and the recent Cytoplasmic XL. This combination of enhanced friction and performance proven core technology is sure to please.
This will be the most highly sought after weapon of choice.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
As much as I love Roto Grip balls I could not remember the last ball I threw in their mid-performance line. The Cell line was so good that we focused so much on those balls that I think the Illusion line of balls was missed.
After realizing this I kept it fairly simple with my layout and was looking for just a strong rolling ball motion with a decent amount of kick on the back. Lately I have been using a hole on my axis to smooth out the overall motion and give me a real strong reaction on the backend.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
I ended up with what may be my go to ball for the upcoming season. Every once in a while you find a ball that you feel like you can throw on any condition no matter how you feel or how you are throwing the ball that night. These are usually the balls that you will start off with in practice to read the lane or go to when you feel like you just need to get a good ball reaction on those tough nights.
The Nomad was that ball for me.
I had a very strong but steady roll through the heads and a smooth transition in the middle part of the lane. As the ball got to the backend it read the friction awesome and reacted a ton. It actually hooked a little more then I was expecting but it was manageable.
Every time I throw a new mid-performance ball I am always shocked at just how good these balls are. Sometimes I think people may put too much emphasis on getting the highest priced ball and they do not give these balls a thought. I am telling you the new mid-performance balls are great and roll great.

The Roto Grip Nomad was a very versatile bowling ball on the house pattern we were using. It has a very controllable roll that is very clean through the heads and strong on the backend.
The ball handled great in oil, keeping in around board 15 and out of the normal unpredictable track area around 10.
I am impressed by the mid performance bowling equipment as of late. The mid performance is a misnomer and should not be considered a negative by anyone. These are great bowling balls, affordable, and an overall great value.

What I Was Looking For In This Layout: It has been a while since I've laid out a ball leverage (Pin & CG 3 3/8" from the PAP) so I decided to give that a shot with the Nomad. I was looking for this layout to give me the most reaction possible out of the ball.
What I Ended Up With In This Ball Layout: This layout gives me a very strong and smooth reaction through the lane. Since I have a lot of equipment in my bag that is set up for skid/flip, this ball fits in perfectly. This layout allowed me to play in the middle of the lane as well as move in and still get the most reaction out of ball.
With any good mid lane ball, you're going to want to look for consistency. That is exactly what I found in the Nomad. Shot after shot, this ball gave me a true reaction that I could read and adjust to.
I believe this ball would work absolutely great on fresh league shots. The Nomad gives a strong, clean reaction on the backend that's easy to read. I don't think you're going to be able to find a better combination of price and performance anywhere. This is going to be a great addition to anyones bag. For a great mid performance ball, look no further than the Roto Grip Nomad.

Layout: 50x3 1/2x 60. PAP: 3 5/8 right and 1/16 up. Factory finish on ball for test and ball review. The expected results were length and smooth back end. I got what was expected, not as long as my Nomad Pearls, but longer length then my Mutant Cells and smoother transition, and smoother back end. Works quite well when playing the line deep inside, and not trying to create a big mover in the back end. A great all around layout for me on this ball.

Roto Grip Nomad Solid Advanced Drilling Layout 1
- Locate the mass bias by drawing a line from the pin through the CG. Find the location 6 ¾" from the pin along this line, and mark it with "MB". This is the location of the mass bias or the secondary pin
- Place the major pin 5" from the player's PAP and place the "MB" on the player's ball track next to the thumb hole
- Use this layout for length with a medium backend reaction.
- This layout is great for medium to light oil. Also works well for players with higher rev rates.
Roto Grip Nomad Solid Advanced Drilling Layout 2
- Locate the mass bias and mark it with "MB"
- Place the major pin 4 ¼" from the player's PAP and locate the mass bias (MB) along the player's PAL
- This layout will most often require an extra hole, so place this hole on the PAP and remove excess side weight to "0".
- This layout works well to produce medium length and heavy midlane roll. Usually works well on medium to heavy oil, especially longer oil patterns.
Roto Grip Nomad Solid Advanced Drilling Layout 3
- Locate the mass bias and mark the spot with an "MB". Remember, the mass bias is a fine tuning device used by advanced players.
- Place the major pin 3-3/8" from the PAP and locate the mass bias halfway between the player's ball track and PAL
- Place the extra hole, if necessary, on the player's PAP, removing excess side weight to less than 1 oz.
Roto Grip Nomad Solid Advanced Drilling Layout 4
- Place the major pin 1 ½" from the PAP. Remember to keep the pin along the line located between the PAP and the player's finger holes.
- Place the mass bias in the player's ball track.
- Check side weight to see if an extra hole is necessary. If so, place the hole on the PAP.
- This layout will produce heavy roll with a controllable backend reaction. Players with extensive side roll or high rev players will love this layout to help control dry, short oil patterns with very dry backends
