Hammer's Black Widow Nasty starts off with a High RG Widow Core shape designed to give the bowler more length with a violent response down lane. By combining a higher RG with a high differential, Hammer is creating a long and continuous ball motion in the product line.
Hammer is also introducing its first ball with the new Cover-Puck technology core system. Cover-Puck cores use an offset coverstock puck to increase differential and create more angular ball motion down-lane. "The Cover-Puck system really gets this Widow moving in the backend, and this ball continues through the deck unlike any of our other Widows," said Bill O'Neill, Hammer PBA Champion and Pro Staffer.
Hammer's new High RG Widow Core has also created a lower mass bias rating in this Widow, letting Hammer use the LMB stamp to indicate the position of the Low Mass Bias in this new Widow. Hammer's also cooked up a new coverstock called Violent Wheel Reactive, which utilizes that new core shape and creates a strong down-lane response. Just when you think she's given up, this Widow will keep wheeling back to the pocket.
The Black Widow line was first released via the Internet in 2006 and was a huge hit with its lethal ability to perform like a high performance ball with the upper-mid price tag. This was the first ball that utilized Internet marketing to bring a ball to the bowler. Ebointe used the Internet to bring its hard hitting Hammer line to the world.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
As we do with any Black Widow series ball, we used a popular and pretty safe layout to ensure we could see the differences in their new core and coverstock technology. This layout generally lets us see peak performance from most balls and in the past has always worked very well on Black Widow balls.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
We got a very solid ball motion as expected from a brand such as Hammer with their Black Widow line. Initially I do not know if I can say that I saw anything new or exciting from this release. The ball rolled very good, it cleared the front smoothly and reacting to the friction just like you want to see it do. We got a very sharp motion off the break point from just about anywhere on the lane.
My only concern with this is that the ball reacted very similar to previous balls in this line. The changes in core and coverstock did not show any significant changes in overall ball motion to me from even the earliest balls
as the original Black Widow.
Does the Nasty roll good, yes. Will you be pleased with this ball if you ahve never thrown a Widow ball before, yes. If you ahve another Widow should you get this ball to compliment it, not so sure.

With the 4000 abralon finish this ball will give you skid in the oil and flip when it it's the dry.
Disappointed that it is nothing out of the ordinary for this to be the last one in the widow line it is nothing special.

The Nasty, for all its promotion, is virtually identical to the Columbia Power Swing in its motion, not far off in appearanace either. As you would expect from 4000 abralon finish, it has good length. Core and drilling provide a nice strong continuous backend. As I said, however, don't expect this offering to be significantly different than anything else in your bag, given you have proper fit already. Seems well suited to medium oil conditions, but can be adjusted to roll in just about anything but extremely wet or dry.
I threw the Nasty, Dimension, Emerald Vibe, Power Swing, One Pearl and Perfect Rival back to back on same line and got good results on all swings. Did this rotation for four games and managed to bowl my average every single time. Then took each ball individually for a game each and hit my average again. It ain't the arrow folks...its the Indian.

House Shot Review: I tried this on my house shot and of course I got a decent reaction and scored ok with it, it think I will stick with my Jigsaw. It just didn't react consistently and the carry was average.
Sport Shot Review: No reaction that I could control, hit the drier part of the lane and the ball would jump immediately. Hit a bit of oil and the ball would skid with no flip. I stuck with my Noise and bowled well.
PBA Scorpion Pattern: I could have used a house ball no exception here either. Went with my Reign and killed them.
Will keep you up dated if I see anything else. For now the ball is "Just OK" and I feel that I am allowing my Hammer bias to come through. I was close to giving this a "2" but I am a Hammer fan.

I got my Black Widow Nasty Bowling Ball reviews were not available, so I pre-ordered it. I drilled it 4 X 4 which works well for me. The ball rolled fine and carried ok. But when compared to the other balls in the line I don't really see anything new. Except my scores. I average 217 and shot 188,177 and 222 with the ball my first night out. Being concerned that it was just me I stayed and bowled on the same pair and hand the same results and could not find the pocket well enough to carry. I switched to my Black Widow Venom and shot a ripping 755, my Mutant and Lane 1 Red Death also faired well.
Save your money on this last Widow. They don't have to be concerned what image this reflects on the Widow line because this is done. I will say one thing they are right about, this is nasty and not in a good scoring way. It nasty to spend this much and get nothing.

A bowling ball has characteristics that will allow it to react to the lane conditions in specific ways. It's up to you and your pro to identify a ball that matches up well with your style of play and the conditions under which you will be bowling.
A bowling ball is not going to "read the lanes" or "seek the pocket" as if it were a guided missile. Nor is it going to hit the pins like a "fraight train," or have an unskilled bowler averaging 200+ overnight. Anyone who tells you these things is feeding you a load of nonsense.
I am a stroker of average skill who bowls in one league and participates in a few tournaments per year. I typcially bowl between 6-12 games per week with a Black Widow Pearl. I needed another ball because I sometimes bowl where my medium speed, early hooking shot isn't compatable with the lane conditions. I would lose a strike or two per game and nobody likes how that affects one's score.
I sought a ball I could roll with greater pace and get a later break. I explained my needs to the operator of my local pro shop and after he watched me bowl several frames, he recommended the Black Widow Nasty.
Now that I have been using the Nasty for a couple of months, I can see my pro made a good recommendation. When I encounter conditions that make my Pearl difficult to put in the pocket, I switch to my Nasty and get back those pins I was losing previously.
If you're looking for a ball that will break late and sharply, based on my experience, I believe the Black Widow Nasty should serve you well -- assuming it's drilled properly and you have the skill necessary to exploit it. If you're expecting it to do things it wasn't designed to do or to have you scoring 800 series "right out of the box," you're destined for disappointment.
