he Unruly uses the same Asymmetric Low RG technology this will give you that early roll but will more revs in the backend.

About the Bowler

Bowler Stats:
18.5-19.5 mph
400-450 rpm
5-7 degree tilt
40-60 degree rotation

Layout: 70 degrees by 3.5" by 30 degrees

Initial thoughts: The Thug Unruly was being touted as having the same overall hook potential as the Radical Guru but with more backend. As great as the Guru has been, I had to test this hypothesis for myself. Because I went with a more control drilling on the Guru, I wanted to max out my Thug Unruly to give me just a board or two more overall hook potential with a sharper shape off of the breakpoint. Hence, the 70 by 3.5" by 30 layout.

On the lanes: This ball lived up to all expectations. I will note that I have yet to throw this on a house-shot for more than one shot just because it flat out hooks. Much of what I describe from here on out are experiences with this ball on a 42' 2:1 medium-high volume sport pattern.

On this fresh pattern, I was able to start at about 14-15 at the arrows while sending the ball out to 8-9 at the breakpoint. The ball ignored the heads, picked up in the very last few inches of the midlane, and turned on it's left turn blinker. On the fresh, the Unruly was about 2 boards stronger than my Guru (due to the Guru's more controlled layout of about 45 by 5.5 by 45) and had a much sharper breakpoint. For the next few games, I could keep creeping inside with my feet but still send the ball out to 8-9-10 at the breakpoint. All the while, the Thug Unruly would keep finding it's way back to the pocket with enough energy to snap out 10 pins. Even on shots where I would miss it at the bottom of the swing, the Unruly would still check up hard and often finish at the 8 pin through the back of the pin-deck. As the pattern breaks down, the Unruly's cover is clean enough so that you don't have to worry about early hook as soon as you typically do for such a strong asymmetric ball.

Closing remarks: I have no doubt that if laid out exactly the same, the Thug Unruly hooks every bit just as much as the Radical Guru. That being said, I do believe that the shapes will be slightly different in that the Unruly is naturally a bit more angular on the backend. The Unruly sits at the highest end of my arsenal in terms of overall hook and separates itself from my Guru by it's increased angularity. If you want a ball that hooks a metric ton and can still recover from almost anywhere, you have to get your hands on the Thug Unruly.

The DV8 Thug Unruly is the Ball that I have been waiting on for a LONG Time!!
I am a Left Handed and I throw around 15-16mph.
The first Thug Unruly I Put the Pin next to my ring finger and the Cg is stacked. The surface of the ball is the original out of the box.
I have used this ball on quit a few lanes conditions but the one that I am doing this ball review is on the USBC Blue 2 pattern. This was our City Tournament Shot and I just drilled up my Thug unruly the day before City Tournament so it was truly right out of the box and no games on it at all. The Thug Unruly is such a strong ball and this ball let me play in the oil and I if I missed at all to the left into the dry the ball not die at all and hit weak. In the City Tournament in my Doubles event I shot 300, 806 series, and it was my first event with the new Thug Unruly. I got a lot of peoples attention with this ball and had quit a few people come up to me and talk about this ball. This is the strongest ball that I have ever have and one great this that this ball does not do and it does not soak the oil up really quick on the ball and I don't have to clean the ball every game. I have the Guru and that is a great ball but the only thing that I dislike about the Guru was it is hard to keep the oil off, and I had to clean the ball every game to keep it from shinning up, but besides that the Guru is a great ball. The Guru was my most aggressive ball on the market, but know the Thug Unruly is the most aggressive ball on the market.The Unruly is going to be a ball that you need for those heavier volume and longer oil patterns. If you are seeking a ball for heavier oil patterns that is extremely aggressive Search no more. Thug Unruly is the ball.

If you are looking for a ball for lighter volume patterns or shorter oil patterns than the Thug unruly will not be your ball. The Thug Unruly will need OIL!!

The Thug Unruly and the Diva Divine are my 2 most favorite balls and they are a great 1-2 punch. If the Thug Unruly starts to read to early I go to my Diva Divine, and that ball reads cleaner threw the heads than the Thug Unruly.

So if you have not got the Thug Unruly yet, please go to your Local Pro Shop, because you will not be disappointed! DV8 has put out I think there best ball out yet to date!! Thank you DV8 for this fantastic ball! TONIGHT WE BOWL!! #dV8bowling

This ball has been my go to ball since having it drilled. I have found that the ball is exceedingly versatile and not condition specific. I have played shots from across 20 board to a break point of 5 board with ease and confidence that it would make the turn and drive through; and I have also played straight up 7 board on longer, heavier patterns and the ball consistently performed as I expected.
The coverstock has held up very well. I returned it to factory finish once after about 65-70 games, but it was largely to just clean it up, as there was minimum degradation in performance. While it is priced in the high performance range, this ball may give you more than you are paying for due to longevity and versatility.

This ball will give you a lot of confidence.

The release of the Thug Unruly was another game changer by DV8. In the past I've used most of their equipment, to include the Endless Nightmare. This ball is easily stronger than the Endless with a more consistent roll. It compares to my Radical Guru in total boards covered, but does so more downlane and angular than the Radical Guru. Get this ball now and have a great out of the bag ball for heavy oil conditions and flat heavy patterns.

The Thug Unruly is one of the best balls DV8 has ever made! I drilled mine 57x4x65 and it hits like a truck! The ball gets down lane smoothly and restores all of it energy going into the pins. My first 4 games out of the box crossing pairs on USBC Blue pattern were 258,247,278,300. If you want a ball for heavy oil that doesn’t over react off the friction and rolls really smooth this is the ball for you. You can get the ball in the oil line and still has a ton of hitting power. Get yours today this is a special ball!

As a PBA & DV8 Staff member, I have had the chance to throw the new releases for a few weeks now and all I can say is WOW!
The THUG UNRULY may be the best ball I have thrown in the past year. Be it known, I already love the THUG… but the UNRULY is all of that and MUCH MORE.
For me, I have 4-5 more boards of “room” on a THS, and the forgiveness is incredible. Let me say, this ball makes me look way better that some of the shots I throw. Literally… stand left and throw right. But what stands out for me with the UNRULY, is that it never gives up. No matter how far left I get, the power through the pins is incredible. No weak 10’s for this ball.
If you are looking for that extra room, with forgiveness, and power through the pins… the THUG UNRULY is the rock you need in your bag.

My Name is Doug, I am Left Handed and I throw the ball around 15-16mph. This is my second review on the Thug Unruly and this is my second Thug Unruly Drilled. The drilling I did on my second Thug Unruly is the same as the first Thug Unruly but I changed the surface on the ball. The surface I did on the second Thug Unruly is I took it out of box surface and then I hit it with Royal Compound and Then Royal Shine and this ball is Glossy. I did this because when my first Thug Unruly starts to read up to early, I can go to the Glossy one and it has worked so great and I am able to stay with the same kind of ball. I have loved my 2 Thug Unruly and they have been a great 1-2 punch. The drilling that I have on both balls is I have the Pin to the left of my Ring Finger and the CG is stacked, and a the pin 3-4". I have used this ball on Typical House shots, and also on Sport Patterns like Highway to Hell, Beat'n Path, and Mexico City.
This Thug Unruly will work well on Medium to Heavy Oil lane patterns. This Thug unruly will work well when the middle of lanes are reading to early or burnt up, and this Unruly with its gloss finish will get through the heads really clean and save its energy for the back and have a really strong back end reaction.
The Thug Unruly is the Strongest Ball on the market, and is my favorite ball in my bag, and now that I have drilled another one and Polished it, this is my second favorite ball, and I can't keep both of these balls out of my hands. That is what I love about DV8 balls they react so great when you change the surface of the balls and also DV8 balls last for a long time. I have quite a few balls that are over a year old that I am still using that still carry great and if you keep up with the cleaning on the balls they will last a long time. I clean my bowling balls every time I get done using them and before I put them in my bag, and if you do this I promise your bowling balls will last a long time. If you have not purchased a DV8 Thug Unruly, you need to, because I promise that you will be happy with the reaction and hitting power of this ball. #dv8bowling

About the Bowler

I have been waiting for THIS ball! I haven't seen a really great heavy oil ball since the endless nightmare. Sure, DV8 has plenty of balls that hook (e.g., ruckus feud, thug), but not on heavier conditions, and not like this.. I loved the Thug when it first came out. The continuous motion through the pins was great for my game (I am a female with a moderate rev rate). However, I can't use my Thug in heavy oil; it just doesn't seem to pick up traction the way I want it to. That is no longer a problem with the Thug Unruly! This ball MOVES. When this ball hits the spot, it GOES and I love it. I'm not going to say this ball gives endless length, because it doesn't. When it hits the back of the pattern, it makes its turn and continues to roll. I love the thug motion through the pins (which it has) but I also love that I can use it on heavier conditions. No matter where I'm standing on the lane, I see a similar motion: gets down the lane clean, turns left at the spot, and keeps rolling heavily through the pins. As a woman, when I move deeper left, there is always a concern about leaving flat corners. With the Unruly, I am no longer concerned. The motion is still there no matter how far left I move and I have forgiveness when I miss right.

Tournament season is around the corner and I'm really excited that I have an awesome "first ball out of the bag" in my arsenal now. If you don't have this ball, YOU NEED IT!

My league house has a puddle in the middle but the oil thins out a lot the farther out you go. My Hammer BW Legend and Red Legend work great for a lot of conditions but when I try moving left they both get out to the dry, snap hard and burn up energy. If I try to keep them further inside they tend to skid too far and break less and late, especially the Red Legend. After reading a lot of reviews, I decided to drill up an Unruly and see if I could keep it in the oil. WOW! I went with a pin up, 60 x 4 5/8 x 30 layout. I'm now able to start the night farther right and chase the oil as carry down changes the lanes. By the third game I'm throwing over 4th arrow out to 10 board, staying in the oil and NOT losing energy! This thing hits hard and blows the bottoms out instead of throwing pins high. Even with this strong layout the Unruly has a very controlled hooking action, not a "hockey stick" motion. My series have gone from the high 500's to the 620-640 range (it would help if I was more consistent with my spares). I throw around 14-15 mph with a rev rate of 350 but I think this ball would fit well with lower speed/lower rev players as well. Overall, the best ball I've thrown in a long time. Great work DV8!

About the Bowler

This Ball is perfect for fresh lanes with a medium to heavy volume! I'm a high rev player with med-high ball speed and the back end is crazy. I drilled mine a little weaker with the pin above the middle finger (rh)and almost drilled the mass bias out in the thumb. Compared to my original Thug this seems way smoother up front and great off the spot. 766 out of the box will always make a person smile. It gives me a little help as well when I miss it at the bottom so anyone looking for a ball to use in the oilor if you dont have as many revs this is the orb for you!

The center I bowl league in has a hugh volume in the middle of the lane, so often times balls that hook in the backend go too long, and balls that hook early are spent by the time they get to the pins. The new Thug Unruly allowed me to move into the flood and still had more than enough left to make a very hard move into the pocket. I've also thrown it on two different sport patterns. On the WTBA Athens pattern, there was enough volume in the front of the lane to allow me to play just inside the track area, sending it out to about 5-6 before it came roaring back to the 1-3. I was impressed at how well it handled the flatter pattern playing that much angle. Dislikes: The other sport pattern was in a very high lineage center with lower volume and shorter length. The shorter pattern yielded a better ball motion when playing pretty straight up the lane between 5-8. the strong Class 13G coverstock just hooked way too much out there, and when I moved further inside there was too much OB throwing it out to where the straighter angles were playing. No ball will work every single time, and I am well aware of that. Just remember to save this ball for longer/heavier oil patterns.

I had the chance to throw my DV8 Thug Unruly.
Layout:::: 50 X 5 X 40 Pin over the Bridge
Box Surface
Rev Rate ::: 350
Ball speed:::: 16 mph
Condition:::::41 ft. House shot

Let me first say this ball Hooks ! I like my DV8 Thug as it allows me to get left and never doubt the ball will come off the spot hard. The Thug gets through the front of the lane easily and at the break point has a stong continuation .

The NEW Thug Unruly let's me open up my angles quite a bit. Standing about 39 with my left foot and tageting 23 out to 10 the Unruly had no problem making the turn without burning up. Thug Unruly is earlier for me than the Thug but is harder at the break point. It is around 5 - 6 boards more than the original Thug. When this ball makes it's move it just keeps going through the 8 pin off the deck.

I usually have trouble getting a ball to be consitent with extreme angles like this. The Thug Unruly for me seems stronger and more hook than my Guru drilled at 50 X 5 X 40 without the P3 Hole in the Guru.

The Unruly is going to be a ball that you need for those heavier volume and longer oil patterns. If you are seeking a ball for heavier oil patterns that is extremely aggressive Search no more. Thug Unruly is the ball.
DV8 has made great strides and 2015 promises to be a winning year.

Simply said this ball rolls extremely hard and continuous when there is a fair amount of oil. If you want a ball for heavy oil but with a smooth, strong motion, get this ball in your bag.

For awhile my favorite bowling ball of all time was the DV8 Misfit Blue/Orange because of its versatility. I am now in a bittersweet moment to say I have a new favorite. The DV8 Thug Unruly lives up to its name. It is spotless through the front and the backend is insane. I have never been able to play inside so well and be comfortable giving it room on sport shots. My 3rd game with this ball was a 279 and later that month I would bowl my first 299. This is a must have for long patterns and heavy volume patterns so do not consider anything else! #TonightWeBowl

Out of the box I believe this ball would hook in snow. I hit the ball with a 4000 grit abralon pad then a light coat of 800 grit wax on my ball spinner. It made the ball very smooth through the heads and still grabs the lane at the break point. Not a snappy backend which is exactly what i wanted. GREAT BALL.

This ball is one that has a place in anybody's bag. It is one of the most consistent heavy hooking pieces of equipment I've ever owned. This ball allows you to keep moving further and further inside while still demolishing the pins. I recommend this ball to anybody needing something for heavy oil.

This ball is a hooking monster. The Thug Unruly gets threw the heads easily and when it hits the breakpoint it makes a left turn and crushes the pins. On any house pattern there is no fear of throwing to far right because this ball will come back without losing any energy. On heavier patterns this ball will travel further down the lane and still will pick up the breakpoint and make a left turn and not loose any energy. This is a must ball in a bowlers arsenal.

The Original Thug was one of my all time favorite asymmetric bowling balls, so I was very excited when DV8 announced a stronger version in the Thug Unruly. I loved the motion my Original Thug gave me, but when the oil volume increased the Thug lost traction.
I choose a layout of 35x4x35, which is slightly stronger than the layout I used in my Original Thug, but I wanted the Unruly to allow me to open up the lane a little more than my Original Thug.
I first tested the Thug Unruly on the 43’ USBC Open Championships Team Pattern. Wow do I wish I had this ball last year at Nationals. I was able to play the track area effortlessly, and the Unruly had no problem recovering if I missed right a few boards. It also allowed me to play much further left than I was able to play with the Ruckus Feud last year, which allowed me to open up my angles a touch and create hold left and recovery right.
I then tested the Unruly on a Typical House Pattern and I could not believe my eyes. My first shot I tried to play where I typically play on that house pattern, standing around 25 and targeting right around 3rd arrow. My first shot hook left so strong the ball hit the 2-4. In order to strike with the Unruly I had to move my feet to 35 and target just left of 4th arrow getting my breakpoint to 7-8. The Thug Unruly recovered every time and after a few shots I had to continue moving left. Usually strong asymmetric balls start to lose energy and burn up on my when I get that far left, but I had no problem playing those extreme angles with the Unruly.
If you are looking for an extremely aggressive bowling ball, that retains energy down lane and does not roll or burn up early, the Thug Unruly is for you. It will be great for any bowler on high volume oil patterns.

I had a mastermind genius before this and this was it's replacement. The first time i tried it I shot a 251. Then a 220. My high is a 254 and I have only broken 200 those 3 times. I am not the best in the universe at hooking a bowling ball, so this was a game changer. It NEVER misses the breakpoint (unlike the genius. Throw that 1 mph too fast and it would never reach the pocket) and From my go-to line, straight down 1st arrow, I can miss it at the bottom, throw it too far out, throw it too fast, anything, and it will still get back to the pocket. Best ball I have ever used. Buy it.

Holy hook batman! I drilled mine pin above the fingers CG in center of grip with no weight hole. The box surface I thought was going to be a problem with my 16 mph ball speed. Ball is clean with a big midlane move and doesn't quit in the backend. Ball just runs over pins! My new favorite big HOOK ball!

I have had my Thug Unruly for a couple of weeks and the ball is already one of my favorites in my bag. My Thug has a 3 inch pin and I drilled it pin up. It comes with 2000 surface which I thought was going to be too much but the ball still had great length with awesome backend. I used this ball later in a few tournaments when you usually get over/under reaction. This ball still turned hard even when I pulled it inside a little. This ball should be in everyone’s bag!

The Thug Unruly has the Class 13G Solid Reactive Coverstock. This ball has the highest hook potential to date and will give you aggressive down lane reaction in medium to heavy conditions. The hook potential that I have personally seen out of this ball is absolutely amazing, the Thug Unruly will not disappoint!

After being away from bowling for 25 years or so, I returned with a DV8 Ruckus Schizo that I bought from a friend.

Since then I have been looking at different bowling balls for an upgrade, and I went with the DV8 Thug Unruly, and I have to start with, WOW!

Because of physical limitations with a bad shoulder, back and knee, I went with a #12, standard pin-up drilling, tips and thumb slug.

Since the first time I rolled this down a lane, I knew this ball was going to be special, and it has not disappointed.

Since I have to throw much slower and easier since my high cranking and rev days, this ball is doing everything that needs to be done.

The back end on this gets better with each rev, and when it hits the pins the pins stay low to KO any other standing pins.

I have been light in the pocket more often than I want to be, but what this ball does to the pins has been remarkable! And lets not forget that this ball eats up oil like nobody's business!

What has also been a blessing is its forgiveness when I get too far to the right way from the oil and picks up friction in the dry areas and makes it's way to the pocket with powerful, solid hits.

25 years ago I was a 187 bowler using rubber and plastic.

With the Thug Unruly, I'm around 215 on a consistent basis.

While a 215 average may not be impressive to some, it is to me when I consider my physical limitations, and the bowling rust that I still have.

If you get into heavy oil conditions, this should be your first ball out of the bag. Even when the conditions change as the night rolls on, you can make the appropriate adjustments without having to change your ball.

About the Bowler

The Thug unruly is a great ball to have in your arsenal. It's a great oil ball out the box my layout was 30x5x30 I'm a stroker with a 320 rev rate with speed. I played on a 46ft pattern playing inside with recovery. I was able to pay multiple angles without a problem. Team DV8 you made another great one!! DV8 staff:MauriceMoore
