I have never been much of an Ebonite International fan. I am a pro shop operator and I drill up a ton of bowling balls, I enjoy experimenting with different balls and layouts. This year I spent a lot of time focusing on Motiv and Global. The Symmetrical hybrid became the category of the year for me as I tested the Moxie, Respect, Covert Vengeance, tribal fire & Octane.

Then one day I witnessed somebody roll an 800 with the Salute and I was instantly intrigued. I got one and drilled it up with a very aggressive layout. (I have to remeasure my PAP) But the ball is Pin down under the bridge with the CG on a very small 5 to 10 degree angle towards my ring finger. I drilled it with a double thumb. To say I this ball is impressive is an understatement. It's got a nice thick coverstock, the ball gets nice length and the finish is devastating.

I hear a lot about how well Motiv balls finish through the pins, how well they carry, and I have had the same experience in general, the same is true with global.

After testing the Salute side by side with the Respect, Moxie, Covert Vengeance, Octane, and Tribal Fire, and I'd take the Salute every time. The ball is simply awesome. It sounds like thunder in the pocket, it carries the 7 and 10, and I can play any number of lines with the ball.

It is a good 20 to 30 dollars cheaper than the other balls I compared it too, yet it is nothing short of awesome. I hope EBI comes out with a solid version of the Salute. At the moment it is my benchmark ball.

COMMENTS

If you’re looking for a ball that saves its hook for the back end, then the Salute by Ebonite is the answer. The drill pattern I used for this ball is one that typically allows me to play straighter angles from the track to the gutter. I was not expecting the sharp back end move that this ball gave me. I have to make sure to give this ball a little room to keep it in the pocket. I may add some surface to mellow it out a bit at some point. The Salute is also a very versatile ball. You can create different shapes and reactions by changing the drilling. I plan to drill a second one with the pin down. You’ll be hard pressed to find better performance at this price point. If you haven’t thrown an Ebonite ball for a while, take a good look at the Salute. You won’t be disappointed.

COMMENTS
The Adrenaline was one of my favorite symmetric cores that I have thrown by Ebonite. When I heard from R & D that this core was going to be reintroduced, I was very excited. The SALUTE has lived up to its predecessor (Adrenaline) and then some. Out of the box it is very angular at your breakpoint. The adrenaline core eliminates the over-under found in some company’s symmetric cores. The SALUTE still slows down in the midlane but maintains its strong response at the breakpoint. Ebonite’s R & D team matched the core to the new hybrid cover perfectly. I also modified the cover from the factory polish to a 3000 abralon pad surface for heavier oil environments and it still had that same look at the breakpoint but picked up the midlane sooner. This ball is versatile, continuous at the breakpoint and it performs on a multitude of environments. Great job Ebonite!
