THE SHIFT IS HAPPENING.
The Shift™ is more than just the first release in our new Premier Line, it is our finest engineering achievement. The innovative Shape-Lock™ asymmetrical core system is encased within the newly formulated R2S™ Pearl Particle coverstock. When combined, the Shift™ flies through the heads, produces excellent mid-lane transition and finally makes a massive shift to the pocket.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

If there is any question that this is a pearl particle cover throw it once and you will know for sure. I am usually not a big fan a pearl particle covers because they tend to give me a real in between ball reaction. I truly think if this cover would have been on any other core shape this ball would have been no different. I am a believer int he new Shape-Lock core system from Storm. We used a fairly typical layout for us, pin 5" from PAP (5 1/8" over 1/8" up) with the "key" (mass bias) 2-2 1/4" to the right of my thumb.
The ball is somewhat clean through the front part of the lane. The ball reads the middle of the lane somewhat well and has a little left over on the back.
I think this core and cover combination is not what the bowlers expect from Storm, however given their track record recently with the Paradigm I guess this ball is OK. NOTE: Make sure you talk to your local pro, the wrong layout can make the ball a bit jumpy and worse that it already is.

I don't want my review of the Storm Shift to sound biased, I don't want it to sound personal. This review is based on fact and years of drilling and bowling. This is my observation from using it myself and drilling it for my customers. Storm came close to the correct name when they called it the Shift. Never know when it will or will not work and drop the "f" in the name. I have actually had to exchange three of the balls for customers who were loyal Storm customers that now throw Brunswick Fury's or Hammer Black Widows. Storm was a cool and innovative company a few years ago, now their name tells you everything you need to know. Very unpredictable and no one knows what to expect. The ball rolled early for one customer when it should not have, the other wouldn't react and the other was inconsistent. Mine was just plain bad. Spend your money on a Brunswick or Hammer, you will not be sorry. Why take a chance when the others are hitting them out of the park with their new releases. Also, Storm was of no help whatsoever in resolving my customer issues. Thanks for nothing Storm.

Another attempt from Storm to make a ball with the "lets just make a ball because they will buy it" attitude. Always loving Storm I gave them one last chance, and this was my LAST. Ball reacted very poorly when compared to my Brunswick Fury. It even performed worse than my Power Groove, ball rolled too early when dull and skidded too far when polished. I could go on and on, but save your money, Storm is an appropriate name for this company right now. Stormy times.

The Storm Shift was once again simply an effort to get another ball to market. As of late Storm has released ball after ball without there usual success. I found this ball to go too long when I polished it and it rolled way too early when dull. I found the ball to be very sensitive to release, not that a ball shouldn't be, but don't make any mistakes at the bottom of your swing with this ball, you'll will pay for it at the pins. When compared to today's balls this is not what we hoped it would be.

Storm you have done it again. Forget about all us bowlers that supported you and helped you get to the top? The Storm Shift is just another ball that falls short, way short. Reaction is very unpredictable. Try the Brunswick Fury or the Total NV, steer clear of this ball unless they give it to you, then sell it on an auction site.

Layout, #1 on Drill sheet
PAP 4 1/4 over 3/4 up
Cranker
The Storm Shift bowling ball has a moderate midlane read with an explosive and incredibly quick reaction off the back end of the oil pattern. It handles carrydown extremely well too due to the particle coverstock.

Drilling the Storm Shift bowling ball was a minor nightmare but worth it. This ball turns hard in all conditions even when thrown hard. Great ball, two thumbs up. I highly recommend this ball. You won't be disappointed.

Congratulations to Chip Aki who just claimed his eagle at the USBC Open Championships using his Shift to shoot 814 in the singles. My Shift rolled just as good, but unfortunately failed to knock over as many pins as his, not the ball so might be the bowler??? ha ha

The Storm Shift bowling ball is great. My brother just got it. We have the same finger and thumb measurements so I do throw it occasionally. This ball handles all conditions well. The heavy oil requires moving right, but it will still change directions like crazy. This ball is good for carry down oil because it reacts so violent on the backend. I can throw this ball exactly like The One and it will react more. When you throw this ball cross lane on the dry, it will shift directions extremely violently, although it can't get very far outside.
As in all my reviews I will talk about maintenance of the ball. This ball absorbs oil at an insane rate. After 3 days I threw it in for a bath and so much oil came out of it. I was really surprised at the absorption rate of the ball. This ball, along with every performance ball must be cleaned after every time out. Great ball, my favorite of Storm's even though many people don't like the ball.
Note about layouts: PAP specific drilling's, CG standard layouts don't do the ball justice.
