Columbia's new Optima coverstock is all that it is cracked up to be. We drilled our Big Shot with the pin 4" from the PAP with a 1" x 2" hole on the PAP. The mid-lane read the ball gave was great with plenty of reaction on the backend. The ball had no problem clearing the front part of the lane no matter where we threw it from.
The Centrifuge core has been proven for years and hit just as we expected. We left the surface as it was out of the box and really don't see ant need to alter it at this time. On our typical house shot the ball offered superior roll in the middle part of the lane and hit like a truck.
Overall we feel Columbia has brought out another great ball to the marketplace.

Let me preface this review by stating that I am a NOVICE bowler. I started bowling about 10 weeks ago and was enjoying it enough that I decided I would buy some gear. I tried my best to educate myself on the various ball types, instructional theories, etc. and decided to purchase the Columbia 300 Big Shot bowling ball recognizing that I would likely be purchasing a ball for which I wasn't quite ready. However, based on the above reviews and my decision to develop my habits with a "real" ball, this one is now in my bag. I'm happy to say that I am very satisfied with my choice. I'm a low rev, med-speed bowler and have no problems getting this ball to come from the outside boards back to the pocket virtually every time. Once it hits the back end and grabs, there's nothing I've seen from surrounding lanes that hits like this does. My only early concern is the coverstock. Within the first week I had it, I had 2 substantial chips appear. (1.25"L x .25"W x .25"D). Having not had other balls I'm not yet sure if this is normal wear and tear. In the 3 weeks I've had it, I've also had 4 other smaller chips appear. Time will tell, but I still feel the results I get with the ball are consistent. I choked at my first two chances at 200 last week, but know it will be a regular opportunity soon.

First of all I'd like to say that I have been bowling for over 30 years and have over a 200 average in several leagues and have bowled several 300 games. I have purchased several bowling balls, Columbia and Ebonite being my personal choices. I have all the "ONE" balls from Ebonite & several from Columbia. I don't know what the big hype is about the "Big shot" This ball is terrible. It does nothing but "lumber" down the lane for me. It hits the pocket like no other ball that I have ever owned. The sound when it hits is terrible. I am a "cranker" and I generally put it out and let it work. It just doesn't work for me. I even let one one of my team mates use it as his finger and thumb sizes are similar to mine. He could not do anything with it either! I have bowled over 40 games with this ball and my high game is only a 245. Maybe I got stuck with a lemon. Just my 2 cents worth. What a letdown. :(

Recently purchased the Columbia 300 Big Shot bowling ball. I am very happy with it. Thought this ball would not hook at all, low and behold it does hook. Bowled a 236, 259 and 215 for a 710 series. This is quite good for me actually. I normally hold an average of 161, using this ball recently increased my average.

I am a former 190+ bowler that has been out of the game for over 10 years. I was excited to find great advances in ball technology since that time. I decided to purchase two balls and have them both drilled for maximum performance as my local house has quite a bit of oil the big hook is the best course of action. I purchased the Columbia Big Shot and the Elite Green Alien.
I am pleased to announce that they were both great.
The Big Shot cover surface stock hooks more but they both can be set up to cover most situations. I have already bowled a 278, 276 and a 262 and have never enjoyed bowling so much!

OK first things first. If you want a ball that will hook and continue to hook right through the pocket then the Columbia 300 Big Shot bowling ball is the ball you want and need. I've thrown a lot of balls that are suppose to hook like no other but compared to the Big Shot they look like they only move a few boards. Those other balls don't hook like this one does. I have a few other balls in my bag: Elite Blue Alien, Ebonite Infinite One, and a few others but the Big Shot hooks the hardest. I have trouble with it if I don't get past the 20 board out to the 10 or 5. If I get it out far enough then it crushes the pocket and leaves nothing standing. If your a cranker then this is a good ball for you. If you like to go up the 10 board to the pocket without much hook try the Alien. The Columbia 300 Big Shot ball hooks the whole lane when the lanes are wet. So be careful when using this one.

I've purchased the Columbia Big Shot bowling ball in time to try it for a Friday league and rolled a 715. The ball live up to the hype. Big hook and lots of power. I'm very pleased because the angle the ball creates does not leave me with the troublesome 10 pin. This ball replaced my Hammer No mercy.

I was recently searching for a new ball and it came down to 3 balls the Columbia Big Shot, Ebonite's Angular One, and the Ebonite Total NV. I thought about getting the Big Shot, but the release date was too close to my tournament so I decided on the Angular one. When I came to my pro shop a week before it's stated release date I saw the Big Shot and bought it right then. Right out of the box I had a 253, 237, and a 279. I had a 210 average and since the Big Shot it has raised to a 228 average. It will hook massively so if your a bowler who doesn't put a lot of speed on your ball this might not be the ball to get, it is very hard to control, but if you can it will pay off.
