Technology
The BVP Mammoth brings two new technologies into the BVP line, Multi-Sided Symmetric Core Technology, and Activator High Load Particle Coverstock to create performance that improves on the reaction of balls such as the BVP Goliath and Swamp Monster.
Multi-Sided symmetric core designs have been used in Brunswick High Performance balls since 2000. Featuring exotic shapes that are easy to drill, the Multi-Sided shape is locked into the outer core, leaving little chance for core separation. The Rocket Core used in the 14-16 pound Mammoth pushes the RG to a lower level than previous BVP balls. Brunswick research has shown that lower RG…trade;s are a better match for today…trade;s lane conditions, which often include: high efficiency lubricants, daily full-lane stripping and longer, higher volume lane oil patterns. In this environment, lower RG…trade;s improve mid-lane traction and reduce over/under reactions at the breakpoint.
The Mammoth utilizes a High Load Particle version of Activator Coverstock Technology. Activator coverstock technology was introduced into Brunswick High Performance Balls in 2003 and is known for its durability and ball reaction. The Mammoth…trade;s Activator high load particle coverstock propels it to the highest hook potential rating ever for a Brunswick ball.
Reaction Characteristics
Out of the Box: With its 400-grit wet sand surface, the Mammoth creates an early rolling, big hooking reaction favored by high speed or lower rev rate players who struggle with too much length or too little reaction in the oil.
When shined: Dull surface finishes can sometimes hook too early resulting in reduced backend reaction and hitting power. To increase length, polish the surface with either Brunswick…trade;s Factory Finish “High Gloss Polish” or “Rough Buff”. After polishing your Mammoth will go longer in the oil and react stronger to the dry creating an arc, that while still even in character, is slightly more skid/snap than the “out-of•the-box” reaction. A polished Mammoth has a slightly lower hook potential and is an excellent choice for smoothing the over/under reactions bowlers sometimes see with Reactive coverstock balls. When the dry part of the lane is too dry, either in the track or at the end of the oil pattern, a polished Mammoth can smooth over reactions, maintain good traction in the oil, while retaining the big hook potential associated with Reactive coverstocks.

Core Design: Brunswick has a newly designed core for this BVP entry. The Rocket core is symmetric in nature and has a low RG rating of 2.499 with a .045 Diff. We saw 5' of track flare with both 4.5' pins (one with a weight hole) and our 3.5 pin.
Coverstock:The solid particle cover is sanded with 400 grit and is colored in copper and blue. The base is activator, and is infused with a high load of particle.
Manufacturer's Intent:
Says Brunswick, The BVP Mammoth brings two new technologies into the BVP line, Multi-Sided Symmetric Core Technology and Activator High Load Particle Coverstock, to create performance that improves on the reaction of balls such as the BVP Goliath and Swamp Monster. The Activator cover alone is worth the price of admission. Bowlers who liked the Goliath should enjoy the fact that the Mammoth hooks both earlier and more.
Test Results:
This ball will not overshoot the breakpoint for almost any style of bowler on any medium to heavier volume pattern. -We had no need to back down our ball speed on our heavier or longer patterns. The Mammoth wants to read the midlane, and there is very little one can do to prevent it. The Mammoth is an early motion ball with plenty of continuation, as long as it's used on the proper oil pattern for an individual's speed-to-rev ratio.
When to Use:
The Mammoth will match up well on medium to oilier volumes on either wood or synthetics. Players with higher speed-to-rev ratios could find success on lighter volumes as long as the pattern had decent length. We had our best results playing right of 12th board to the gutter; this keeps our shoulders more square to our target lines. Most particles are classified as slow response covers, which means they don't make quick, assertive moves off friction. Particles respond more gradually off dry boards, which makes them the perfect choice for bowlers looking for a smooth reaction, similar to that of yesteryear's urethane. But do realize these are dramatically more aggressive than your old burgundy Hammer when encountering today's higher viscosity oils.

I have a 13 pound Brunswick BVP Mammoth and it's coverstock is kinda touchy with certain oil patterns it has to be just right for real oily condition's, I throw a backup ball and the highest game I've been able to get with it is a 195 but I have it slightly polished and am still working with it. It is good on conditions that aren't super oily.

The Brunswick BVP Mammoth bowling ball has a special place in my heart now. I went to a Junior Gold Tournament in Everett to try and qualify for the Junior Gold Tournament in Buffalo New York. It was on a PBA pattern that I hadn't bowled on before and didn't know anything about. We bowled 6 games and I used this ball the whole time. After it was all over, I found out that I won the Junior Gold. I'm only 14 bowling against guys that average 220 and are 18-21 years old. And I won using a 15 pound BVP Mammoth. I ended up with an 1167. All thanks to the Mammoth.

This is a very good ball for people that want to learn to throw the all mighty hook. It will help you to see were you need to place the ball to get the best reaction out of it.

I bought the Brunswick BVP Mammoth bowling ball on Friday. Today is Thursday. The first time using it I had a 200,212,200 for a 612 series. This ball is made for big hook and synthetic lanes, as well as, oily conditions. I strongly recommend this ball.

The Brunswick BVP Mammoth bowling ball is a great ball and it is cheap. The break is good and so is the coverstock. Raised my average a bit. This is a must buy for any bowler.

The Brunswick BVP Mammoth bowling ball is advertised as a mid-priced super hooker with control. That's about as perfect a description as you can get. I started bowling again in about 1994 and have gone through many balls, and have fought with every one of them, never able to get the ball to work like it was built up to. I was never able to get my average above the mid 180's. However, with the Brunswick BVP Mammoth, the last three weeks I've averaged over 200. It has been a joy to throw! It's almost effortless. All you need is simple adjustments for changing lane conditions. This ball is so very easy to control, easy to throw, and easy on the wallet. A combo you can't beat and with this ball you will be hard to beat.

I am now at my third ball in the BVP series. It is very good in heavy oil because of its high load particle coverstock. On any oil it is a good ball. The ball is a little bit harder to control than the wizard but it is still a very good ball. It took the place of the sidewinder as my second go to ball.

After reviewing several different balls, I decided to purchase this ball for one of my teammates. He was having a difficult time throwing a hook and carrying the deck. The primary reason I picked this ball was the high load particle. It allows the ball to read the lane early and correct on poorly thrown shots. My teammate had a 101 average before I drilled this ball for him. We drilled it fairly straight up with minimal side weight due to the fact that he has a low rev rate and slow ball speed. The ball hooks great for his style of bowling and he has averaged 145 for the past 4 weeks with the new ball. If you are just getting into bowling and are trying to get a ball to hook for you give the Mammoth a try and you won't be disappointed.
