Hi Gordon,

I would go into the pro shop in Ormond Lanes and talk to Mike Seymour. He is he pro shop manager of our Ormond Lanes Pro Shop Location. He will help you determine the lane condition and the best equipment to use for it. He will go out on the lanes with you to watch you bowl to help from that point of view as well.

When you have difficalties with the Lane conditions,First, try to get a good feeling about your Balance and than work on your ball speed.Howfar are you standing from the faultline,How do you hold your ball.Measur your steps. For curve ball, the position of the hand, the release of the ball is important.
When you have a poor condition, you can try to give the ball more speed,by standing farther away from the faultline, hold your ball not to low so you can give the ball a great swing. And for a rich condition try the opposite..
When you have the permission to walk alongside the Lane maybe you can see till how far the Lane is oiled, this is also the position wher the curve ball get his grip and goes from slide to roll and hooks.
Maybe you can do someting with it,keep on practice

That is a great idea for a practice drill. Thank you for the idea and comment. I definitely want to give that a try.

This drill will also get you thinking about how you are playing the lanes, and making you remember from shot to shot. This is where my biggest problem is now. I tend to forget what I did a frame or two ago. Sure, I remember if I screwed up the frame, but not where I was standing and aiming.

I bowl in two leagues at the Ormond Lanes, located in Ormond Beach, Fl, I do not know what oil patterns they put down on the lanes nor do I know if they apply light, medium or heavy oil, or how long the patterns are. I have asked several people who work there, but nobody seems to know this information. How can you practice and learn what kind of equipment to buy and use when you do not know what the lane conditions are. Any help would be great.

When it is impossible to have management change lane conditions for you, change balls. For example, I use a Black Widow on my league house. To simulate longer oil, I use the Black Widow Pearl. I work my alignment until I start hitting the pocket. Then I work it some more until I start carrying Another excercise I use is to bowl accross two lanes, using different balls. I must get to the pocket within three frames with all my balls. Sometimes I'll have as many as six balls.
