Oil that is pushed or carried down the lane by bowling balls when the lane is in use.

What does it mean when someone says the ball CARRY's well? Not carry down as in the oil moving down the lane, but someone saying this ball has good "Carry" And what is a "Ringer?"
Patrick,
Great Questions.
Carry refers to the ball and lanes having the ability to strike. If you are carrying, then you are striking. If you are throwing the ball well and hitting the pocket, but not striking, then you are said to not be carrying. Some people blame the ball, some the pins, and yet others blame the lanes.
A Ringer can be one of two things in my mind. Not sure which you are referring to. 1) There is the ringer on a team that has an established low average and consistently bowls above their average. 2) The ringing 10 pin. If you hit the pocket and watch the 6 pin it will either take out the 10 pin, or bounce of the side boards and ring around the 10 pin, leaving a ringer.
I hope these made sense and answered your questions.
What does medium and heavy mean when talking about the weight of the ball - 14, 14 medium, 14 heavy. Is it the actual weight or is it the way it is weighted that changes the way it bowls?
