What I Was Looking For In This Layout: I wanted to a ball reaction similar to my Virtual Gravity, so I was looking for another ball to hook... just not as much as my Virtual. With the Rogue Cell's Cytoplasmic XL Hybrid coverstock, I decided to put one of my favorite layouts on it to try and achieve the reaction I wanted.
What I Ended Up With In This Ball Layout: If you've thrown a Cell, whether it's a solid or pearl, you are going to want this addition in your bag. If you haven't thrown a Cell... What are you doing?! This is a great addition to the line offering a different reaction that compliments the Cell and Cell Pearl. With the layout I put on my Rogue Cell, it now allows me to play a similar line to my Virtual Gravity, only it clears the heads a little easier with the Hybrid coverstock.
The Hybrid Reactive coverstock allows me to be versatile and play different areas of the lane when needed. If I'm playing on a medium condition or burnt lanes, I can stand left and throw right with little worry of having the ball recover back to the pocket due to the energy saved down the lane. When the lanes are fresh and a little tighter, I can square up and watch this ball make a left turn off the fresh backends.
My recommendation is that if you have not tried any ball in the Cell line, this would be a good time to start. If you do have a Cell, the Rogue Cell is the perfect compliment. The Hybrid reactive coverstock allows bowlers of all styles to play their favorite part of the lane. If you're a cranker, you can tune the surface and swing the whole lane. If you're a tweener, polish the surface and head outside. No matter what your favorite line to play is, the Rogue Cell's combination of core and coverstock allow any bowler to easily fine tune the reaction for the perfect reaction desired.

The new Roto-Grip Rogue Cell is the latest in the Cell Line from Roto-Grip.Based on the drilling instruction included with the ball, I went with the 5x3, 2" buffer. This was touted as the Layout Everybody Needs. The pin is 5" from my PAP, the MB is 3" from the PAP and the Pin is 2" off the VAL.
While shooting our video, I was highly impressed with the overall reaction of this bowling ball. Keeping in mind that I am only a 180-190 average bowler, it took very few takes to shoot good video with this bowling ball.
There was another bowler that looked at the ball and was very curious about the coverstock. The Hybrid coverstock is a very nice blend of a solid and a pearlized cover. This gave the ball great length and power to grip it and rip it back to the pocket.
What a great bowling ball. Great job Roto-Grip.

The Rogue Cell is a must have bowling ball as part of a serious bowlers arsenal. Gets down the lane well and moves off the break point with determination. I have not had the pleasure of rolling a ball like this for quite some time. This one is a winner. I can't think of a single bowler would not benefit from owning the Rogue Cell.

Update: I compared this to a fresh Hybrid Cell and I had to move left 4 boards and I had to watch my ball speed, cause if I got soft with the Rogue it was through the face. I used this ball at the Pinnacle in Clarksville, TN and shot 765 and had all kinds of room with this ball! This ball gets through the heads with ease and has a similar look of the Pearl at the break point, only stronger with the continuation as the original Cell.

To revisit the Cell. Again if you haven't thrown one your missing out. The Cell core creates a shape and predictability no other balls have matched. For tougher patterns its hard to find a better look or success than the Cell. No other ball has been able to maintain the differential as long as the cell.
The 3rd installment of the cell series and possibly the most versatile. I've drill all 3 the same with a modified RICO layout. I didn’t think there would be much different from the first 2 but I was wrong. While the original Cell is by far the earliest of the series and the Pearl Cell is the longest. The Rogue fits easily in between. The Rogue provides great overall control of the lane with its Hybrid coverstock. Definitely not suited for drier patterns but easily adjust with a little polish.
The way I see it this makes lane play a little easier.
Where do you want to attack the lanes.
Heads: Cell
Mids: Rogue
Backend: Cell Pearl
The Rogue Cell could be this years best stimulus package!

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I sort of went with this drilling to cut down on the amount of flare that I was getting with my other equipment. From the start, I wanted my first RotoGrip ball to be different from what I had in my bag. This ball flares, but not to the extreme like the other layouts that I have. I was also looking for something that would control the midlane, but be strong on the backend.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
This is my first RotoGrip ball, but it will not be my last. I literally ended up with the best benchmark ball on the market today. Period! If you are looking for a ball to tell you what type of condition you are bowling on, this is the ball for you. The hybrid cover with the proven Cell core is right on the money. This combination of cover and core are perfect together. Seriously.
I am one of the biggest Storm fans. However, Storm does not have a ball in their arsenal that is as complete of a ball as the Rogue Cell. The Rogue reads the midlane as smoothly as any ball that I have ever seen. It is so smooth down the lane. When it hits that backend, it is agressive off of the spot, but not violent like some of the pieces from RotoGrip or Storm. The backend of the Rogue is strong, yet controlled. The Rogue also hits the pocket very hard. The hit is strong and continuous.
One of the main positive aspects of the Rogue is that it simply ignores the front part of the lane. Whether out of box or with polish the Rogue clears the fronts very well. It gets through the heads with ease and then starts to read the midlane.
Now, on the other hand, the Rogue is not a hook monster. There are other balls on the market that will out hook the Rogue. However, I will say that the backend of the Rogue is arguably one of the best on the market today. And folks, that it where it counts.
The Rogue does not like a heavily oiled lane unless there is a few dry boards at the back of the pattern. Overall, it handles carrydown very well and will generally continue on to the pocket regardless of condition. It really shows its true strengths on a medium heavy to medium condition. You can use this ball all day as long as you have some oil. As for the dry lanes, put it back in your bag. This is not a dry lanes ball.
In closing, in my opinion, RotoGrip has produced what is arguably one of the best balls on the market. The Rogue has to be the most versatile ball out right now. You can use it on most conditions as long as you have some oil. It is very driller friendly, and the cover/core combination is absolutely fantastic. From what I have seen from the two other Cell balls, the Rogue is the more versatile of the line. It can be used on more conditions and it is just as strong, if not stronger, than the other two balls.
I will be purchasing more RotoGrip balls, however, it will only be more Rogue Cells. LOL! Great job, RotoGrip.
Peace!
