Develop a Pre Shot Routine |
|
A pre-shot routine is a key that any bowler holds. That key unlocks the door to more consistent performance. If you have watched the Professional Bowlers Association or any other sport for that matter, you will notice that athletes have a routine they go through before performing a repetitive task.
In tennis, you may see a player bounce the ball 3-4 times, take a deep breath, then toss the ball for their serve.
In basketball, you might witness a player dribble the ball twice and give the ball a spin before he/she attempts a free throw. Bowling is not any different. We all know that the key to doing anything well is being prepared and ready. Having a routine helps an athlete get comfortable and allows them time to prepare for the next shot. It also makes each attempt feel the same as any other attempt, which will help out in times when the pressure is high. Jason Couch, a star on the PBA tour consistently picks up the ball, wipes off the ball with three turns on the towel, a few seconds with the hand over the hand-dryer, a deep breath, steps up on the lane, gets set, and lets it rip! Anyone can develop a pre-shot routine. All it takes is some practice. A routine can consist of wiping off the bowling ball, drying your hand, and a few breaths. There you have it. A routine unique to you! |
