Bowling Shoes

Choosing the proper bowling shoe can be a daunting task. There are so many to choose from, with a very wide range of prices.

The first thing to ask yourself is: are you a recreational bowler or a league bowler?

The recreational bowler might bowl as little as once a year to a couple of times per month. If you are used to renting bowling shoes, you are no doubt aware that the rental fees have been rising. You can spend anywhere from $2-$5 just to rent a pair of bowling shoes. You can easily choose one of the less expensive bowling shoes on our website and be saving money after just about 6 bowling outings.

For league bowlers, it becomes much more important to spend a little extra. The higher end bowling shoes will have replaceable soles and heels. You may ask, why replace the soles and heels?

There are two main reasons for doing this:
  1. If you bowl at different bowling lanes, you will notice that the approach is different. Some are more slick than others, and vice versa. To be a consistent bowler, you need to have a consistent approach, including the slide at the end. If you get to a house that is more slick, you can use a sole and/or heel that will help you slide less. And if you find yourself "sticking" you can use a higher numbered sole to help slide more.
  2. A big reason is if the sole of your bowling shoe gets wet, it will reduce your slide to zero. The easiest resolution is to just replace the sole. This is not possible on rentals or the less expensive versions.
That's it for these tips. I hope that this has helped you understand why there is such a large discrepancy in pricing for bowling shoes.
