Scott and Gus go up to the bar and order up some drinks and when they get back to their lanes both bowl a strike. However, they bowled on the incorrect lanes. The team captains had a laugh and let the scores stand since they were both leadoff bowlers and the scores showed up correctly on the centers automatic scoring system. Is this correct?
Answer: Since the score sheet is correct this does not make it correct. A dead frame should have been called, following rule # 9 in the ABC rulebook, and the scores should be erased. Then Gus and Scott should re-bowl the frame. However, if the second bowlers on each team bowled on the correct lane, the recorded scores from Gus and Scott would stand.
Neither John nor Henrys teams were in the running to win the league, but Henry, who is a left-handed bowler, was not playing well on the final night of the league. Henry steps up and leaves a stone 7 on a nice pocket shot in the 10th. For laughs, he converted the spare throwing the ball right handed. Both teams got a great laugh, but Henrys team captain gave him a zero for the frame. It was all in good fun, what is the harm it that?
Answer: A left-handed bowler must bowl every shot with his left hand in any given game. This is in the ABC rulebook under rule 118b. Whether this was done for laughs or score advantage, delivering with the opposite hand is illegal. Watch out because Henrys entire game or even his team total could have been forfeited.
There has been some talk about Chris going out about a half an hour to an hour before league starts and practicing on the lanes he will be using later that night. Last week Chris bowled an 800 series and he is already an excellent bowler, but isnt that cheating..even just a little.
Answer: Unfortunately, there is no such rule in the ABC rule book prohibiting practice before league play. However, the league can agree to a no-practice rule and speak with the proprietor. Without this league ruling the league has no authority on this matter until league play begins.
