What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
With the success of just about every Widow before it I used a very simple layout that should give me a good read on the overall motion of the newest Widow to date.

With a 5 x 5 layout I get to see the potential of the ball to get down the lane, even with the strong coverstock. I also get to see how much this can really move on the back end of the lane.


What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
I got exactly what you would expect from a Widow. A really strong ball motion right off my hand with a very smooth transition from the heads to the mid-lane. The ball seemed to be fine clearing the friction, if the lanes started to dry out quicker this ball may have read the friction a little too early. Nothing a little polish could not handle. I think on most house shots this would hold up just fine for quite some time.

The part that surprised me was the amount of energy this ball had left over for the back ends! With the strong cover and the 2000 grit Abralon you would expect to see some roll out or at least a little loss of motion on the back part of the lane. But the Sting as most of the Widows before it kept on moving right through the pins.

All in all another successful Black Widow series release for Hammer.

Hammer has done it again the Black Widow Sting is another ball from Hammer that you need in your bag.If you drilled a Black Widow Bite and did not get the strong move in the back end the Sting is what you need.

I was very disappointed with the reaction and the longevity of the Black Widow Sting. That something special seems to be missing from this ball. It rolls ok but I would stay with any other ball in the Widow line, except for the Bite, I think any one knows to avoid the Bite. The ball is very high maintenance and does not finish through the pins like its predecessors. The only thing that would make this ball worth it is that this ball needs to be in the 84.99 price point range, pay more than that and you could have got something more for your buck. I would also lower the perfect scale rating 10 pins if it were me.

My coach has gotten a demo ball for this already and I've been fortunate to try it. It's not anything special for me. It's cool looking, and it's a really good ball, but it's nothing new. No bad meanings to Hammer and Brunswick, but they keep putting the same core in and putting a different coverstock on. I really couldn't see the ball really sliding through the pins. It easily deflects off the pins. Wouldn't get this over the Rogue, Gravity or the Energy as those were other balls I've tried out. I am hearing that my coach is saying that the Jigsaw is the top one to get soon. He's waiting to get a demo ball however. The best widow to me is a tie between the Venom and the Pearl.

I am a beginner bowler with low, and I desperately needed a ball that had a stronger backend reaction. I talked to the operator at my local proshop and he recommended either the sting or the storm Virtual Energy. After about a month of deliberating i finally decided on the sting;BOY DID I MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION. The black widow sting delivered the boost in backend i was looking for AND SOME.I drilled my sting skid/flip, 5 1/2 inches from pin to pap, and i couldn't believe how much this thing kicks. i can throw it fairly straight, get a clean motion through the heads without too much flare, and send the Sting plowing towards the pocket!Hammer lied... the Sting doesn't hit like a hammer... it hits like a hand grenade!I shot a 208 straight out of the box,which completely dwarfed my typical 180ish, and for a beginner I was blown away. I absolutely LOVE the black widow sting, and would HIGHLY recommend it to any bowler looking for a boost in backend reaction

I bought this ball a few weeks ago but just got it drilled. I use Layout 3 for a medium track, with the pin just a smidge more outside my ring finger than in the diagram.

I bowl at 2 different houses, one with medium oil and one with heavy. Had been struggling to break 150 on the heavy oil with my other ball (reactive cover but no core).

First night out I was averaging 185, including a personal best six strikes in a row one game. I am a stroker and I tend to stick to the track. I put the ball over, or even somewhere near, the second arrow and was amazed at how hard the Sting cut back to the pocket. I also found that I could miss my target by two boards either way and still get a lot of strikes with some standing 10 and 7 pins.

I am in love with this new ball! I'll definitely be trying another Hammer product soon.

this ball is great! i am new in bowling and this is my fist ball and i love it. it finds the pocket really easy and has a hook you can control.

This ball (Hammer Sting) is absolutely the most insane ball i have ever had the privilege of throwing. it travels long and has the sharpest back end i have ever seen. Drilling #1 - Skid/Flip Layout(High Track).

The hammer black widow sting is a great ball for anyone who is looking for a ton of hook potential. Since using the sting my league average has improved thirty pins. Before the sting I used the Track Heat which was a great ball back in the day but obviously I needed something new. I checked the web and asked my pro shop manager what ball would be right for me. Both recommended the sting. What I found was that the Black Widow Sting is great for anyone looking for a strong back end motion, which I was no longer getting from my Heat. With the amount of revs I put on the ball I stand on the second dot to the right and throw the ball over the middle arrow. The ball comes right back in the pocket for a strike. I have also found this ball great for picking up the ten pin and a few nasty splits. The Black Widow Sting is necessity to anyone looking for a strong back end and the ultimate amount of hook.
