The Perfect Rival was developed to complement both the Rival and Arch Rival in terms of total hook. This is the third ball in the series and features another great shell developed by the chemists at EBI called “Perfect 300”. The chemistry produces more friction than the Arch Rival's 300 Plus, but less than the original shell on the Rival. Perfect 300, combined with our proven Spinner core, produce a ball that is great when there is oil left of your target line out of the box, and with some polish will outperform both previous models on the backend of the lane.

Specs:

  • Core: Spinner Symmetric
  • Veneer: Perfect 300
  • Surface: 4000 Abralon
  • RG: (15lbs) 2.470
  • Differential: (15lbs) 0.045

About the Bowler
Bowling Hand    Right Handed
League Average    210
Sport Shot Average    170
Style    Tweener
PAP    4-15/16 x 13/16
First, I'm a right handed bowler, 205+ Average Tweener with speed around 17 mph.

I got the ball laid out 5 x 4 which gives me good length and a very hard rolling motion.

I have about 20 games on the ball already, 12 on a THS, and 7 on sport conditions. I have to say this ball is amazing. It has no problems getting through the heads, even at it's box 4000 finish. It's a fairly low RG ball so you see it start to rev up in the mid-lane. When it makes it's motion off the dry, it absolutely destroys the pin deck.

With the combination of this coverstock, core, and the layout used, I am able to play multiple angles with this ball and still carry well. On a house pattern I've been able to play the track area, as well as deep inside. On the PBA Scorpion pattern I could have played across 5 different arrows with the ball.

If you're a cranker, you'll probably want a weaker drilling.

If you throw it slow, you'll want to polish it for sure.

I can see potential for using this ball in any Medium to Heavy oil condition. I could possibly see it being used in a Medium-Light condition with some polish, but I wouldn't recommend it for extremely dry conditions.

This ball seems to be a hidden gem. I don't see many people throwing it but it's an incredibly solid performer at a good price.

The Perfect Rival is your answer to all your bowling problems. I bought this ball from bowlingball.com and had it drilled at our local pro shop. I shot a 276 with this ball straight out of the box. I ended up the 1st night using this ball with a 750 series. This ball reads the lane very nice and hit like a mack truck. I missed my make by a couple boards a couple time and this ball still carried. I have a 200 avg before the 750 i shit which is my highest this year. Without doubt this ball with get back to the 215 avg i am used to. Thanks Columbia 300 and bowlingball.com. Did you find this review helpful? Yes No

Looking for the perfect benchmark ball? The Perfect Rival is your answer. Drilled mine with the pin 3 ½ inches from my axis above the ring finger with the CG kicked out, but no hole needed. For me this is a really strong drilling and even out of the box the Perfect Rival manages to clear the front part of the lane with ease. The Perfect Rival then gets into a hard roll instead of a flip, much like the reaction of the original Black Widow. The Perfect Rival however, hits with much more force than the Black Widow did. Like I said, if you are looking for that perfect benchmark ball to be the first ball out of your bag every time, the Perfect Rival is what you are looking for.

Two regrets: one, the ball is discontinued; second, I didn't buy an extra one when I had the chance. As one reviewer already posted, this ball is indeed a hidden gem. It is absolutely not for dry lanes, or late series games (except maybe with a little polish), but it is definitely a go-to ball in most all other conditions. Two of my teammates, one with a Virtual Gravity and the other with a Sauce, are amazed at the PR's performance, especially at the price point. I have managed to roll just as many 200 games as they have in our PBA Experience league, and my average is lower than theirs. I attribute that fact more to the ball than to my ability. It has good mid-lane read, moves to the breakpoint, then accelerates through the deck with great carry. I find it reacts well to small moves throughout the set and keeps making a strong consistent move to the pocket. Carrydown doesn't seem to effect it much at all. This ball is much better than my Dimension, as it never seems to quit and I don't get into as many over/under situations. the PR has become the first ball out of my bag for every league...its just a great benchmark ball. If you have the opportunity to pick one up somewhere, I would strongly recommend you do so...I think you will be very surprised and pleased by just how good it is. Did you find this review helpful?
