The deadly Siege is the first in our new series of Pro Performance balls and features the new MACE asymmetrical core as well as the new solid Propel coverstock. This is a strong ball that battles heavy oil and responds quickly to friction for great pin action.

Core

M.A.C.E. " Mechanical Asymmetric Core Engineering. The MACE core has three major benefits, Ultra Low RG core system to engage the Propel coverstock, High RG differential to aid in traction through heavy oil and High RG asymmetric differential to quicken the response time to friction. Designed as a two component elliptical core
system, the MACE core is dynamically the strongest asymmetric core ever produced for a Brunswick ball.

Coverstock

Introducing Propel coverstock the next extension in Brunswick coverstock technology. Propel is a revolutionary coverstock developed by Brunswick to improve the mid-lane and backend traction of the ball on today's slicker oils and lane surfaces. The Propel coverstock was discovered through testing of new formulation additives and process changes in coverstock manufacturing.

Ball Motion

The Siege unites the new Propel coverstock and the MACE core to produce a ball motion that is both aggressive in the oil and aggressive on the backend. The Siege is your ball when your game needs help battling heavy oil conditions and poor pin action.

Seize the lanes, Conquer the pins, Defeat your opponent!!

Micro Finishing Pads

Micro finishing pads have revolutionized the bowling industry by creating smooth surface finishes that many bowlers would assume are polished with a wax or similar compound. The benefit to the bowler is these finishes create length similar to balls coated with compound finishes, but are better able to handle today's thicker oils and carrydown. The Siege is finished with 1000-grit micro pads driven by the new Haus high speed bowling ball resurfacing machine.

Reaction Characteristics

Out of the Box: With its 1000-grit micro pad finish, the Siege will provide excellent mid-lane recovery and a strong continuous backend reaction that matches up on medium to oily lane conditions for a wide range of bowling styles.

If your Siege goes too long:. A smooth surface will sometimes cause the ball to go too long before breaking. To get your Siege rolling sooner, dull the surface with a 500-grit micro pad. To further increase hooking action, use a rougher abrasive to create an earlier reaction.

If your Siege hooks too early: Smooth your Siege with 2000-grit micro pad to increase the length. If more length is needed smooth the surface to 4000-grit micro pad. If more length is still desired use Brunswick's Factory Finish High Gloss Polish to increase length to the maximum.

Reaction Setup: The Siege can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.

The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
This has become one of my more frequently used layouts. If it is matched up to the right ball the reaction is amazing. I have not been able to duplicate this ball motion with any other layouts, so when I want to compare ball to ball from different manufacturers I tend to use this layout as a benchmark.

We heard nothing but good things from Brunswick on the Siege. The cover and core combination has been in the works at Brunswick for some time and they were waiting until it was perfect to release it. We were looking for a different ball motion from Brunswick on this ball. The word was that the Siege was going to deliver that motion and take Brunswick forward with their
performance line of balls.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Finally, I say that in the best way possible. The Siege finally gives Brunswick a chance to compete with the ball motions of some of the other ball companies.

My Siege rolled awesome, off my hand it looked as strong as anything else I have seen lately. As the ball transitioned into the middle part of the lane it did not lose energy and kept the really heavy roll all the way through to the back ends. On the back the ball had a smooth yet strong roll back into the pocket. Overall hook was as high as I as I have seen from them in the
last few releases.

I think on most patterns bowled on by league bowlers the Siege will match up as good as the other guys ball releases for this season. We are going to re-test the ball again since we had some lane conditioning issues on the first go around. But as you will see if you watch the video it did not really effect the overall ball motion we saw from the Siege.

Brunswick is back on top with the new Pro Performance Siege!

Brian Halstrom Brunswick Siege Drilling Layout

The new Brunswick Siege is the first in their new series of Pro Performance balls and features the new MACE asymmetrical core as well as the new solid Propel coverstock.

Pin to PAP (4 1/2" over 1/2" up) - 5"
Mass Bias - 2" right of Center Line

Surface Preparation - Left at Box Finish

What I Was Looking For In This Layout: We've been hearing that Brunswick was looking to create something that was very aggressive and this was that ball. I was looking for this ball to really move on the backends for me.

What I Ended Up With In This Ball Layout: I'd have to say that this layout gave me a great look on heavy oil. I tested this ball on a modified house shot with a higher volume of oil. The Brunswick Siege really starts gripping the lane early because I left the surface at box finish.

With the combination of the new M.A.C.E. core and Solid Propel coverstock, this ball generates a ton of reaction and a very large flare around the ball. I would have to say that this ball flares nearly 7" for me.

On the heavier oiled condition that I tested the Brunswick Siege on, I stood on the 30 board and stroked the ball out to the 8 board at the breakpoint. With the box surface and strong midlane reaction, this ball had no problems at all getting back to the pocket and exploding the pins. I even left a few nine pins which isn't a bad thing with the matte surface.

To see what this ball could do, I moved right on the approach to try and play a tighter line to the pocket. This line worked well too as the ball did not seem to have any difficulty clearing the heads.

As the lanes broke down, the surface at box finish proved to be too much for me. This is going to be a great addition to my bag for heavy oil. For lighter to medium oiled shots, all you would need to do is hit the coverstock with some Brunswick Factory Finish Polish and it would react great on the backends.

I think Brunswick did a great job in creating the Siege with the new M.A.C.E. core and wrapping it with the Solid Propel coverstock. I recommend this ball to anyone in search of more hook in heavy oil.

I left the Brunswick Siege at Box Finish during the review.

We have been talking with Brunswick about the new Siege and were expecting to have a monster of a bowling ball. In preparation we used a modified house shot with slightly heavier oil.

The Brunswick Siege surely delivered on performance. This Pro Performance bowling ball was great on the heavier oil. Driving through the heads and gripping and ripping on the backends.

This bowling ball will make a great addition to my bowling bag. It will probably be a first game ball until the lanes start to breakdown, where you will want something less aggressive.

Brunswick's Siege is a new high end ball designed to combat heavier volume oil patterns. The Siege has a asymmetric core named M.A.C.E. (Mechanical Asymmetric Core Engineering) which is a very Low RG core designed work with a new coverstock call Recoil. The M.A.C.E. core's High differential will assist traction in higher volume patterns and the High RG asymmetric differential will allow the Siege to respond quicker to friction. Brunswick's Recoil cover is designed to improve mid-lane and backend reaction that allows you to combat today's oils and lane surfaces.

I smoothed the Siege down to 4000 abralon then drilled it 45x5x65 with a weight hole about one inch from the mass bias mark. On the house pattern this ball created surprising length, strong but controllable move at the break, and it went through the pins with amazing energy. I was able to use this ball for 2 out of the 3 games in league competition before it became too much ball. I then tested my Siege on the 2009 USBC pattern even though I had to play the lanes straighter the ball still gave me a really good reaction, but I wanted to see what the Siege would do if I took it back to 1000 abralon. After The quick surface adjustment the Siege really showed its teeth I had more area at the break point (a good 2 to 3 boards) with this ball than I have had with my other equipment. I found it really great that even at the 1000 abralon finish the ball still cleared the heads and maintained energy at the pins. I would have say that I have found my new favorite ball to use on high volume patterns.

About the Bowler

PAP    5" over 7/8" up

I am a right handed bowler with average speed and rev rate. PAP is 5" over and 7/8" up. I just drilled the Seige last week and I am really impressed by the amount of hook yet control with this ball. The layout I chose on the ball is pin under ring finger with 4 3/8" Pin to PAP, 5" MB to PAP with MB at 55 degrees. Decided to tweak the surface to 1500 to get the ball down the lane just a little further.

On a typical house shot the Seige allows you to open up the lane more and more throughout the night. So far I have noticed that carrydown doesn't slow this ball down one bit. There are shots that you throw that you normally would expect to not carry or come back but the Seige drives right through the pin deck not leaving anything in its path. With the Seige I am able to hit the transition of the lanes faster and make more efficient moves. With some balls playing deep isn't an option due to the lack of carry but that is not the case with the Seige.

On harder shots, such as the PBA Chameleon pattern I was able to still have a greater room for error than the people I was bowling with. There were times they would miss right and leave a wash out, while I could miss a few more boards right and the ball would still recover. As the lanes transitioned, the Seige was responsive to the moves I made and allowed me to attack the lanes from multiple angles, which proved beneficial when trying to find a fresh reaction.

As I encounter more shots or try new things with the Seige I will post my findings , but I expect that I will just continue to be more and more impressed.

Ball: Brunswick Siege

Layout:

Pin 5” from PAP below fingers
60-degree locator line angle
(Dual-angle: 60 by 5” by 70)
No XH

Initial Surface Preparation:

Box finish

Purpose:

To give me a more angular look on oilier medium conditions. I’ve been using a Maxxx Zone on volume, and it does the job well as long as I play more direct. If I need to open up the midlane or back end, though, I usually have to turn to something like the Wild Ride and choke down on the shot, as the Maxxx doesn’t like crossing boards.

Why this ball?

The Siege is intended to be extremely strong, and to compete with the high-end offerings from other manufacturers. It was also designed to be more lateral at the break than other recent Brunswick high-end balls, such as the Twisted Fury Solid.

Observations:

The first time I threw the Siege was at a center with HPL in front and older wood in back. For whatever reason, the lanes weren’t playing quite as forgiving as usual. There wasn’t as much of a launchpad in front, or the usual amount of recovery room to the outside. However, the Siege did a decent job of navigating this condition. I did have to get my feet further left than with the other equipment in the bag, but it still saved enough energy to make a strong move at the break and kick the corners.

I used the Siege again at this center when the condition was playing more favorable, and I was particularly impressed at the way this ball stayed on line in the front part of the lane, and just how angular the reaction was down lane. In box finish, though, I was seeing a bit of over-under at the break during transition, so I took the ball up to 2000 smooth and tried it again the following week. This let me play a straighter trajectory, which improved my carry due to my not giving up as much of the pocket, but I still seemed to have the same recovery when I did lose a shot right of target down lane.

Conclusions:

The first time I threw the Siege, I was reminded of the reaction that I had with the Strike Zone, but without the flutter. The Siege gives me a much cleaner look in the front part of the lane, and gives me more forgiveness at the break. This ball is also significantly less sensitive to minor variations in my release than the Strike Zone was.

The other thing that I’ve noticed with the Siege is that it maintains its presence through the pin deck, even on shots that recover from wide of target. With the Strike Zone, and to a lesser degree the Twisted Fury Solid, I had to be careful to not let the ball didn’t cover too many boards in the back part of the lane, as my carry would suffer. I haven’t yet had this problem with the Siege.

For me, the Siege has proven to be a worthy complement to the Maxxx Zone for higher volumes. On tighter patterns, where I have to play more direct but still need to get the ball into a roll sooner, the Maxxx Zone is still my ball of choice. However, on fresher house or “Holiday Tree” conditions, the Siege will allow me to create more area with its ability to read the dry and recover.

All I have to say is WOW, what a ball. A friend of mine let me throw his and this thing has got to be the most hooking ball I've ever thrown. I've got all the newest balls from Track, Hammer, Storm, and Ebonite and I'd have to say that this thing out hooks every single one of them.

This ball is pretty much awesome.
