MaxXX Zone Specs
MaxXX Zone, the ball to go to when you're looking for the Max. Maximum Hook, Maximum Traction, Maximum Performance even on oily lanes.
Core
The MaxXX Zone core uses the same inner core shape as the Smash Zone. However, the weight distribution between the inner core and outer core has been adjusted to raise the overall RG, so even with its aggressive PlaZma coverstock, the MaxXX Zone will clear the fronts and provide maximum traction in the mid and the back-ends even on the tightest lane conditions..
Coverstock
To maximize the performance of the MaxXX Zone, Brunswick has developed the new PlaZma coverstock. PlaZma sticks to the lane and continues to traction strong when other coverstocks break loose from the lane. When combined with the MaxXX Zone core this gives an unbeatable combination to attack the oiliest lane conditions and provide unparalleled lane hugging traction and recovery.
Reaction Characteristics
- Out of the Box: With its 600-grit wet sand surface, the MaxXX Zone will match-up well on medium to oily lane conditions for most bowlers and will be a good all around ball for bowlers with higher ball speed or lower rev rates.
- If your MaxXX Zone goes too long: The 600-wet sand out of the box finish can be adjusted to 400- or 220-wet sand if you need to get the MaxXX Zone to read the lane sooner.
- If your MaxXX Zone hooks too early: The MaxXX Zone has an aggressive surface preparation out of the box. by smoothing out the surface with progressively less aggressive finishes you will be able to move the reaction further down the lane.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
A few of the last Brunswick balls I tested tended to give me a real bad over/under ball reaction. In the past I have used traditional recommended layouts for these balls. Lately I have been doing a lot of our ball tests using this layout. It tends to help smooth out the ball motion while still allowing for plenty of hook down lane.
All we have heard about the MaxXX Zone is that it hooks. Judging by the way the cover stock looked out of the box I would have agreed without even seeing the ball go down the lane. We immediately thought it would be best to smooth out the 600 grit wet sand finish with some 4000 grit Abralon. After about 20 minutes in the Haus resurfacing machine with 4000 grit Abralon we found the ball to appear shiny as if we polished it. As I stated above there is no polish on this ball. The cover just smoothed out so much that it appears shiny. This was very common a few years ago for ball companies to use really high grit abrasives from the factory and it gave the ball a polished look with the texture of a matte or dull ball.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
We only had time to do a little testing with this ball. We will do more in the next few days and update if need be. From what I saw right away I like the ball motion. It definitely was smooth through off my hand, I attribute this to the cover preparation. Down lane the ball made a very sharp move off the friction and hit extremely hard.
In the next few days I will test this ball more and maybe play with the cover to get it closer to box finish and see what that does.

I recently changed my shot now to where I stand at the 30 board and throw at the 15-20 board.
I bought this ball because I wasn't getting the results I wanted out of my equipment.
All I can say is this ball is phenomenal! My first time throwing it I threw a 620, the 2nd time I threw it, I rolled a 651!
To me, this ball is forgiving because if I throw it out to far to the right it usually bites back, sometime to hard but it my delivery not the ball. If I throw it too far to the left it usually holds and goes brooklyn.
Previously, I had bad issues with leaving splits. Not anymore! This is the best ball I have ever bought and I highly recommend it!
