MaxXX Zone, the ball to go to when you're looking for the Max. Maximum Hook, Maximum Traction, Maximum Performance even on oily lanes.

Core
The MaxXX Zone core uses the same inner core shape as the Smash Zone. However, the weight distribution between the inner core and outer core has been adjusted to raise the overall RG, so even with its aggressive PlaZma coverstock, the MaxXX Zone will clear the fronts and provide maximum traction in the mid and the back-ends even on the tightest lane conditions..

Coverstock
To maximize the performance of the MaxXX Zone, Brunswick has developed the new PlaZma coverstock. PlaZma sticks to the lane and continues to traction strong when other coverstocks break loose from the lane. When combined with the MaxXX Zone core this gives an unbeatable combination to attack the oiliest lane conditions and provide unparalleled lane hugging traction and recovery.

Reaction Characteristics

  • Out of the Box: With its 600-grit wet sand surface, the MaxXX Zone will match-up well on medium to oily lane conditions for most bowlers and will be a good all around ball for bowlers with higher ball speed or lower rev rates.
  • If your MaxXX Zone goes too long: The 600-wet sand out of the box finish can be adjusted to 400- or 220-wet sand if you need to get the MaxXX Zone to read the lane sooner.
  • If your MaxXX Zone hooks too early: The MaxXX Zone has an aggressive surface preparation out of the box. by smoothing out the surface with progressively less aggressive finishes you will be able to move the reaction further down the lane.

The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

MaxXX Zone, the ball to go to when you're looking for the Max.

Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 6"
Mass Bias Position - n/a
CG Placement - center of grip
Balance Hole - none

Surface Preparation - 4000 grit Abralon on Haus machine for about 20 minutes (there is no polish on this ball)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
A few of the last Brunswick balls I tested tended to give me a real bad over/under ball reaction. In the past I have used traditional recommended layouts for these balls. Lately I have been doing a lot of our ball tests using this layout. It tends to help smooth out the ball motion while still allowing for plenty of hook down lane.

All we have heard about the MaxXX Zone is that it hooks. Judging by the way the cover stock looked out of the box I would have agreed without even seeing the ball go down the lane. We immediately thought it would be best to smooth out the 600 grit wet sand finish with some 4000 grit Abralon. After about 20 minutes in the Haus resurfacing machine with 4000 grit Abralon we found the ball to appear shiny as if we polished it. As I stated above there is no polish on this ball. The cover just smoothed out so much that it appears shiny. This was very common a few years ago for ball companies to use really high grit abrasives from the factory and it gave the ball a polished look with the texture of a matte or dull ball.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
We only had time to do a little testing with this ball. We will do more in the next few days and update if need be. From what I saw right away I like the ball motion. It definitely was smooth through off my hand, I attribute this to the cover preparation. Down lane the ball made a very sharp move off the friction and hit extremely hard.

In the next few days I will test this ball more and maybe play with the cover to get it closer to box finish and see what that does.

Being a big fan of the Brunswick Smash Zone I was very excited to get my hands on this ball. Brunswick's MaxXX Zone core uses the same inner core shape as the Smash Zone. However, the weight distribution between the inner core and outer core has been adjusted to raise the overall RG. I Drilled mine 5" from my pap @ 45* without an extra hole and a finish of 4000 abralon and no polish. The first thing I noticed was how strong it picked up in the mid-lanes with out losing its back end punch. For me this ball is about 5 boards stronger than my Smash Zone. It gave me more area when the lanes were fresh, but as the lanes broke down I had chased the shot in and could still get the ball to recover and give strong continuous motion through the pin deck. The MaxXX Zone is a very strong yet versatile ball. When you need that little extra on tight lane conditions you should give strong consideration to this ball.

got this ball as a birthday gift wife let me order it but then made me wait 2 weeks to drill and use it . let me say it was worth the wait . i am a stroker and shoot on lanes with med to heavy oil, my usual shot was 3 and 1 on my older black widow but after my house changed the oil pattern it wouldn't come back till late in the second game and even then was iffy. the Maxx i am shooting pretty much the same shot and boy does it come back can't say i have had any problems when it dry's up just adjust a board or two left and put 10 in the pit i carry a 207 average and only bowl in one league sub occasionally but have shot several 260 games with this ball and feel it will be the one to get my 300 with . can't seem to get all 12 in the same game but have shot 14-16 strikes in a row several times . this ball is great and doesn't seem to get all oiled up like my old widow did. would i recommend this ball. ... well only to friends who want to step up there game and not spend all there off time with ball maintenance

This ball is good for what it is, and that is a very soft shell wrapped around a good core. As with all soft heavy hooking balls it doesn't hit real hard but hard hitting is not everything. This ball must be played straight down and in. Any left to right and it WILL NOT turn the corner. I am a high speed 220+ ave bowler who is honest about the equipment I buy. I love Brunswick and think this ball has its place in the bag. I gave this ball a 4 because it will hook in heavy oil and is consistent. What else can you really ask?

I'm a 170-175 average bowler, I bowl in two leagues (one sanctioned, one fun league) I don't practice really (too expensive). I'd have to say i'm a tweener (Not quite Cranker, not quite a stroker). My old shot was throwing straight on at the 10 board and letting it hook at the end.

I recently changed my shot now to where I stand at the 30 board and throw at the 15-20 board.

I bought this ball because I wasn't getting the results I wanted out of my equipment.

All I can say is this ball is phenomenal! My first time throwing it I threw a 620, the 2nd time I threw it, I rolled a 651!

To me, this ball is forgiving because if I throw it out to far to the right it usually bites back, sometime to hard but it my delivery not the ball. If I throw it too far to the left it usually holds and goes brooklyn.

Previously, I had bad issues with leaving splits. Not anymore! This is the best ball I have ever bought and I highly recommend it!

OMG this ball is an awesome ball. I used to throw a toxic raw hammer that hooked when i got it but like every other ball started to get old and not hook at all really. Once i got this ball drilled it was like having a tornado hit the pins and just blasting them to smitherines. Im 14 and carry a 185 average and bowl in a youth league on saturday mornings. My high game with this ball so far since i've only bowled with it for 2 days is a 258. And im improving. But i would highly recomend this ball for anyone who is having trouble getting their bowling ball to finish through the pocket and knock all ten pins down. Well this is the ball for you if you dont want to see that 10 pin standing, and i think everybody knows what i'm talking about!

This ball is amazing! The Maxx Zone ball was exactly what I was looking for. First matte finish ball I have purchased and wasn't disappointed. If you need a heavy oil ball, this is the one to buy. Love it!!

I took the surface up to 1000 with some polish. This gave me excellent length for such an aggressive ball. I threw it at 1000 dull and it was too much ball after 5 frames. I have this with a short pin with the pin below the fingers with the cg out 45 degrees. I was afraid this drilling would cause the ball to roll out. Not the case here, it had continuous motion throughout. This ball hits extremely hard, hooks extremely hard, and it just a great ball. Thank goodness, that Twisted Fury Solid just doesn't compare.
