Brunswick C (System)2.5 Bowling Balls

C (System)2.5 Specs
After more than 18 months of research, development, and extensive lab and field tests, Brunswick is proud to introduce the new C(System) 2.5 bowling ball, developed in close collaboration with Hall of Fame bowler Carmen Salvino. In addition to being a legendary bowler, Salvino conducts scientific research and holds multiple patents related to bowling ball design.
This new line of performance bowling balls features Chemical Friction Technology (CFT). As Salvino explains, The coverstock was chemically designed to have shaped molecular structures that produce a high coefficient of friction. Because of the shape of the molecule, when the ball goes into rolling friction, which occurs at the back part of the lane, slippage is eliminated and the ball will give you maximum entry and carry. This is the advantage of chemical friction versus mechanical friction.
The chemistry is versatile enough that even if sanded or polished, it will not change the shape of the molecule. That is the uniqueness of this chemistry.
The Chemical Friction Technology in the new C(System) 2.5 is a difference you can feel!
Coverstock
CFT 2.5 - The chemistry was uniquely designed to have shaped molecular structures that produce a high coefficient of friction. Because of the shape of the molecule, when the ball goes into rolling friction, which occurs at the back part of the lane, slippage is eliminated and the ball will give you maximum entry and carry.
Core: I-Block
The new I-Block core was engineered specifically for the CFT 2.5 coverstock to create maximum forgiveness, strong entry angels along with versatile drilling layouts.
Reaction Characteristics
Ball Motion - With its 4000-grit micro pad finish, the C (System) 2.5 will provide good length with a strong continuous backend reaction that matches up on medium to oily lane conditions for a wide range of bowling styles.
Reaction Setup
The C (System) 2.5 can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
The C System 2.5 is a entirely new core and coverstock from Brunswick. The thought behind this technology is to eliminate slippage on the back part of the lane. This would in turn cause the C System 2.5 to be very aggressive as it makes it final move towards the pins.
After some discussion with R&D guys at Brunswick we decided to drill two of these balls. One with the pin under the fingers and one with the pin above. Dual angles layouts were used on both balls. We wanted to do this so that we could show you the differences in the two more common layouts used.
Since everything is new on this ball we did not have any thoughts on what we were looking for on these layouts. We knew that we wanted to see if the ball motion was stronger then some of the past Brunswick balls and see the differences in a pin down layout compared to a pin up layout. We did decide to leave the surface alone on both balls so that there was more a true test from ball to ball.
If you watch our ball reaction video, the pin down layout is the first ball you will see followed by the pin up layout.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Pin Down Layout:
WOW! I don't know if it was the core or cover or the combination of both but the C System gives Brunswick a look they never really had before.
Even with the stronger pin down layout I got plenty of clearance through the heads and mid section of the lane. I saw very little to no signs of the ball burning any energy as it transitioned into the back portion of the lane. Every once in a while if I started it out a little early it would obviously read the friction quicker but not enough to slow it down on the backend.
As I squared up a little and went straighter through the fronts I saw the ball read a little earlier but it still roller very strong and recovered nicely on the backend. The main part of the ball description that stood out to me was Brunswick's goal of eliminating any "slippage" on the backend. This I think was accomplished, the ball rolled as strong as anything as it got closer to the pins and I was never concerned with the ball "rolling out" or "burning up" as it made its move.
Pin Up Layout:
After I sat down and thought a little about my ball test to myself, I think I would have like to see a larger gap in the two layouts. I saw enough to say they did not roll identical but they were fairly close for me. This layout as expected did push a little further down the lane then the pin down layout with a sharper motion on the back. I was actually able to play the same part of the lane as the first ball but because of the angles saw a few more hanging ten pins. As I moved right I got a awesome reaction with this pin up layout.
I think in my perfect world I would have polished this pin up ball and played much straighter down the lane. Overall I think either layout rolled well and offered a ball motion that I have not seen so far this season.
For Brunswick I think the C System is a great ball for them and definitely fills some holes that they may have had in their performance ball line up. My prediction is that if some of the Brunswick staffers make some shows this season on the PBA then you will see a few of these going down the lane.

I drilled mine 45 X 5 X 65 with no hole using 4000 micro pad and factory finish polish. I was expecting the ball to be weaker than my Siege that has the same layout, but what I got was a big surprise. The C System handled the oil just as well as my Siege but gave me more angle in the back. It seemed to come back from anywhere on our THS. I have played around with this ball for a few weeks now and it seems that no matter how deep on the lane I go this ball recovers strong and drive through the pocket over powering the pins from any angle.

I have drilled two C Systems. Both with the pin 3 3/4 from my PAP. One with the pin under with the mass bias 1/2 inch across my vertical axis line. The other with the pin up and mass bias stacked. I have found a very readable difference between the two drillings. I use the pin under on fresh sport conditions when I want more mid lane roll and less backend when the lane automatically gives me the back end. When the oil carries down I switch to the pin up. This allows me to move left and swing the ball more and hook it around the carry down. The C system has allowed me to open up the lane more when needed than previous Brunswick modles. The C System is a good strong bench mark ball.
I have also found that this ball on wet dry house shots does not over react. Very readable ball reaction to oil and dry without the over reaction.

Observations:
Easy through the fronts with good mid lane read. Handles carry down like nothing Ive ever used, nearly eliminating that transition. You dont get the over/under you get from many other balls when this ball goes from wet to dry. What you do get is a very forgiving, smooth transition, that carries from almost any angle.
Conclusions:
I didnt practice with this ball at all before stepping into league and the second game I bowled a 300. Forgiving, smooth and powerful are the words I use to describe this reaction. This is a major step in technology and I recommend you take a look at what Brunswick is doing!
As with any ball, proper matching of the bowler, ball, layout and coverstock are crucial to success. Make sure you find a well educated pro shop technician to drill your next ball and your scores will increase immediately.
