What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
It has been a long time since I threw a urethane cover ball. When say a long time I mean like 10+ years.

I figured I would use one of my favorite layouts so I would have some base line to go off of and see what happened. I was hoping that it would be an aggressive enough layout to get a decent read on a fresh pattern. I know urethane tends to roll really strong and kind of set at the break point as opposed to reactive stuff the continues to flip through the pins.

My logic was this layout would start the ball up nice and strong and give me a little more continuation down lane before it set up at the break point.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
I have to say that I am impressed with my knowledge of urethane. :-) This ball did exactly what I thought it would. The first few shots I threw with it was a reality check that this was not reactive and I had to jump right. After I got in the right part of the lane the ball rolled really good. I can see how some peoples game developed from throwing urethane because you cant really do what you would normally do with reactive balls with your hand. Once I started getting right up the back of the ball of adjusted my ball speed I loved the ball motion.

Immediately I started thinking of conditions this would work great on and different layouts I could use on this ball. Since the ball does not over react or over read friction you can get pretty creative. I then started to realize why you saw so many Storm Naturals on tour last season. Pros must love having a good urethane ball they use during those brutal qualifying rounds.

All in all I think the addition of a urethane ball to your bag is a smart choice and the Grenade is the one to go with.

After 5 years of a continual decline in average (223 down to 198), I knew it was time for a drastic change. The aggressiveness of the equipment nowadays was too much for my old style down-n-in game so I went back to basics with some new equipment (i.e. urethane). Wow, did my game change in a hurry. The Grenade gave me the best reaction for what I was looking for. Average is on the rise and 2 tournament placings in the last 3 weeks (loved watching the crankers fade away as the conditions became funky) added some much needed gratification. It is indeed a pleasure to bowl again, and the Grenade has become my answer.

Used the recommended drilling pattern, with 5" pin f/PAP. Gave me some swing area to the right while holding well on those dreaded pull shots. Carries the 4 where before the shot would have been on the nose. Have to say I love it. May buy another trying a different drilling pattern.

If you need something for a Typical House Shot, this is a good ball for that. The more you sand this ball down, the more it will do. if you're a two hand bowler and need a straighter ball, this will pack a punch! It hits a bit softer than a reactive ball though. If the lanes have heavy oil, this ball won't do the job well, unless you like playing straight down the boards and want to leave corner pins. Other than that, probably the best urathane ball on the market.

This ball is drilled with a 5" Pin from my PAP. The flare potential on this ball is medium but it has a late mid-lane read with a heck of a backend move. The mass bias is in a very strong and it has a weight hole on the vertical axis line. This layout gave me a good amount of length with a very angular reaction in the back. It is a clean, smooth, and very controllable reaction that allows my ball to hit like a truck. This ball works great on medium to short oil patterns and is definitely a great ball to throw in your bag.

I am on the Wright State Bowling and this year I bought the Grenade for dry oil patterns. I got it drilled to go long and smooth. I have not got to use this ball much yet but the couple times I have thrown it, I liked how smooth it was. Its a good ball for me to use when my pluto hooks too much.

Have reviewed several balls on here and I have liked most of them, but not this one. The carry with this ball has been terrible ! I was thinking it may have just been one certain house I was in but nope for me, I have tried three different houses and it just hits like a pillow. It does have the smooth arc, and doesnt snap off like a reactive would, but I just cant get it to carry. I had high hopes for this ball, but for me it is just horrible. Definitely wouldnt buy again. Very dissapointed and feel like money was wasted on this ball.

Best go to ball in my arsenal. i love this ball. Have a tradional drilling of 3 inch from PAP with CJ Located in middle of the ball. I had it drilled with a 3 inch pin.

Ball is great when the conditions warrant it. I usually use this as a go to spare ball for 10 pins, and the transition to the 3rd game when backends are burnt up. This ball holds the line well when Reactive over moves on the backends.

Grenade – (with the pin up between fingers) Specs 5x4 3” buffer 60x5x40 (dual angle)
This ball is very weak and has a really good mid lane read. It does not overreact on wet/dry conditions but it is oil sensitive. This ball works best on dryer lanes and is very smooth and predictable when lanes are broken down and all your other bowling balls are hooking way too much. This ball works well on wood or synthetic lanes and sport patterns. It will allow you to work closer to the pocket without over hooking it to the head pin.

Grenade – (with the pin on the axis) Specs 3x5 2” buffer 110x3x40 (dual angle)
With these specs the ball has a little more mid lane roll and a little less back end. It works even better on dryer lanes and has more of an arc shape reaction. I used this layout at the USBC Nationals in Reno and it kept me out of trouble on tougher lane conditions. I would recommend this ball for all high rev. players looking for something that is straighter and smoother than anything they have ever thrown.
