Get in close and bash the pins with the new Melee by Brunswick!

Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 4 1/2"
Dual Angle Layout - 55* x 4 1/2" x 35*
Balance Hole - on PAP

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (500 Siaair Micro Pad, Royal Compound, Royal Shine)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Going into this ball test I had only heard a few things about the Melee. I was told that it would be comparable to the Versa-Max as far as length and recovery. I went with a pretty simple layout based on this and what I knew about that ball.

Depending on how clean this ball is up front I planned on seeing a good amount of revving in the mids with a continuous strong motion off the point down lane.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
First of all, Brunswick knocked this color out of the park. The shiny red color looks amazing going down the lane. If it wasn't for a hole on my PAP you would not ahve seen this ball rolling at all. I love that look and think that many people do. The ball almost looks like it is floating going down the lane.

As for comparing it to the Versa-Max, I guess that would be close for me but a Versa-Max on steroids. From what I remember of that ball this one was close in the fronts. It was smooth and clean off my hand but as soon as the ball started to transition, it went to work.

I was able to create a ton of area with the Melee and really open up the back part of the lane. It was much stronger then I remember the Versa-Max downlane. As the ball got to the breakpoint, there was no stopping it. I was able to create some pretty sick angles with this ball and never saw a loss of power at the pins.

I think compared to Brunswick's other recent releases, this ball will fit in well. It will be a great benchmark ball for most bowlers and will easily become one of your favorites.

Brunswick Melee is the new ball that will skid and make a turn in the backend.

Melee has a greater entry angle and very smooth in the front.Savvy Solid reactive is formulated to read the pattern and give you the move in the backend so that it will kick out that 10 pin.

COMMENTS
Likes: Very close in reaction to the C*System Versa-Max only better
Dislikes: Non
Ball # 1 is pin down with 2000 surface. This is my go to first ball out of the bag on medium oil condition or a THS. The reaction is very similar to the C*System Versa-Max in that is doesn't over-react to friction. This ball has a smooth overall reaction but still has a good recovery when reaction friction. It clears the front of the lane, reads the midlane slowly and has a strong arcing motion when reaching the friction.
Ball # 2 is pin up with box surface. This is my go to ball when the lanes get over/under or when everything else is hooking too much. I can keep making smaller moves left with this ball because it doesn't over hook when reaching friction. It has a very similar reaction to the C*System Versa-Max and just plain works when the lanes get hooking.

A little about me, I am slightly rev dominant, 12 degrees of tilt and 35 degrees of axis rotation. PAP is 4 over and 3/4 up.

The Melee is to replace the Versa Max. The VM was very special for me. I absolutely loved this ball. I was super excited to drill these and see what happened.

First one is drilled RICO. I use this ball a lot on the fresh when there is some hook. It really controls the back part of the lane for me. The shape of this ball is unmatched in my eyes. It is really special. I will also use it after my Mastermind if I feel that opening up my angles will not strike a lot.

Second one is drilled 70x4.5x40. I use this ball once the lanes begin to break down or I need the ball to really get down the lane without going sideways. This will provides me with that length and a smooth motion controllable motion off the spot.

The Melee when compared to the Versa Max is very similar. The shape is almost identical but is a little longer, a little more angular and a little stronger. I will be drilling more of these to replace Versa's that I really like. In the past with the Versa Max, I could only go so far left before the ball wouldn't go through the pins properly. With the Melee, I have not have this happen. Since it is a little more angular, it does save more energy for downlane, thus creating more entry angle down lane.

If you liked/loved the Versa Max, you must get a Melee. If you missed out on the Versa Max, don't miss out on the Melee this time.

The Melee is going to be the ball you will get the most use out of. As a tournament player, I am looking for control, predictability, and versatility. This ball gives me all 3, it will work on everything. The ball motion I got out of the box was too clean and too long, I knocked the polish off with 500 and 1000 pads and so far this ball has given me a look on everything I've bowled on. The solid cover stock is extremely clean so do not hesitate to scuff it up. For those of you who liked the Versa Max, you will love this ball. This is the perfect benchmark ball.

Likes: Strong move off of friction, easy length, versatility, and super pin carry

The Melee is the updated answer to the very successful Versamax. If you owned the Versamax you already know how usable and unique the reaction was. If you didn't own one you missed out and here is the chance to get in on the fun! The Melee is about 2 and 1 stronger than the Versamax with more length and a stronger move off at the breakpoint. The Melee also has more continuation at the breakpoint and because of the extra energy retention really carries the corner pins well. So far I am at 1523 for 6 games of league this week with just the Melee. The ball is simply spectacular and I have no plans of putting it down unless the conditions drastically change! I am not sure I have ever had a better match up on our house shot! I can also see the Melee getting a bunch of use on a variety of moderate sport shot conditions due to its great versatility. Just make your adjustments as the lanes breakdown and it works from almost any angle. I can see this ball with the proper surface and layout working for almost any style. If you can change speeds or rotation and you bowl on moderate conditions all you need is a Melee!
