The DV8 Marauder is out for blood and to raid the lanes of all its high scores!
Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 4 3/4"
Dual Angle Layout - 45* x 4 3/4" x 40*
Balance Hole - n/a
Surface Preparation - Out of Box (500 Siaair Micro Pad; Rough Buff; High Gloss)
What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Based on what we were being told by DV8 we knew this was meant to be a benchmark ball in their product line. I kept the layout identical to the Hell Raiser Terror we were testing on the night. I was expecting to see a very solid down and in ball motion from the Marauder with similar characteristics of the Terror but less overall.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
I would agree that the Marauder offers a benchmark type of ball motion. This ball is easy to read with its Red Pearl/Yellow Solid cover and would be easy to adjust up or down from it.
Compared to the Hell Raiser Terror this ball rolled similar but obviously weaker in overall hook. The Maruader cleared the heads smooth never reading friction too early. It transitioned very nicely into a strong mid-lane roll with a sharp backend. I was able to move a little further right and open up the lane a bit while increasing carry at the same time.
Compared to the balls previously released at this price point, The Reckless and Too Reckless, I think you will just enough of a difference in ball motion to be very happy with the new addition to DV8's line up.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
Hybrids coverstocks are my favorite. I love the length paired with a controllable backend reaction. That's exactly what I was hoping to see with the Marauder.
What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Exactly what I expected! The Marauder is the new benchmark ball in DV8's lineup, in my opinion. Good length with a controllable backend reaction. This is the ball you want to pull out of your bag first on league night and the one you want to go to when you want to stay in the pocket on tough conditions. I also was really impressed with the carry on this ball! I had a hard time NOT striking with the Marauder!
If you're building an arsenal for the upcoming league season, start with the Marauder and build from there. You may not need much else in your bag though!

Purpose:
Along with everyone I’ve talked to, I loved the Too Reckless with this same exact layout and thought it was a great medium oil ball. I wanted to drill the Marauder with this same layout to give me just a little more length and overall hook.
Observations:
To get to the point, this is my favorite DV8 ball to date. Those that liked the Too Reckless with LOVE the marauder. I saw a similar midlane read with both balls, with the Marauder skidding just a bit further downlane but having about 2 boards more hook in the backend. The Marauder for me was a solid 2-1 move inside of the Too Reckless for me, with the difference being made up completely on the backend. Hybrid balls are a godsend to me because I really like the versatility of having practically both a solid ball and a pearl ball all in one. Due to this hybrid cover, I can square up to the lane and play straighter and/or closer to the friction and I can use it to really hit on it and loop the lane like a pearl. Hard to get the best of both of those worlds into one ball but DV8 did it. My understanding is that someone asked DV8 to make something equivalent to the Brunswick’s Versa-max and the replay was “We’re going to make a ball better than the Versa-max.†While you’ll have to pry my Versas from my cold dead hands, the Marauder does indeed live up to the hype. The only reason that I’d still give my personal nod to the Versa is because it is a solid symmetric, and nothing puts money in my wallet like a solid symmetric. That being said, in a heads up comparison, I’d say the Marauder is 3 boards stronger overall than the Versa; one board stronger in the midlane and a two stronger on the backend. I’m currently thinking about sanding the surface to 4000 just to enhance that midlane roll that I’m seeing. On Scorpion, I saw a smoother read throughout the midlane, exactly what you need on tougher patterns, from the start when I could square up more and play outside around 5. This ball surprisingly gave me the best look on this pattern from the outside than any other ball I brought with me. To me, that really shows how versatile this ball is even with the polished box finish. As the pattern broke down, moving inside was never a problem. This ball kept slapping out 10s all the way in to 5th arrow. Like every other DV8 ball I’ve thrown, this ball keeps the pins really low to the pin deck which increases carry percentage. No other line in bowling offers a look through the pin deck like DV8.
Final thoughts:
The new Marauder is the new benchmark ball in the DV8 line. For me it picks up just the right amount in the midlane and then offers a strong move to the pocket off of the friction. It’s a great compliment to the Reckless, Too Reckless, and/or the Versa-Max so if you have one of those in your bag and love it, it’s hard to go wrong with the DV8 Marauder.
Thanks for reading. Good luck and good bowling!

Finish - OOB
Have used my new DV8 Marauder for 3 and 1/2 games in practice. This ball is not very forgiving and requires a lot of finesse to get it to the pocket. On a fresh house shot, it is very over/under and not at all forgiving. For me, this will be a very condition specific piece. I will carry it in my bag, but will only use it when the heads are gone and there is very little carry down. It is not at all what I expected based on other reviews. I expected a "benchmark" kind of ball that would be perfect for fresh house conditions. Instead, this appears to be a medium/dry to dry conditions ball, or a sport condition ball (Cheetah, perhaps.) I will continue to practice with it, and if needed knock some of the polish off and see if that makes it more consistent. As it is now, I am not sure how much it will get used.
My Storm Virtual Gravity Nano remains my go-to ball, drilled 4x4x2 and in OOB finish. The Nano is much more predictable and forgiving across multiple different conditions. Just for comparison, I bowled 1/2 game with the Marauder and couldn't find the pocket. Switched to the Nano and struck out the rest of the game.
That being said, I would have no problem purchasing another DV8 ball but next time would go with something stronger. Perhaps a Nightmare, Brutal Nightmare, or Hellraiser Terror.

I think this "benchmark" ball description by DV8 is no joke. The ball can do it all on every condition except heavy oil or fried. Very satisfied with my purchase, and hope to add more DV8's to my arsenal as needed in the future.

COMMENTS
Likes: The strong roll that reads the midlane and continues through the pins
Dislikes: None
This ball takes over the Reckless line and is another great ball by DV8. With the hybrid cover, it can read the lane without overhooking. This ball is great for medium oil conditions and is continuous through the pins. The Marauder works well on house or kegel patterns and allows me to keep moving left to chase the oil and open up the lane. It would work as a good bechmark ball and takes well to surface changes. Comparing the Marauder to the Reckless, it is stronger off the spot and is stronger overall. This ball will retain energy and recovers quickly when reaching the spot. I would recommend this ball for any league bowler and tournament bowler. #TonightWeBowl

I got a Hell Raiser Revenge before this, but the lanes near me only use medium volumes of oil so that ball only works on the freshest oil, which wears out quickly. On top of that I had to take it to 4000 grit to keep more energy stored for the backend.
With the Marauder, however, I can now get predictable motion down the entire length of the lane and a strong snap into the pocket. This ball is amazing and a great value for the performance : price.
For anyone looking for a great ball that will work on drier and medium conditions, this is the one to get.
