What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I went with a safe drilling on the new Mutant Cell so we could get a good read of the balls potential. This would most likely be the type of layout that most of our customers will end up with. With the combination of the new core and cover we thought this would show us the true potential of the ball and give us the best read for a solid review.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Another winner from Utah. The Mutant Cell did everything we thought it would do. Even with the stronger cover the ball held a great line through the heads and unleashed on the back part of the lane. We moved from right up the track area to inside 20 and saw an awesome reaction from all spots on the lane.

I think I was most impressed with how strong the Mutant Cell rolled and held in the middle part of the lane allowing it to react strong on the back and keep the pins really low. Overall the Mutane Cell ranks up there with the other Cells as my favorite high performace balls from Roto Grip.

What I was looking for in this layout: The 5" pin placement from my PAP generally gives me a predictable reaction, good length and strong backend performance. I drilled this similar to my Rogue Cell to get a comparison of what the Mutant could do. Roto Grip redesigned their popular Nucleus core to enable quicker revving down the lane while the Cytoplasmic XL solid reactive coverstock produces more friction than any previous Cell. I was expecting this layout to give me a stronger overall reaction all the way through the lane.

What I ended up with in this layout: After throwing a handful of shots, I was very impressed with the amount of reaction the Mutant Cell delivered on the lanes. With the Cytoplasmic XL Solid reactive coverstock, I knew I was going to receive a large amount of reaction through the entire shot. I was not expecting the amount of reaction it delivered at the breakpoint though. Combined with the new Nucleus II core, this ball didn't hesitate to rev up hard and make a left turn at the breakpoint. It is definitely more angular for me than I expected. Compared to my Rogue Cell, I would say that I get at least another 5-6 boards of reaction.

I tested the Mutant Cell on Kegel's Easy Street pattern which is 38'. With the amount of reaction and recovery room this ball had to offer, I was able to stand on the 40th board and swing the ball out to 7 at the breakpoint. I had no worries missing right. I can tell this ball is going to be one of my favorites just from the amount and speed of messengers I'm throwing!

If you're looking to throw the Mutant on medium oiled patterns or patterns with less head oil, I would recommend polishing the solid coverstock to assist energy conservation down the lane.

If you're looking for reaction on medium to heavier oil patterns, the Mutant Cell is your ball. The best part about Roto Grip's Cell line is that these balls are driller friendly. Whether you're a cranker, stroker, or left-handed (just kidding), the Cell line of balls simply works. Proven reaction time after time. Just be careful, the Mutant Cell has been known transform perfectly good bowling hands into wicked striking machines.

This layout puts the pin lower in my grip, below my ring finger.

What I was expecting from the Roto Grip Mutant Cell:

Knowing the Cell line has been very strong, I was expecting this bowling ball to have a lot of backend reaction.

What I ended up with:

The ball seems to pick up motion on the backend and drives through the pocket very well. It didn't roll up quite as early as I thought it would based on this layout. I still seemed to get down the lane before making the big backend move.

I think the Mutant Cell was great as is, however, I will probably add a little polish to the cover.

Be sure to watch our video of the Mutant Cell.

The guys from Roto Grip have been rolling out some amazing bowling balls over the last few years. Obviously, the most successful of them all has been the Cell Line. Well the newest addition to that line, the Mutant Cell, takes the best parts of the former Cells and makes them better! I drilled my Mutant with the pin 5 from my PAP and the CG 4 inches away. This put the pin under my middle finger and the CG in the lower right quadrant. I was expecting a ball that was really going to hook, but to get down the lane a little easier than the original Cell. I wasn't expecting something THIS good! This ball really clears the heads well for a solid and makes the hardest roll to the pocket I've ever seen. The carry was phenomenal and I was able to use the Mutant the entire night during league. I cannot wait to take this freak to Reno with me for Nationals, and I know I'll see a lot of them there! I expect this to be the biggest winner out there this year! Roto Grip - King of them All!!

I was able to watch a guy on Roto Grip Staff throw the Mutant Cell recently. I was impressed by how well the Mutant Cell cleared the head and still had a lot movement on the back-end with continuation thru the pins. The Mutant Cell will be a hot seller.

For my first Roto ball, I decided to go with a layout very similar to my Power Machine. I rolled it the 3rd game of league, and was immediately surprised and happy to see that I was able to play up to 7 boards right of where I usually have to play. I stood at 25, targeted 15, and kept my breakpoint around 3-4.

The Mutants Cell clears the heads with virtually no resistance and didn't get to grabby in the mids. When this ball nears the break point is when it begins to really shine. The 2.54 rg and my pin placement really accentuates the color scheme when it starts to rev up. When it finally turns, it does so without any hesitation at all. I had great entry angle and excellent pin action other than a stone 8, but it happens.

X 9/ 9- X out for 258 that game. I shot a couple of practice games after. With various hand positions, I had area from the 20th to the 40th board with the same results. With the right layout, you can use this ball on medium to the heaviest oil.

I got a small glimpse and understand what makes the Cell series so popular, What I don't understand is what took me so long to try it.

About the Bowler

I have drilled 2 Mutant Cells so far. First one I drilled is just a favorite layout of mine, 45 x 4 3/4 x 65 puts pin under my bridge, mass in a strong position with a hole down. Second one is 70 x 4 x 30, pin is above and to the right of ring finger drilled mass out with thumb, no hole. In comparison to the original Cell I think this ball is a little cleaner thru the front and is a little more continuous down lane. Basically a Cell on steroids. In comparison to the Rogue I find the biggest difference to be length, The Rogue for me was very early rolling, Mutant clears the front very easily. Mutant #1 is going to be a ball I use quite a bit on the shorter PBA patterns, it is very smooth and controllable, predictability is what I am looking for especially on these conditions. Mutant #2 is going to be for the longer patterns like Scorpion and Shark because it is more continuous and more angular.

If you are a fan of the Cell line I know you will be very pleased with this ball, it is alot of ball especially for the money. This ball hooks just as much if not more then any $220 bowling balls and its about $40 cheaper. This ball will be a great Christmas and is the most bang for your buck. Good luck and happy striking!

When laying this ball out, I was really looking for something that would handle carry down better than my other balls. The specs on this ball pretty much told me that the Mutant Cell was a very good pick for this so I basically went with one of my favorite layouts.

What a great surprise this ball is. The Cytoplasmic XL cover allowed this ball to get cleanly down lane especially for a solid. (I normally change my cover surface on most balls before I throw it, hence the 4000 surface). I knew the cover would not be a issue just with the success I have had with my Rogues and the cover is the same just without the pearl additive that makes the Rogue a hybrid. The new core that the Mutant uses it what I was most interested in. This is a fast revving core which really translates into a really heavy/continuous motion on the back part of the lane. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

While testing this ball in league (40 ft house pattern) I was able to stay in the same part of the lane for a much longer period of time than I normally can. To makes things even better as the lanes started to break down my ball reaction actually became better as I started to migrate left. My carry percentage was absolutely amazing, as the really heavy rolling motion kept the pins low. (actaully tripped about 4 4pins which is not typical for my higher rev game.) I never had to change balls the entire night and moved a total of 6 boards with my feet and 3 with my eyes. Normally I will move at least 10 to 12 with my feet.

If you are looking for something to add to your aresenal for medium to heavy patterns or if you are just a Roto fan you are going to want to pick one of these up. It is a completely diffferent ball motion than anything in the current line. The Mutant Cell is a very exciting release and is going to a favorite among many types of players.

I bought this ball because, I wanted a ball "pardon my french" that
had a little more ass. I got exactly what I was looking for. This ball is amazing. It hooks more then anything I've ever thrown before.
I wasn't going to use it in league this week after only getting it on
fri. and league is wed., but after throwing it today (fri.). I can't
not throw it in league. Bowlingball.com is such a great place to order things. They have great prices and whatever I order gets here
quickly. The free towel is great it soaks up oil and cleans your ball
very well. All in all great ball at a great price. Thank you bowlingball.com.

About the Bowler

I can't say enough about this the Roto Grip Mutant Cell because it is that great. I am a 186 to 193 bowler and my style of bowl is a tweener. I have been bowling 5 weeks with this ball in 2 leagues and have yet to average under a 600 series. The back end is great and the best thing about this ball is that it is consistent. The break point is the same every time so if I hit my mark it is a strike. I was looking for a ball that had great finish into the pocket and this ball delivers. I highly recommend the Roto Grip Mutant Cell to those of you looking for a consistent ball with great drive through the pocket.

Let me start out by saying WOW!!!! Great job by everyone at Roto Grip. I bowled with my Mutant Cell drilled with a 5X3 layout on a 39' house shot. I used the ball box finish and it cleared the fronts with ease, and had a real strong backend move. Bowled several games on the house shot and just kept moving left. Never had any problems with the ball reading too early or not finishing. I then took the ball and hit it with a 2000 abralon pad then used Storm Step 2 finish. Then back to the lanes. The ball was super clean through the fronts and more of a angular backend move. I used it several more games with the polished cover before it got to where I couldn't use it.
It needs some oil. I then took it back to box finish and bowled on Kegel's Route 66 pattern and the PBA Shark pattern. The ball was real good on both of these. This ball would be a great fit in anybody's bowling ball aresonal.

With this being Roto Grips last ball for the year, I can't wait to see what y'all have in store for us next year. Thanks for producing the best bowling balls in the Kingdom.

Thanks,

Ricky Woods

this ball is awesome!! If you liked the cell and rogue cell then you will most deffinately like the mutant. I had mine drilled with the pin about 1" above, and in between, my fingers. the cg is about 1.5-2" below my ring finger. the mass bias is about an inch under my thumb and of to the right a little. This is one of my favorite drilling and is meant to go relatively long and make a strong move on the back. that is exactly what it did. Just today I shot 676 with it and then shot an extra game which was a 278. I am a 199-201 ave. bowler normally. This ball seems to strike from any angle. once I burned myself an area, I could throw there from anywhere and it would come roaring back and completely annhialate the pins. It gives you a confidence in your equipment when you know your ball will work the same every time. About 8 out of ten shots all ten were in the pit which is awesome. The roto-grip cell line seems to mix the pins very well even when you dont slam them all to the back. Good luck with this ball!BUY ONE!!!!!!!!!

About the Bowler

Layout- 5” X 3.5” with a medium width/depth hole just outside the PAP.

I expected this ball to be strong, but holy crap is it strong. I’ve hardly found a house shot where I can even throw it (then again, I throw the ball like 15 mph with a 350 RPM rev rate and create minimal tilt/side roll, so I don’t use strong balls on house shots often). That being said, this ball was an absolute BEAST on Shark. I was able to move about 6 and 3 left of my Rogue on Shark pattern, keep my speed higher and still had more recovery on a miss right than I have ever had on Shark. For your rotationally impaired, this ball looks like a complete godsend. It has also been my most pre-sold ball in the history of my shop. It also looks cooler than it’s given credit for, as long as you are okay with a little yellow in the ball. I could also see this ball being a dominant force at Nationals next year.

This is a must have. My Monday night scratch league is the best league in Grand Rapids, with the biggest payout. We bowl on a modified house shot, which boarders on a sport condition. 16 teams, 80 bowlers, the best of the best, staff members from Track, Columbia, Brunswick R&D guys, and collegiate team members. At last count 26 bowlers over 200 for average, no team averaging over 1050, and a high individual series of 749. Believe me, these are the best of the best in GR, bowling on a very tough condition.

With this drill pattern, it opened up the lane for me. I shot 703 and 745 the first 2 sets which was in the top 3 for those weeks. Guys we bowled against were amazed at how hard it hit and how forgiving it is. Shots I thought were weak 10’s, had no problem snapping the 10 out. Even with the 2000 abralon finish, I have no problem getting the ball down the lane with a very hard but predictable arc on the back part of the lane. Get your hand on one of these, you will be VERY impressed.

I just got this ball on Friday October 23rd and only bowled 3 games with it that day, my high game was 206, i was really impressed with how well the ball recovered at the end of the lane. The next day, Saturday, i bowled 5 games on a heavier house shot and i averaged 214, with high games of 247, 226 and 212, i literally couldn't miss a strike even if i tried. I love this ball and I'm very glad that i was lucky enough to get it over 3 weeks early.

I purchased this ball soon after it was released. I was impressed then and still am. I can use this monster on fresh oil, then with a little adjustment, I can continue using it as the lanes break down. My very first series out of the box was a 700 even. I've read other reviews about the deminished reaction the more it is used. I have not experienced this problem at all. The Mutant Cell glides and snaps now, just as it did when it was first purchased. I definitely recommend this ball.

For the first 3 months I used it I got just what I was looking for, but I began to notice the preformace starting to fall off. I had been cleaning the ball every time I bowled.I had to have the oil removed and it worked great for about 9 games. This ball requires a lot of maintanence but I love to bowl with it when it is preforming well

About the Bowler

With this ball I was looking to get something that would roll well on heavy oil. Since I throw the ball exceedingly hard a majority of the time it was drilled with the pin under my ring finger to give it an earlier roll.

The ball definately exceeded my expectations simply because it reads the lanes so well. I keep it continuously at between 500 and 1000 Abralon. Whether im bowling on shark or something like Viper it is very versatile. The sand helps me get movement on heavy oil. Also scuffing the ball will allow this ball to push throw the heads on a pattern with less oil.

I would recommend this ball to anyone who is looking for a versatile ball. Roto Grip did an outstanding job with the Mutant Cell!

Although I haven't thrown the Mutant Cell much yet, it has met my expectations so far. The Mutant Cell is a ball that has a lot of back end and made for longer patterns. The way my ball is drilled it will go a bit longer than the Rogue Cell but it has a more powerful hook on the end allowing it to have more power when hitting the pocket. This drilling has allowed me to use this ball on patterns when my Rogue Cell just isn't powering through the pocket

Okay so I've had this ball for a while now, meaning several months. Frankly, it's taken me a while to learn how to role it. Things started to click for me about 3 months ago. I had lots of avaialable time on my hand to practice and put some games on the ball. I would not role it in league until I had games on the ball in practice. I began consistently hitting 200s with the ball in late October. My normal starting position on a THS is left foot on 23rd board, rolling the ball up 12 - 13, out to 7. That's the shot I use for my NVD and Virtual Energy during league play and early on in practice. The Mutant Cell is 3-4 boards left with my feet, so standing at 26-27, rolling the ball over 15 and out to 7 or 8 at the breakpoint. What I really love about the Mutant Cell is it's ability to get down the lane. This ball clears the heads as well as the Virtual Energy. It stores up a ton of energy and you can literally see the ball revving as it travels down the lane. It gets to the breakpoint and just steamrolls into the pocket. With light shots, pins are scattered across the deck, no sloppy 7 pins left standing on a swisher strike, five chops out anything its path. And solid hits are pure, loud and leave very little room for doubt. Miss right on the THS and the dryer boards to the right give the traction to recover with rare overhook reactions. Miss left and midlane oil holds the line to the pocket without leaving the shot flat. Very few flat 10s, some solid 10s perhaps on left misses.

The ball to me is phenomenal. I really started hitting my stride with it last week. Shot 229 and then 278 in a couple practice games. The 278 was a solid 10 pin in the 9th and solid 10 pin in the 12th. And then last night, 11-28, during league bowling, came out of the gate with the first four and got in gear to try to carry the game thru to the finish. Eight frames later, I had my first 300 (perfect) game, every hit a solid pocket shot. My previous high scores were 279, 278 with the Virtual Energy and 276, 278 with balls I don't use anymore.

I still have not worked this ball fully into my league rotation. But I feel that it could easily add 10 pins to my league average with one extra strike per game.

I would encourage any tweener or down and in bowler looking to add another line to their game to get this ball.

About the Bowler

Just got the mutant cell a few days ago, i average around 180. All i can say about this ball is wow. I went from throwing my hammer jacked light, to throwing high flush every ball, moving left... simply amazing hooking power. Have had alot of solid 8 pins unfortunatly... But thats the way i throw it apparently.

The first night I rolled with this thing I averaged 205 through 14 games. The second time I rolled with this ball I could not even keep it on the lane. The lanes were simply to dry for this ball. This ball is a hooking beast. If the lanes were oilier I couldve done much better but due to my love of the ball I was to greedy to put this thing down. The third time I rolled with this ball I averaged 250 through seven games. The rest of the games were between 200 and 220. This ball is a beast and I love it.

About the Bowler

I am a stroker with a 215 league ave and a 17 mph ball speed. I needed a ball for heavy oil as I joined a PBA Sport league and none that I had would turn the corner, so I was limited to down and in shots. I got this ball and had it drilled for the most hook in heavy oil. I have only bowled 5 games with it, 2 practice games on THS and then in the PBA Sport league Shark pattern. I ended with a 672 pin fall and a high game of 254. During the practice I was surprised that even though there was not heavy oil, the ball was holding and hitting the pocket hard. A few ugly splits when I let the speed drop.

This ball stands up to its name. The first time I used it after getting it drilled I got a strike. I continued to practice and did very well. I would do better if I was a better bowler. But, it is the best ball ever. I have an average of 142. Last week I bowled a 167, 145, 195 with this ball. So my money was well spent. Thanks bowlingball.com.

I carry a 195 average in 3 different leagues.....
I am more of a tweener...
I had ball drilled to go long...
I recently bught this ball because my Brunswick C system 2.5 and my Brunswick Ebony are drilled for more of a smooth controlled hook. The Mutant cell I had drilled to go long and turn hard. I really like playing down the 5 board and then let it smash the pins.... This ball does exactly that, hits like a train into the pins. Sometimes I can only bowl 1 game at that line and it starts to snap to much and I have to change my line. Thrown a couple of high games with it, but I have to make myself throw the ball out or it hooks to much. NOT the balls issue, its mine. I really like the action and I love the way it hits, I get more carry and much more pin action with this ball. I would buy it again and I have only rolled about 6 games with it. Hope this helps somebody.

About the Bowler

Wow! Every year I say the same thing but wait to long to do anything about it. If you bowl in tourneys you have to be on the same level as everyone else and purchase new equipment. I've been about a 220 average bowler for several years but when I have new equipment I'm a 230 average bowler. Started this year once again at 230 but I've lost pins every week since Christmas and am down to 217. Leaving single pins like crazy. Purchased my Mutant and got it drilled 5 minutes before a tourney last weekend and got first and $2,500.00. Left ONE ten pin in nine games on a really tough condition.

About the Bowler

I just got to start off by saying WOW!
My house leage average is 175 and i have a high rev bowler with medium speed (16-17.5 MPH). My ball is drilled with the pin below the left finger and i did not change the coverstock at all. I had been using the Cell Pearl and this ball is about 10 boards stronger for me.

I had bought the Hammer Jigsaw becuase i got a good deal on it and it was a decent ball, but i really wanted the Mutant Cell. I sold my jigsaw after a couple of weeks and ordered this one since it the jigsaw didnt impress me and my cell pearl was a lot more consistant for me. The first night i was imtimidated to throw this ball so i didnt use it much in league since i had not practiced with it. The second night i figure what the heck so i used it all night and shot a 176, 186, then 245. The second game i figured out the shot and came back in the third game. I bowl twice a week in 2 leagues one has heavy oil and the other has medium oil. The ball is very consistant and i find myself only moving a total of 1-1.5 boards all night. Ive used the ball for 3 weeks now and i have shot 604, 593, 607, 598, 608, and 654 (my highest series). My high games have been 2-265s, 2-245s, and 2 235's. My average has come up in both leagues 4 pins in 3 weeks.

Overall this is a great ball for any type of bowler has more backend then any ball i have seen and vary rarely has deflection (which is probablly my fault). I have only been bowling a year and a half, but this is one ball i would recomment to anyone.

About the Bowler

I just bought this ball yesterday (2/23/10) and absolutely love it. I average between 195-200 in your typical house shot pattern, and just bowled last year on a sport shot. My rev rate is a lower rev rate, and my speed is between 15-16mph. Generally I play between the first and second arrows with my feet directly in the middle of the lane. I was looking for a ball that gave me more versatility, and had a strong finish at the pocket. This ball gave me that and so much more. I can now swing this ball over the third arrow and watch it pound the pocket!! This should be a ball that everyone has in their arsenal.

I have used both the Storm Virtual Energy and Gravity but this one tops them both. It hits the pocket harder than any other ball I've ever seen. If you miss your mark and don't get in the pocket, you still have the chance of getting a X with the explosive power. Wonder job Roto Grip!

I recently bought this ball from bowlingball.com and I love it. I picked this ball for it so called amazing hook potential. Well bowlingball.com was right on the hook potential. I bowl aba tournaments and I am constantly delt with heavy oil patterns and my other bowling balls just would not turn. I hook the ball big time and I have a lot of speed on the ball. When I bowled these tournaments I had to slow my speed way down and move all the way to the right. When I got this new ball I thru it at my house and it would barely hold on the lanes. When I went to my first aba tournament with this ball I went from a lower than my house average mid range 500 set to a mid range 600 set. I highly reccomend this ball to anyone who is having trouble with heavy oil, this ball will fix it.

Serial number: 10CMA05H021
Layout: 35 x 4 1/2 x 45
PAP: 3 5/8 right 1/16 up.
Surface: out of box condition
No weight hole.
This ball was really strong through the mid lane and all the way to the pocket, did not hook up early at any point. This ball has a strong continuous hook. This Mutant for me covers for boards than anything else out there. I used it on a heavier volume 41ft 50ml flow THS, and a 39ft 40ml flow THS. It got around the corner so well on both conditions at the breakpoint. Hopefully a pearl version is not too far away.. (HINT TO THE RG BIG BOYS)

First off I ordered my mutant cell on a tuesday afternoon and the ball was delivered the next day , which was great. I purchased the mutant cell to bowl at the usbc open championships in Reno. The day I had the ball drilled we were bowling on a fresh typical house shot and the ball was very strong. I also have a rouge cell ( also ordered from bb.com ) and the finish is 1200 polished and I am able to play down and in with some pretty high speed 18-20 mph. with the mutant cell which remains at factory finish 2000 it took me a while to adjust to throw solid pocket shots after every ball I would move 5 boards left, eventually ending up about 15 boards left of where I play the rouge cell. I also bowled on a college sport shot pattern and the ball was great, read the lane just as I thought it would and I started off very well with the front 5 strikes. The pattern seemed to dry up pretty fast so I found myself moving left once again. Even though I purchased the mutant for heavy oil depending on the layout it would still make a great house ball for me with some polish on it , the ball is very strong at the pocket and continues to drive thru not deflect , sometimes too strong. On the house shot I found that I would leave several 9 pins. all in all its a great ball and It is worth checking out.

I'm a left hander with not a lot of ball speed or revs that averages around 197. I've lacked a ball that really hooks when the lanes are flooded. This ball hooks a ton for me and rolls fantastic. It revs up early and just keeps going. My spare ball almost gets a whole night off when this ball is in my hand.

I was looking for a more aggressive ball when purchasing the mutant. My polished gamebreaker has a late reaction and I was struggling to get to the pocket on heavier oil conditions. More aggressive is exactly what I got from the mutant. As soon as the ball gets out of the oil it makes a b-line for the pocket and the pins explode. I still have some work to do finding the proper line, but have not rolled a game under my league average yet with this ball.

About the Bowler

I read a lot of reviews on here and most of them say the same things and may be difficult for your average bowler to understand. So with that being said I'll keep things simple.

Pros:
This ball is a BEAST! This cell line is just plain awesome and the new Mutant Cell surely doesn't fall short to its predecessors. You don't have to worry about this ball rolling out on you. This ball revs up fast, eats oil through the heads and has nasty back end. This ball WILL carry and looks cool to boot.

Cons:
I don't see any as of yet.

Like any ball, layout is key. Especially with bigger hooking balls. Choose the layout that works with your style and ball speed.

On wednesday I was able to throw my newest Mutant Cell. The one with pin above fingers MB an inch away from my thumb and cg about a half inch away from my center of grip. Leaving me with 1/2 side and 1/4 finger. It is a 3" pin.

I had bad timing issues for the first three and bowled horrible.
But then we had to make up for missing last week and my timing started to get better. I struck out for a 207 and also struck out from 7th frame on for a 201. Timing wasn't perfect yet but I was able to finish the night off with a 230+, missing 2 spares.
Those were the only 200's for the night. Timing is everything!

Overall I thought this is a great add on to my bag of Roto Grip goodies.
If you're going to Nationals this is going to be a good ball to take with and use while there for compitition.
HAPPY STRIKING!!!!!

I decided to add this Nomad Pearl to my Roto Grip arsenal:
Layout: 55x 3 1/4x 60. PAP: 3 5/8 right and 1/16 up. Factory shine left on the ball. No extra weight hole. Bret at Bowlers Supply drilled this one for me to add a longer then mid length to my arsenal. I already have a long pin drilling Nomad Pearl. I ball me works real well on wood lanes, or a short length house shot, 35ft. or less. Worked quite well when practicing on Cheetah this past week. Not as sharp as the back end recovery as my other Nomad Pearl.

Just got the ball drilled up and it didnt disappoint. I throw a very low hooking shot with at about 18 mph and my ball rarely hooks that much. Until I got ahold of this. This ball hooks more than anything I have ever throw and hits like a ton of bricks. I average 215 and the first nite of bowling I opened with a 217 and struggled with handling the hook. Then went 224 and 256 for a 697. Not a real high series but good for a first time ball. I cant wait to throw it more and more. Great buy and the ball does what it says it does, hook a lot and hits hard.

I recently drilled up another Mutant Cell.

I put the Pin above my fingers, cg about a 1/2 an inch to the right of my center of grip and the mass bias about an inch from my thumb(to the right). It has 3/8 finger weight and about a 1/2 side.

I really love this one. It gives me a little more length and more of a stronger roll to through the pocket.

Monday I bowled and shot 257, 278 and a 201. I didn't make a move in the last game or I would have shot a better last game. But not bad for throwing second arrow all night.

I bowl tonight! So I'll be back with an update.

But this ball wore down way to fast. After about 3 weeks with it, the ball barely moved and a had to play a down and in line with it. I cant keep resanding it every 2 weeks

i'm a third year junior at monmouth university and this is the second year roto grip sponsors us. this year i chose to have the mutant cell as part of the sponsorship and what a choice i have made. on any fresh condition, whether it be a typical house pattern or challenging pattern, the mutant cell is the only choice for me. even though this ball has surface out of the box to react earlier than most high performance balls, it still builds up enough energy to create an angular backend reaction to push through the pins. the mutant cell is a must for any bowler looking to take their game to the next level.

I received my Mutant Cell from Monmouth University’s Roto Grip sponsorship. The first time I threw this ball, I knew I made a great choice. I got my mutant drilled 5” from my PAP below my middle finger. I was looking for a ball that drives strong through the heads and stores up all its energy for the backends. This ball does that and more.

My mutant cell rolls smoothly through the front of the lane and makes a strong controlled move on the backened. In addition, the mutant has very strong pin carry from several different angles, so no matter where you are forced to stand, the mutant cell will cover the whole lane if u need it to. It’s a great addition to my line-up and compliments the other balls I throw.

This is the second bowling ball I have received from Monmouth University's sponsorship, and once again, Roto Grip has delivered. In order to compliment my Original Cell (see review), i got my Mutant drilled with Mo's famous double-thumb layout, Pin 4" from my PAP above the bridge with a balance hole through the RG placed 1 1/2" away from the thumb. The ball is meant to hook out of the building and that is exactly what it does. When I go to a college tournament and the lanes are flooded, I find myself playing through the fresh heads with this ball with ease as the ball reads the lanes and bites hard almost as if I were bowling on a typical house pattern (no joke). The reputation of aggression that the Cell line has holds true with its newest edition, the Mutant Cell.

i love this ball with a passion. i put the pin under my ring finger because im a higher rev player and love the backend this ball gives. i suggest a higher pin position than this if you have lower revs and will snap just as hard as the lower pin for high revers.

pros
-this ball goes long and has heavy backend hook snapping into the pocket
-with heavy lanes it hits just as hard beacuse of the sanded ball surface, but dont throw on dry lanes unless you plish it up and move left
-one of the most aggressive ball i hav in my arsenal and i highly recommend it over the virtual products at storm

cons
-not much to say with cons besides my widow has a little more aggressive surface and grabs later and hooks two to three boards more than the mutant. but this is only because my widow is drilled very strong and snappy on the back back end of the lane

About the Bowler

Got the Mutant Cell for Christmas and rolled it for the second time yesterday in my league. Went 299 the second game. This ball getd=s down the lane good with a powerful back end. Drilled MoRich style with dual angle layout and pin at the ring finger. I am a cranker so I put a coat of polish on for a little more length. Mutant Cell is a beast, props to Roto Grip.

OMG this ball is a BEAST! I have owned all the US released Cells; and this one completely blew me away. Right out of the box, I threw two practice games. I started on 20 and threw it to the gutter. It came back with ease. So I gradually moved my feet left until I was behind the gutter; and it still came back with authority. Might I add these were freshly oiled lanes; just oiled for league play. I was surprised how long the ball pushed before it made a hard snap into the pocket. I'm a small guy; about 5'3"; and i got alot of messengers. I throw the ball at average 16 MPH on my strike ball and 20 MPH when shooting straight at my tenpin. I rarely get messengers unless I'm throwing it really hard; and i wasn't. I thought my orignal Cell was strong but wow this ball blew me away. 5 Stars!! Get this ball... btw it looks crazy going down lane with the yellow flipping around.

About the Bowler

Just got this ball for Christmas. And I love it. Best ball I ever got in my life!!! I have an original Cell and I compared it and the Mutant Cell had a really agressive backend and it reads the lanes perfectly. I always needed a ball that moves through heavy oil and has no problem getting back to the pocket. I am a bowler with a rev rate of 425 and I am a freshman out of my high school bowling on varsity averaging 205.

If you are looking for a ball that hooks, this is the ball for you. If you have a higher rev rate you can play just about any part of the lane. The mutant cell reads the dry very well, before the ball goes to work on the back end.

I just gotten this ball yesterday. I don't know much about drilling etc. But I've gotten a 3.5-4 inch pin and got it drill pin over and a little to the right of ring finger. Told the pro shop guy that I wanted length and back-end, so this is how he drilled it.

Played a few games with it. Played on medium oil house shot. Stood all the way to the left (I'm a right handed) and threw the ball at the middle arrow all the way towards the right corner and gutter, and the ball just kept coming back to the pocket.

I was really amaze and impress with this ball. If you want a ball that will hook, has back-end, and is very strong. Don't look any further. This is the ball you want. I am very satisfy and happy and love this ball!!

Mutant Cell another great release from Roto Grip.Just hear to tell you all on how great this ball is on the lanes. The new mutant cell gives bowlers a little bit more edge on those longer and wetter lane conditions that bowlers have trouble with finding the right ball to use.The mutant cell gives the bowler a little bit more hook on the backend with this new core and coverstock still thow rolls early as well, but with balls being designed today were getting a litte bit more pop off the corner for longer patterns,as we say litte bit more area to miss.my self being a roto staffer its great all the new prouducts that roto comes out with is giving me a different look out that on the lanes everytime i switch to use another ball in that line up,but the mutant cell in by far one of the strongest balls that i have ever used and probably the strongest balls roto grip has ever made in there product line.my first mutant cell i drilled 5x3 pin below middle finger with the mass bias right on my pap, with a extra balance hole being placed as well.(box finish 2000 abaron) this ball with this layout gives me early roll but on those fresh pattern and alot of backend down lane like kick side ways backend.second mutant cell got in layed out a little different, this one is 6x4 with pin above middle finger but a inch to the left on most lable for a lefty and mass bias being in the strong position to my pap.and also left on 4000 frest abaron for about 2 hourse on haus machine(crand to 30 mins a shot on hause machine for about 4 times.what i was doing for this ball and layout is i wanted something i can use when like a house shot pattern or a broken down sport shot wanted a ball that would clean threw the front really well but i didnt want to use polis reason for that i just find sometimes polish makes the ball a little skidy to much some times and kind of makes the ball reaction a little over under. So by putting it on the 4000 abaron pad is really shined the cover up but made it very tacky surface.so with this ball i get very very clean ball reaction threw the burnt heads but down laned even with carry down this ball give me a very strong arcing sharp break point in the backend of the lane.So haveing to drill to mutants with complete different drilling and surfaces you can cover many lane condition with two mutant cells. So for those bowlers out there looking for a awsome highend ball in the bag for heavyer lane conditons drill a mutant cell and let the mutant take over for ya.

All I can say is WOW.....

I went with the pin at 12 o'clock, my brother told me I should try this layout out and I went with it, with the Mass Bias next to my thumb, I wanted a late reaction, but still be pretty strong, so that is why I went with this layout

My first few leagues with it, I sucked with it, hooked a bit to much, had to switch balls the third game bcs I was throwing so big of a hook, had to switch to my Break Point, but now I'm bowling better than ever, I average about a 190 currently and my low serious last week was a 668.

at first, it was way to much of a ball for me, but now I learned to control it, and I could even play straight up 1st arrow on the cheetah with my Mutant Cell.

Thanks Roto!

I have had this ball just before it was released nationally and I haven't put it down since. This has become my go to ball. The reason for 4 stars is because it is already losing it's reaction. With this ball be prepared to clean and maintain after each use. I was recently reading the weekly email from bowlingball.com and read that Roto Grip says to resurface the ball w/ 2000 after 20-30 games. For every 60-80 games use a 500 then go 2000. This sounds like Roto Grip is trying to stimulate the local pro shops, which I'm all for but give me a break. So after 60-80 games it's supposed to be resurfaced 2 times. For me, a resurface at my local Pro Shop is $30 plus dollars each time. I'm almost half way to a new ball. For the competitive bowler on a shoe string budget this might not be the ball for you. BTW I haven't found a shot the ball doesn't like, but every other review you read about how far everyone can move left. Well I'm having to funnel right the more and more I use it.

I threw this ball at a Demo day and afterwards bought it on the spot. I really liked the early read and very strong backend motion on this ball, and talk about carry... the pins explode when this ball hits. Wes Malott was at the demo day and I had about a 45 minute lesson from him with this ball and I dont know whether it was the ball or his advice but I couldnt miss with it. You will not be dissapointed with this ball.

After seeing what some other guys were doing with Mutant Cells I decided "what the heck?" and picked one up and drilled it with a slightly modified 5x4x3.

In retrospect I gotta say that the one I originally rolled at a matchmaker was simply drilled too strong for me because it just rolled out too early and I am a higher track, higher revs bowler. Rolling this one, I will now say that this ball is pretty tight and is definitely the most angular ball that I have ever thrown. It takes the corner really hard and picks up the heaviest roll I've seen in a ball yet, but it also lets you create lots of area when the shot opens up. It has a really unique look to it that you won't see anywhere else on the lanes at this point in time, makes really weird messengers, and has a funny crunch on flush pocket hits.

I haven't yet found a condition around here that will really let it shine yet though. First night with it, backends were way too dirty and she wouldn't finish unless I got it way out. And tonight, I could barely keep it on the lane. I rarely bowl in league play and am generally a practice bowler. No matter how far out right I got the ball, it always came back though.

If I can find a nice and wet house shot with little to moderate carrydown, I think this ball in my layout will be great. I'm also still getting the feel for this added length from a 5\" pin to pap. Length is not a problem at 5 inches as at shouldn't be with this ball, but this is the longest skidding ball that I have yet. I still might experiment and put a little polish on it, or maybe not.

I think this ball will be great for players with lower rev rates. If you are more of a power play, don't drill it too strong, you won't be happy with it.

Overall I think this ball is pretty tight, now.

The Mutant Cell is a great bowling ball. I have bowled with the original Cell, currently bowl with the Rogue Cell and just bowled my first three game set with the Mutant Cell. I feel by far the Mutant Cell performs much more consistently than the other Cells. More room for error and outstanding pin carry. I could miss my target arrow by as much as four boards right and still get the ball into the one three pocket and consistently get strikes. First three game set was 279, 214, 260 for a 753 series. Very excited to start using the Mutant Cell in tournaments. All of my bowling balls are light 14 pound high performnace balls and I have no problems carrying a 208 average with the lighter balls. The Brunsick Siege and the Mutant Cell are very close to each other from a performance perspective and it becomes a tough decision as to which one to use for league. Both balls perform well but the Mutant Cell is drilled a little stronger than the Siege but both balls are very controllable with consistent performance even as the lanes break down. Highly recommend both balls if you can handle bowling high scores.

Overall a much snappier version of the Cell… This is a ball I can throw deep into the pattern with a great recovery.

Pin carry is phenomenal. I noticed many messengers coming back across the deck whether there were pins still standing or not. The extra torque provided by the tweaked weight block creates the largest separation on my flare rings of all the Cell series.

On a THS I could keep moving in as far as I wanted and the Mutant keeps on coming back to the pocket.

On the PBA Shark pattern I found easy length but the bonus was the recovery and drive through the pins. I could comfortable work the pattern.

I can’t wait to throw this on the Scorpion pattern.

First one Box Surface no weight hole Pin at 12 o\\'clock to my finger holes 5.75 inches to my PAP. CG and MB in line with the MB next to my thumb. Great for outside line on fresh pattern and can easily move left. Even with the surface, this ball really maintains its backend move. Very sharp.

Second one, brought to polish then down again with a 4000 abralon surface. I have found that bring up to a polish and then back down is significantly different than going from 2000 just up to a 4000 surface. Putting the polish on first helps get the ball down the lane a little further. Pin is 4.125 inches away from PAP with the CG and MB in line. MB is 1 inch right of the thumb and 1/4 inch down with small weight hole 2.25 inches deep lower thumb quadrant 2 inches right of the thumb hole using a 23/32th bit. Surface is and drilling make this a great all around ball on most patterns. When this ball begins to read friction, LOOK OUT!!! revs up and makes a hard move to the left as longs as friction allows and does not quit. Probably one of the hardest hitting balls I have ever thrown. Actually left a 7 - 9 - 10 the first night I threw it. WOW!!!!

Third one was drilled to be smoother and still maintain a strong backend arc. High gloss surface allows the ball to snap a little more on the back and if you take the surface down it definately gets smoother but you need to find oil to throw it no matter what. Allows me to keep my feet further right and after a little bounce is created I can inch left and throw to the dryer boards. Pin is 2 and 7/8th inces from PAP with the CG 3/8 inches kicked left from the line with the MB. MB placement is 1.5 inches directly right of the thumb hole. Weight hole is 2.5 inches deep using a 7/8th bit directly on my PAP to help delay the reaction down lane and smooth it out.

The Mutant Cell has been a great addition to my arsenal. I am currently bowling in a PBA experience league and was able to throw my new Mutant on the shark pattern. I was happy to find that the ball had a great reaction and carry. I am a lower revs player so this ball definitely fits my game on the longer pattern. I also was able to throw it on a house shot without it overreacting or rolling out. This ball is a versatile piece of equipment that every bowler should have in their bag.

This ball is a must have in the bag for everybody. I have never seen a ball perform like this with the great roll and continuation through the pins it has. Normally this type of ball would not have a drive through the pins when you get close to the fourth arrow and play out to the fourth or fifth board but it does. Even when you just roll the ball and want to play straight with it, the continuation is still there. This ball is just amazing.

My layout on this ball is a dual angle 30x5x40 and the hole on the axis is ¾ with the pin 5 inches from axis. 3 inch pin buffer. MB 2.5 from axis 1 inch inside val. (high gloss finish)

About the Bowler

SPECS: 3-4” pin 3.25oz top

DRILLING: 5.25x3, 7/8” hole on VAL 2” below PAP.

SURFACE: box finish

After a long lay-off from bowling due to wrist surgery I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to compete in the heavier volumes of oil. At first I had mix results, due to the fact I wasn’t sharp at all. After some practice I had a much different opinion!

This ball for “me” is my favorite Cell to date, I have like all the other Cells and they have given me great reactions. The Mutant Cell fits my game so well and gives me looks I have yet to see from any other ball I have ever thrown. It is extremely hard to explain with out seeing it first hand. There is a fine line between hook and back-end they are not the same thing. The Mutant Cell for me does both, it hooks a ton and still has a lot of back-end stored at the break-point.

On most “fresh” house conditions the outsides are pretty dry and the middle of the lane has a puddle of oil on it. This is also the case in this review. After getting line up with this monster I was playing around 19 at the arrows and going out to 10 at my breakpoint. HERE IS THE KICKER……. I wanted to see what this thing could do, I started moving with my feet left only in 2 board increments still hitting 19 at the arrows and this thing never quit coming, Finally after about 6 boards I left a couple flat tens. I really believe this ball will fit a lot of styles, but bowlers with more hand that was not able to throw the previous Cells very often due the strength will be happy they can fit this in there arsenal!

I have yet to bowl on any of the 5 PBA patterns, as I do I will post my thoughts!

The Mutant Cell is the strongest of the line to date. This ball has about 3-5 more boards hook than the original cell. This ball has a great move in the mid lane and a continuous strong back end. I had mine drilled with the pin next to the fingers with the mass bias to the right of the thumb and a weight hole.

This is a great ball for medium to heavy oil.

This is the first ball I’ve had that people are coming to my lane and taking it to use during league play.

Everyone on my team remarks about how much more I am able to hook the ball.

This ball plays best for me if there is some oil in the heads to get through the front of the lane.

I drilled 2 Mutant Cells and so far have been very please with the reactions. The first one is a 4 1/2\\\" pin from pap below my middle finger (pap is 4 over and 1/8 up)the rg is 3\\\" from my pap with a small low hole. I left this ball with the out of box finish and it is very strong...reads the midlane very well and has great continuation down lane. I\\'ve never had a pin under ball finish so well. I used it on a 44\\' sport pattern and was able to open up lane...best line was 17 to 10 with good recovery. On typical house shot its just stand right throw left with virtually no out of bounds but wouldnt be my choice for house shots just too strong.

The 2nd Mutant I drill with a 6\\\" pin from pap with the mass bias above my thumb which put it as 4\\\" from my pap I also hit this ball with Storm step 3 compound just to take the roughness off. This ball is very good for clearing the heads and reading the late midlane with a smooth even reaction at the break point. Should be a very good ball for me when needing to play the track or when seeing drier lanes. All in all this ball for me is like a regular Cell with more length and more pop down lane....should be a very good seller for Roto-Grip.

The original Cell was one of the best balls I have ever owned, if not the best. I have never bowled with an aggressive ball that was as forgiving and carried as well as The Cell. The Cell was a crucial part of my winning my second PBA Regional title.

I have bowled with every new release that Roto Grip has come out with since The Cell and each one of them is a great ball in its own way. I have had situations where I needed a ball that hooked later and stronger. The Cell Pearl or Nomad fit that bill. I have had situations where I needed something that could recover well on oily lanes and still make it back to the pocket. The Rogue Cell accomplished that very well. When the lanes were drier and I needed something to get through the heads, but still make a turn at the back end, my Mars with the pin on the axis worked perfectly, but my go to ball, and the ball I could always depend on to carry those so so hits, was The Cell.

Alas my Cell is getting a little long in the tooth and I was actually thinking about buying another one because I couldn't fathom life without it. Then along came the Mutant Cell. It outhooks either The Cell or the Rogue Cell, but still is a very forgiving ball, and the carry is phenomenal. I have frustrated a lot of opponents with my so called "lucky" strikes. While I don't think I'm going to retire my original Cell quite yet the only ball I have bowled with since I drilled it, is the Mutant Cell.

As a Pro Shop owner if someone came to me and asked me to recommend a ball The Cell was the ball I would suggest to anyone that didn't have one. I would sell Cell Pearls and Rogue Cells to those who already had a Cell and wanted something with a different look. Now I have absolutely no hesitation to recommend The Mutant Cell to everyone.

For my Mutant Cell, using the Dual Angle Layout, I drilled 70/2.5/50. This is a different drilling than I would normally use on such a STRONG ball, but I wanted to try something a little different, and so far that is what I am seeing out of this ball.

On a typical house pattern, I can stand left and play a little more up the boards when I come up the back of the ball. When I want to move right and circle the ball I can do that as well. Usually when I get a ball that is angular off the spot I leave a LOT of 8 pins, which is very frustrating, but with the Mutant Cell I have yet to have that problem. This ball just goes through the pins differently than any ball in a long time. So far I am very impressed.

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back. So not a cranker but not really straight either.

I drilled this ball strong, pin and mass bias 4” from PAP, box finish (no extra hole). This ball is as strong as I’ve had in a very long time. On a house shot I can get as deep as I want and it still wants to come back from anywhere with no quit. On oilier patterns this ball rolls very good as it still will turn when most others just skid. I also have had some success playing the tighter Kegel patterns if I stay behind the ball and try to roll it straight. With this release I can get it to roll out. However, if I am not trying to release it up the back the ball finishes way stronger than I would have expected even without polish. This is a fantastic ball for oilier conditions or for those who need more help keeping up with the crankers.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
I went with a typical drilling on the new Mutant Cell so we could get a good overall read of the balls potential. This would most likely be the type of layout that most of our customers will end up with. With the combination of the new core and cover we thought this would show us the true potential of the ball and give us the best read for a solid review.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
Another great ball from the guys at Roto. The Mutant Cell did everything we thought it would do. Even with the stronger cover the ball held through the heads, but when it starts getting in to its roll there is no stopping it. This ball was very forgiving when we moved deeper and deeper and played various angles.

What I was most impressed with from this ball was the fact that no matter how hard it hits the pins, it still manages to keep them low for great carry. Overall the Mutant Cell ranks up there as one of my favorite high performance balls from Roto Grip.

I believe for various conditions, Roto Grip, has built a great new ball. I drilled my first ball pin over the fingers with the mass bias just right of the thumb hole, no weight hole. I literally shot 299 on my first game, with a 1005 series, set of 4, doubles league. I left the surface out of the box. No problems thru the heads with more backend bite than original Cell for me. With this layout, I have been able to move left and more left and haven't lost any bite.
The second Mutant I drilled out the pin with my ring finger with the mass bias half inch left of V.A.L. with no weight hole. Now this is the look I enjoy with more oil. Super smooth thru the front with hard arcing backends. I think these balls will fit every game and the backends and great read off the spot will please everyone.

Review:
I drilled 2 Mutant Cells. I drilled them to give me 2 different looks at the pocket.

Mutant Cell #1: 4x4x3.5 with a 29/32 weight hole 5” right
This ball was a monster right out of the box. The day that I drilled it I bowled our PBA league, on Scorpion, and shot a 657 with it playing the lanes 23 to 8. After that I bowled our scratch league and had 30 out of 36 strikes for an 802. I drilled the ball to give me a more even roll to give me some predictability on the lane and that is what I got. What I did not expect was how much the ball actually moved on the lane. Our scratch league used a 41’ pattern and I was standing very similar to what I was on the Scorpion. I was bowling 20 to 6 and the ball was shredding the pins. I only left 2 multi pin spares to shoot at and both were because I got a little slow with my speed. This ball will be a staple in my arsenal for a long time.

Mutant Cell #2: 4½ x 3½ x 1½ with a 53/64 weight hole 5” right
This ball is very similar to the other except for the entry angle. This Mutant makes the turn off of the spot much quicker than the other. I was throwing both balls during a practice session of mine to get a feel of the differences. Both balls covered the same number of boards but #2 went a few feet longer and made the corner a little faster. I expect that this ball will be my go to ball for most heavy oil situations. I was also experiencing the need to be a little more consistent with my speed.

You can look at these balls on video and others at: http://www.tenpincoaching.com/Roto_Grip_News.html

No matter how you drill yours, you will love this ball for use on heavy oiled lanes. Roto Grip has another hit in this line of bowling balls.

Accomplishment: Ball layout with 3 inch pin 1 inch above & left of ring finger..CG below & RG just left of thumb has worked great for this lefty stroker. Layout works on house conditions with medium oil. Ball goes long with smooth back-end and cell hitting carry..Shot a 4 game tournament qual. 279-1031 and another tournament qual. 8 games of 1878 since 1st of Nov., but, as lanes dried out, had to go to Nomad pearl...Finally on Nov. 19th in League the Mutant went 247-267-300-814 and my 72 yr. old hand did'nt Mutate. This ball i was very impressed with i layed it out with the pin above my bridge about an half inch mass bias kicked out to the right of the thumb hole bout an inch this ball was a beast it smashed the pocket and carried very well i only left 3 ten pins in league with it. i stand on the first dot on the left throw the ball out to about the 5 board and the ball would come back strong and smash the pocket. the thing that impressed me the most i didn't move a single board all night in league played the same line all night i went 221 248 234 for a 703 that was my first time throwing it got it drilled up right before league this ball by far is the best cell in its line i don't know how they are gonna keep improving this line.

About the Bowler

I received my Mutant Cell just 3 weeks ago. It is drilled with the pin above the fingers at 12:00. The cg is directly in line in grip center. I have a high roll with an axis point of 6 over and ¼ up. I consider myself a tweener with a moderate to slow speed of about 14 and up to 15 on a good day. The ball is 15lbs.

I tried it box finish the first time I used it and even with my 6x6 drilling it hooked early and rolled out. This ball is very aggressive. So I light polished it for our medium oil house shots. The next night I shot 683. The next week I had 743 in one league and 685 in the other. Then the next week I went 256, 220 and 299 for a sweet 775. One of my teammates asked me if I was really that good or does that ball carry better than other balls on the market. I have to believe I am getting better carry than I have with my other equipment on these same house shots.

This ball gives me a great read in the mid-lane great recovery on my marginal shots and the best carry I have had this year. If you are a bowler that throws with slower speed like me you will probably have to apply some polish to the ball. You will also want to have it set up to go longer than most to eliminate roll out. But if you have speed and hand you will want to go with box finish. Bob Korth writer of Q. and A. article Ask Bob and Roto Grip Staff Member.

Simply put, the new Mutant Cell is a Cell on mega steroids. Want backend that is controlled and drives through the pins?? Mutant Cell is the way to go.

I drilled my Mutant using a 5" pin/pap, MB 3" from pap, with a 3" pin buffer. I bowled a game with it after I finished a PBA league on the scorpion 41' pattern. This Mutant was too strong out of the box for that 41'. I used a 4000 abralon pad on a spinner and, voila, perfect. I used it on a 41' house pattern and shot 704 (246-255-203) in the first block of our state senior tournament. I changed pairs and shot 280 out the gate to begin the 2'nd block, but then the Mutant had to be put away as the shot broke down.

Surface adjustment for your style and the lane condition you will be using the Mutant on is important to get the pin driving most, out of this ball. Out of the box at 2000 abralon will work on heavier volumes and longer patterns, but you may need to go to a 4000 surface for lighter volume, longer patterns. In summation, the Mutant is a tremendous complement to the original Cell.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 4 oz, 3.70 top weight, 2.5-inch pin.

The Mutant Cell was punched with a modified Rico layout. Instead of the pin being on the grip center, I raised the pin ½ inch above the grip center mid-line. Using dual angle terminology, the layout would be a 5 ¼ inch pin, 45 degree drill angle and a 75 degree VAL angle. The x-hole was drilled into the mass bias. This would be the equivalent of a P4 hole. The cover was left OOB, which is 2000 abralon.

The Mutant’s roll and motion is very readable and forgiving. With the slightly higher RG and smaller differential, the Mutant is just slightly longer than the original “Ball of the year” Cell. The Mutant still reads the mid lane very well and is a little stronger with more continuation on the back end than the original. The Mutant’s overall hook for me is 3 to 4 boards more than the original Cell.

The Mutant is a great addition and will function well as the replacement for the original Cell. You still get that predictable and forgiving Cell roll with great hit and carry in a slightly stronger shell.

Upon pulling this ball out of the box I figured this was going to be an interesting piece to say the least. I used a label drilling with the pin above and about and 1 1/4 to the left of my middle finger. This layout worked really well for me on the Cell Pearl so I figured I'd try the same with this new offering. Right out of the box and off my hand I could tell this Mutant was totally different than all the other Cells. It revs up a lot quicker, reads the mid lane strong, then suprisingly, unloads on the back end. The hitting power is sick. I recommend using this ball on heavy oil unless you are rev rate challenged. Fantastic ball and I expect this one to be really successful.

I like the ball very snappy off the break point. If you have high revs the pin needs to go under your fingers. Very great ball for low rev plays to keep up the carry like us high rev players.Goes longer then the call peal but snaps harder then any other ball ball roto grip as put out. Can't wait to see west throw this one if he can my cover off the break point to much for him.

I have only had the Roto-grip for about three weeks but I love it! It does exactly what I want it to do. If you have the consistently in your bowling; this ball will keep up with you. I am not a professional bowler but I average 185 in league bowling. With this ball, I have consistently bowled a 195 or higher with 235+ as my highest games. I would recommend this ball to anyone who loves the sport.

I was lucky enough to get a mutant cell early and so far i have been really impressed with it.I have it drilled pin above the ring finger with the mb about 1 1/2in right of the thumb.Like all the other cells the mutant is a very strong rolling consistant ball that carries extremely well with great backend continuation. This one is definetly the strongest of all of them. The backend was impressive for a solid ball, once it makes its turn toward the pocket it doesnt quit.I have used it in two leagues and shot 713 in one and 717 in the other.I have a feeling ill get some big scores out of this ball but then again its a cell whats new!

I may be a bit biased here, as I only throw Roto Grip, but this ball will definitely be making it's way into my arsenal.

I was honored to be part of a ball demo held today by Storm, and it featured this ball along with the Nomad Pearl/Solid, Reign, Natural, and a mystery ball we gave feedback on.

Even though the demo layout was a bit weak, this ball had no problem clearing through the oil, and burying the pins in the deck. Even after everyone had thrown for an hour, I went back, and played the same line with the carrydown.

Anyone using this ball will see why Roto is King of them All. Hail to the King!
